Traveling in mid July (It's probably going to be hot) for our honeymoon. My partner and I have a list of things to do but will mostly let the day take us wherever it may go. We kind of like self exploration but any suggestions and improvements to the given schedule are very welcome!

We split Tokyo into two stays. The first stay focuses on exploration and the return trip is chill/shopping. This is mainly to account for wanting to be in Kyoto during the Gion festival.
We were also thinking of just buying most of our clothes in Japan - Good/Bad idea? Would save room in the suitcase if we were already planning on buying

How easy is it to travel within Hakone?
I'm worried I didn't allot enough time in Osaka, but at the same time I couldn't think of much to do there other than sight see. We aren't into things like Universal (a little too busy for us), reason we didn't book any big theme parks.
Does this List look viable, is it too full/not full enough?

Today we are here to observe the high-flying world of the Sky Kingdom and its sky dwellers: the Skywings

Skywings (or "Mountain Dragons", "Red Dragons", "Fire Dragons" or "O-my-God-a-dragon-!") are the tribe that comes closest to the popular human imagination of "dragon ", both in appearance and abilities.
They are dragons in warm colors such as red, orange and yellow and are distinguished by their enormous wings, much larger than in other tribes. Long, corkscrew-shaped horns are also recognizable signs.

As already specified in the previous lesson, they are close relatives of Mudwings and Icewings.
​

Their abilities border on the trivial, literally having powers that all other tribes have.
They are generally great fighters both on the ground and in the air, where they excel. Thanks to their wings and streamlined shape, they are faster to fly than other tribes, approaching 200km/h in a dive.
They can breathe fire, like almost everyone else in this place. however, on the other hand, they can keep the fire going until it reaches its maximum temperature (almost hot enough to become white fire).
When two baby Skywings share the same egg, the larger of the two inadvertently sucks the other's fire, killing it. At this point the survivor will have acquired extremely hot and flammable scales, so hot that they burn what they touch (useful in combat, not so much in social relations). These dragons are called "firescales" and are usually killed in the egg

Skywings society is aristocratic in nature, and they can generally be described as "Snobbish", "Aggressive" or "Annoyed". But this is a simple generalization, in fact many Skywings are also "annoying"
They are much smarter than other tribes, as they kill eggs with Animus dragons. This may sound barbaric but considering that Animus can destroy the world with one phrase and the only thing stopping them from doing more lethal spells is the potential transformation into bloodthirsty maniacs, it's potentially the best choice

Their society is of a high class and they are overall very refined in art, music and entertainment. The Skywings buildings are the most beautiful on the continent, almost equaled only by the Seawings structures (next lesson).
The puppies are raised in a "Wingery", which is basically an aviary.
The best part of their culture is the amazing traditions like funerals, weddings and parades. Attending it is highly recommended for travellers
Once the most famous event was the gladiatorial-type shows in the Arena of the Royal Palace, but this practice has fortuitously fallen into disuse.

The Sky Kingdom is the largest of all kingdoms and borders on literally all others.
It is a gigantic mountain range that cuts the continent from north to south, starting from the "wing" to the "abdomen".
They are mountains with a temperate to boreal climate (far north), covered in forests of all existing types of trees, with a varied fauna and flora.
The mountains (the already mentioned Claws of the Clouds Mountains) are extremely high, even reaching 6 km in height, with the Jade Mountain exceeding 6.5 (still lower than Evereste, but definitely more habitable).
It is a highly recommended place for all mountaineers and campers, also considering that the inhabitants have eaten all the bears in the area.

Hey all- There were a few overwhelmingly favored things from the survey that will be put in motion right away. I will eventually publish the results for everyone to see, but I want to clean it up first.

