I’m in the beginning of my senior year studying a B.S in economics. Owing to various mistakes in my educational journey (being undisciplined, unable to manage school and work, focusing on two failed relationships) I will mostly likely be graduating with 15k-22k dollars of student loan debt.
The issue is that I’m not confident that I will be able to make a living directly out of college given that my degree in Economics is much more theoretical than I anticipated.
I’ve researched and found that many people who get degrees in economics pursue a Masters in accounting, economics, statistics or data science and I think I will likely follow that path to maximize career earnings.
The thing is I am terrified of adding new debt. I’ve been calling around for schools in my state with those masters programs and the average price is around 40k. This would bring my final debt amount to around 62k minus interest. This is a huge sum of money for someone as risk averse as myself and I’m not sure if it will be worth it.
The only thing saving me right now is living at home with my parents but as a man I don’t want to keep living off them into my 20s. What should I do?

My darling mother is mad at me and my partner (who lives in the home) for not being approved for food stamps. Me and my partner make too much for stamps, even with the addition of the rent we pay, we couldnt get approved again and somehow that's my fault. She keeps trying to guilt trip me and my partner into buying fast food for everyone which adds up quick. Together me and my partner are paying roughly 1,600 dollars in rent. We are also saving for our car to be fixed (transmissions are expensive) so we get maybe 400-500 dollars each a month to put towards our car and she wants to take that money to put towards food when we cant do it. Her husband (my step dad) is a manager and makes over 5,000 a month but he apparently doesn't have money for anything and what little money he does have my mom spends on my little sister, buying her toys, outfits and video games. The rent is 3,200 so we split it, she and her husband pay 1,600 and me and my partner pay 1,600. Surely he should have enough money out of over 5,000 dollars. And no, they are not doing drugs, yes I am 100% certain. Anyways, about my car, she keeps asking when I'm going to get it fixed and that I "should have the money by now" bc their car is starting to act up so she wants to us mine. I'm not sure what to do. I want to move out but that's hard without a car and when I do eventually get my car fixed we'll have to save up for the apartment plus moving costs. We have nowhere else to stay unfortunately and we dont qualify for housing. I feel so trapped by the situation.

I didn't get a prom. I graduated highschool 2020 so its obvious why I didn't and at the time I was fine with it. I had gone to my friend's junior prom when I was a sophomore and my other friend's senior prom as a junior and I had so much fun at both proms so when covid happened I wasn't bummed like other kids in my grade because to me it was just another dance. I've always been a tomboy too, wore suits to my friends proms because dresses felt weird for me and I was friends with a lot of guys. I was the only girl on my wrestling team and the only girl doing tech crew and thats where most of my friends in the same grade came from. I was never really one for dances anyways. I found them awkward and usually sat in a corner because I didn't enjoy the music and didn't care for many of the people there.
But my rationalization wasn't the truth. I had a blast at my friends junior and senior prom because I was with my friends and I danced with them even though I didn't like the music because the energy was amazing. I didn't go to my junior prom and maybe that's where some of the disappointment comes from. I come from a low income school district and a most of my friends in the same grade didn't have the money to go to junior prom. Tickets were like $60 or $70, pretty much all of us either didn't have our license or didn't have a car we could use. I had gotten my suit through piecing it together at a large discount clothing store so clothing wasn't really the issue it was just lack of resources and money to go there.
So started the friend pact. We all agreed to do get summer jobs or do side gigs to build up money over the summer so we could do senior prom. The group was about 7 or 8 of us going together and we also planned to save up money so for senior week we could go camping as a group. I picked up shifts at my job, babysat, coached youth wrestling, petsat, did some sound and light work offered through tech crew. By the end of summer I could have bought the $90 tickets for senior prom for the whole group and have enough to buy a prom dress I had fallen in love with that was a few hundred dollars which was huge to me. Everyone saved up. And then covid and there went prom and there went senior week and before I knew it I was off to a college I dropped out of after two years of trying.
Now I live in a house being rebuilt but close to my family and while I now work a job doing what I'm actually passionate about and making great strides to move in the direction I want to in my career, I sit here at age 21 typing this out with plans to go dress shopping with my little sister for her middle school dance, and my little brother making plans with his friends for his senior prom next year to be in coordinating outfits and I feel jealous. I'm so happy for them that they will get to have these memories and experiences and I get to be part of it. I'm taking her dress shopping, I will be sewing and making part of my brothers outfit. But I can't help but be upset about how I won't get those memories when I'm supposed to have them.
