2023.05.23 22:31 Geodyssey Help Finding A Park in/near Culver City with a blue Hippo?
This morning our nanny took our son to an event at Ivy Station in Culver City. She then used her phone to search for nearby parks. She said she drove about 5 minutes, and wound up at a park with a blue Hippopotomous on the playground.
Anyhow, she left the diaper bag at the park, but doesn't remember which park. We're trying to figure out which park so we can go back and look for the diaper bag.
Does anyone know of a park in the Culver City area (she remembers driving on National and Venice) that has a blue hippo?
I already looked at her maps app and it doesn't show anything in the history. I also looked at the photos she took and they don't appear to have been geotagged.
Thanks in advance!

2023.05.11 21:49 ToiletFullOfBroccoli Wireless CarPlay crashes at one specific location [Culver City, CA]
Has anyone experienced their wireless CarPlay completely crash when driving by a specific location, disconnecting audio/display and then reconnecting a minute later?
There is one block where this consistently happens for me in Culver City, CA. Ironically, it is right next to an Apple corporate office where Apple Music and Beats are located (The approx coordinates are 34.021047, -118.379329, on Jefferson Blvd near the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook). I almost think there is a strong radio frequency being broadcast nearby that is interfering with wifi or bluetooth or both.
I'm usually running Google Maps and Overcast or YouTube Music at the time. The same crash doesn't happen in my other car that has wired CarPlay, so I don't suspect this is an issue with Maps/GPS causing the system to crash at those coordinates.

2023.04.17 01:10 WoahHeyAJ Struggling with a location
I’d like area recommendations, please. I’m moving in early fall so I’ve got some time but I can’t figure out exactly where I want to be. My brother lives in Culver City - good option, but I’d like to consider other nearby areas as well. Here are some items that might help your recommendations: (1) I don’t want to bring my car, (2) I’d like to be able to walk to the beach max - 30ish minutes walk? I’m not sure what’s realistic but I’m flexible on this one (3) my budget is around $3k and (4) I have a small dog (20lbs) so a park somewhere nearby would a bonus. Based on a broad WestsideRentals.com search, it seems like I can get an OK 1b/1b or a nice but small studio for this budget - maybe better if I let go of the beach request. Also I’m a woman and I will be living alone if that factors into your recommendation. Thank you!
Edit: more info - I WFH, I’m active/outdoorsy, love yoga, I mostly cook because of some moderate health issues, moving from north Atlanta, GA. Thanks!

2023.04.13 19:31 ifflejink Looking for walkable areas to scout on a visit
So, my girlfriend floated the idea of an LA move from Denver and she wants to do a trip at some point to win me over on it, which would be a good opportunity to check out some areas and neighborhoods that might work for us. Our budget would probably be around $3k a month with enough space for two people, a cat and a small dog. The commute would obviously play a big factor, but we're really in the early stages of planning everything.
What we'd be looking for:
- Walkability for daily activities. I'd also say bike-friendliness here, but it seems like there aren't too many areas that fit that bill outside of Santa Monica
- We're queer women in our 30's, so having other queer folks around and some younger people would be good
- Artists and musicians nearby, since I'm a musician myself and I'd be looking to join a band
- Access to a decent beach within a half-hour drive would be a big plus, although I know that tends to rule out places that aren't crazy expensive. Access to a decently large park could work, too.
Which neighborhoods would you all say would fit that bill? It seems like Long Beach would be good (pollution and out there location aside), but I've also heard Culver City/Palms mentioned as a pretty walkable area, along with Highland Park.
Thank you!