1. 71% of users said they either wanted the flair requirement to stay or continue testing. However, we also received quite a bit of written feedback about it as well. Considering all that was said, we have decided to make one adjustment. Instead of the post being removed, it will receive an automatic report to the mod queue. All this does is alert us that an unflaired user has posted and we need to confirm that it isn't spam or a rule breaking post. The post will go up like normal, but there will be a comment from auto-mod stating that flairs are encouraged. (At least for now, we may adjust that.) User flairs will still be highly encouraged and will be stated as such in the welcome message to new subs, the wiki, and in the sidebar.
2. Image posts are staying! 90% of respondents picked one of the options that said to keep the image posts either permanently or as a continued test. We'll reserve the right to turn them off at anytime if things get out of control with memes and shitposts. (For those unaware, this is why they were turned off previously.) If they do get turned off, you will still be allowed to post using a link to a 3rd party website within a text post as long as it makes sense in context and doesn't break illusion. There may be some further tweaking for rule 6. We still need to review all the comments and results as a group, but it was very clear that people want the image posts to stick around.
3. 76% of the total respondents said that Upper Duck Pond should be hard canon along with the town being named Lower Duck Pond. This was a landslide compared to the other suggested possible canon locations, which all scored under 50%. Does this really change anything for the sub? Not really. We aren't even setting anything other than the name and that it is the nearest neighboring town. Is it a rival? Maybe. (Let's all be real, UDP sucks.) Is it north of LDP? Probably, but this place is weird, could be in any other direction. Are there other neighboring communities? Of course there are, but UDP is the closest. Even if closest means 1 minute closer than the other towns.
4. While Hydroelectric City and Rosewater fell under the 50% threshold, the mod teams from both Reddit and Discord feel that making both canon now is the right move. Again, it really doesn't change much considering how often both are used. Hydroelectric City will be referred to as "the closest large city" with no distance or direction. Rosewater will be referred to as "a seaside town frequented by many residents." Again, no distance or direction. People will be allowed to make up new big cities and seaside towns. This just gives new users the point of reference right away without having to learn it after months of paying attention to posts.
5. There will be a banned/restricted subject list coming. What was clear from the results is that there are certain things people don't want to see in LDP or only want to see if it has a good storyline. What we will be doing over the next few months is testing out both Reddit's banned words tool and Automod to see if it is either are feasible option for controlling the content we would like to avoid in the sub. In the meantime, we encourage you to report anything that makes you uncomfortable or you feel pushes the line on being appropriate for a town forum. The reporting reason for Rule 8 has been changed to "Needs Mod review". All reporting does is alert us to something that needs to be looked at. We'd rather have over reporting than under. If it gets out of control, we'll let everyone know.

I think it’s funny how I’m actually doing more shit now that I started taking my meds again. I also lost the need of wanting to be high, so I guess that’s good? I mean I’ll probably get high soon anyways because soon I’ll legally be allowed to actually be high.
I didn’t really do much for the beginning of the day besides chilling with my grandparents and my dad. I like that they visit, but I wish they take some time for themselves. They want to help out with my dad, but fuck they’ve already done a lot their entire lives. They’re stubborn about it though, which I understand since he is their son.
I was in a bad mood around the morning, I’m not sure why. It just happened out of nowhere.
I started getting work at around 3 PM. My uncle wanted me to come in at 4:30, even though the reception isn’t until 8 PM. We didn’t do much besides talking about the events next week and my first few days at the other job.
I knew this event might end up being a shitshow once I started seeing some of the guests bringing in bags of popcorn. I was trying so hard not to hand out deathstares to them since outside food isn’t allowed. But given that the salespeople are spineless as fuck, the clients are allowed to fuck us over.
The guests were alright though, they weren’t really needy. Only complained about it being too hot, which is understandable given we don’t have an AC even though we should. The only problem was the fact that the room was so crowded. I was just happy that people ended up leaving faster than expected, shit, the bride and groom even ended the event early cause they wanted to get everyone ready for their wedding tomorrow lmao. I even brought some of that extra popcorn with me lmao.
My uncle and I ended up clocking out at about 11:30. He dropped me off and we said our goodbyes. I sighed once I looked into my bedroom and forgot about the fact that I washed my whites. I was too tired to even put on my bed covers properly so I figured I’d shower tomorrow morning. Ended up having some difficult sleeping.

I originally planned for this days SOTD to be Take Me For A Little While (the sample of Ghost Town), but then I remembered that there was a demo for this track. And I’ll actually be able to give it justice compared to when I actually used it on a journal.
Ye is five years old today. I love Ghost Town, It’s one of favorite songs. It’s one of the few songs where I have the lyrics memorized.

Yes it's a fantasy story where the good guys defeat the bad guys but if you look at real history some of the most horrible actions have won the war, the reason people hate Tywin is not because he's evil, Ramsay and Euron are far more so. They are worse, the main reason is that basically everything Tywin does has a short-term benefit for him, and this is what makes fans angry. Tywin's main fault is that he is too realistic for a fantasy story. Finally, Tywin is a devil and a monster, but all his actions are almost pragmatic and calculated, and this is what makes Tywin a great villain.

Tywin makes Tyrion marry Sansa to secure the North, but shortly later he gives the North to Roose Bolton. These objectives seem at odds with each other. Did he marry Sansa to Tyrion as a precaution in case the Red Wedding didn't pan out? Was he okay giving up the North to the Boltons if not?
Did he intend to purge the Boltons later on so he could move Tyrion in to control the North and probably the Riverlands by extension by threatening Sansa's life?

