Dragon Rising- 24. Divine Agency:

2023.06.08 23:27 Drakolf Dragon Rising- 24. Divine Agency:

She was malice and hatred, her efforts to undermine the Empire's efforts for peace- in spite of everything the Humans had done- had culminated in her attempting to simply raze everything and force the issue.
Brave and Noble Kurtulmak, God of Kobolds, had roared with all of the ferocity of a Dragon, sacrificing himself to ensure Bahamut, the Justicemaker, could strike Tiamat's heart, and in his final breath, begged Bahamut to protect his people.
"That's a load of fucking bullshit!" I yapped.
The Priests of Bahamut recoiled at my words, clearly not anticipating that I- who miraculously returned, whose resurrection was clearly a divine miracle, and was thus also clearly a sign of Bahamut's favor- would be pissed.
"There is absolutely zero fucking way that actually happened!" I snapped.
It was a full day since my resurrection, and I'd been exhausted. I was still exhausted, but I absolutely was not having any fuckery. So I calmly asked them for the account of what had happened, after overhearing them talking about how Bahamut had clearly brought me back and pushing the holy vestments on me.
Which I did wear, because I wasn't going to go around naked.
This of course was the wrong choice because it gave their story some implicit weight.
"Alright, so first off, Asgorath was the one who brought me back, not Bahamut." I said, shutting down that narrative immediately. "Second, the only reason he did that was because I guess I impressed him? Third, he brought me to Bahamut's palace, Bahamut didn't bring me there, and fourth-" I paused, my anger at the situation briefly giving way to a pang of grief. "And fourth, Kurtulmak was already dead when Bahamut arrived."
"Imperator, clearly you must still be exhausted and confused from-"
I flung Magic Missiles at him, he was sturdier than Humans, but he still died. "Bring him back!" I ordered. "I though he'd survive."
This of course terrified the priests, who did bring him back immediately.
I stood up and walked over to the window overlooking the area. The town had been eradicated, it was only thanks to our efforts to get Darastrixthurhi livable that the nursery survived.
"Do any of you remember what Christianity was like?" I asked.
"Y-yes, Imperator." One of the Priests stated.
"Stop acting like a Christian, and start following your God's tenets, or I swear upon mine I will kill you and leave him to deal with you."
"Ruuk, that's enough." Tallyn warned. "We lost most of our family, we didn't know what to think of what happened, we went with what made sense."
"I can understand that." I said. "Mistakes happen, and sometimes things are misunderstood." I shot a glare at the Priest. "I will not tolerate attempts at gaslighting me into believing your story. Bahamut is ashamed of you."
He looked away, then looked back at me before bowing. "I am sorry, Imperator. Please forgive my transgression."
"I've already killed you once." I said. "You don't need forgiveness, you only need to do better. Make your actions your apology, words are meaningless before Bahamut." The way he stared at me with such profundity indicated that he had absolutely not considered that before.
"Tallyn, what the fuck is going on when something that basic escapes your notice?"
"Times have been difficult." Tallyn replied. "Galax was killed on that day, he gave his life protecting us from Tiamat's breath weapon."
"A shame. He was a dick, but he was at least on the right path. Who's in charge of the Temple?"
"That would be Mitne, the Dragonborn." Tallyn replied. "We've been quarantined since the attack, except this time, it's for a good reason."
"Yeah, Kurtulmak's divine essence is causing Humans to turn into Kobolds, but without his guidance." I said. "Have they at least let anyone out?"
"No. It extends to anyone we touch, anyone we try to heal. We chose to be quarantined."
This wasn't even square one. This was the table being flipped by an irate player who didn't get their way.
"Any negative effects on our people?" I asked. He shook his head. "Good, there's that, at least. Did any worshipers of Kurtulmak remain?"
"There were some holdouts, but..."
"But?" I pressed.
"We converted them." Tallyn said. "Not by force, I know you would never forgive us for that, but since Kurtulmak is dead... There's no point in worshiping a dead god."
"I see." I said. "I want everyone who was affiliated with Kurtulmak's Temple brought to me immediately."
They hesitated, but complied.
There were only fifty of them, all dressed in Bahamut's vestments.
"I'm going to give you all a choice." I said. "Remain in Bahamut's Temple, or join me in a fool's errand to worship a dead God." They looked at each other. "Until yesterday, not a single one of you made any efforts to worship him, I am currently the only one stubborn enough to do so. Now, make your choice. If you will join me, cast aside your vestments, and pledge your service to my God. If Bahamut complains, he can bother me about it."
The way they removed the vestments indicated they only went with Bahamut's Temple because they were convinced to, or maybe even forced to, I couldn't trust that Tallyn knew everything.
"Tonight." I said, looking at them critically. "We will be performing a public ritual in Kurtulmak's honor. If the Temple of Bahamut deigns to strike against us, do not kill them if you can help it, but make them suffer, for they act against their God's wishes."
Maybe. I wasn't entirely certain why he searched for me, or why Asgorath brought me back- the latter, at least, I could think as doing it just for the sake of doing it, maybe there was some sort of balance my being brought back would achieve, or maybe he wanted Kurtulmak's story to have a more satisfying ending, I wasn't certain, nor would I ever really be certain.
All I knew was, if there was some way to bring him back, I would most certainly do it, and the first thing that came to mind was worship, there was a reason why Gods needed followers,
In spite of my exhaustion, keeping my resurrection a secret was a Bad Idea. If the Temple of Bahamut's new High Priest was a problem, he'd try to do more than a little gaslighting,
I looked at the Priests of Bahamut, who observed this all with disappointment in their eyes.
"Gather the people." I said. "Tell them their Imperator has words that must be heard."
One of them scowled, I walked up to her. "Is there going to be a problem?" I asked in a low tone. "Do not think for a second I did not see that look you gave me. A year may have passed, but do not forget the antagonism the Temple brought me under better leadership. I was the one Bahamut directed when platinum was needed for your Temple, I was the one who had the platinum sword forged."
I paused, bending over to keep her looking at me as she tried to look away. "Your actions now dictate whether I return as a benevolent leader, or a cruel tyrant, I will happily go either way as long as what needs to get done gets done. I am electing to do good, in honor of your God's pact with mine. I do not need to be. Is this understood?"
"Yes, Imperator." She said.
"Direct your High Priest here." I said. "Tell him his Imperator wants him for words."
"Imperator, the High Priest does not answer to anyone other than Bahamut." Another spoke.
"He will, if he understands what's good for him." I said. "Last I recall, Mitne is not a Kobold, he was Human before he was reborn, and unless he has proven he understands what is necessary for the Warren, and not just his God's glory, I cannot trust that the very concerning actions I've seen today are not indicative of a more systemic problem."
"We serve Bahamut's will." The third Priest stated.
"Your names, tell me them." I said. They blinked, confused. "Are you disobeying a direct order from one whom Bahamut sought out in death, whom Asgorath saw fit to return to life?" I asked. "Or am I only a convenience if I am compliant to the machinations of the Temple?"
"Rahmut." The Priestess spoke, her gaze turned downward.
"Kuudra." The first spoke, his gaze meeting mine evenly.
"Farin, Imperator." The third spoke with slightly more respect.
"This one gets it." I said. "The people gathered now, the High Priest brought in here immediately. Failure to do either will be considered treason. Is this understood?"
"What, may I ask, is the punishment for treason?" Kuudra asked.
"For the time being, a sharp slap to the face. I'll move up to the death penalty if it gets particularly egregious."
They bowed.
"Fuck's sake, did you forget our salute?" I asked. They froze. "Out."
They left.
"Imperator." I looked toward the fifty, all saluted. I smiled and nodded.
Slowly, the people below gathered, Tallyn returned, and for a moment, there was a moment of tension between us.
"Does my manner of addressing your Temple displease you, Tallyn?" I asked.
"I'd be lying if I said it didn't." He replied. He held out a bundle of cloth, and I took it. My eyes widened as I saw the crimson sheen of the leather armor Kurtulmak had made for me.
"I thought I was incinerated?" I asked.
"Our Artificers classify it as a legendary item, unsurprising considering it was created by a God." He said. "It takes more than a solid blast to destroy an item like that. I may have needed to punch a few Priests to get it out, Bahamut will take it out of my hide at his discretion.
My once-blind eye ached. "He will not." The words came unbidden from my own lips, I held hands grasping my shoulders firmly. Tallyn's eyes widened, he knelt immediately. "I speak through your Imperator, and shall only reveal myself when necessary. Tallyn is, and always has been since that day two and one half years ago, my claimed agent upon this world." The chuckle I heard did not come from my own mouth, yet it reverberated throughout the room. "He has made me almost regret giving him my regard many times."
"What is your wisdom, my God?" Tallyn asked.
"Justice and Good above all else, yet even Evil may be paid unto Evil. So long as justice is served, so long as Good is preserved, the means to achieve that Justice may be forgiven. Ruuk understands what I need, I will tolerate his indiscretions so long as it achieves that ultimate goal."
I felt those hands loosen, for a moment, I felt like I was going to faint.
'I am here, Ruuk, as I always have been. Do what needs done.' Bahamut's voice echoed in my mind, and the aching in my eye faded.
"The people are gathered." Tallyn spoke. "Let them know their Imperator has returned."
I put on my armor, finding comfort in its presence, and I strode toward the balcony. It was dead silent before I showed up, and the only indication that anyone realized who I was, was a few startled gasps.
'We have imbued you with further power.' Bahamut spoke. 'A year is a long time to be gone, this gift will ensure the people understand who has advocated for your return.'
I climbed onto the balcony. "Altiuiri thran hansa tairais." My words reverberated with power, and I stepped off of the balcony. The screams were short lived, once the spectral wings burst out from my back. I descended such that everyone could clearly see me.
"By the effort of Bahamut, and the grace of Asgorath, your Imperator has returned." I spoke. "I am very, very disappointed, I am gone for one year, and everything goes to shit."
I made it obvious that, in spite of my clear disapproval with things, I was trying to be humorous. A handful of people laughed. Good, I didn't need fear quite yet. Everyone was dressed in some kind of vestment, which told me a lot about how the prior administration ran. I could feel Bahamut's anger burning within my heart.
'They are required by law to show fealty to me.' He spoke. 'I grant you permission to destroy this mockery of my will.'
"To those who do not feel the need to pledge your fealty to Bahamut, disrobe immediately. Those vestments are nothing but a mark of slavery to a faith you do not follow."
I could see palpable relief in the eyes of most of the people, who didn't even hesitate to undress. "To the rest, may your faith to your God be respected, you are the ones who have use for such things- even so, you are not required to show your devotion in such a way. Disrobe, if it is your desire."
A handful of Kobolds undressed. "Place the vestments over there." I said, pointing at an empty spot. They did so.
'Now, burn this mockery against me.'
I pointed my finger at the pile, each vestment folded with respect. "Docar ethim nil'gnos." I spoke, and the firebolt streaked toward the pile, setting it ablaze instantly. There were a few shocked gasps.
"May this affront to Bahamut's ideals be burned away, zyak qe coi."
"Tomorrow." I said. "I want each of you to write any complaints or criticisms you may have had in the preceding year. If for whatever reason you do not have access to paper or writing implements, I will ensure you have something, if only to ensure clear communication. You will write your name, as well as anything that comes to mind, no matter how petty, no matter how insignificant. And if anyone bars your way toward delivering these to me personally, you have every right to strike them down, as they will be a traitor to the Empire."
'Call out the name of Kova, have her approach.'
"Kova." I spoke, "You are within this crowd, approach."
A female Kobold slowly made her way over to me. she was bruised, her eyes downcast. "What has happened to you?" I asked, lowering myself to stand before her.
"I- spoke out against the Temple." She said. "They beat me for blasphemy."
'This is my gift to you, it is your own power, you do not need to pray to me for this.' Bahamut spoke.
I gently rest my hand on her, guided by Bahamut, but not controlled. I spoke, "Irisv itov erlelee." I felt a rush of power completely unlike Sorcery, the bruises healed, her dull scales regained their luster, she looked up at me with wide eyes.
"Brutality to our own is evil." I spoke. "Speak freely, your voice is the voice of the Empire, as are the voices of your fellow Kobolds. In benevolence or tyranny, I would never silence you."
I had some very sharp words for Mitna.
I pulled away from her and flew up again. "Tomorrow." I spoke. "Though I work within the gifts given to me by Bahamut, I will be leading a ritual in honor of Kurtulmak." A quote came to mind. "That is not dead which can eternal lie; and with strange aeons even death may die. Until the day I die, I will not give up on my God, our Emperor. Go in peace."
I flew back up to the throne room. "Tallyn." I said. "Why have beatings occurred under your leadership?" I asked.
"Wait, beatings?" He asked.
Footsteps echoed as one of the Priests returned. "Imperator." Farin stated, he started to bow, caught himself, and then saluted. "The High Priest has refused to see you." He said.