Now my some of my friends have moved away, one started a family, some are really busy with their schooling or jobs, and I watch as the ones close by post on their story that they're bored and who wants to hang but they don't respond to my texts. And I know I'm not entitled to their time, to hear from them but it stings seeing them post pictures hanging out together and I'm not part of it and I stopped reaching out when after two years of wishing all of them a happy birthday on their birthday I got nothing even when making posts and reminders about it when I didn't need it for them and conversations about things we should go do when we all get together stayed as conversations. I made good friends in college I'm still in regular contact with despite them all being in different states and friends in my job but I'm jealous I don't get a prom. I'm jealous that my last memory of all my friends being together was us making plans to watch the college wrestling championship matches and celebrate my birthday instead of it being us at prom. I'm happy my siblings won't have this experience.

So a couple of months or so ago, I made a post looking for info from people that had recently gone through the process of trying to get a medical with an ADHD diagnosis. One of the mods shot the post down and told me to use the search lol. So I figured I'd make this for anyone else looking for recent, more up-to-date info.
Quick Summary with time and costs-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For those that don't want to read and just want the meat and potatoes: Time from AME exam to issuance of medical- 2 months or 43 business days, which is better than the 60 business days estimation shown in MedXpress. Total cost: HIMS Neuropsych- $1500, HIMS AME- $642 (probably didn't need to spend. More on that later), 1st Class Medical Exam $199. Total- $2,341.
Here's my story------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I scheduled my discovery flight for February '23 and immediately started looking at the other requirements. That's when I noticed ADHD and ADHD meds were a no no for the FAA. After researching around on here and other places, I saw that you could get a special issuance for ADHD as long as you weren't on the meds and could prove you didn't have ADHD. I haven't taken meds in years, so I decided to try to pursue my special issuance. Not to mention, I've had other doctors doubt my ADHD diagnosis and tell me that the way the meds made me feel were a sign I probably didn't have it. I was diagnosed while struggling in college.
Instead of going to a normal AME, I elected to go to a HIMS AME instead. This is absolutely not necessary for ADHD, and I probably could have saved hundreds of dollars by not doing so. Luckily the AME I went to also studied neuropsych or something like that and was able to do a write of up his assessment of me as well. Whether that was part of helping the FAA decide or not, I will never know. I spent an initial $275 for the initial consultation in which he basically just told me he would defer me, the FAA would send me a letter, and I would have to do what they told me to to get my medical. I already knew all of that from research on the internet and here. The 2nd $385 was from him doing his write-up about me to the FAA as well as having to go back and forth with me and my HIMS Neuropsych and read our emails because of the issues we've had. So that chunk may have been necessary, especially since he included the emails between myself and the neuropsych.
After research, I elected to wait on my exam and to not wait for the FAA to send me a packet telling me what I needed to do for my special issuance. I started calling around to HIMS Neuropsychs to find one at a decent price. What I found was most of them were by the book and would not see me until I had my letter from the FAA telling them exactly what they wanted and a copy of my medical record from the FAA. I finally found a couple that were willing to do so and could get me scheduled fairly quickly. Unfortunately, none were within driving distance. So, I scheduled an appointment with one and bought an airplane ticket to go see her.
I'll try to keep this part brief as I have other posts on it, but long story short(ish), I flew to go see the HIMS Neurospsych and took my exam with her. The next day, I emailed asking about my results to see if I needed to schedule an additional appointment to do the full battery. Her first email said everything looked fine, but she would let me know definitely the next day. The next email to me said 'your scores are generally okay. I think you'll be okay, and I don't think it's necessary for you to take the full evaluation'. Little more in there, but those are the important parts. So I'm like sweet. Send it! I told her I had an appointment with my AME at the end of the month and asked if that would be sufficient time for her to finish her report and get it to my AME so we could send it all in together. She told me the date was fine and she should be finished by then. So I checked back in with her a couple of times, just to make sure everything was still on track, and she told me it was. The day before my exam with my AME, I hadn't received anything from her. I emailed her, and received no response. On the day of my exam, I emailed and then called her to see what was going on. After my exam was over with my AME, I got a text from her asked who I was. I told her who I was and that she was supposed to have my report to me on that day. She replied 'Oh. That was today?' She then emails me stating that it would be in my best interest to return and get a full evaluation. Waaaaaait... What?! So I then basically asked how she went from 'everything was fine' to 'more testing' and pointing her to the emails she previously sent. She then gave me more excuses as to why she changed her mind, and I pointed out the discrepancies between what she was saying and what she previously said. I don't think she was a fan of this.