Fujin Yumi

In Fire Emblem: Fates, the Fujin Yumi is a mystical bow that belongs to Takumi, second prince of Hoshido and pineapple too angry to die. Thousands of years before the events of Fates, the world was consumed with strife because of war amongst the First Dragons, a dozen lizardmen who argued amongst each other because none of them could agree on what to name the continent of Fateslandia. One of the First Dragons, known as the Rainbow Sage, enlisted humans in this conflict by forging five legendary weapons and giving them to his human champions. After the war ended, humans predictably kept these weapons and proceeded to beat each other senseless with them. Two of the weapons, Raijinto and the Fujin Yumi, wound up as heirlooms of the royal family that followed the Dawn Dragon. Two more, Brynhildr and Siegfried, would become property of the royal family that followed the Dusk Dragon. As penance for getting humans involved in the First Dragons' war and thus plunging humans into their own endless cycle of conflict, he had to remain alive until he undid his mistake. His time finally came when Corrin arrived in Notre Sagesse with the fifth weapon, Yato. At the Rainbow Sage's passing, Corrin would weep furiously over the death of a strange old man they met five minutes ago and who is partly responsible for the ongoing tumult between Nohr and Hoshido.
In Fates, the Fujin Yumi allows Takumi to treat terrain as having a movement cost of 1. Heroes at release gave a different effect: the Fujin Yumi essentially gave Takumi the Pass skill if his HP was least 50%. In a subsequent refine, this effect was modified to be in line with Fates: Takumi now is not slowed by terrain like forests if his HP is at least 50%. Additionally, he can also warp to nearby allies if he has his HP at 50% or more.

Windy Old Bag

Starting with the obvious, Fujin Yumi is Japanese for "wind god bow."
The Kojiki ("An Account of Ancient Matters"), written down around A.D. 712, is a chronicle of early Japanese stories and legends concerning Shinto spirituality and mythology. In the Kojiki, the creator gods Izanami and Izanagi are wed and beget the eight island chains of Japan, as well as a variety of deities. Izanami dies while giving birth to the fire god Kagutsuchi; as he is made of fire, Kagutsuchi immolates Izanami as he is born. Izanagi blames Kagutsuchi for Izanami's death and beheads him.
Izanagi then travels to Yomi, the land of the dead, determined to retrieve his wife. When he finds her in the darkness and shadow, he cannot see her face, but she tells him that she has already eaten the food of the underworld and may only return to the land of the living if she is permitted by the lords of the dead. Izanagi hates the thought of leaving Izanami behind and wants to look upon her face once more, so he lights a torch. To Izanagi's horror, Izanami is a corpse of rotten flesh, feasted upon by maggots. Izanagi flees from her and pushes a boulder in the way to seal off the entrance to the underworld.
From Izanami's head, chest, stomach, hands, legs, and pudenda is born the thunder god, Raijin. Less is said about Fūjin, his brother, who is also born from Izanami's corpse. Nonetheless, both Fūjin and Raijin, as well as several lesser oni (demons) slip out through a gap between the entrance to the underworld and the boulder that Izanagi had left behind.
Fūjin is often depicted in Japanese art as carrying a bag; this is where he keeps the winds. You may have seen a famous illustration of him if you have played Animal Crossing. Although Fūjin and Raijin are oni and therefore usually troublesome, they are said to be Japan's saviors in two different incursions from the Asian mainland, driving away a Mongol invasion in 1274 and a larger combined Mongol-Chinese-Korean invasion in 1281.

Appearances Can Be Deceiving

The Fire Emblem Wikia speculates that the Fujin Yumi is modeled on a mythical Japanese bow, the Ame-no-Makakoyumi. This bow is given to Ame-no-Wakahiko, a god of grains, when he is sent to preside over the earth when Ame-no-Hohi, another god, did not report back to the other gods for several years. Ame-no-Wakahiko goes down to the earth and falls in love with a woman named Shitateruhime. Like Ame-no-hohi, Ame-no-Wakahiko forgets to report back to the other deities. After eight years pass, the other gods send a pheasant to go look for Ame-no-Wakahiko. Seeing the bird, Ame-no-Wakahiko takes the Ame-no-Makakoyumi and shoots it. The arrow cleaves straight through the bird and reaches all the way up to Heaven. The god Takamimusubi intercepts the arrow and flings it back down to earth. The arrow drops on Ame-no-Wakahiko, killing him.
The Wikia further speculates that the Fujin Yumi's arrows are modeled on the Ame-no-Habaya arrows. I admit that I could not find much about the Ame-no-Habaya arrows at all, although it is apparently the namesake of a jutsu used by the character Kinshiki in the Naruto series. It also shows up in the MOBA Onmyoji Arena.
I cannot say where the Wikia draws its conclusion that the Fujin Yumi invokes the Ame-no-Makakoyumi or the Ame-no-Habaya. The myth of Ame-no-Wakahiko is obscure and is not referenced by other Shinto mythology, so I have trouble agreeing with the Wikia's position, which may well be made up entirely.