2023.06.08 23:10 saintsnnr I need a council of 13 Lesser Villains for a long-term campaign

I'm beginning to form an online D&D campaign that will be run through discord and Roll20, for a campaign that I'm writing with ChatGPT. I am in need of 13 lesser villains that will play subordinate to my Headmaster villain. The campaign is set at Shadowfell Academy.
"The prestigious Shadowfell Academy, a renowned private school for the wealthy and powerful, located in a secluded castle atop a misty hill. The castle is a magnificent structure with towering spires, ivy-covered walls, and a sprawling campus that includes state-of-the-art facilities for both magical and mundane education."
Players will enter the campaign either as a Level 1 Student, a Level 3 Staff Member, or a Level 5 Teacher. Students will be allowed to multi-class, as they learn from various teachers and receive quests from anyone on the Faculty or Staff. Teachers and Staff receive quests from the Headmaster, or his protege, and from the Council of 13, and can assign quests to each other at the direction of the Headmaster.
I've built lore, backstories, character stat blocks, and a budding Discord server for this campaign. Official game nights will be the first Saturday of every month, from 7pm-10pm PST (for nights when everyone needs to get together) but will primarily be done through text chat in character.
If I've kept your interest this far, this is what I need:
The Council of 13 are former students, faculty, or staff of Shadowfell Academy, and are strictly loyal to the Headmaster.
  1. Lady Morganna - The Enchantress (Enchantment Wizard): Lady Morganna is a master manipulator who uses her enchantment magic to control the minds of key political figures, ensuring their loyalty to the Headmaster's cause. She seeks to expand her influence over the royal courts, using her charm and wits to gain favor with monarchs and sway their decisions in the Headmaster's favor.
  2. Baron Blight - The Plaguebearer (Necromancer): Baron Blight is a sinister necromancer who spreads disease and decay wherever he goes. He commands legions of undead minions and uses them to sow chaos and fear in the general population. He seeks to weaken the kingdom's defenses from within, creating a path for the Headmaster's forces to infiltrate and conquer.
  3. Captain Ironfang - The Warlord (Conquest Paladin): Captain Ironfang is a fearsome warlord who leads a ruthless army of mercenaries, bandits, and barbarians. He uses his formidable combat skills and charisma to rally his troops and instill fear in the hearts of those who oppose the Headmaster's rule. He seeks to expand his army and conquer new territories, establishing a foothold for the Headmaster's forces.
  4. Madame Seraphine - The Mastermind (Mastermind Rogue): Madame Seraphine is a cunning and elusive spymaster who operates from the shadows, pulling the strings of espionage and manipulation. She gathers information from all corners of the realm, blackmailing key individuals and infiltrating secret organizations to further the Headmaster's agenda. She seeks to uncover and exploit every secret, using her skills in deception and manipulation to undermine her enemies.
  5. Archmage Ignatius - The Archmage (Archmage Wizard): Archmage Ignatius is a highly skilled and ambitious wizard who seeks to gain ultimate power by unraveling the secrets of ancient magics. He delves into forbidden knowledge, experimenting with dark and dangerous spells to further the Headmaster's goals. He seeks to wield unrivaled arcane power, using it to crush any who oppose the Headmaster's rule.
  6. Lord Fangorn - The Beastmaster (Beastmaster Ranger): Lord Fangorn is a savage and feral ranger who commands a legion of monstrous beasts. He roams the wilderness, bending the creatures of the wild to his will and using them to terrorize villages and towns. He seeks to unleash the untamed forces of nature upon civilization, creating chaos and discord to weaken the realm for the Headmaster's eventual takeover.
  7. Lady Celestia - The High Inquisitor (Inquisitor Cleric): Lady Celestia is a fanatical cleric who leads the Inquisition, a ruthless organization that hunts down and eradicates any dissent against the Headmaster's rule. She uses her divine powers to enforce strict obedience and root out heresy and rebellion. She seeks to purify the realm of any opposition to the Headmaster's cause, using fear and intimidation to maintain control.
  8. Master Shun - The Shadow Assassin (Shadow Monk/Assassin Rogue): Master Shun is a deadly assassin who strikes from the shadows, eliminating anyone who poses a threat to the Headmaster's plans. He is a master of stealth and deception, using his martial arts and assassination skills to sow fear and chaos among the Headmaster's enemies. He seeks to eliminate key figures who stand in the way of the Headmaster's ascension to power.
  9. Lady Isolde - The Witch (Hexblade Warlock): Lady Isolde is a dark and malevolent witch who has made a pact with a powerful otherworldly entity. She wields a cursed weapon, channeling its dark powers to manipulate fate and sow discord. She seeks to bring chaos and destruction to the realm, using her hexblade to corrupt and influence those in power, and ultimately ensure the Headmaster's rise to absolute control.
  10. Sir Cedric - The Corrupt Knight (Oathbreaker Paladin): Sir Cedric was once a noble and valiant knight, sworn to protect the realm. However, he has fallen from grace and now serves the Headmaster as a ruthless enforcer. He leads a group of corrupted knights who terrorize the kingdom, using their martial prowess and dark powers to suppress dissent and uphold the Headmaster's rule by any means necessary.
  11. Madame Ravenna - The Dark Diviner (Divination Wizard): Madame Ravenna is a foreboding divination wizard who can see the future and manipulate fate to suit her whims. She uses her powers to predict and thwart any attempts to oppose the Headmaster's plans, always staying one step ahead of her enemies. She seeks to ensure that the Headmaster's rise to power is inevitable and unchallenged.
  12. Master Feng - The Artificer Overlord (Artificer): Master Feng is a brilliant artificer who has created an arsenal of powerful and deadly magical weapons for the Headmaster's forces. He commands a legion of constructs and war machines, using his technological prowess to crush any who dares to defy the Headmaster's rule. He seeks to arm the Headmaster's forces with the most advanced and devastating weaponry, making them an unstoppable force.
  13. Lady Lavinia - The Mistress of Shadows (Shadow Sorcerer): Lady Lavinia is a mysterious and elusive sorcerer who harnesses the powers of darkness and shadows. She can manipulate shadows to conceal her movements and strike from unexpected angles. She uses her sorcery to sow fear and confusion among the realm's population, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty and paranoia that benefits the Headmaster's plans. She seeks to spread darkness and chaos throughout the realm, paving the way for the Headmaster's domination.
I look forward to receiving your application.

Zazu Nova and Mama Nova are ready for the race, baby! Zazu wears a racers tracksuit, looking like a pitstop girl in red stripes, with Mama Nova in a tight yellow fly girl look, with a flag that has Zazu’s face on it, as Zazu points to her flag and cheers, dancing with a little giggle.
Race hard, baby.
Yasmin Raiz and Roti Ann Raiz arrive, in Yasmin’s grandparents’ wedding attire- Yasmin wears her grandmother’s wedding dress, an deep V-neck tea-length pearlescent 60s gown with a soft blue veil and train, while Clem wears the smart matching blue suit and pearl tie, both adorned everywhere with soft pearl flowers and wearing trademark chunky glasses. Yasmin throws her bouquet at the end of the runway with a wink.
“So many brides…” Rachelle utters.
King Omari Star and Darweshi King Star strut out of the stage in two grand royal looks. Omari has a beaded necklace and headpiece made of feathers, with a fitted beaded corset and long flowy skirt. Darweshi wears a more bird-like look, with a long flowy cape and a breadth of jewels placed around their body as they walk, hand in hand.
“The Chief and his Warrior.”
Aguacate and Pitaya arrive in matching fruit looks! Aguacate is the star of the show, dressed as a literal camp take on an avocado with a matching sombrero, as she shimmies and twirls through the stage. Pitaya is dressed as what else, but a Pitaya! She walks slightly behind Aguacate, wearing a matching sombrero as Aguacate points to her as they walk, making a zany facial expression as they strut hand in hand.
“I live for a treat.” Lucy smirks.
Fiore Stravaganza and Francesca Stravaganza are the picture of elegance and beauty as they strut out, both fitted for the gods in a tight set of mermaid gowns. Fiore is in a gorgeous white dress, with Francesca in black, each with an opposing set of gloves. Their hair is long and flowy, both expressively painted with dark features as they eye the judges.
Gorg.
Granny Gorgeous and Grandson Gorgeous are the picture of a strange family. Granny is wearing a big fitted coat, with grandson serving a pantsuit look in the same color. Granny has gorgeous long gray hair, with Grandson wearing a matching black ponytail, as Granny fussily plays with Grandson’s hair as he hits the end of the stage.
Floss raises an eyebrow.
Jaslene Bangus and Jezebel Bangus enter the stage as PHOENXIES! In a huge feathered bodysuit, the two look like literal twins as they strut out on the stage. Jaslene hits the floor, landing a split as Jezebel cartwheels forward, picking up Jaslene on her shoulders as the two move through the stage, delivering a delicious show.
Phoenix, rising from the ashes!
~
Hi Racers.
Let’s chat.
Starting with… Yasmin.
Yasmin smiles.
I love this. You two are a couple in love, and I see it. Going with the wedding approach was so much fun to see.
The two hold hands.
For me- you’ve been consistently giving your all Yasmin, and I really do appreciate seeing you give your all. Great job.
“Thank you.” Yasmin nods.
Aguacate.
Aguacate winks.
“You two look fantastic.” Floss says. “However…”
Aguacate raises an eyebrow. “Oh!”
“It felt like you were focused on being the star, and Pitaya stumbled behind.” Floss purses her lips. “I wanted to see more interaction.”
“Okay…” Aguacate nods.
“For me, it is clear you’re stars- however, I wanted- and at this point, needed more.”
“Thank you, I- I mean. WE are stars!.” Aguacate responds. “See? Already applying those critiques!”
The room laughs.
Aguacate: “The lady is wrong, but it’s alright. Don’t gag when she goes missing though.” Aguacate winks.
Omari.
“Hello.” Omari smiles.
“Now, you have a strong brand.” Rachelle says.
Omari nods.
“And I was worried about how you’d manage it on another canvas. But you’ve done really well.”
Omari smiles.
“For me, you’re embracing this journey, you’re showcasing yourself and really having fun with it. So, keep at it.”
“I plan to.” Omari winks.
Granny.
“My dear.”
“I don’t really see a brand.” Lucy frowns. “Like I don’t get it.”
“It’s Granny and her Grandson.” Granny grins.
“Mhm.” Lucy eyes Granny. “Like, for me, especially this King look- it’s not giving.”
“I understand that- I did want to go outside of the box.”
“I get that darling, but for something like this- being YOU is important.” Lucy responds.
Granny nods.
Zazu.
“Hiiii!” Zazu waves.
This is gorgeous.
“Oh my god, thank you.” Zazu flushes.
Zazu, you have had a challenging few weeks. But this week, I saw you shine.
Zazu beams. “It’s been so long since I last heard praise.”
It was a really strong brand, an efficient brand- and you clearly, really really knew what you were doing. It was all well thought out. The styling was on point, the mug too, great job, kid.
“I had a lot of fun.” Zazu smiles. “This woman saved my life.”
Mama Nova hugs Zazu.
I’m happy to see it.
Fiore.
“Hello.” Fiore smiles.
“I think you did, like, gorgeous.” Lucy says. “Like duh.”
“Duh.” Fiore chuckles.
“But like… it’s pretty, but kinda soulless?” Lucy looks at Fiore.
Fiore looks surprised, as Jaslene eyes her.
“Like- I wanted more. Smiles, I wanted grace, I wanted- I don’t know, a partnership. I didn’t really get that.”
“Sorry, I… don’t really get that critique. Cause my drag IS fierce and put together and that’s what I showcased tonight.” Fiore responds. “Unlike-“ Fiore gestures towards the other girls before stopping.
Fiore Stravaganza: “Soulless? Lucy Vuittion, LILY VUITTON, CALLED MY DRAG… SOULLESS?” Fiore growls, rolling her eyes.
Chronologica laughs.
Fiore, I think you’re missing the point. We have been needing that fun factor from you these past few weeks and this was all presented greatly, It just all felt overly rehearsed. We just need you to… what was it again, Rachelle?
“Let loose.” Rachelle responds.
Yeah, that.
“Y-…Yeah I believe I can understand that.” Fiore nods, hesitantly.
Finally, Jaslene.
Jaslene looks with a fierce gaze.
“DAMN.” Floss smiles. “This- this is family resemblance.”
Jaslene grins.
“Every detail, every moment has me set up. I am enjoying beyond compare what you have delivered- not just a look, but a performance.”
“Thank you.” Jaslene responds.
“For me, this is high class, PROFESSIONAL drag.” Floss smiles. “Well done babe.”
“Thank you so much judges.” Jaslene bows. “This challenge means the world to me. I mean, seeing my good sis after so long has really reminded me who my real sisterhood is—“ Jaslene begins to get emotional.
Camera cuts to Fiore.
“It reminded me why I’m still here fighting for this title and for WHO I’m still fighting for. Which is of course me!” Jaslene jokes as the room laughs, “But seriously, I want to show that this isn’t a fluke and that…. The Cuntress is fucking back, bitches! For real now, period!”
…Period.
Thank you, racers. Whilst we deliberate, you may untuck backstage in the Crystal Lounge, sponsored by Princess Papaya Tropical Drinks. Partners, you’ll be seating in the Platinum lounge.
~
The racers enter the crystal lounge.
Aguacate grabs a drink and walks over to the mirrors. “Hmph!”
“Aguacate, darling-” Granny looks over.
“I am fine, I am just preparing.” Aguacate shrugs.
Aguacate: “What? Do I complain? No, what use will it do? I know I am a star, but I must PERFORM!”
“How are we all feeling?” Omari asks, sipping his drink.
King Omari Star: “I am content. I feel proud, I feel like I’ve shown myself. And I'm gonna keep going.”
“Finally…” Jaslene laughs. “I’m back, I feel a-fucking-mazing girl, see, I even started talking like Yasmin!”
“Not really….” Yasmin makes a face. “Anyway-“
“You ate it girl.” Zazu smiles. “The transformation…”
“You two, really really do look like twins.” Yasmin nods.
“I made a promise, week 1- I'd be here till the end. I’m here to prove that.” Jaslene shrugs. “Point blank.”
Omari snaps his fingers. “As you should. Fight for it.”
“I am just really happy not to be in the bottom this week.” Zazu laughs. “Because I do like to perform…”
“But it’s become your weekly gig at this point.” Omari smirks.
“Exactly!” Zazu laughs. “I’m leaving it to someone else.”
“I think it’ll be me.” Granny sighs.
Fiore continues to sip her drink, eyeing the others.
“I’m sorry to hear that.” Omari holds Granny’s hand. “You’re the other old bitch like me.”
The two laugh.
“You may be a baby Queen, but I do want to say- you should be proud of yourself.” Omari says, his eyes watering a little. “I didn’t expect to enjoy someone like you.”
“Granny, you’re like- megalodon levels of inspiring.” Yasmin grins. “To see a Queer Woman on this stage- you have had a second life, and wow, it feels great to know no age is stoppable for this.”
“I wanna be like you when I grow up.” Zazu smiles.
Granny looks touched, as she places her hand on her chest. “Thank you, you have no idea what it means to me to hear you all say that. I thought- I thought you’d all think I was some joke. And to feel this love….” Granny’s eyes well up with tears.
Fiore Stravaganza: “No love for me? No matter.”
Fiore swirls her drink.
“I am disappointed. I expected to do well this week, but apparently the judges don’t see that.” Fiore says. “I will be safe, but that’s not enough.”
“...Who are you talking to?” Jaslene looks at Fiore.
“...The circle?” Fiore makes a face. “It seems like everyone has had room to talk but me.”
The others eye Fiore.
Yasmin Raiz: “Fiore seems a bit… do I say, like… delusional?”
“Whatever.” Fiore continues to drink. “I don’t understand why everyone is looking at me like I’M the fool with some of those clown faces you put on every week, but...” Fiore mutters.
“What was that?” Yasmin asks.
“Nothing darling, you look great by the way. Your partner’s mug reminded me of our runway theme two weeks ago, it honestly looked fantastic.” Fiore compliments, with a grin on her face.
“Thank you…” Yasmin says, before realizing what was really said.
“I just-” Yasmin smiles, wiping her eyes. “It feels fantastic to be here. This week was lovely. It gave me a drive- and I’m here, racing for this journey till the end.”
Yasmin Raiz: “I am aware- I am not a crazy personality. I’ve been consistent, I’ve been delivering- and that is my advantage. I don’t need to tell you how I’m going to take the crown- I’ve been showing you.”
“Damn right.” Omari grins. “Shall we raise a glass to us?”
“Let’s do it!” Yasmin smiles.
“Aguacate, come!” Granny yells.
“I won’t stop myself from another drink…” Fiore smirks.
“NO THANKS!” Aguacate yells from across the room.
Aguacate: “I am an island.” Aguacate closes her eyes and hums. “For me, this competition is priority. I will fight for it. And I will not be going home.”
“You look gorgeous.” Aguacate laughs, looking at herself. “Winner.”
~
Welcome back, racers.
I’ve made some decisions.
…Yasmin, Omari. Well done this week. You’re safe.
The two grin.
Zazu Nova, this week, you’re back.
You’re safe.
Zazu smiles. “Thank you.”
Jaslene Bangus.
The fish has been SERVED. Condragulations, you’re the winner of this week’s challenge!
Jaslene tears up as the others clap for her. “PERIOD BITCH!”
Jaslene Bangus: “FINALLY!”
Fiore Stravaganza, we’re needing more.
Granny Gorgeous, you need to know… you more.
Aguacate… perhaps it’s a lesson today. Sometimes- you don’t need to be the star- you need to be a partner.
Aguacate makes a face.