I asked her to call my AME and explain because I wanted his opinion. He told me he thought we should have her write the report as-is and send it to see what the FAA says before paying her an additional $1000 for more testing. So she writes the report and sends me a copy. I feel the report was written in a kind of retaliatory manner. It seemed negative towards me, and was misleading as she described the above events and made it seem like the time from me taking my exam to her 'recommending' additional testing being like a day instead of a month. There was no mention of her originally telling me that I didn't need any additional testing or her telling me everything was fine when checked in with her. There's more, but again, trying not to make this about that or too long. I have other posts on it. I will give her credit though for putting towards the very bottom of the report basically that she didn't think I had ADHD, my evaluation from the ADHD diagnosis didn't suggest that I had it, and I was unlikely to have any aeromedically significant cognitive problems. Then after that, she went right back to more BS. Lol.
So this is where the additional $385 came from with my AME. He talked to her, plus we had conversations talking about the report and talking about what was in the emails. My AME thought I had very good reasoning to be questioning how things just up and randomly changed, and thought we should send the emails in with my medical to add context to her report. So I sent him the emails I had with her, and he read through them and said he thought we should definitely include them as the report without them probably wasn't the greatest for me. In addition, he decided to do a write up of his own with his evaluation of me as well. The $385 was from the time he spent doing this.
Summary of what I did--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I found a HIMS AME for my exam, scheduled a CONSULTATION (not an exam), and explained my intentions. *NOTE* You don't NEED a HIMS AME for your exam. You DO need a HIMS Neuropsych for the evaluation. I found a HIMS Neuropsych that was willing to do the ADHD evaluation without the FAA letter telling me to do so. I went to her with all the documents that the FAA says to provide in the ADHD PDF, with the exception of the FAA medical records as there weren't any because I hadn't had my exam. After my test, I checked with the neuropsych to see if I needed the full battery. Once the neuropsych said she didn't think I did, I started my flight training. I gave the neuropsych time to write the report, then I did my exam with my HIMS AME so the deferred exam and the report could be sent off at the same time. I then just waited patiently for a response. Fortunately that response was a special issuance.
I am NOT recommending you do this. This is just what I did. You do you. AOPA and my AME both recommended I wait and see what the FAA instructed me to do after the deferral before spending money to get testing. Based off of my research from here and some other sites, I find it unlikely that I wouldn't have had to do the neuropsych eval, so I went ahead and got it taken care of.

I feel like you all are some of the only ones who can understand me.
My ex invited me to live with him and his mother and her boyfriend early on after I had a falling out with my parents (was living with them for a time after a different breakup a year and a half prior). They treated me in ableist ways after my adult autism diagnosis and said that I had the brain of a 14-year-old at 28 and had no right to come and go as I pleased, to do my own laundry, eat what I wanted, or see friends. My mom said I would be acting like a whore if I stayed overnight with him. I blew up at her and almost slapped her and they kicked me out. My mom acted like I went off on her for no reason and she never said she was sorry for anything she ever did to me. That interaction wasn't the first time I had been treated like that by far. That was just the first time I did anything more than yell back. I am in therapy and I regret going as far as I did that day and I am working on boundaries and emotions, but even the therapist agrees that she pushed me and I reacted after years of pent up hurt and abuse.
Anyway, saying all that is just to set up the kind of life I was escaping from and explain why I felt betrayed by my ex. When this relationship eventually failed, I eventually got a place of my own and I have a superficial and distant relationship with my parents. I don't have to think about their feelings anymore and I don't think they are capable of true introspection. The older I get, the more I see how much they didn't teach me much of anything and they were only really there financially. They praise themselves constantly just for providing basic needs and having a bit of money. I feel like I'm raising myself and approaching 30. It's hard for me to rely on people.
So, he offered me a place to stay with him and his mother and her boyfriend. I didn't want to look at it as him saving me, but some part of me probably felt that way as he got me out of an abusive situation. I was vulnerable and scared and grieving all over again about my parents, but I felt like I could never discuss how much pain I was in.