Conclusion

Unlike Raijinto, the Fujin Yumi's namesake is not self-evident. Indeed, the only reason the Fujin Yumi might be so named is just to reference Raijin's brother. The Fujin Yumi, in its various depictions, does not really invoke wind as a element in the same way that Raijinto obviously invokes lightning.
While the Wikia might be inaccurate about the references to the Ame-no-Makakoyumi and Ame-no-Habaya, it is interesting that another name for the Ame-no-Makakoyumi is Ame-no-Hajiyumi. Players of Dragalia Lost (RIP) may remember that was a bow in that game, too. However, the Ame-no-Hajiyumi was associated with the element of water rather than wind. Put simply, Raijinto was obviously named after thunder god Raijin, so the Fujin Yumi was named after his wind god brother Fūjin but no effort was made to associate the bow itself with wind.
Curiously, Fūjin's bag of wind seems to be more common than expected. The ancient Greek deity Boreas was the god of the northern wind, who may have been accepted among the Bactrians as the wind god Oado, who may have then been accepted by the Chinese as the wind god Feng Bo, and then as the Japanese Fūjin. Their commonality is that they all are depicted with some kind of billowing bag of wind in their iconography. Notably, though, Boreas was also said to be himself kept in a bag, along with his brother winds, by the god Aeolus. This is referenced most famously in The Odyssey, when Odysseus lands on Aeolus's island and pleads for help getting home. Aeolus corrals the North, South, and East winds (Boreas, Notus, and Eurus, respectively) into a bag and lets only the gentle West wind, Zephyrus, blow to allow Odysseus and his crew to sail safely home. Aeolus instructs Odysseus not to open the bag or the other three winds will come out and blow him off-course. Although Odysseus ties up the bag tightly to keep the three winds sealed in, his crew suspects that there is gold in the bag, so they open it while Odysseus is sleeping and let the three winds loose. This naturally blows them off-course and they land back on Aeolus's island. This time, Aeolus tells them they are on their own getting back home. Bags of wind are apparently fairly common in mythology across the ancient world.
Legendary Hinoka's outfit is modeled on that of her mother, Mikoto. Since Mikoto appears as an enemy in Revelation and can wield a bow, there may be some implied connection between her and the Fujin Yumi. Again, the Wikia references a tweet by the Twitter account for Fire Emblem 0 that Mikoto once used the Fujin Yumi, though I could not track down this tweet. Either way, Legendary Hinoka reminds us that Hoshido and Nohr have common ground: both cultures have contempt for royal women because all of Corrin's sisters lack legendary weapons and thus lack plot relevance.

Hello, and welcome to the History of Russia. Last week, we finished our discussion of Jarl Rurik's settlement of the Novgorod region and establishment of the region. This week, we will discuss the period of Rurik's rule, starting in around 867 and ending with his death.

Probably the best place to start is with Rurik's first round of conquests, as this will put into context much of the administrative goals he achieved during the interbellum before his second round of conquests. At about the same time that his brother-in-law Bjorn af Munso would set sail for the Viking conflicts in England, Rurik sent forces to the region just north of Novgorod known as Vodi. The defending forces were outnumbered, and the region fell quickly to siege. This is where the rule of King Rurik began. Shortly after the conquest, Rurik announced that with complete control over the Novgorodian region he was proclaiming himself as King and establishing a royal court in the new capital. The coronation took place on September 24, 867. To celebrate this achievement, a runestone was erected in the newly acquired land. In addition, a grand tournament was held where Valdemar af Aalborg would win the duels and earn himself a position as Rurik's bodyguard. It was in this position that he will go on to be recognized as the court's first "Champion of the Violet," commanding forces alongside Rurik.

After the conquest of Luki, Rurik would then deploy his forces northeast, marching through the Biarmiland in short order. Rurik's forces would travel along the rivers until they reached key holdings and sieged them down, trampling the much smaller forces of their opponents, controlling the jarldoms of Chudia by 870, Biarmia by 874, and Vologda 877. It was upon finally reaching Ustyg that his up-to-now unblemished record received its first blemish. Jarl Ulljoi called his son-in-law the Karelian Tuure and raised a mercenary host, and with a numerically superior force was able to dislodge Rurik's forces who had never fully recuperated from the constant warring. According to the skald Baldr, it was during this fight that Tuure let out a massive scream and entered a berserk slaughter, where he gained the nickname 'the Butcher.' Rurik would pull his forces back to the capital and recoup over the winter of 882-883 as well as purchase the services of a Lithuanian host. While Ulljoi would take this advantage to control the chiefdoms of Povonets and Pudozh, he would then attempt to ford the Belo Ozero where his forces were broken on the other side by a rejuvenated force in the spring of 883.