Fiore, you’re safe.
Fiore, for the first time, looks genuinely nervous, before nodding. “Thank you.”
That means Granny Gorgeous and Aguacate, I’m sorry my dears, but you are up for elimination.
The time has come… for you to lip sync to your life!
“This is your song.” Omari looks at Zazu playfully.
**Waka Waka by Shakira starts to play**
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRpeEdMmmQ0
Good luck… and don’t fuck it up!
Granny Gorgeous: “My second time in the bottom. I am going to fight, and show them all what Granny can do.”
Aguacate: “I am NOT going home. By the end of this, I’LL be getting arrested with elderly abuse, because I’m slaying grandma.”
~
Next Time!
Racers, it’s time for you to play parts in Lovers: The Musical!
“JFK is my favorite, because, talk about a man with a good shot in the head!” Yasmin laughs.
Omari stares in horror.
“Girl, if you aren’t giving cunt…” Jaslene looks at Zazu.
“I’m a water sign, I’m giving FISH.” Zazu winks.
“Like?” Fiore looks at the others. “Seriously? What does SHE know.” Fiore throws a pillow.
“Jesus.” Jaslene jumps back in her seat.

InstaMortgage, which is formerly known as Arcus Lending, was named to the INC 500 list of the fastest growing private companies in America. Shashank, welcome to the program.
Shashank: Thank you for having me, Brooke.
Buck: So, you know, first of all, tell us a little bit about your company in that. And, you know, like I think one of the things I really want to get into is the technology aspect. But tell us a little bit about your company and what makes it different.
Shashank: Yeah, so it's two mortgages really founded on the tech first approach to mortgage lending, as we know is one of the industries that has kind of remained archaic in terms of just providing the consumer experience, how the process works, and some of it is regulatory meeting. As a lender, we can make any make any changes. The government asks us to originate alone and in a certain way there is not much you can do about it.
I'll give you an example. We created the record for fastest from an application to be ready for close in 6 hours, six and a half hours in the industry. But see, APB requires us not to close a loan for seven days after we take the application. So that's. That's what I'm saying. And some of the things that we are doing, we are kind of hampered by what the what the regulation brings. But other than that really is the mortgage approach is towards speed, towards making it more streamlined, user friendly. And we do that by a lot of technology implementation that we have done. Some of it grown in-house at instrument and some of it that we've used our partners to build.
Buck: One of the things that I understand that you guys are using a lot of is some of this artificial intelligence. Let's let's start with something basic, I think. But this is not necessarily a technology group, but, you know, maybe you want to start with like sort of the concept of what Shashi Petit is and, you know, kind of take take it from there and explain how some of this might apply to your business.
Shashank: Yeah. And anyway, I'll probably back up even a little bit more and just just explain artificial intelligence. I know the audience is pretty smart, but one of the things that we see all the time and it's this not just in the mortgage industry is is that a lot of it being is what we are hearing, especially people ask two or three years is that this is a driven we it everything seems to have the word A.I. in it. It's like crypto or blockchain from a couple of years.
Buck: Yeah, I guess 100% right. And yeah.
Shashank: One thing I wanted to explain to the audience is that not everything is the AI, and just because they say it's to write artificial intelligence essentially is is the is when machine is able to do some things that humans do, they're able to recognize speech, they're able to make decisions like humans do when something is programed to do something that's just advanced programing, like if I had a chat bot and I programed it with every possible question that would ask when Buck would come to my website, that's not artificial intelligence. Me look smart. Oh, I'm asking you, do I need a mortgage? And it knows the answer. I want to can be connected to a loan officer and it knows the answer, but it hasn't been programed to do that, that we preempt the questions that you might possibly ask, given our experience that when users come to the Web site and ask these questions, that's not artificial, since artificial intelligence is usually a huge amount of computing capacity, that's required for a machine to learn by itself, even something as basic as if a machine were to recognize if this picture is of a cat or not, that will require it to be fed hundreds and thousands of photographs of cat for it to figure out a pattern saying this is how cats look. And on the other side also fed hundreds and thousands of pictures that may look like a cat, but it's not a cat. Might be a baby lion or a baby tiger that has paws and whiskers and small, but they are not cats. And and then it's able to figure it out through machine learning, through through hundreds of attrition. That's not a cat. So that's artificial intelligence. And I just wanted to throw that out as because search terms, we are like, oh, this is artificial intelligence or it's AI driven, but it's not always the idea.
Buck: Yeah. So really, I think like when I think of it, I maybe, you know, just for clarity, maybe you can correct me if I'm wrong, but it's really like a learning system, right? It's, it's, it's not just preprogramed information. It is literally sort of learning on the go. So it's, you know, it's going to take information that comes in. It's going to take questions that come in. It's going to learn from those things and potentially create more efficiencies because it can start, quote unquote, thinking rather than simply spitting out preprogramed information.
Shashank: Absolutely. And that's why and that's where I think GPT comes into us, as you asked us, that it's a job to please is a truly AI model. And what's revolutionary about it is really so far practically all artificial intelligence that I've seen before. Chad GPD has been about solving a specialized problem. So it could be about how to become a better writer. So it could do copywriting for you or to become better marketer, or you're solving one problem or the other. And that's why artificial intelligence was mostly being deployed, charging beauty for the first time at a very mass level really brings a generating by origin by meaning it didn't plan sort of it at least aims to solve for hundreds and thousands of problems and not just one last I checked. So in the real estate industry, AI and chatbots like ChatGPT are having a significant impact. One area where they are being utilized is in customer service and support. Chatbots can handle customer inquiries, provide information about properties, and even assist with the mortgage application process. They can answer commonly asked questions and provide a more streamlined and efficient experience for potential homebuyers.
Additionally, AI is being used in data analysis and predictive modeling. By analyzing vast amounts of real estate data, AI algorithms can identify trends, patterns, and insights that can help real estate professionals make more informed decisions. This can include predicting property values, identifying investment opportunities, and assessing market conditions.
Furthermore, AI-powered virtual assistants are becoming more prevalent in the real estate industry. These assistants can help automate tasks such as scheduling property tours, sending notifications to clients, and even providing personalized property recommendations based on the client's preferences and requirements.
Overall, AI and chatbots are revolutionizing the real estate industry by improving customer experiences, enabling data-driven decision-making, and automating various aspects of the real estate process.
Buck: It's fascinating. So in your business, you mentioned that AI is streamlining the underwriting process for instant mortgages. Can you elaborate on what aspects of the underwriting process AI is helping with to reduce the timeline from 45 days to just a week?
Shashank: Absolutely. One of the things AI can do is bring efficiencies to the table. For instance, loan guidelines in the mortgage industry are extensive, similar to the complexity of the IRS tax code. It can take a significant amount of time for underwriters to sift through hundreds of pages of program guidelines to find specific information related to unique borrower situations. AI can analyze the guidelines and identify the relevant sections more efficiently. It can also pinpoint bottlenecks in the process, allowing for improvements to be made.
Furthermore, AI can assist in automating tasks and providing quick access to information. For example, I recently experimented with a Facebook language model that can be installed on a local device. By uploading relevant documents, such as research papers or industry-specific information, you can create your own repository of knowledge. You can then ask questions and receive answers based on that information, streamlining the information retrieval process.
Buck: That's interesting. It reminds me of the open-source nature of blockchain technology. Do you see any similarities between AI and blockchain in terms of their potential and openness?
Shashank: There are some similarities, but they also have distinct differences. Blockchain technology has generated a lot of excitement in the past, and it's still relevant. However, it has been closely associated with cryptocurrencies, which have faced some challenges. This has caused some people to shy away from blockchain.
But blockchain technology has applications beyond cryptocurrencies. For example, in the real estate industry, it could revolutionize the process of title transfer. Instead of going through county courts, titles could be securely held on a blockchain, and smart contracts could automate the transfer process upon receipt of payment.
While blockchain may have lost some favor recently, it doesn't mean it has lost relevance. It's just not receiving as much attention and investment at the moment. However, both AI and blockchain have the potential to transform industries and improve efficiency in different ways.
Buck: I guess the comparison I was trying to make is less about comparing them as the same type of thing, but more about looking at it as an open-source opportunity for people to develop.
Shashank: The interest in it is huge. By the way, if anyone wants to test it, go to GPGforall.io. Even if you have zero programming skills, you can hire someone on Upwork. I'm not a programmer, and I got someone to do it for me. It took him less than 30 minutes. The instructions are step by step, so even if you can't do it, someone else can.
Buck: Let me write it down: GPT4all.
Shashank: Yes, "for" is the number 4.
Buck: Okay, dot IO. Fascinating. Let's see what I can come up with.
Shashank: Very cool. So yeah, let's talk a little bit about your business too. You guys are obviously doing really well. To be honest, I'd never heard of Instant Mortgage. Is this available in all states?
Shashank: We are in 28 states, so not all states yet. But those 28 states account for about 70-75% of all mortgages in the US.
Buck: Mostly in California, right?
Shashank: Yes, I'm here in Silicon Valley.
Buck: Right, got it. So, how does the process with Instant Mortgage compare to other mortgage companies?
Shashank: If you go to InstantMortgage.com, you will see that our entire smart application process is way more advanced than most of the industry. We start underwriting the moment you start entering the application. By the time you finish the application in your own borrower's portal, you will already start seeing the documents we need and the signatures required. The loan is almost half underwritten by that point, which is probably the fastest you will see in the industry. We also have a user-friendly borrower's portal that provides transparency on your loan's progress. We have 100% transparency on where your loan is and what's required from your end. You see all the loan dynamics at that point in time. The entire user experience is very advanced. We still have expert loan officers and processors in the back end, so it's not just a technology solution. You get expert advice as well.
Buck: Is it easy to get pre-approvals with Instant Mortgage?
Shashank: We have something called a prequel where you don't have to go through the entire process. In 90 seconds, you give us some basic information, and we run a soft check on your credit. It does not impact your credit score. Then we run the entire guideline underwriting engine and give you a prequel letter, which is the fastest in the industry. If you just want to understand how much you qualify for and you're not ready to make an offer, you don't even have to reach out to us.
Buck: So primarily residential, including jumbos and all that. Any limitations on the residential side?
Shashank: We also do commercial loans, but the process and user experience would be very different and take longer.
Buck: That is fascinating. One last question for you. Who is Rachel and how did you create her?
Shashank: Rachel is the mortgage industry's voice-first digital human. We started with websites, then moved to chatbots, and now digital humans are the next evolution. Rachel is more advanced than Siri and Alexa because she has a face. You can interact with her through speech, video, or text. You can ask for jokes or talk about non-mortgage-related topics. We just launched her with Jeopardy, so she can answer Jeopardy questions too. It's a pretty advanced concept in terms of user experience.
Buck: So the business is Instant Mortgage at instantmortgage.com. This is really fascinating stuff, Shashank. I appreciate you being on the Well Formula podcast today.
Shashank: Sure, glad to be here.
Buck: We'll be right back.