2023.03.28 18:05 Desdraftlit 8 vehicles. 8 stories.
I'll try to keep these short.
In my life I've bought 8 vehicles. Four of which have been brand new. (less than 500 miles) With each and every vehicle I've bought, something has happened to them within less than 24 hours of owning them.
The first vehicle I bought was a 1998 Nissan Sentra (used) with a manual stick shift. Before you comment - I was raised on manual vehicles my whole young adulthood, I knew how to drive them. I was so excited to show my uncle that I decided to make the two hour drive to his house to show him. Half way there the transmission gave out. I was stranded for a few hours before a tow truck came.
Second vehicle was a 2000 Daewoo Lanos. I didn't want it necessarily, but I bought it because my girlfriend at the time had a brother who needed to sell it fast. Anyways, driving it home I decided to stop and get some Culvers for dinner. Was going 20 in a 30 zone because I knew how people leaving the starbucks nearby never look both ways before pulling out. Lo and behold this young dude pulls out from starbucks without looking. I slammed down on my breaks but was too late. I hit his front passenger wheel and folded it inward like paper mache. His car was undrivable now.Turns out he had "barrowed" his dads brand new 2004 Lexus without asking. The cops ended up calling the dad and he drove to us in less than 5 minutes. Got out of his wife/girlfriend's SUV and without a moments hesitation started beating the hell out of his son. The cop literally turned a blind eye and turned towards me to tell me how to proceed with the insurance claim.
Third vehicle was a 2001 Saturn SL1. It was my best friends car he drove for a few years and I had alot of great memories in that car. Now it was mine and I was excited. Drove to my mom's house to show her. While it was parked in front of her garage and we were inside talking, someone decided to smash a whole watermelon on the trunk of the car. Left a big old dent and alot of guts with sticky residue. I was pissed, washed it off and went home. It started raining that night and woke up the next morning to my car alarm going off. I run out and theres HUGE wolverine like scratches all over the hood, trunk, windshield with muddy footprints. I tracked down a kid nearby and asked if he seen anything. He did. He watched three brothers using my car as a playground for some stunt they had seen on the internet. I asked him to show me where they lived and the mom was furious. She ended up paying me $3,000 and filing insurance claims. She was so nice about it to me, but I know those kids were grounded for a year or more. They were not allowed on the internet for along time.
My fourth vehicle was a 2008 Ford Windstar. First day my now ex wife and I had the van we were driving to her grandmothers house to visit with our kids. We were on a clover roundabout to get on another highway - and the sliding door hindge snapped and the door fell off. The teather held on and dragged the door next to us before i came to a complete stop.
Fifth vehicle was a brand new 2013 VW Passat. I remember telling the car salesman AND the owner who was sitting across the desk from us about my terrible luck with cars and the first 24 hours I've ever owned them. They both laughed and told me that would never happen with a new vehicle because bla bla bla inspections bla bla bla. Great! Iwas excited. The next morning about 12 hours later I was driving to work and about half way there, a piston blew, the engine shuttered and there was a huge mess under the hood. The vehicle was dead in the water. Called the dealership I bought it from. My wife and I argued with them. They ended up taking the vehicle and giving us a 2005 Cadillac DeVille plus paying off the full loan for the VW Passat. So basically I just had one bad day and a free Cadillac.
Sixth vehicle was a brand spankin new 2017 Hyundai Sonata. Drove it home and played some video games. Next day I came out and it was gone. My HOA decided that a new vehicle in my driveway couldn't possibly be mine, and instead of contacting me - they decided to tow it. I charged the secretary treasurer for the discrepancy and breaking the HOA terms that a vehicle without tags must be stationary for 72 hours before getting towed. When I got it back there was a flat tire and a big old nail sticking out of the side of it. Screw HOAs I'll never buy another house with them again. (This is one of many bad HOA stories I have for a different thread sometime)
Seventh vehicle - I decided to trade in my 2017 Sonata for a 2019 Hyundai Sante Fe. I needed the extra space for alot of personal and work projects. After the purchase I transferred all my stuff from the Sonata to the Sante Fe so dealership could take the car. After putting my fishing gear in the trunk I was itching to go fishing. Drove out to my favorite lake, and walked down to the fishing dock. Moments later I heard metal clang followed by screeching. I turned around to see a truck with a boat hitched pulling away quickly from behind my SUV. I dropped my gear and raced over. Turned out the dude backed his boat (with the motor in the downward position) into my vehicle. The blades tore up the back of my vehicle like sliced deli meat. Allstate claimed it would only be $600 to fix... Turned out to be $6000. They missed a zero and I ended up just saying fuck it and never got it repaired because they would only pay up to $600.
Eighth and final vehicle... Just traded in my Sante Fe on Tuesday for a brand new Hyundai Santa Cruz truck. Drove off the lot at 7 p.m.. The next day I was leaving work at 12:05 in the afternoon and getting ready to turn onto the highway from the on-ramp. The car in front of me was trying to get up to speed on the highway and spun his tires. The spin kicked up a decend sized piece of asphalt from the road and shattered the windshield to my new truck. Just like the rest of my vehicles - I hadn't even had the darn thing for 24 hours....
Folks. Don't EVER tell me the odds. I'm a walking statistic.

2023.01.13 00:02 Mathgoat123 What’s best place in West LA for a 1-bedroom apartment under $2,000?
I’m a 22M looking for the best place in West LA for a 1-bedroom apartment under $2,000. Ideally close to the beach, non-touristy, somewhat quiet with good proximity to freeways would be great. I also work in Century City and am in-person twice a week (so a nearby commute is favorable).
So far I’m thinking Mar Vista and Culver City, but want to make sure I’m not missing out on any viable options. It’s also hard to find a 1 bedroom apartment for $2000 in these areas, although maybe I’m not searching optimally (mostly using hotpads). What are your thoughts?
Thank you!

2022.12.20 19:52 lotusdisco Areas for building community/making nearby friends for 30s
36/F looking to make a move from NYC to LA soon (I'm bicoastal ATM and about to do 4 months in LA for the winter and to further assess neighborhoods, etc.). What I've realized in NYC is that proximity has played a huge role in who and/or how easily you can find community or create a tighter knit group of friends. While I know that LA has a very different setup, I want to be more intentional about choosing a neighborhood where I can meet folks who could potentially become friends and to develop deeper connections. I know its not impossible to create close bonds with someone who lives further away, but realistically, on a more regular basis, people (and myself) are more likely to hang out with a friend who is really close, b/c its just easier to pop over, grab a meal, etc.
What neighborhoods would you recommend for people in their 30s (and single, if that matters)? I find that I have the deepest connection with folks who are creative and/or into holistic healing. I've been drawn to northeast LA (I spent last winter in Los Feliz) and will spend a couple months in Silver Lake; I'm debating spending the two months after that in Culver City or somewhere around there. Is downtown LA like the arts district a terrible idea? Just thinking sometimes those larger apt or loft buildings makes it easier to naturally meet people.
I'm planning to join meetup groups, etc of course, but I do want to try to find a neighborhood too, where even though I might live alone, I could be around likeminded people nearby. (And this is all for the longer term; I know it takes time to make friends and community but wondering where I can 'test' out in these next 4-5 months to see if I just like a neighborhood first). Thank you!