The consolidation of the Biarmiland region marks the end of Rurik's first series of conquests and his interbellum transition to administration, a period which would last for about 10 years. It is worth discussing Rurik's family now, as his handling of them will help set the stage for events to come. His first three children with Ingrid were all daughters - Umila, Iliana, and Ragnhildr who were wed to Krasimir of Starodub, Tarkatzus of Arpad, and Gauronas of Prussia respectively. In the summer of 883, about 9 months after returning to Novgorod during the rout, Ingrid bore her first son Sverker. With the knowledge of the Norse tradition of confederate partition, Rurik was well aware that if he had multiple sons his lands would be divided amongst them, and thus endeavoured to ensure that each of them would be a capable ruler in their own time. Thus, the Biarmiland was split up amongst Rurik's children as they were born - Biarmi to Sverker, Chudia and Vologda to the twins Sigurthr and Bergthor in 884, and finally Ustyg to Ragnarr in 891.

To say that the interbellum meant that Rurik's armies stood idle would be an incorrect assumption. Though they did not formally go to war at this time, they would still periodically raid the nearby holdings for loot, which was translated into increased development across Novgorod - in the capital as well as in the personal holdings of Luki, Vyangi, Tikhvin, and Vodi. Much of this money was also invested into developing cultural relations with the local Russian rulers.

Rurik's grand tour starting sometime in 891 and ending in 893 heralded the culmination of his adminstrative efforts, but also brought great personal tragedy. He set out first for Pallteskja, administered by his son Helgi, but learned shortly upon departing of a wave of consumption that swept through Vologda and would kill Sigurthr. On route to the court of High Chieftan Askell, his wife Ingrid was injured in a fire and would succumb to her wounds within the week in the fall of 892. Shortly after returning, in the winter of 894 the young Bergthor was found dead on a hunting trip, killed multiple times by archers. It would not be an overreach to make the assumption that this rash of death affected Rurik, as it was in 896 that he would commit himself to one last series of wars. At the age of 66, and still commanding troops into battle, it is not unlikely that Rurik envisioned himself dying with a sword in his hand.

In the same manner as before, Rurik's forces were able to blitz through much of the region of Vladimir in 897, capturing Suzdal and the holding which one day will become Moscow, the capital of Russia. Taking advantage of Ruslan's weakened state to the south, envoys were sent to request submission. The answer was no, and within the year Ruslan's answer had been changed to a yes. After this, Rurik set his eyes on the lands west of Minsk, to Pinsk and Kyiv. His second, and final, blot on his military record would come in a similar manner as the first - Pinsk, calling upon its allegiance with Chornobyl and Varmaland, was able to outmaneuver and crush Rurik in the field. Rurik himself was captured, and forced to end his war as ransom.

Rurik never would recover from his short prison sentence. A few days later, he would retire to his bedchamber from where he did not emerge. He was 69 years old, and had ruled Novgorod for 32 years. Next week, we will follow his heirs as they enter the octagon in what is now known as the Novgorodian Wars of Succession. Only one, his youngest living son Ragnarr, will survive the next 5 years.

I run a decently large (30-40 people) trip for a Maryland-based ski club to Killington for a long weekend in January every year -- this season was 12th trip. Prices at Killington have exploded way past the rate of general inflation since the start of the pandemic (2020 trip price for lodging + lifts: $435pp; 2023 trip price: $635pp) and it's hurting attendance such that I have to start seriously considering alternative resorts for the 2024 season. Coming from Maryland some of the obvious options further north like Jay, Stowe, or Sugarbush are no-go due to the drive time -- Killington is right on the limit of what folks are willing to do for a 3-day weekend trip. Mt. Snow is also off the table as our club just relocated an annual midweek trip we'd been doing there for 30+ years to Smuggs after a series of bad experiences with the local Vail group sales and our go-to mom-and-pop lodging being bought out. There's Okemo I guess but my stance is that you might as well go to K at that point if you're driving from that far (we also have a lot of people in the membership base that are Ikon rather than Epic people).
Given the above, I'm getting quotes for K for next year but also getting proposals from Holiday Valley and Stratton (I looked into Gore as well but size of group makes it not tenable due to limitations of lodging in area). HV is obviously barely there in terms of terrain compared to K, but this trip also tends to attract a lot of newbies and casuals who aren't ripping the mountain open-to-close anyway, the town/village set up is good, it's 2+ hours closer, and our quoted price point is ~33% lower than K. Stratton is somewhere in between the two and pending final quotes is probably ~10% cheaper and is 45 minutes closer than K. I've never been to either resort personally so am limited in judgment to Internet research and would be interested in what others have to say.