2023.06.08 22:40 Shot_Elevator_992 What's a good feminizing workout at the gym that helps you lose weight/burn fat but also makes you really curvy?

Especially (mainly) workouts that utilize gym equipment and machines.
I'm 300 pounds. I want to eventually slim down to a nice 200-220, but I'm focusing on going down to 250 for now. Im trying to lose my tummy, shrink my waist, and building my curves, but my main things I'm afraid of are loosing my boobs (granted they're more than likely a result of being overweight, but something's better than nothing), getting toned to the point where my hips butt and thighs end up not being soft and squishy anymore and get stiff, hard and tough, and mainly, getting shredded and muscular, as well as hurting myself due to my weight induced hypertension, and my asthma, which i was born with.
I should note that I've been on HRT for nearly two months. My t levels are around 230 last i checked, and my e levels are around 40-50?
Idk. How can I reach my fitness and body sculpting goals ladies?

2023.06.08 22:30 Santiagodelmar Sins Of The Father, Sins Of The Son

Support the story on Nosleep Here.
My father was not a good man, I know this. But when I think of him, I first recall his warmth, his kindness, and his strength. I remember vividly watching him toil away at backbreaking labor to support us. I was amazed by the strength of his hands, and how gentle they were with me. And then my stomach drops into a pit because now I know that with those same hands, he took the lives of countless innocent people.
My earliest memory is of him. I was 4 and I was trying to convince him to let me take in a stray dog I had found wandering an abandoned lot.
“We can’t, it’d be too much trouble to lug the mutt around, we have a hard enough time with just the two of us.” He said.
“We can leave him with lots of food until we come back,” I countered.
“Dogs aren’t like people, they’re bound by instinct. If you leave a month's worth of food out for a dog it won’t ration its food out so that it can eat happily for a month, no it’ll gorge itself and eat all the food available to it, that’s its nature, its instinct. And once there’s nothing left and hunger creeps in it might go out into the world in search of a new meal, and we’ve already learned that its instinct is to consume as much as it can while it can. That’s why we’re around, to control that which is bestial.” He said, his eyes tainted with an existential melancholy.
Even now when I think about it a trickle of cold sweat crawls achingly slow down the side of my brow, he was so close to telling me the truth back then. I wondered if the possibility of passing on his burden was what caused the derailment of his life lesson.
Our life was unconventional, spent in countless cheap, dirty roadside motels as we trekked aimlessly through the states. Sometimes we slept in abandoned lots and dark parking lots and on cold nights we clung to each other, knowing that there was no one else in the world that would care for us, but us. He tried his best to provide for me and I never went hungry, even on our worst days his patience and understanding were unmatched by any man I have known sense.
The first time I suspected my father was involved in something grisly was when I was 9. He had left me alone in our motel with the TV on and a pizza box. He must have been gone for 11 hours at least, and I began to worry that something terrible happened to him. The entire week something had been off, there was a heaviness in the air, and a chill seemed to stalk us. It was the middle of a brutal summer but every enclosed space I found myself in was wicked of its heat until the very breaths I exhaled were visible. I noticed that my father was suffering from some mental fatigue, was more irritable than usual, and had a mounting nervousness that made him quick to sequester us in our hotel. He left that day saying that there was something he needed to do but promised he’d be back. But as the clock neared 1 am I was afraid that I’d never see him again.
The relief I felt when he rushed into our hotel room was short-lived when I saw the state he was in. His dark hair was disheveled, splattered with a slick substance, and his eyes were crazed. What stood out most of all was the angry red lines criss-crossing his face and neck. He told me to get my things as he quickly made his way into the shower. I did as I was told, the panicked tone of his voice infused a frenzy into my movements, and all I owned was half haphazardly thrown into my backpack. My father stepped out of the shower and as he dressed I noticed the deep scratches raked into his forearms and back, even at that age it was unmistakable. Violence.
We drove away from that motel in silence, with no alarm or danger given voice by my father. But an undeniable sense of wrongness lingered in the air, heavy and undispellable, I knew deep in the pit of my gut that we had committed some great evil. Dad however was at ease, as if some great weight had just been lifted off his shoulders, and as days passed I noticed the stalking cold had faded.
3 years passed and I had smartened up by then and as I began to recall and re-examine, I began to piece things together. Through the layers of denial and rationalization, I knew what he had done. I held on to the hope that the motel incident was the last time, that we could move forward and with time, forget. And then he killed Morgan. There was a build-up to it, that same strange chill, the sense of impending doom, and then Dad left like he always did, and when he came back the stalking specter was gone and so was Morgan. I didn’t know him, couldn’t bring myself to even look into him even now. I only caught wind of him through a radio broadcast as we hastily left yet another small town. My dad quickly switched stations and I knew it had been him. I think he knew that I knew then, the nervousness in both our eyes communicating more between us than we’d ever could with words.
I took part in my first murder at 15. It wasn’t planned, wasn’t a rite of passage. It was more like a car crash, flying at 120 miles per hour straight into the embankment. Her name was Laurie Artwood, a local prostitute. I forced myself to look this time even if it was a glance at a driver's license moments before it was tossed into flames. Her name, her face, all seared into the flesh of my mind. It was the moment she stepped out bloodied and starry-eyed as a curtain of blood cascaded down the side of her head. A flap of flesh dangled loosely from her scalp, weighed and dragged down by curly auburn hair. As we locked eyes and hope flushed into her iris I looked away and saw the crimson-slicked and chipped exposed skull. She screamed then and I flinched and doubled back at her, seeing the desperate sprint she made towards the car I had been sleeping in. Dad closed the distance, spriting on long powerful legs, the glint of a deadly metal arc flashing briefly in the moonlight before he brought the ax down with a powerful and meaty THWACK
I saw the light leave her eyes as the floor rushed up to meet her. Dad pried the ax loose with a foot and brought it down thrice more. I watched in horror, spewing vomit and tears as a blood rain coated the floor and car. I was comatose by the time he finally entered the driver's seat, the crazed look from 6 years earlier was mirrored and I knew he had always been like this. He chanted “fuck” under his breath, like a mantra as he scrambled to start the car and when the engine roared to life silence fell like a guillotine. We drove off into the night and I was left with the knowledge that I had killed her with my inaction.
Dawn was starting to peek through the horizon when we finally came to some unnamed backwater town with a self-serve car wash. I watched as Dad fed the machine a handful of quarters and proceeded to wash the car clean. The cold spray made the bitter morning cold all the harsher, and with each passing moment, I felt the question, the demand bubbling up inside me.
“Why?” I asked, quietly.
It cleaved through the whir and sound of pressurized water and Dad heard it, turned to face me, and said “Soon.” so we waited until the water ran clear and the sun rose and off we drove to some far-flung forest edge where he pulled over. A cigarette was lit and Dad took a long drag until his lungs hurt and he couldn’t hold it any longer. He breathed the plume of smoke out painting the world gray and held out the cigarette to me and I answered with a contemptuous glare.
“Alright, I guess it’s time you knew. You’d find out sooner or later, this thing will pass on to you eventually,” he said.
“Thing?”
“You’ve felt it before, I’m sure you have. The way it hungers, the way it loathes, and the way it schemes.”
“What are you talking about?” I asked but in the pit of my stomach, I had an inkling of what he meant.
He reached out and for a moment I froze, but this was my Dad, he wouldn’t hurt me, couldn’t. So I let him take hold of my shoulders and turn me to face the sunrise.
“If it’s here, it means they haven’t found her body yet, you can’t see it by looking through your eyes. Think of what you have and what you’ve lost. What I’ve taken from you because I couldn’t bear the thought of doing this alone.”
I did, I could have had a normal life, friends, a family, first love. Anything but this vagrant lifestyle, knowing the person you cherished the most was a monster and having him drag you into his hell. And then I felt the sting of tears in my eyes, a longing blossoming and the crushing weight of its existence.
“Now show yourself,” he said
And in the glow of the morning sun, it did. I didn’t know if the thing was malformed or degraded, just that it didn’t belong. Multiple forms convened and interlaced within the same space, upon a glance it was a human silhouette, weaved in shadow. But in that same instance, it was a cuboid thing, far too large for the space it existed in, its surface pocked and scarred by clockwork machinery, passages, and labyrinthian tunnels. It was constantly turning, shifting, and restructuring, I didn’t know where to look. If I focused on its maze-like circuitry I would lose myself in the maddening scramble to navigate them. And if I saw the black of its being I would that beneath it all was a maw that opened wide and lapped hungrily at the world around it, feeding on something that still evaded me.
I tried to recoil, tried to move away from it but Dad caught me and held me firm, forcing me to gaze into the thing. Its once semi-translucent form grew vivid and real, solidifying its existence. A cloud of black smoke was being pulled from me into the hungry maws of its shadow self and in turn the machinery and clockworks of its exterior. It was devouring some part of me and it horrified me enough to try to turn and run but Dad’s firm hands held me still as he spoke.
“I think it might have had a purpose at one point, to lessen the weight of some great tragedy. But with time even blessings can become curses. I don’t know why it latched onto us, whether it was born or made, just that it needs to feed. And if we don’t feed it and control its urges, it might go out into the world and gorge itself on the grief it brings. The knowledge that I’m sparing the world from the havoc it could wreck is my sin and burden, and now… yours.”
I stood transfixed, gaze locked on the thing that fed on grief and stalked our bloodline and then it came to me, a question I had pondered but never voiced.
“What happened to Mom?”
I turned to face him and saw him drowning in pain, in guilt, in remorse. He looked away, and I knew. The world spun as bile threatened to force its way up. My lip quivered as I turned away, preferring to face the grief-devouring demon. But it had already faded to a phantasm, a moment later nothing remained.
“They found her.” was all my father said before he got back in the car. The moment of hesitation dragged out for what felt like an eternity but eventually, I was in the passenger seat alongside him, wondering how long this thing would be able to feed on the grief my father wrought that night before he’d have to do it again.
2 years, 2 short years before the grief demon manifested again. I understood now, why it stuck close to us, why no suspicion ever came to us. It was a parasite, leeching from whoever it could with the least amount of effort. I tried telling dad if we let it starve it would go somewhere else, but he feared the lengths it would to feed itself.
“The world is drowning in pain, there’s no shortage of ways for it to gorge itself,” I told him.
“I can’t risk that, no one should suffer this, no one but me,” and he was off, searching for his next victim, unaware it was the last time we’d see each other.
He never found them, not that night. When he returned to the motel he found it empty. I took what I had and caught a bus to anywhere else, and kept going until I no longer could. The monstrous thing followed me for a night but when I greeted the following dawn it was gone and I knew Dad was the one grieving. The lump in my heart wasn’t heavy enough to turn my pace, I kept moving because it was all I could do. I found a job as a laborer, taking whatever anyone was willing to give me and for two years I broke my back scrounging change for nothing. Half a year ago I came home to my shitty apartment, opening the door I was greeted by a bone-deep chill and I froze. In the center of the room upon a thrifted coffee table it stood, crouched itself. The labyrinthian clockwork had slowed to a crawl and their underlying hungry mouths lapped up at the empty air. Some of them grinned at me, expectantly.
A scream tried to tear its way up my body but it was drowned out by something else, a smoldering emotion on the verge of catching flame. As the implication of the demon’s appearance settled in I felt it, grief. And then I cried, I cried for all I had lost and for what I never had. I cried, hoping to drown a space within me that grew with every second. As I collapsed into myself as the mechanisms of this thing unwound and opened and encircled me. The maws bit down deep on the flames of my pain and I drowned in the crushing weight of its presence, suffocated by my fire and its hunger. I was immobilized by it at first, as it fed on the grief cultivated over a lifetime. Days passed, then weeks, and then a month before a moment of clarity. A burden eased and I sought him out. Claimed his body and did what I could. It wasn’t much but the tiny urn they gave me could at least be carried until I found the courage to let him go.
I’ve carried them ever since. Their weight is great and some days I buckle and fall but I know that with each passing day, it gets easier, even if only a little. It won’t ever fade completely, I know that, but one day it’ll be ok. I’ll climb to his favorite cliffside, one that overlooked a redwood forest and there I’ll toss our burdens to the wind, let them be scattered, and be returned to the earth. The demon might stick around a bit longer, maybe much longer than anticipated. But I won’t let it be my cross to bear. I don’t know what it’ll do. Maybe it’ll latch onto someone else, maybe it will coast through the world feeding on the suffering as it passes them. Maybe Dad was right and it’ll gorge on the whole of the world’s grief until it can’t. Somehow I doubt that, not through any logical reasoning but because it’s what I have to believe if I want to live with myself. The only thing I know is that I’ll keep trudging forward until I can’t.

