Frijolito's on Astoria Blvd makes some of, if not the, best mexican food in this part of Astoria; it has excellent reviews all around. Unfortunately it took me 2 years of living down the block from the place to find that out because every time I ever walk by it is totally empty, has a "grade pending" or "C" health grade, and there is another (very good) mexican restaurant 2 doors down.
I frankly don't understand how they have remained open given the lack of business I've seen ever since I moved here; it must all be delivery. I really want to support them, but the health grade issues going on for 2+ years now is just too much for me to overlook. And from what I've read of the details, they are not minor (vermin), but they are fixable!

MB recently gave me clearance and a credit card to take NK to lunch when we're out and about because she wants them to learn how to behave in a restaurant (and I suspect, is enjoying her quiet time alone at home!) and it's been going so well! NK is slowly learning patience, how to order what they want off a menu, table manners, etc etc.
I was talking to my partner about how I know service workers have such a hard time and so I always make nice conversation, tip well, keep NK to an appropriate volume for the place, and clean up after ourselves. My partner (former service industry) said almost no one with kids does that, and I was shocked!
To me, it's a part of the etiquette of eating out, and also, along with tipping and being kind in general, helps to ensure that the staff at places we visit regularly are kind and understanding when NK is having a bad day or we need an emergency bathroom visit. I want NK to know that we clean up after ourselves and to have that skill.
I always bus our table if it's a bus your own place, wipe up spills, wipe out the high chair or booster, and do a quick crumb sweep with a napkin under the table. I taught preschool for years and I can tell you with certainty that nobody wants to get on their hands and knees and clean up a dissected muffin. I brought NK, I let them do that, it's my responsibility.
Now, I know some people may have multiple and/or NKs with atypical needs and simply cannot do this, but IMO, if you can take five minutes to tidy behind you it's the polite thing to do and a great modeling/life skills opportunity for NK.

ā¢ Impcantations field spell was interesting since with 3x of some monsters you could do 6+6 or 4+4 and get the exact level for dogmatika on the field + use the search effect. But the nouvelles field spell seems way better with its drawing and shuffling effect, and I tried to keep the deck slim.
ā¢ I saw some good decklist that chose to run nouvelles rituals at 3-1-3-2-1 like it was a soccer scheme. And it worked. But even if the deck can in theory recycle and search, I went for a standard 2x except glasya. He can shuffle 3, but I prefer to go Poeltis (draw 1) -> Balameuniere. The effect between lv4 and lv3 is the same. In case I need Baelgrill fast I use Glasya though.
ā¢ I feel like 4 recipe is the max I would go. Maybe change quantities based on what opponent is trying (meat if too many stuff in defense position like Bagooska, fish for a more combo approach)
ā¢ I feel like pre-preparation of rites is not a big searcher, only fish/meat and the mentioned monster, hence the 1x.
ā¢ I don't get the use of Cook Recipe but it is an extra body and extra ritual spell so I'll keep a spot for it (place to be taken by side deck cards)
ā¢ Quick spells like forbidden dress may work in more situations (to target the nouvelles and trigger their effects) rather than the Imp field spell
Big drawbacks: I don't know which handtraps to use, if the deck starts it goes on, but there are not many options, I need some opponent interaction. The deck can play around TCBOO a bit, can play under gozen. Ash/droll and skill drain at the wrong moment are a ruin.
Third option: smaller Nouvelelles scale + LIGHT ritual support (dogmatika/cyber angel/drytron/sprite's blessing). Still cooking on that because LIGHT+DARK can open stuff, but don't count on me too much.

I ordered lunch today for pick up to save on fees and a tip and my total was $7. When I got to the restaurant, the item on their menu was actually $4.30 and with tax would have been under $5. Even when Iām picking up my own order Iām still paying over 20% in fees.
This on top of them not paying their Dashers enough, and taking advantage of inflation and fees in general has me saying enough is enough.

My girlfriendās meltdowns have made it hard to bring her to social situations, especially family gatherings
This weekend, I (28m) went to my momās (the big 6 oh!, f) birthday dinner, with my girlfriend (26f). For the record, my girlfriend has autism, food sensitivities to a lot of things, and is vegan.
While it was a great meal, and we were able to find her something, it was tough because she began crying as soon as she couldnāt find certain items on the menu. I tried to cheer her up.
When we ordered chips and guacamole, since itās a Mexican restaurant, they brought the guac out with cheese on top. The server was fast, set down the guac then head out, but rather than just simply say āI didnāt realize there was cheese on it, could I get one without cheese?ā She had a meltdown again, began crying, and made things very uncomfortable for my family. And while I do feel really sorry for my girlfriend, and how meltdowns can be detrimental, I also feel sorry for my mom, since this has happened multiple times at family gatherings.
By the end of the night, she had a potato taco with guac, beans and rice, and ended up eating too many chips and had to take her food home.
My mom and my gf had a tough talk afterwards, where neither of them were calm, and I tried to keep the peace, but it was too hard for my girlfriend to sit down and explain how the situation feels. Iām torn between trying not to be ableist and being accommodating of the most amazing girl Iāve ever met, and on the other hand trying to find out if I want to continue this relationship if I canāt go to a restaurant (even if it has vegan options) without feeling like I need to defuse a difficult situation.
My mom outright told me that she wouldnāt feel comfortable holding a party at her home, if she would have a meltdown.

Info: I have a sensory food aversion, especially about texture, and misophonia. My family lives with a fend-for-yourself attitude and my parents rarely cook for us. I have been cooking for myself since I was about 12. We all eat at different times and therefore alone in our rooms.
I turned 16 almost 4 weeks ago, it's not a big deal in my country, but it's a family tradition to go on a vacation with one of the parents after someone turned 16. That was one of my gifts. One of my bday-wishes was my favourite dinner, which my mom promised to cook. The day of my birthday, I came home from school and my mom told me we would be going to a restaurant instead and that I need to get ready. On the ride over I looked up the menu (ramen and other soups) and there was nothing for me to eat. After everyone arrived my aunt said she was surprised that I picked this type of restaurant and I replied that I didn't, that I wanted to eat dinner at home. I'm not good at confrontations, so I didn't say that rudely or loud, just as a matter of fact. But my other family members were angry on my behalf, and dinner was super tense and quickly over. I was the only one who didn't/couldn't eat anything and even though the restaurant was loud, I was very uncomfortable with the eating noises.
When we got home my mom tore me a new one for causing a scene infront of everyone and embarassing my parents. My mom said that my vacation-present (that I already received) was cancelled as a punishment. It wasn't even a fight, it was just my mom yelling at me and me standing there like a stupid idiot, but I didn't truly believed her about the cancelled vacation. Things went kind of back to normal, I did carefully ask about the vacation after a few days and never got a clear answer, but since the vacation would have started yesterday and we didn't go, my mom obviously went through with the cancellation.
I asked my family members and friends if I really misinterpreted the situation that badly: my siblings don't care, my dad said he "wants to stay out of it", my mother refuses to talk about it, but everyone else is angry on my behalf and no one understands how and why things escalated that much. Things have been a bit bad between my parents (mostly mom) and the rest of the family. I wasn't part of any of those conversations, and my parents won't talk to me about any of it.
I'm honestly not sure what to think, I'm second guessing myself and what I said and how I acted and I'm coming up empty. I was dissappointed and sulked at the bday-dinner, but I barely spoke (and not loudly or angry).