I'm 25 years old and an INFJ-T. I live in Nashville, Tennessee, USA (AKA Music City) and I'm on Central Standard Time. I'm a Black woman and I stand 5 feet, 7 inches tall. My eyes are brown and I wear glasses. I don't have any tattoos or piercings at the moment.
One thing I want to mention is that I'm plus size, AKA a bigger girl. I'm undergoing a vertical sleeve gastrectomy in two months to lose the excess weight I have in a sustainable and permanent way. As far as personality goes, I'd describe myself as empathetic and sweet. I like to help others as much as I can. In person, I tend to be rather shy at first. I've been writing since I was six years old, but I started taking it seriously around 13 years old. All in all, it's been 19 years. As of right now, I primarily write Fanfiction but in the past, I've written short stories, poetry and I even tried to learn how to write screenplays at one point.
I wrote my first full-length book in 2018/2019. I started the sequel in early 2020, but I'm still working on it. I lost a LOT of inspiration during the pandemic but I'm finally writing for it again.

Music has gotten me through a lot over the years. Yeah, yeah, I know everyone says that. But it truly has. It's shaped my life and introduced me to a lot of things and people that I probably never would've done or met otherwise.
There's no point in saying I like xyz genre because I've listened to pretty much everything. The only ones I truly hate are country and gangster rap. If you want specifics, though... I've been a HUGE twenty one pilots fan for 9 years. (I have more merch, stickers and other random shit than I care to admit to lmao) I also love other artists like Amber Run, Purity Ring, Phantogram, Daughter, Lorde, OneRepublic... plus tons more.
I've always had this dumb idea of a guy and I confessing to each other through playlists with songs that make us think fondly about each other...
God, I'm single.

I've been into photography for 10 years and I've had my DSLR for eight years. (It's definitely the camera version of 'Ol Reliable) I enjoy nature and portrait photography. I'd love to show you some of my work and get your thoughts on it.

TV genres I like: Animation (like Spongebob), comedy, drama, documentaries (disaster and crime ones are my favorites), true crime (like Forensic Files), old sitcoms (like Sanford and Son) and cooking and baking competitions/reality TV (like Kitchen Nightmares US and UK, Hell's Kitchen, Master Chef, The Great British Baking Show, etc)
Movie genres I like: Animation, drama, comedy, action, psychological thrillers and science fiction. I thoroughly loved The Greatest Showman so one could say I like musicals but it's the only one I've seen so not sure if that really counts. Comic book movies are pretty alright too, but I really haven't seen anything past the first Avengers movie lmaooooo.
I say this as unpretentiously as possible, but I haven't seen most popular TV shows or movies that your average person likes. I think the last "popular" thing I watched was that Jeffrey Dahmer series on Netflix. (mainly out of morbid curiosity because everyone was freaking out about it... and because I think Evan Peters is a cutie) I only saw a few episodes and then forgot to watch the rest of it, but it wasn't as horrific as everyone was saying. Maybe I've watched too much Forensic Files and I'm desensitized lmao.

Video game genres I like: Adventure, action-adventure, RPGs & JRPGs, Strategy... basically anything that is relatively fun and not horror related.
Some of my all-time favorites: Kingdom Hearts II, Ratchet and Clank, Journey, Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X.
As far as computer games, the only thing I play on a regular basis is The Sims 2 and The Sims 4. As a kid, I loved simulator and time-management games; some old favorites are the RCT series, Simcity: Rush Hour, the first four Diner Dash games, the Delicious series and Burger Shop 2 (which I still have on my computer actually lmao)

I really love dogs and cats. I have three cats and they're little demons but I love them to death. I also love small animals like ferrets, bunnies and snakes!
My main love languages are words of affirmation, quality time and gift giving/receiving. To be honest, though, there's elements of each language that I enjoy or relate to in one way or another.

With that being said, it's important that you have time for me. I'm not expecting us to talk 24/7 but if you're always too busy to talk to me, this won't work. At some point, I'd like for us to also talk on the phone as our schedules permit, of course.

● WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR ●
It's important to me that you're an active listener; what I mean is that you'll make an effort to listen to what I have to say and respond to it accordingly. If I tell you my thoughts on a matter or ask you a question or give you a compliment etc etc, please respond to it. It makes me feel so sad and small if I feel like my thoughts or opinions are not important/relevant.
I can tell pretty quickly if someone is genuinely interested in me or not. Like I said before, I notice everything lol.
I mentioned earlier how one of my love languages is words of affirmation. One of the ways I enjoy that is through compliments. I'm not looking for you to worship the ground I walk on, but being told "You look beautiful" or "When you do xyz, that makes me really happy" makes me feel SO seen and appreciated.
It's incredibly frustrating to send a picture of myself and get a lukewarm response in return. :(
Affection is also super important to me. Holding hands, hugging, kissing, cuddling, touching... all the cute couple shit. I want you to touch me, not in a pervy way, but in an affectionate way. I want to stroke your hair while I hold you close... little things like that make me incredibly happy.
Keep in mind, everything I want from you, I'll give to you in return. I'll always listen and acknowledge you, give you compliments, shower you in affection, plus whatever else makes you feel wanted and appreciated as a person and in a relationship.