2023.06.08 22:27 m80mike I Was a Pilot on Strike. This is Why We Went Back to Work.

Summary: A labor dispute coupled with an outbreak of unknown disease pushes all sides to war and a new truth.
I Was a Pilot on Strike. This is Why We Went Back to Work.
I was the second in command activist pilot in the Union based at O'Hare International, the unofficial headquarters of the strike movement. I remember when our strike started to heat up very vividly.
Fred, our Union boss, and Leo, the first in command activist, were sitting in the pilot's lounge, watching the tv coverage flash our picket lines from airports across the country. Something like “what do we want? The Package. When do we want it? Now!”
The Package was the nickname for our list of demands which included more security in the wake of the so-called Body Bombings last year, better pay and benefits, more job security, and perhaps, most controversially, cleaner fuel and fuel efficiency standards for current and future airliners.
The TV chirped up again, “well, folks its the twenty first day of the pilot strike most jets have been grounded now for the last eighteen as the pilots and their associated ground personnel unions have occupied major airports – only major international carriers at the coastal hubs are landing or departing now as we've seen a huge increase in train and car travel as we approach the fourth of july weekend. That's right, and our next top story as we gather for the holiday for first time after the omicron wave, health officials are advising to watch out for symptoms of a new skin...”
Fred hit mute on the remote. Fred was a balding, thick man, with thick arm hair, rolling over his grizzled sun burned flesh like barbed wire.
Leo lit up a cigarette. Leo was short, thin, and young in his looks but old, like faux 50's old in his heart. “There's no smoking in here, Leo,” Fred said sternly.
Leo didn't flinch.
Then Fred broke a smile and chuckled.
“Media bums aren't even interested in what we want anymore.” I said.
“Only these media bums. Follow the money.” Leo mumbled over his cancer stick. “That media group got a lot of money out of the bailout. Probably more than us.”
Fred looked at his watch, “We should probably get going.”
“Make em sweat for once, for Christ sake.” Leo nearly spat out his smoke.
“I'm with Leo on this one, Fred” I said.
So we made the negotiators sweat a little longer.
About an hour later we finally met them at the table. We sat on the left, the various airline owners sat on the right. This was the third time during the last three weeks but now, there was a new guy at the head of the table, a Federal mediator.
The Mediator had black rimmed almost square glasses, thick gray hair, and a blotchy face, “I'm calling this meeting to order. Before I present this offer, I have impress upon both sides how essential it is we start our air travel again soon, both for the holiday but also the good of the country. I am at this time presenting a voluntary compromise – officially, the Federal government supports the pilots' initiative to enhance security in the wake of the last year's incidents and we are prepared to use some of the unspent bailout money to supplement private airliner's initiatives and spending. We are also sympathetic to pilots and ground crews positions on their pay and benefits. The Federal government, however, is not, at this time, interested in imposing nor supporting job security, nor fuel charges nor efficiency standards. I yield to the industry representatives for comment.”
The chief industry rep, Michelson Connery, was a young looking, smooth talking, sleaze bag with jet black hair from New Jersey who had a habit of touching his coke inflamed nose every five minutes or so.
“You know back in Jersey, we're used to being shaken down, as they say. Now we appreciate the nice talk, we appreciate your brass knuckles and tommy guns are firmly tucked away, we appreciate you're giving us a break or too, but a shake down is a shake down none the less. No deal. I yield.”
Fred sat up in his chair, his mouth agape, he cleared his throat while adjusting his microphone, “No deal.” He flopped back into his chair.
“Before we depart,” the Mediator quelled the commotion as both parties began to leave, “As I said the federal government has a strong interest in resuming flights as soon as possible, we are considering using our unique power to impose a settlement on the Union, if necessary.”
Fred lurched forward, “What kind of power? What kind of threat is this?”
“It's no threat.” The Mediator paused, “It's a threat to a threat, if necessary, we will invoke our powers under various emergency statutes to effectively Federalize pilots and ground crews – under those provisions, we would impose work or removal provisions to settle this.”
“That's total bull!” Fred lunged at the Mediator, “You're basically telling us all they have to do is wait it until you force us back to work! And what about the future? These efficiency standards aren't just about hippie dippie environmental stuff, its about fleet upgrades, fleet safety and thus worker and pilot safety!”
“Gentlemen, please, I putting something on the table and it has neither a definite nor indefinite timeline – in the meanwhile, your adversaries are hemorrhaging cash and depreciating their capital and you're folks – especially your ground crew union, are running out savings – I suggest you both, in good faith, consider the current and official Federal position in good time to sort this out sooner than later rather than a threat of a threat become a threat. Good day.”
Within hours, each side called a respective press conference. Industry denounced the compromise set out by the Feds while we denounced their denouncement. Neither side budged and neither side disclosed the Mediator's so called “threat of a threat”. We sat on the picket lines for another week as each side floated various non-serious proposals and misinformation in the media. We found ourselves back in the pilot lounge before our next round of serious negotiations. This time Fred and Leo were both smoking while I had to exhale bad news.
“The ground crew union is gunna crack first, Industry is offering them a side deal and I think they're gunna take it. They go back to work, it's gunna be next to impossible to leverage the whole of the hubs, then the scabs come in, they'll just work around us.” I told Leo and Fred. “Then we maybe we should float lower pay increases for ourselves. Overall, you pay the few pilots a little bit more, you pay the huge ground crew nothing more, that sounds like the win for us and Industry.” Leo pitched back. “Leo, where do we stand on public support?” Fred inquired.
“I don't know.”
“What do you mean you don't know?”
Leo clicked on the TV, “our top story tonight, farm fields across the country are now being seemingly afflicted by some kind of blight resulting in, at in some cases, widespread crop failures as the department of agriculture is mum. Meanwhile, more and more people are reporting severe skin deformations and damage while the CDC has been all but muzzled save for recommending that people stay inside and avoid direct sunlight. At this time there is speculation but no official word the crop blight and the skin disease are connected.” “See, it's all blight this, blight that.”
“So fake,” Fred said, “I've been out in the damn sun all week on the line and I've got nothing. Whatever the damn news wants to keep real progress from being made here. Anyway, I say we stay the course and we firm it up with the ground crews, have some solidarity.”
There was a knock on the door, “heh, maybe this good news.” Fred left his seat to open the door. A neutral representative walked through and announced the Federal Mediator has canceled the session. Leo and I brewed up from our seats to go raise holy hell with Fred at the mediator's delegation when all the television screens in the lounge turned to an Emergency Announcement Service message. Leo fumbled to unmute the television as the seal of the office of the President blasted on all the screens. “My fellow Americans, it is with great dismay that after nearly a month of grounded air travel across these great United States, because of a dispute over many complex issues, I am forced to use the power legislated to the executive branch by various emergency statutes, that I am announcing the immediate federalization of pilots and ground crews. Effective immediately, they will have a forty eight hour cooling off period before I am ordering them, as federal employees, to return to work or be dismissed. Also, their demands for higher pay and better benefits will be met in part by the conditions of Federal employment. I will be going to Congress, in the morning, to seek long term funding for our new national employees to secure their jobs for a long while. Any deviation from this will have significant physical consequences...”
The TV trailed off as representatives from the ground crews burst into the room in a ruckus, “Long term employment my ass! That jackass knows this is a bandaid – there's no way Congress is gunna pay us, in ninety days, we're as good as fired, begging for our old jobs with no retirement and no Unions.” Ground Crew Union Head Reggie Weston flipped off the TV. “I say, we sit on the damn runways after forty eight hours! You're with us, right? Can I get a yes yes?”
“And here we heard you were about to sell us out and now you're all about it huh?” Leo grumbled. “It was nothing like that. I swear. You know how much talk flies.” Reggie looked offended.
“I'm with Reggie, this is unbelievable, just like that our retirement plan, what? Probably gone? We're not employees anymore afterall. Forced to work – basically at gunpoint now. No. No. No.” I said. “Fred?” Leo prodded.
Fred stood there scratching his scalp in dismay and despair then he straightened himself up, took a drag off his smoke, and turned to us, “Tell all folks, we're going to war.”
We were a bit concerned some of the locals might pull off on the eve of the forty eight hour period but when the forty ninth came, they were steadfast and when they fired us, and then the cops came in, we were ready, both in the courts, and on the lines. On day four, ninety six hours after the announcement, the picket lines were more like trenches, and the pilot's lounge a war room. Each airport was a mini Battle of Blair Mountain. I had my arm wrapped up in an ice pack from a rubber bullet ricochet while Leo was still furiously blinking out yesterday's pepper spray. Fred hadn't been back from the riot on the runways.
Rocks, molotov cocktails scorch marks, and burned out tear gas canisters dotted the parking lots and tarmacs. Overturned vending machines, kiosks, and stacked chairs and tables from the food courts barricaded the concourses. A fire started in one of the hangers and it only just now started to burn itself out. They cut the power and we sweltered in that Midwest heat as we quickly discovered how poorly insulating all of the windows actually were. We had a few generators but they were being used to run the CCTV cameras which we connected to some of the TVs in the pilot's lounge so we could see which direction the next charge was coming from and send out warnings.
On the fifth day an injunction had been filed and granted against the entire federalization and the cops withdrew to their side of the no man's land. It wasn't a moment too soon as we the pilots and the ground crews were nearly depleted.
It was early that morning as the leadership started to gather in the pilot's lounge that we got our first of several mortifying discoveries.
Reggie held a flashlight to his bruised face as he announced, “We lost contact with our brothers at LAX and Denver International.”
“How? Why? Did they surrender?”
“I don't know about LAX but I got this out of Denver.” Reggie played a video on his phone. It was poorly lit and unsteady but in the dark of the early morning you could make out the sound and outline of two large transport helicopters. As they hovered for a landing, someone out of the frame shone a large flashlight against the side. The helicopters were civilian in design and bore the shield of a notorious private military contractor – the Blackdogs. Some one else shouts “get ready!” as black tactical troops streamed out of the choppers and the video abruptly ends.
“Oh my god!” I exclaimed, “They're gunna try to Pinkerton us.”
“What about the damn injunction?” Leo stormed.
“It's an injunction on the feds, the cops. These are private operators. I'm assuming that they're bought and paid for by Industry.”
“You think they're gunna kill us?” Leo pondered.
It was then, the for the first time, during all of this, even after taking that rubber bullet, that I felt real fear and real uncertainty about the outcome and justness of all of it. It was the first time I considered blinking. Then it got worse.
There was a commotion at the door as some of the ground crew and pilots pulled in a makeshift stretcher with Fred laying on it.
“Oh my God, what did they do to him?” Leo exclaimed as he came to help pull him into the room. There was too many people around to see Fred clearly, something like a towel was covering most his face and head. Fred could barely speak and was clearly in some kind of distress. My thought was tear gas but none had been fired for hours and usually someone inundated with it start everyone off into similar distress.
The crowd broke as I huddled in, I shown my flashlight around him to see.
“Pull it off, pull it off, they have to see” Fred gasped.
Some of the ground crew members pulled off the towel and I could plainly see Fred's face and head – what was left of it anyway. I staggered back a step.
“It's the Blight, guys, half of the ground crew, they look like this, now!” Fred yelled. “I can't, I can't feel any of it and I can't see!”
His eyes were whited out like he had severe cataracts and his head, most of his face, and arms were encrusted in bulging, asymmetric, blotches, lesions, and black marks of various sizes and textures. It looked like he had been horribly burned.
“Hey, guys!” Reggie barked out over the shock and attempts to help Fred. “Cameras are down!”
“Well when the shit did that happen?” Leo exploded as he buzzed around the jerry rigged monitors hoping to get signal back.
I picked up my radio and asked everyone to report in, the south, east, and west reported but the north was just static.
Leo tried to rally some of the guys helping Frank to head to the north but they and Fred protested saying there weren't enough guys without the Blight to go stop a push if there was one. Everyone was silent just a moment and in that moment we heard the sound of some thirty guns cocking just outside of the pilot's lounge door.
“Fred Little, Leo Jones, and Mark Debs, step out of the lounge slowly and peacefully, we wish to negotiate the end of this.”
“Fred is incapacitated,” I yelled back with a dry mouth, “Reggie Weston of the Ground Crew Union, Leo and I stepping down. Don't shoot.” I said sheepishly.
Leo and Reggie looked to me to push open the door as I did I was immediately blinded by the tactical lights of some twenty or so submachine guns.
The same voice came again, “keep stepping through the lights, that's it, nice and slow, no one is going to hurt you. I just want to talk and show you something.”
Leo and I made it past the lights into a glare lit spot of the terminal where the commander of this platoon of Blackdogs with his two personal retinue stood with their helmets off, “I'm commander Don Doughty. I'm here on behalf of country and I would like to share something with you.”
“Commander, with all due respect, there's an injunction in place.”
“I know, that's why this is a private operation, not a military or police one.”
“Look, we don't have to go with you.”
“Look, you do. Now I'm going to level with both of you. We stormed the other airports today, you probably heard, a lot of my company men are hurt, a few near death, but we know you're not holding out. We know most of you have the Blight now and that's why we're here.”
“Why you're here, huh? No dedicated medical personnel, no biohazard suits? Kind of strange for what you're saying is a mission of medical mercy for a disease of unknown origin?” Leo perked up.
“It's not unknown. In fact, it's one of the most common diseases around. What is still unknown is if I have to drag you to what I want to show you or if you'll come willingly.”
Leo and I looked at each other and then back at Don. He was disarming and rational, something I hardly expected but he also had our number and between the Blight and the willingness of the government to now literally put guns to our heads to go back to work, I had so many questions and he was offering the answers. Leo and I went willing. We stepped out of the terminal and took a motorized cart to the fuel hangers as Don requested.
On the cart, Don started to open up, “Leo, Mark, tell me what you know about chemtrails.”
Leo scoffed while I replied, “chemtrails, yeah, I've some whacko come up to me in a few bars shouting in my ear about how as a pilot I am unwittingly spraying geo-engineering materials to change the Earth or make global warming real or spreading COVID or nerve gas in contrails. The kookiness seems to change by season. Why?”
“Next question. Do either of you know what CFC's are?”
Leo piped up, “Chloroflorocarbons, I think. They used to be used in fridges and spray cans before they were banned in the 80's – virtually globally because they were screwing up the ozone layer.”
We arrived at the hanger where the fuel was stored. Another small group of Blackdog troopers had one of the ground crew members in detention near the partially open sliding door. His badge was gone but I recognized the ground crew member as part of the fuel truck lead team.
“What does this have to do with anything?” I asked. As we all were led into the hanger where the fuel trucks were stored.
Don, out of no where saluted the fuel truck leader. To my astonishment, the fuel truck leader saluted back. They shared a “semper fi – once a marine – always a marine!” and then Don beckoned him, “show them, it's okay, show them what you know, show them what you do.”
The fuel trucker turn a spigot on the back of the fuel truck nearest to him and splashed some jet fuel from the truck on the hanger floor and then shone a UV flashlight on it and the truck without any change. He muttered out, “Ordinary jet fuel.” Then, turning to the truck adjacent to him, he shone the same uv light and there was a square code marking that appeared on the back of the truck. He turned the spigot on that truck, splashed out a bit of the fuel and then shone the light on it. The fuel reflected back a dazzling brilliant display of glow as it flowed across the concrete. “Not so ordinary jet fuel.”
“Now you see gentlemen, for the past fifty years or so, we've known that CFCs were impacting the ozone layer and created a hole, you were told, like everyone else, that the hole was healing and mostly fixed after we banned CFC's and other substances. Well, in truth, that's only partially correct, its healing or mostly fixed because we fixed it, or more accurately, because the great people who work in the sky and ground, by sheer volume of air travel across the world, had been burning this modified fuel, depositing its unique chemical composition into the atmosphere at altitude to keep that ozone hole closed or at least as protective as possible. Without it, well, look at your boss, look at the fields of crops failing across the country, look at the hospitals around the country filling up with ionizing radiation burn and cancer victims. Without you, there's holes in the ozone breaking open all over the North American continent.”
“We really have been spraying chemtrails this whole time.” Reggie murmured.
“Now, let me explain to you how this is going to work – as we speak, other Blackdogs, funded by the Federal government, are infiltrating every airport in the country and showing the rest of your leadership the same thing you just saw. We're also showing this to Industry. We're getting you the Mediator's deal. You'll have your old jobs back, and while a handful of you will go to jail for the rioting, none of you will be convicted of felonies or serve time. That's the deal. All you have to say is yes and tell everyone to go back to work now and then, with you all back in the air and back on the ground, the Blight will end.
In the end we went back to work, we took the deal. If you can call it a deal. It wasn't a deal but essentially a reboot with a cost of living increase. The other option was that some of us would be imprisoned, fined, be out of a job and oh yes, Leo, Reggie, and I shot on spot.
We were sworn to secrecy over the truth about the ozone layer and chemtrails but I'm breaking it. I'm breaking it because you deserve the truth. I know that this will end up in the internet gutter realm of aliens and bigfoot but I don't care. I'm big guy, a big name, and if anything happens to me, like an “accident”, I'm pretty sure that would only lend credence to what I've told you here.
Happy landings.