Every time I tried to talk about it and process my past, he would say I was too much and that I was out of there and I should be happy with what I had with him. I would talk about struggling to feel at home there or being bothered by clutter and trying to find solutions to clean it with him and he would just get mad. He forced me to name things I was grateful for when living there.
I started being more critical of the mess he made and I would get frustrated with him for shutting me out and telling me how he thought I should express myself. He told me his family overheard me talking about my past and they said it was unhealthy of me and that I wanted to live in the past or be toxic. No, I was just trying to talk with my partner about what I lived through and what I overcame in therapy. He then told me that they don't talk about mental illness because his grandmother has BPD and they don't want anything to do with it.
On top of them seemingly seeing me as a problem and not just a person who had seen some shit and was trying to move on and do better, they were very irresponsible about covid and they left the house while all of us had it. They even lost a family member to covid after attending a family wedding during a nationwide surge where nobody wore masks and they still acted like it was nothing. I shared with my ex that they were being incredibly irresponsible (and I lost a grandparent to covid) and he was angry at me for criticizing his family. He got very drunk sometimes and one day, he told me that his dad beat him up while drunk and that if he could forgive his dad, then I should forgive my mom. I told him that wasn't his choice to make and he was crossing a boundary by treating me that way.
Not long after, around the same time I had covid and I was rejected by the housing authority for an apartment over 18 fucking dollars, I punched pillows in frustration after yet another dumb argument with my ex. His mom heard and asked what the noise was and I said I was stressed from trying to find housing and being sick and had punched the pillows and I didn't mean to concern her and I was sorry. She just walked out.
He went to his mom and seemingly asked her to tell me to leave by the end of the month because he was tired of me. I was very scared because I didn't know how feasible that would be, and I was sad and anxious because I wanted my relationship to go back to how it used to be. I wanted to believe it would get better and if it was my fault, then I could change it. Luckily, I got a room in a house just down the street while I waited for an apartment to open up.
Even after that, I still fought for the relationship. I wanted the kind man who had "saved" me to come back. I realize now that he was probably just love bombing me and then got mad when I wasn't what he wanted or didn't do what he wanted.
He pushed me away even more after he had a sudden eye problem that turned out to be an MS attack. I wanted to blame his behavior on the illness and I hoped we could come to an understanding or something, but he left me anyway.
I had hoped to have fun with someone new and know a happy family after having to leave my dysfunctional one. I just ran into more dysfunction and I feel angry about thinking that he was going to be a safe person. I feel let down and lied to even though I have a partner that I have a healthy relationship with now.
That was a very hard thing to go through. While my parents never really apologized, they do act embarrassed when they realize I went through all of that without their help and they probably see now that I'm not mentally 14. I hope they feel stupid for it.
I tried to be friends with my ex. He seemed somewhat regretful at first, but I didn't want to sit around hoping for him to come back and I didn't like his mother, so I started dating again. After I got a new boyfriend, he asked out his other ex/our mutual friend...and he'd always told me that he just saw her as a friend and not to worry about her. So, I ended the friendship then. I've been able to see how dysfunctional he is since then and while I was critical, I did own up to my mistakes. I tried. And I really had hoped to be there for him during his illness diagnosis. I thought that would stop our bickering and bring us close, but it didn't.
I see now that he was toxic in a lot of ways. I'm much happier without him. I'm very happy with my new guy. But, thinking of my ex still fills me with resentment and bitterness. He has a new gf and I don't want him to be happy. He certainly didn't help me with happiness during a very hard time in life.

It’s relatively recent, mostly within the past couple months. I found out about it by logging onto our joint account and seeing hundreds of dollars being withdrawn at ATMs. This happened when I thought he was working. He was actually working for some of the time, but in between he would gamble. I confronted him, and he came clean and said he was so sorry and has been so stressed out about us being so low on money that he felt he needed to do something instantly to get us money. He won occasionally, but lost money more often than not. I’m just so distraught. I won’t leave him, he’s my best friend and a great father to our kids, but I am so upset over this. I have lost trust in him, obviously, and feel that I need to control our finances even though I don’t even work.

I’m in a major East Coast city. I’m represented by 8 or so different galleries around the country. There’s a gallery in a smaller city about 300 miles away that has been consistently selling my work for several years that suddenly started not responding in a timely manner to communication from me and not sending any payments for sales. To say art sales can be unpredictable is an understatement, so I just chalked it up to there being a lull in their market, but gradually got more and more suspicious that things weren’t right. I had heard that other artists were also having trouble getting paid for confirmed sales. That, coupled with the gallery’s claim that a sale I was sure had happened months ago had “fallen through” led me to decide to pay them a surprise visit.