I always want you to have a choice and be able to voice your opinion. I will never degrade or boss you around in general, but especially when it comes to your personal choices. This subreddit allowed me to plan our wedding. I am so grateful and found these breakdowns especially useful, and now a cathartic experience for me and hopefully a way to give back!

First step that helped us the most was deciding as a team early on what we wanted our wedding to bring to us and our future.
We were inspired early on by This Post and the comments.
We have both been through a lot of life and have a lot of gratitude for the people that have gotten us to this point and wanted to make space to celebrate with all of them in a big way. This inspired the rest of our wedding planning, committing us to a big guest list, requiring a big venue. We invited 304 people (154 households), 179 RSVP’d yes, and had ~10 no-show. Our family and friends live all over the country and some abroad, so we decided to pick a location close to us, but that had multiple houses on site to host our family/bridal party for the weekend (thurs-sunday; saturday wedding) so that we could have more time with those people closest to us.
Total: $69,407 (MCOL area)
Venue: $28,250 “Weekend Package”

• Indoor and outdoor space for ceremony/reception
• Lodging for ~60 people w/Lake access
• Rehearsal dinner space (same as wedding reception)
• Weekend coordinators
• Tables/chairs/arbor
• Additional costs - $1500: rehearsal dinner speakers/mic, bars, extra chairs/tables, late checkout, event insurance

Additional Lodging: $3965

• 2 additional houses near venue (lodging for 15 people)
• Because we were about 30min from the nearest city, we decided it was important to us to be able to have close family nearby, and rented out these houses as a gift for close family and friends. We debated a few different ways to have people rent the rooms back from us, but in the end felt like covering lodging cost was the better option.

Paper: $845

• Postcard STD ($60), Invites w/vellum paper + details/rsvp insert + personalized sticker ($298), Thank you cards ($25), Seating Chart ($20 - GotPrint, 24”x30” foam board, used coupon), Table Numbers ($35 - printed on shutterfly sale 5x7), Programs w/menu ($200), Postage ($207 - estimating on thank you cards, saved money with postcard stamps).
• I designed everything on Canva (free), and printed almost everything above through canva as well with a few exceptions. They were excellent. I had fun making my own wedding “suite” that suited our personalities and could be used from the invites to the table numbers.
• Program was a booklet that was made using x2 8x11 sheets printed as “letterhead” folded to have a welcome page, ceremony structure, wedding party, community vow, wedding day timeline, our love story timeline, the menu, and a thank you back page with a map I designed using SnazzyMaps with pins from every state/country people traveled from
• We did online RSVP through WithJoy and it was great. We also used GoogleForms early in the planning process to collect addresses that autopopulated into an excel spreadsheet.

Decor: $992

• Linens** ($360 - bought, (40 round, 10 rectangle) split cost as sharing with a friend. The cost to rent and have the linens transported to the venue would’ve been $2000. This was one of the toughest parts of the DIY wedding - happy to post more info if other people are also trying to do this.)
• Sign holders ($80 - 5x7 off amazon for 48 total), bud vases ($22 - most vases were borrowed from friends/family), Guest “book” ($180- we bought 4 nice photo frames with mattes and took the mattes out and had people sign them - came out beautifully), Bathroom baskets ($189), Glowsticks/Foam party sticks ($63), Sparklers ($97 - last minute add and I’m glad we did. It was special to have a “closing ceremony” of sorts - even though we all went back to the house at the venue for an after party)
• Photo backdrop and neon “good vibes only” sign - gifted

Florals: $2322

• Flower Moxie “Wildflower Package” with additional add ins ($2260) - these flowers were amazing. (photo of my bouquet in a vase - I’d had the flowers for 1 week!) We got buckets from Trader Joes for free. We had pruning shears and gloves on hand. We have a family member that has done florals for a few weddings and works at a plant shop. She gave us the amazing gift of doing our bouquets and bringing in potted flowers and ferns as well. She also designed a faux flower arbor accent for us based on our flowers. This work was incredible. Happy to answer more DIY flower questions.
• Grandparent charms ($102): both sets of my grandparents passed away. I had these designed from etsy with 3 charms including their wedding photo, kiss photo, and cake cutting photo. Absolutely worth it. Planning to re-purpose as a christmas tree ornament heirloom.