2023.06.08 21:41 Fairchild972 A Brooklyn's Tale Chapter 18

Here's a link to either AO3 or Fanfictiondotnet if you wanted to read it over there.
Chapter 18
The ornate trimmings that lined the roof of the Iris dorms came into view as the two Battleships slowly made their way up the long path from the docks.
Long shadows stretched from the old worn out street lamps merging quickly with the surrounding darkness before disappearing completely as the lights flickered to life.
Lost in a daze, a ponytail danced in Massachusetts's eyes. Its ash-blonde sheen dimly glowed, glinting off the light of the old street lamps.
Somewhere in her heart she had hoped this slope would continue on forever, that the warmth around her hand would never disappear, but stopping in front of the marbled steps of the Iris dormitory, that warmth finally retreated.
"Why're you still following me around?" Jean spoke, looking down at Massachusetts from the corner of her eye as she made her way up the steps.
The Eagle Union Battleship hadn't moved from where they parted, staring down at the ground by her feet. Part of her grew anxious, waiting with false hope that she would be invited in.
"I-!" Her voice came out louder than she had intended.
"You've had a long voyage…" Jean interrupted, her words strangely soft, "go get some rest."
"...and besides…" the former Flagship continued, scratching at the back of her head, "I've caused enough trouble for my roommate already…"
"Okay then…" Massachusetts giggled, "goodnight!"
"Hmph!" Jean turned away with a huff, "good-", she went to say back, but peaking back around, the silver haired Battleship had already run off.
"-night… I swear," Jean disparaged, scratching at the back of her head, but unbeknownst to herself, the little smile on her face betrayed any sort of foul mood.
Stepping back into her shared room, Jean looked around for any sign of her Cruiser friend. The darkness that greeted her wasn't unusual as Le Malin was usually lying about asleep most of the time anyway, either on the couch or in her room, but a quick glance only revealed an empty sofa. Peeking her head into her companion's room she found it empty, just as it was earlier today.
"I'm back…" the door to the suite swung open.
The little Cruiser hobbled into the room looking more listless than normal. Richelieu did mention she was out doing something important, but whatever it was, it looked like it took a lot out of her.
"Le Malin! Where have you-" Jean quickly held her tongue as a look of fear crossed her companion's face, "n-nevermind… forget it."
"O-okay…" Le Malin released the breath she was holding, fully expecting a dressing down of some sort. She had been hiding out all day so a level of guilt did hang over her, but it was Lady Richelieu that suggested it to begin with. Plopping herself onto the sofa, Le Malin melted into its cushion as the fatigue of consuming a few pounds of brownies slowly washed away.
"Uwaahhh~" a sudden kneading at her shoulders elicited a sudden moan. These hands felt so good~, "yeah… r-right there~"
The Cruiser's relaxation was cut short as she stretched her neck upward, her eyes meeting those of her former Flagship's staring down at her from behind the couch.
"W-wha?!"
"Relax!", Jean commanded feeling the Cruiser's shoulders tense.
'Relax!? How can I relax?!', La Malin screamed in her head, 'why is she acting like this?! First she was super pissed, now she's being super nice! What's going on?!"
Her heart and her body were in conflict, on one hand Jean's hands were absolute magic, never has a massage ever felt this good. But on the other, this was still incredibly weird. For as long as she's served under her former leader, this level of skinship was unheard of.
"What?" Jean scoffed, still feeling a level of resistance in the little Cruiser's shoulders, "you don't appreciate this?"
"N-no!" Le Malin let out quickly, "I- I mean I do! Its- It's just that this is…kinda…" the Cruiser scrambled to come up with a word, "new… for you."
The little Cruiser chuckled nervously as a silence filled the room. The kneading at her shoulders became heavier. Jean's once delicate touch now much rougher.
"Ow ow ow!" Le Malin cried, "sorry sorry!"
It was only for a brief moment, but she could've sworn she saw a smile on her former leader's face as she squirmed underneath the Battleship's strong hands.

"You don't have to come with me," Brooklyn said beside herself, continuing her pace down the hall.
"I-I know, but…" Val gulped down her anxiety, "It's your fault you know!"
"Mine!?"
"You just had to blurt out I was your advisor!" Val said in a harsh whisper, "now I have to keep up appearances with your sisters."
"W-well…" Brooklyn turned away with a look of guilt, "look, it's only for a few days, once my other sisters get here I'll tell them straight up, that…"
"That-" Val parroted after Brooklyn's pause.
"That, we are…"
"Uh-huh~"
"Thatwereengaged," Brooklyn rushed in a hushed voice looking around to make sure no one heard her.
"I still don't get why we have to be so hush-hush about it," Val said with a frown, "are you embarrassed about me or something?"
"W-what?! No!" Brooklyn denied vehemently.
With her head down, the blonde Cruiser says back in a quiet tone, "I just don't want my sisters finding out through hearsay."
"Fine~" Val let out an exasperated sigh before changing the subject to their task at hand, "so anyway… What should I be doing right now? How can I be more… advisor…y?"
"Don't talk like that for one," Brooklyn listed off, "y'know what? Don't even talk, just stand there and nod."
"Am I that unconvincing?" Val says, straightening up her clothes in vain attempt to look presentable.
"On second thought," Brooklyn pinched at the bridge of her nose, "I shouldn't have brought you here, these two are…"
"Huh?"
"Remember what Biloxi said back in Panama?" Brooklyn tries to jog Val's memory, "you have to be cautious around these two, they can be a bit… touchy"
The door to the main office swung open in front of them suddenly.
"Ah! Frau Brooklyn!"
Val stood in shock with her jaw hanging open, unable to turn her eyes away from the bombshell of a woman standing by the office threshold. The smile the woman wore was almost reminiscent of St. Louis' but there was something more behind it, Val thought, like some kind of unquenchable hunger.
"Prinz Eugen," swiftly recovering from her initial shock, Brooklyn greeted back with a curt nod.
"It has been far too long," the Iron Blood Heavy Cruiser stepped past Brooklyn's extended hand before wrapping her arms around the Light Cruiser suddenly.
Val blushed as the silver haired beauty, pressed up against her fiance, her hands roaming a but too close to her posterior.
Before Val could voice some sort of protest, Brooklyn had already pushed Eugen off, keeping the Heavy Cruiser at bay with a firm hand in her face.
"Always playing so hard to get~" Eugen pouted, muffled by Brooklyn's palm.
"And your skinship is as irrepressible as ever…"
Eugen let out an accepting chuckle, finally relenting her attempts at a hug.
"Brooklyn!" Another voice from inside the office greeted, "it's always a pleasure to have you!"
"Wales," Brooklyn dipped her head once again.
"You truly are a sight for sore eyes," Wales takes the Cruiser's hand into her own, before placing her lips upon it. The glint on Brooklyn's finger not entirely lost on the Battleship.
ahem Val audibly cleared her throat.
"Oh dear~,this one appears displeased with us," Eugen held her cheek with a playful smirk, "so~ who is this tasty little morsel?"
"Valentina," Val answered with a stern voice, but even she herself couldn't tell what kind of face she was making as Eugen politely shook her hand, "Valentina Hermosa."
"Ah! So you are miss Val-" Wales went to take her hand as well but Brooklyn quickly brought her lips close to the Battleship's ear.
"If you lay a single inappropriate finger on her," Brooklyn whispers, "I'll be sure to let Hood know the goings on in this office of yours…"
A shiver shot up the royal's spine heeding the Cruiser's words. Everything finally clicked into place as she shakily took Val's hand into her own, feeling the same cold metal band around the girl's finger.
"I-it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance." An abnormally stiff Wales greeted, hoping that was enough to appease the Eagle Union Diplomat.