I rented a truck and drove the 300 miles and showed up unannounced at their gallery one afternoon. By the time I arrived, I had learned from a third party that the sale that had “fallen through “ had, in fact happened months ago. They had just decided not to pay me. (It’s pretty standard that galleries take a 50% commission.) As soon as I walked in the door, I told them I knew they had been lying to me and withholding my money and that I was removing all my inventory.
I knew that they should have had 20-30 of my paintings in inventory, but they only had 6. The owner told me that the rest of my work was being stored in another location, but I knew him well enough to easily see that he was lying, yet again. I felt there was no point in being lied to and treated like a fool to my face, so I quickly retrieved the six paining that were there and left, telling him he would be hearing from my lawyer.
Once I got back to my computer, my records indicated that there were actually 22 paintings missing, with a retail value of $160,000. I have been in touch with two lawyers who are looking at the details of the incident and deciding what my options are.
I’m 90% sure that there is no other storage facility- they have plenty of storage at the gallery.
I’m hoping to launch a lawsuit as quickly as possible and hopefully either have my paintings returned or be paid for anything they can’t produce. I assume that any communication I have with the gallery should now be through a lawyer. Does anyone have any experience with this type of suit and do you have any advice on what information I will need to back up my claim? Should I be calling the police, or do I need to wait until I have actual evidence of theft?
Most galleries I’ve dealt with seem to be run by trustworthy people, but over the years, I’ve heard stories of art galleries absconding with work and just disappearing. It seems like getting ripped off is an inevitable part of being an artist. This isn’t going to devastate me, but I’m pretty angry about it, and would really like to have either my work or the money owed me. I want to try to avoid any missteps that might compromise my lawsuit, so any advice you have would be much appreciated.

Sometime around late 2021 - early 2022 I came across a YouTube video claiming to be an unused animatic from the 70's for a potential edit made to the American dub of Speed Racer. In reality, the description specified this was actually just a college project of some sort.
The video opened with text claiming that the people in charge of the American dub of Speed Racer were unhappy with how the confrontation between Speed and Racer X goes down in the 50th episode. They then show a clip from the ending where Speed asks Racer X if he's his older brother, only for Racer X to punch him in the gut, rendering Speed unconscious. Then more text appears claiming that the people in charge planned to reanimate a completely different ending before ultimately deciding to cancel, and the animatic they are about to show us was all that was ever worked on. Finally, the video shows the animatic, which is just semi-detailed pencil art to sell the effect, which shows Speed still asking Racer X if he's his older brother. Only now Racer X decides to unmask himself and confess that he is Speed's brother. The two then hug before Racer X decides that he must still go into hiding and quit being a racer to become a full time special agent.
I really liked this video, despite how my description may sound, and would love to watch it again. Does anyone know what this is?

Got paid yesterday and blew most of it yesterday. Woke up today feeling depressed and wanted to win it back so I took money out from my credit card and ended up losing 250 more. Now I only have 300 to my name till next payday. Only thing new is that I’m giving my mother 500 each paycheque which is now Mandatory after telling her I have this gambling issue. I keep dwelling on what could of happened, maybe I could have got a max win or whatever. Funny thing was I was down to 22 dollars and did a 2.40$ spin and hit the feature and paid 700 and the rush got me back in the zone. Lost it all and hour later trynna chase and banned the account but I’m sitting here in my room sulking in my thoughts wanting to give up this addiction for good. I keep going weeks with the passion to stop but I see ppl on Facebook shorts winning big and after a few of those I think I can win too but it never works out that way. I already know the casino isn’t a place to win money it’s all an illusion and maybe I go for the rush of the maybe I will win big money but it’s a miserable fantasy. I need to save my Money and find new hobbies I work 5 days a week 6-2 and it gets tiring and I work for the casino I’m like there lacky or something. Gambling has a hold of me and I feel lonely even after reading some of your guys post. I don’t have debt but honestly if I keep going this route I’ll be homeless and no friends or family and I can’t go there. Yesterday wen I got off the skytrain I saw a young man laying in the floor and wen I walked past I look him in the eyes and I saw the sadness and almost felt Like that was a message for me to show where I’ll be if I don’t give up this addiction now! Any advice helps thanks fellas