Food: $8133

• Wedding catered for 174 people, Chickfila for wedding day lunch (~70 people), PapaJohn’s Thursday night of wedding weekend
• Catering was buffet and “Heavy Hors d'oeuvres” style with a mac n’cheese bar and we heard only good things from everyone
• Included cake cutting service, coffee/tea/watelemonade, and sodas/mixers/ice for the bar
• Bride mom paid for costco snacks/sandwiches for the weekend
• Groom family paid for catered rehearsal dinner
• Bride mom mom paid for wedding cake ($75) also from costco which was amazing - we did 3 sheet cakes and 1 round cake for cutting. We had 1 entire sheet cake leftover.

Alcohol: $3752

• BeeWine for wedding and rehearsal dinner ($1557); wedding day bartenders x3 for 5.5hrs ($1950), personalized koozies ($245)
• Groom’s family had a contact and bought all the liquor for the rehearsal dinnewedding
• Our venue allowed BYOB, and some of this cost includes extra alcohol for the wedding weekend, though we also had friends BYOB
• Beer from Sam’s Club and Total Wine ($727) - mix of Miller, Coors, Ultra, Founder’s IPA, Stella (this is the only alcohol that ran out)
• Wine from Trader Joes ($830)- you can talk with someone about ordering cases in advance and it took about 5 days to arrive. We did not do a champagne toast, but I got 10 bottles of trader joe’s prosecco to have at the bridal party house for the weekend. We got 2 cases of red, 6 cases of white, 2 cases of rose and had between 6-12 bottles of each type of wine leftover. I only bought wine that we like, so plan to drink it in the coming months and did not ask about their return policy.

DJ: $1925

• Included ceremony speakers/2 mics, had a fun video display that rotated out photos of people dancing, and including lighting

Photography/Videography: $9839

• Photo ($4839) 10 hours day of wedding and an engagement session.
• Video ($5000) 9 hours day of and includes a short video plus we paid extra to have all the raw footage
• These were some of our biggest hype people! It was definitely a price point early in the planning process where we had sticker shock, but we are very happy with the decisions we made here. These memories are priceless and the day really does fly by. They made us feel so at ease and so comfortable just being ourselves and coordinating chaotic big families and making the day all about us being in love and celebrating our love.

Clothing: $3930

• Groom suit ($462 - mens warehouse custom, “lifetime” alterations - was a mess. Dropped it off 6 weeks before the wedding, they didn’t call and tell us it was ready, called them the week before the wedding and they said it was ready, the pants were not even hemmed and incorrect alterations had been done. We bought a “back-up” sale suit from J Crew that night for ~$300 and that’s what my husband ended up wearing- no alterations but fit and looked better than the men’s warehouse. Hopefully we get other uses out of both suits).
• Groom shoes, tie, belt, suit shirt ($180)
• Bride Dress ($2299- Stella York- included steaming, storage, preservation), alterations ($410- 7 point bustle, hemmed, shoulders shortened, felt added to shoulder straps, button loops added - was just a zipper, back taken in slightly).
• Bride Shoes ($99 - custom converse, wore several times again already!), Bra ($50- boomba, worked great!), accessories ($130), Veil $20 on amazon and perfect.
• Last minute also added in a new rehearsal dinner dress and short party dress that can be worn for other occasions. I loved my wedding dress and really wanted to wear it all night but about 30min into dancing I wasn’t able to party as much as I wanted to and was glad I had the party dress to swap into!

Other: $3349

• Wedding bands from Brilliant Earth: Groom ($1285- platinum), Bride ($1069- white gold)
• HMUA $125 for haimakeup/lashes- (was also $125 for the trial - glad I did it!)- there was also a travel fee as we had it done at the venue that I paid.
• Marriage License $85, Notary $60
• Officiant $300
• Groomsman Gift ($300)
• Bridesmaid Gift ($0- family friend quilted large tote bags for everyone)
• Bridesmaid/Groomsmen Attire ($0 for us - we had large bridal parties so did not cover this cost. Bridesmaid’s ordered their preference of Azazie dress - decided on bermuda blue to contrast the wildflowers- and groomsmen rented from Men’s Warehouse).

Tips: $770

• We tipped our day of coordinator $100, DJ $100 (owns the business, but did great!), HMUA 20% ($300 - I paid the entire tip cost for my bridal party but they paid for the HMU cost).
• Photo/Video own their businesses so did not tip- (leaving reviews!)
• Asked catering about tipping and they said they pay all staff a fair wage and it is not expected and gave a range of what people sometimes do tip. We ended up tipping the 9 staff/bartenders $30 each.

Our wedding was amazing for us. It felt like an event that truly encapsulated who we are as individuals and as a couple, and that chance to celebrate with so many people we love was priceless. It felt like all the spreadsheets we’d worked on for the last 2 years turned into reality. This is the main master spreadsheet I used:

The “Checklist” really doesn’t start until I realized how easy it is to get lost in needing to capture so many personal little details that would keep me up at night feeling like they were slipping through the cracks.