Blocking out the sun with her palm, Massachusetts continued to look up. Not at the sky above but at her hand itself. She missed the warmth that had gripped it so tightly last night.
Closing her eyes, she could still see the slender shoulders of the Vichy privateer walking out ahead. To think such a small frame held such a vast amount of power and ferocity. With her thoughts turning back to their brief but intense fight back during war, Massachusetts couldn't help but shudder at the memory of Jean's blood soaked visage, her wavering posture as she struggled to even stand, but even being on the verge of sinking, the almost savage smile that she wore stuck out most to her.
"Oof!" A familiar voice let out as it bounced backwards on the floor.
Lost in her mind, Massachusetts barely felt the impact at her chest, but looking down she found Helena rubbing at her butt after her fall.
"S-sorry!" the girl cried, "I-I wasn't looking where I was going!"
"No. It's my fault too," the Battleship helped the Cruiser off the floor.
"Thanks," the youngest Brooklyn blushed with embarrassment as she dusted herself off, "I was trying to get a list together in my head…"
"A list?"
"Yeah," Helena nodded, "I was headed to Akashi's to pick up some ingredients for Brooklyn's party."
"I can help you out if you need a hand." Massachusetts offered, seeing as how she had nothing better to do today. The Battleship couldn't help but smile to herself as she watched Helena rock her head side to side, contemplating if she should accept her offer or not.
"It'd be no big deal really," Massachusetts reassured.
"It is gonna be a lot of stuff…" Helena mulled to herself, "sure! If you don't mind."
It had been a long while since Massachusetts had been alone with the youngest Brooklyn but watching her from behind as she led the way, there was an air of confidence that wasn't there in the past. Like each step she took was infused with a level of certainty not unlike her eldest sister.
The bell over Akashi's door rang in Massachusetts's ears yet again as she followed the older Cruiser inside. She stood by the entrance watching Helena list off a bunch items at a nodding Akashi. Whatever the girl was planning seemed fairly extravagant just with the sheer amount of things she requisitioned. Massachusetts guessed it made sense, seeing as how this was the first time Helena will be seeing all her sisters in one place after a so long, she couldn't blame her for being a little excited.
"Massachusetts!" Helena called, "did you want anything while we're here?"
"Me?" The Battleship was caught off guard by the offer, "n-no its alright…"
"Aww~" the girl pouted, "I still wanna pay you back since you're helping me out'n all and we haven't seen each other in a while."
"Really I'm good so dont sweat it," Massachusetts smiled back. It wasn't a surprise to see this girl was still so concerned with ever body else and their wellbeing, it was nice to see somethings about her haven't changed.
"As the older one it's only right that I do something for you," Helena puffed out her chest in an attempt to look more authoritative to the much taller Battleship, "I'm going to be baking once I get these ingredients back, so why don't you join me in the mess hall later? I-if you aren't busy."
Helena's home made snacks? How long has it been she's had any? The thought echoed loudly in Massachusetts's head as an eager look crossed her face, "sure!"
After waiting for several minutes for Akashi and her Meowficers to return from the depths of the store, they came back carrying stacks of bags, one on top of the other.
"Sorry for the last minute request!" Helena bowed after seeing the mountain of supplies.
"Its no problem nyah! Anything for one of my best customers!" Akashi reassured.
Attempting to take the stacks of stuff into her arms, Helena starts to teeter along with the goods.
"Woah there," Massachusetts caught the Cruiser by her back, stabilizing her before taking several of the bags into her arms. "I'm here to help, remember."
"He he," Helena chuckled sticking her tongue out like she forgot.
She's still a klutz…
<><><>o7<><><>
"Don't be a stranger now~" Prinz Eugen sang into Brooklyn's ear, her goodbye hug seemed like it wouldn't end until Wales had pulled her off.
"Yes, my door will always be open to you," the royal bowed, nervous to make any sort of physical contact with her two guests, "and since you two are here on holiday, please relax and enjoy all that this base has to offer."
"Of course," Brooklyn smiled back, "I'd like to see where all the budget goes."
With that said Brooklyn and Val disappeared out the office doors leaving just the two prince's inside.
"Even when she's not working she's working," Wales chuckled, allowing herself to breathe now that Brooklyn was gone.
"Something's changed about her," Eugen said next to Wales' ear as she draped her arms over the Battleship's shoulders from behind.
"So you didn't notice it?" Wales brought her own hand up in front of herself, "the ring on their fingers."
"A ring? Oh dear…" The Iron Blood's eyes went wide, "...I fear I have to apologize to little miss Valentina when I get the chance."
"Oh~ So even you're capable of remorse," Wales said with an exaggerated look of shock.
"Hmph," Eugen pushed off the Battleship's back, making her way towards the door, "even I won't be as crass to take something someone has already claimed. Now…" Eugen placed her hand upon the door, staring at it for a bit, "if only someone here wasn't such a coward…"
"C-coward? What do you mean by that?!" Wales shot up from her seat, but her secretary had already left the room.
<><><>o7<><><>
Brooklyn craned her neck upwards, staring up at the team of Manjuu setting down the giant wooden crate she had delivered from Panama.
"So that's supposed to be a gift for Queen Elizabeth?" Val asked as the shadow of the crate passed over her.
"That's what Wales said, yeah."
"Any idea what it is?"
"Probably a statue of some sort," Brooklyn shrugged, "knowing that little Queen."
"Extravagant…"
"Quite…" the Light Cruiser disparaged the Royal Navy's callous use of funds.
With a thump, the large crate came to rest at the center of the circular path, kicking up some dust in the process.
"So this is what they had you carry?" Massachusetts said from behind the pair.
The Battleship had dozens of bags hanging of each arm as well as stacked above them, making it hard to see her face.
"That's what I was carrying," Brooklyn said back in surprise, "but what in the world is all that?!"
"Just some supplies!" Helena had poked her head around Massachusetts from behind, startling her older sister a bit.
"She was gonna carry them all herself," Massachusetts tried gesturing to the Cruiser behind her.
"I told you to let me carry some at least!" Helena pouted at the Battleship.
Brooklyn froze up for a second, as a memory of the old Helena overlayed itself into her mind. Whether or not there was an old Helena, Helena is still Helena and it wouldn't change the fact that the girl standing in front of her is her little sister.
But she wasn't expecting to run into her sister so suddenly. Of course she wanted to see her but her nerves weren't quite ready. Brooklyn did mean what she said the other day when she first saw Helena again after four long years, that she looked good. Too good for someone who could barely crack a smile at the time. Watching her banter with Massachusetts now, it's as if she hardly had any trouble at all. Helena has grown so much, and she didn't need the help of her older sister at all…
"One step at a time… remember?" A memory of Val's voice echoed in Brooklyn's mind.
If she wanted to be a part of her sister's life as she once was, it would have to begin right now. Missing this opportunity would be something she could come to regret for the rest of her life.
"H-how about this?" Brooklyn grabbed half of the stack from Massachusetts arms before distributing some to Helena and a few to Val, "we can all help carry some."
Helena pouted even further as she stomped her foot at her older sister. "Brooklyn~" she whined behind her stack, "this is supposed to be for you! So you should let us handle this."
"If that's the case," Brooklyn already started walking off, "then that's all the more reason I should be helping out."
"And besides," Brooklyn yells already a distance away, "I get to spend time with my little sister!"
"Geez~" Helena burrows her face in the bags she was carrying, the tips of her ears glowing red.
Val quietly laughed to herself, knowing Brooklyn was probably too embarrassed to say that to Helena directly.
"Brooklyn! Wait!" Helena shot her head back up.
"Uh uh!" Brooklyn refused from a distance, "I'm helping and that's that!"
"No! You're going the wrong way! Helena shouted again, "we're going to the mess hall!"
Massachusetts and Val broke out in a snicker as Brooklyn stopped in her tracks, laughing all the while as the off duty diplomat swiftly about faced, retracing her steps in a hurried fashion.
<><><>o7<><><>
"So~" Wichita said over the rhythmic clinking of whisks beating against the walls of several bowls, "Cleveland…"
"Hmm-" the Light Cruiser hummed, not looking up from what she was doing, "what's up?"
"Whatcha workin on?" Wichita poked at the blonde's cheek trying to get a reaction out of her, "Helena's got you helpin her again?"
"Helena hasn't got me doing anything," the Light Cruiser said with a huff, "I'm helping out because I want too."
"Okay okay…" Wichita backed off.
"Why are you even here?"
"Everyone's busy doing something and I'm bored."
"Then why don't you put on an apron and help me out?"
"Hahaha!" The Heavy Cruiser's boisterous laughter startled the Manjuu in the kitchen, "y'know me! I prefer eating my food to cooking it!"
"Then just go sit down and watch!" Cleveland said more than a little annoyed.
Wichita held her arms out in front of her to calm the Light Cruiser down as she did what she was told, but sitting around calmly fiddling with cooking utensils could only placate the Heavy Cruiser for so long.
"Pst… Cleveland…" a small smirk formed on Wichita's lips as she just thought of something that was for sure going to get Cleveland to react, "psstt…"
"What?!" The blonde snapped with a harsh whisper, matching the Heavy Cruiser's attempt at trying to be discreet.
Tugging at Cleveland's apron, Wichita's smirk only widened, "say~ why don't we surprise Helena?"
"And do what?"
"And by we, I mean you," the Heavy Cruiser spoke into Cleveland's ear from behind, playing with the hem of her apron, "you could try greeting her in nothing but this apron~ I'm sure that would totally make her day~"
Cleveland's brow furrowed trying to make sense of Wichita's words. Why would she greet her in nothing but an apron? Nothing… but… an apron. Nothing…
"W-w-why would I do that?!" Cleveland's face glowed a bright red finally catching on to Wichita's dirty joke.
"Hahaha! Oh man!" The Heavy Cruiser nearly doubled over in laughter, "the look on your face!"
Cleveland did her best to ignore Wichita's teasing but the bowl of cream she was working at was whisked way past its intended consistency.
"I bet Helena could pull the look off," Wichita wiggled her eyebrows at Cleveland, "she does have that rockin' body~"
No sooner she said that, the sound of a bowl clattering onto the countertop rang throughout the kitchen. Wichita's laughter had transcended past the audible seeing as how Cleveland's entire face lit up all the way to the tips of her ears like a beacon.
"W-w-what are you even saying?!" The Light Cruiser whipped the whisk in her hand at Wichita, flicking batter in her direction.
With an audible splat, the creamy batter dripped down the Heavy Cruiser's face.
"Oh~ you've done it now!" The chocolate covered lids of Wichita's eyes slowly cracked open. Scooping what she could in her hands, the Heavy Cruiser slung it straight back at a still flustered Cleveland.
Before long the Manjuu in the kitchen scrambled out for the sake of their own safety.
<><><>o7<><><>
The mess hall should have stayed the same as Helena left it, quiet and calm. With the busy chatter and commotion that came during lunch still a few hours away. But the panicked Manjuu huddling near the entrance to the kitchen and the loud clattering coming from within betrayed any sense of tranquility.
"What's going on?" Val had asked Helena who had been beside her the whole time, but when she turned her head, a gust of wind had blown in her eyes and the Light Cruiser was gone.
Val's eyes darted around, spotting Helena already by the kitchen's entrance. There was a good seven ~ eight meters from where they first entered and she couldn't recall Helena even moving in the first place.
"Ya can't hit me throwing like that!" A familiar voice can be heard yelling inside.
"Wichita…" Brooklyn shook her head, watching helplessly as Helena slammed the kitchen doors wide open.
The two sole occupants inside turned towards the door in shock. The heavy overwhelming pressure radiating from the kitchen's entrance freezing them in place.
"Y-yo~ H-Helena!" The hand full of chocolate batter had dripped off Wichita's fingers. The audible splat it made filled the silence that fell over the mess hall.
"I-I was just h-helpin out… y'know…" The color from Wichita's face had drained, stuttering her words as she forgot how to breathe.
"T-take it easy n-now…" the redhead tried to back away as Helena slowly approached, but her feet wouldn't budge.
"I-I'll help you guys clean up!" The Heavy Cruiser's voice sounded almost desperate as Helena closed the distance.
"W-wait! T-think about this!"
That was the last everyone heard from Wichita's mouth as a loud thud echoed from the kitchen.
Brooklyn and Massachusetts winced as Helena emerged back out, dragging an unconscious Wichita by her collar out of the kitchen.
"Looks like I have a little cleaning to do before we start," Helena sighed, dragging Wichita to a nearby wall, letting the Heavy Cruiser's body slump to the ground after letting go.
<><><>o7<><><>
Cleveland counted herself lucky she didn't end up like Wichita. For a second there, she thought, that she too was done for. Closing her eyes bracing for a knockout, all she got was a towel to the face as Helena tried to clean the mess that she found herself coated in.
"Geez~" Helena frowned at the blonde, "it's my fault for leaving you guys alone."
"N-no!" Cleveland let out, "it's my fau-"
"It's fine~" Helena giggled as she wiped a glob of chocolate batter off of the blonde's nose, "Just help me clean up!"
Cleveland's face grew a little red as she watched Helena lick her fingers clean.
"Mhmm~!" Helena beamed, "that's really good!"
"I-I was only following the recipe on the note…"
"Dunkerque really knows her stuff…" Helena rubbed at her chin as she tried to analyze the flavor in her mouth.
"Dunkerque?" Brooklyn asked as she plopped down the supplies on a clean spot on the counter, "I didn't realize she was at the Joint Base."
"No. She's not," Helena shook her head, "Richelieu gave me one of her recipes."
"That's rare…" Brooklyn said to herself, knowing that Battleship wasn't known to just hand out her treasured recipes so easily, "so what's the occasion?"
"It's probably not much of a secret, but…" Helena furrowed her brow deliberating whether or not she should say or not.
"It's fine~ whatever you say won't leave this room," Brooklyn smiled before turning to the other girls in the room for confirmation, "right girls?"
Val and Massachusetts both nod.
"They're for someone's launchday," Helena, still reluctant to give up all the info.
"Intel is power," Brooklyn held up her finger, "so if you've got some to share…"
"But…" saying it would be like betraying Richelieu's trust.
"Jean Bart…" Massachusetts spoke, coming to a sudden realization.
"H-how'd you know?!" Helena panicked.
"I-" the Battleship blushed, "I just happened to remember… just now…"
"Oh ho~" Brooklyn and Val shot a knowing look towards Massachusetts simultaneously.
"She's that girl you were with last night," Val said, "hand in hand…"
"Oh ho~" Brooklyn said louder in surprise, "you work fast."
"I-I was just walking her back to the dorms…" the normally aloof Battleship fidgeted in place staring a hole in the ground by her feet.
"I didn't know you guys were friends?" Helena asked, "but that's great! You could help us bake some Pain au Chocolat for her if you want."
"Y-yes!" Massachusetts agreed a little more enthusiastically than intended.
"I could help out too if you don't mind," Val raised her hand, "if you don't mind an extra hand in the kitchen."
"Sure! I didn't really want to bother anyone else but we do have a lot to prep for."
"Val is one of the best cooks I know~" Brooklyn vouched.
"Is that right?!" Helena enthused, happy to meet someone else who knows their way around the kitchen.
"Well~" Val chuckled, not used to the attention she was receiving, "I'm definitely better than your sister here."
"That's not saying much…" Massachusetts laughed.
Cleveland couldn't bring herself to join in on the conversation seeing as how she was largely responsible for the mess they currently cleaning. And now that they had to start from scratch that feeling just compounded itself.
"Hey Helena," Brooklyn called, "where do you keep the extra aprons?"
Aprons, Cleveland blushed, cursing Wichita for putting weird thoughts in her head. The younger Cruiser's cheeks darkened even further not even realizing she was staring at Helena as she carefully hung her apron around her neck. Watching intently as she deftly tied the knot behind her back, before pulling her long and beautiful hair out from underneath. The air in Cleveland's lungs grew thin, watching in slow motion as Helena's hair fell back down, like some kind of swan decending upon a lake, framing her body like an exquisite portrait.
Cleveland wasn't blind, she was always aware just how beautiful her best friend is but she always tried to push it into the back of her mind. An act she was almost always successful at, but Wichita's recent words did wonders to destroy that. The Brooklyn sister's uniforms were quite the sight to behold and Helena's was no exception. Cleveland thought she was used to it by now, given how often the two were together, but she was finding it difficult to pull her eyes away from her best friend's figure.
"Clevie?" Helena said a little worried, "what's wrong? Your face is all red."
"N-nothings wrong!" The shorter blonde let out a nervous laugh, "Just Wichita putting weird thoughts in my head!"
"Great… what'd she say this time?" Helena said, all too familiar with the Heavy Cruiser's antics.
Cleveland would sooner scuttle herself than reveal the whole truth of what Wichita said, "It's… just forget I said anything…"
"Alright…" Helena pouted, a little disappointed Cleveland wouldn't tell her.
<><><>o7<><><>
With the clean up done, the girls were finally able to start their prep work. With each of them in their own little station responsible for each step of the process.
Val stared at the little note Helena had shown her committing the directions listed to memory. It was a shame she couldn't tell anyone else about this apparent super secret recipe but she figured it wouldn't be a problem if she used it for herself every now and again.
Helena and Val moved about the kitchen like some kind of synchronized, well oiled machine, stunning the rest of the girls as they struggled to keep up the pace.
Brooklyn was always fascinated with the way her sister and fiance worked, but seeing them both at it together all at once was something else.
Cleveland at the best of times could barely keep up with Helena when she was in the zone, but now, with Val involved, there was absolutely no hope.
Massachusetts was off in her own little corner making almost as much of a mess as Wichita did, whisking her bowl with a little too much force.
The team of Manjuu worked like an assembly line, rolling the dough that would become the pastries base.
"Hey Helena," Val called to her newly found cooking partner, "you think you could give Brook a hand? She looks a little confused as to what to do next."
"Brooklyn?" Helena turned to her sister who had just begun pouring the molten chocolate into each mold.
"W-what? I'm good," Brooklyn answered back, slightly confused as to what Val was doing," I don't ne-"
"-Here like this," Helena cut in, guiding her sister's hand as she helped to evenly pour the chocolate.
Val smiled to herself, knowing her fiance didn't really need help, and if she did she herself could step in lend a hand, but if she could engineer a way to get Brooklyn to spend some quality time with her sister she would take any opportunity she saw.
<><><>o7<><><>
Denver and Colombia could barely contain a snicker as a red faced Wichita sat down on the floor with her arms and legs crossed, still coated in a fine layer of chocolate, doing her best to ignore the two Light Cruisers.
"For a second, we thought you just came from the Iron Blood dorms, pfftt" Colombia broke out into laughter.
"Oh, its only chocolate…" Denver said in relief as she swiped some from the Heavy Cruiser's face.
"What the hell did you think it was?!" Wichita lost her temper as the two ran for cover inside the kitchen.

2023.06.08 20:51 Practical-Claim-9522 HELP!! 2 month and a week y/o kitten

I adopted this male kitten it was two months a day old and he seemed healthy when i adopted him. They told me that they had just rescued him that same day and gave him the vaccines and was healthy. That was Thursday of June. I’m concerned about his behavior sometimes and some things that had been happening. For instance he doesn’t want to use the litter box i’ve bought a soft litter box and put not too much because they want something flat to just poop on because he’s been peeing and pooping on the floor. Second is food. The night before this day he threw up around 4am and then this morning he threw up again and didn’t want to eat the food i gave him so i gave him IAms after serving the food in the morning and he started eating it. he only tends to eat in the morning and doesn’t eat much throughout the day I saw that kittens his age are supposed to eat 4-6 times a day. secondly sometimes he just sits on the floor looking around but he sleeps a lot too which scares me but i also saw that kittens usually sleep between 18-22 hours a day. He does play when he’s awake which is good or he’ll sit on the window. We do have stray kittens that are older and their mom out on our yard but they are no where near or have touched my 2 month kitten. I also havent let him go outside bc the shelter told me that he has to stay inside for a bit. I also went to a check up on monday and the doctor says he’s all good and told him about my concerns about the litter box situations and gave me tips on how to make him potty there but it hasn’t worked. Then his meowing is weird. it’s inconsistent it’ll be raspy and cutty but i think it’s when he’s trying to be sad and show he wants attention then it’s a loud regular cry. I don’t think it’s one of those throat things because he doesn’t show any symptoms. Please I need help/tips that could possibly help me figure out my kitten

2023.06.08 20:46 Mikey-506 Psychogenic Shivers also known as autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR)

The slight differences between effects of Psychogenic shivers and Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR)
Psychogenic shivers, also known as autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR), can elicit a range of effects in individuals who experience them. Here are some commonly reported effects associated with psychogenic shivers:
Effects of psychogenic shivers (ASMR):
  1. Tingling sensations: The hallmark effect of psychogenic shivers is the tingling sensations that typically begin on the scalp and may spread throughout the body. These tingles are often described as pleasurable and may be accompanied by a feeling of warmth or gentle waves of energy.
  2. Relaxation and calmness: Psychogenic shivers have a reputation for inducing relaxation and a sense of calm. Many individuals seek out triggers to help them unwind, relieve stress, and promote a state of relaxation.
  3. Euphoria and positive emotions: Some people experience a state of euphoria or intense pleasure during psychogenic shivers. The sensations can elicit a profound sense of well-being and happiness, potentially leading to an uplifted mood.
  4. Improved sleep and decreased insomnia: Psychogenic shivers have been reported to assist with sleep initiation and enhance sleep quality. The soothing nature of the tingling sensations can aid in relaxation, contributing to better sleep.
  5. Stress reduction and anxiety relief: Individuals who experience psychogenic shivers often find them helpful in reducing stress and alleviating symptoms of anxiety. The sensations can provide a soothing distraction and help calm an overactive mind.
  6. Improved focus and concentration: Psychogenic shivers may enhance focus and concentration for some individuals. The tingling sensations and associated relaxation can create a heightened state of attentiveness, potentially improving concentration during activities.
  7. Sensory pleasure: Many individuals find psychogenic shivers pleasurable in themselves. The tingling sensations and the sensory experience associated with triggers can be enjoyable, akin to a form of sensory entertainment.
  8. Emotional regulation: Psychogenic shivers can assist in emotional regulation and serve as a coping mechanism for some individuals. The sensations may help individuals relax, find comfort, and manage their emotions more effectively.
  9. Connection and social bonding: Psychogenic shivers can foster a sense of connection and community. Many people enjoy sharing their experiences, engaging with ASMR content creators, and participating in discussions related to psychogenic shivers, which can provide a sense of belonging and social bonding.
Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a subjective phenomenon, and the specific effects can vary among individuals. However, here are some common effects reported by individuals who experience ASMR:
Effects of ASMR:
  1. Tingling sensations: ASMR is characterized by tingling or static-like sensations that typically start on the scalp and may spread down the neck, spine, and limbs. These tingles are often described as pleasurable and relaxing.
  2. Relaxation and stress reduction: ASMR triggers are known to induce a state of relaxation and calmness. Many individuals seek out ASMR content to unwind, de-stress, and promote a sense of relaxation.
  3. Improved mood and well-being: ASMR experiences can elicit positive emotions and contribute to an overall sense of well-being. Some individuals report feeling happier, more content, or even euphoric during and after ASMR sessions.
  4. Sleep aid: ASMR has been used by some people as a tool to help them fall asleep or improve the quality of their sleep. The soothing nature of ASMR triggers and the associated relaxation can potentially aid in achieving a more restful sleep.
  5. Reduced anxiety: ASMR may have an anxiety-reducing effect for some individuals. The gentle sounds, whispering, or personal attention in ASMR videos can create a comforting and soothing environment that helps alleviate anxiety symptoms.
  6. Enhanced focus and concentration: Engaging with ASMR content can promote a state of focused attention and concentration. Some individuals find that ASMR triggers help them relax and concentrate better on tasks or activities.
  7. Tactile and auditory pleasure: ASMR triggers can provide a unique sensory experience that individuals find pleasurable. The sounds, visuals, or tactile sensations associated with ASMR content can be enjoyable in and of themselves.
  8. Emotional regulation: ASMR has been reported to help individuals regulate their emotions. Some people use ASMR as a way to manage or cope with negative emotions, stress, or overwhelming situations.
  9. Personal attention and connection: Many ASMR videos involve simulated personal attention, such as whispering or role-playing scenarios. For some individuals, this can create a sense of connection and alleviate feelings of loneliness or isolation.
While there are many similarities between ASMR and psychogenic shivers, there are a few effects that may differ between the two phenomena. These differences may vary from person to person, but here are some effects that could be more specific to each:
Effects specific to ASMR:
  1. ASMR triggers: ASMR experiences often involve specific triggers, such as whispering, tapping, or soft sounds, that induce the tingling sensations and relaxation response. These triggers are unique to ASMR and are not necessarily associated with psychogenic shivers.
  2. Autonomous response: ASMR is often characterized by the autonomous nature of the response, meaning that the tingling sensations and relaxation occur without intentional effort. Individuals who experience ASMR often report that the response is involuntary and occurs spontaneously when exposed to triggers.
Effects specific to psychogenic shivers:
  1. Warmth or waves of energy: Some individuals describe experiencing a feeling of warmth or gentle waves of energy accompanying the tingling sensations during psychogenic shivers. This additional sensory element may be distinct from ASMR experiences.
  2. Euphoria and intense pleasure: Psychogenic shivers may be more commonly associated with intense feelings of euphoria and pleasure. The emotional response during psychogenic shivers can be particularly profound for some individuals.
  3. Sensory amplification: Psychogenic shivers may amplify sensory experiences beyond the tingling sensations, leading to heightened sensitivity to touch, sound, or other sensory stimuli. This heightened sensory perception can contribute to the overall experience of psychogenic shivers.
TL;DR (As compressed as it can be):
Psychogenic shivers, also known as ASMR, elicit a range of effects. Common effects include tingling sensations, relaxation, euphoria, improved sleep, stress reduction, enhanced focus, sensory pleasure, emotional regulation, and connection. Psychogenic shivers are characterized by tingling sensations that spread from the scalp, accompanied by warmth or waves of energy. They can induce intense pleasure and amplify sensory experiences beyond the tingling sensations.
ASMR, on the other hand, shares similarities with psychogenic shivers but also has its unique effects. Common effects of ASMR include tingling sensations, relaxation, improved mood, sleep aid, reduced anxiety, enhanced focus, tactile and auditory pleasure, emotional regulation, and personal attention/connection. ASMR triggers, autonomous response, and the absence of warmth or waves of energy are specific to ASMR.

2023.06.08 20:09 Hank_the_Tank_LDP3 HOT TAKES! with updates on my replacement crew.

Before I start HOT TAKES! I want to announce the results of my latest round of auditions to replace my crew.
First and foremost, Kevin is back. Not Kevin 'Sunroof', but Todd 'Kevin'. He made a beautiful and sincere apology about his part in Dormangate. Now he's back in the crew and no longer banned from O'Malley's! WELCOME BACK KEVO!
Second, I took a real risk and allowed a foreigner to join. It was a mistake, but I was hoping to reuse the nickname Tomcat for ease. It lasted all of 12 hours. Dude kept talking about this guy named King. Is the King of England named King Lear? I couldn't stand it anymore. He also kept making jokes that his name is Tom Baker, but he doesn't have a time machine. What the hell is that supposed to mean? Then he only drank tea, and that's against the Boston Tea Party. Whole thing was a bust.
McNugget, Pythagoras, Kevin, and I are still looking for 2 more people to join our crew! Also, could someone tell Pythagoras to answer our calls and texts? Maybe tell them to show up to O'Malleys for the weekly meeting too? Can you also let them know that we still haven't gotten our invites to be co-bestmen or men of honor in their wedding and we are getting a little offended because that is part of being a crew.
Now onto HOT TAKES!
And now we're back to Pride stuff and I did my part last week. Tune into this weeks Non Stop Talk Talk with Hank, Paul, & David Pythagoras Kevin. This week I talk about how Back to the Future 3 is the best one.
Until next time, I'm Hank 'The Tank' Jefferson. You stay classy, LDP!
