Finally the time to release the feelings I had long suppressed. I slowly sank the silver blade four inches into her chest.
Her eyes widened in surprise as she cried out in pain. She tried again to resist, her efforts all but vain.
Blood flowed freely from the gash, velvet snakes slipped to the floor. Her tears melted with blood as she fought to win the war.
The crimson streamed across her chest, her eyes lost their willful shine. Red was never her best colour, but it had always been mine.

Hey I’m george im from just outside of London and i dont really know how to do one of these so im gonna just list my hobbies and hope someone likes the same stuff as me!
Im a film student at university so im a huge film and tv buff my fav directors are Scorsese del toro and lynch and im currently watching through twin peaks! In terms of visual media i also am pretty fond of anime tho not as much as i used to be and ive got a huge soft spot for JoJos and hunter x hunter.
Im a very musically motivated person I listen to a vast variety of music and its something im actually pretty proud of some of my top artists are Prince, smashing pumpkins, Jamiroquai, red hot chili peppers and steely dan. As for genres i listen to old hip hop, dance, house, drum and bass, jazz, rock, and basically everything inbetween. I actually have some festivals and shows booked so it might be cool to bump into someone whos also going!
Im also pretty keen on going to the gym im no beefcake 3000 but im starting to get into habits that are being really good for my physical and mental health.
Besides all that i like reading, playing guitar, working, having fun basically. Im not a huge drinker but i will if i have to. Im medically prescribed cannabis which i only use at night for sleep.
I just realised how long this is so ill finish off with a lil description of myself, im 5”11 i have ten tattoos a 9 piercings i have fairly long brown hair and blue eyes!

Scenario: Isla de Piedra, Somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea — 11:44AM
Dédalo Viatger, adventurer, archaeologist and explorer extraordinaire, had filled his travelog with countless exploits on his never-ending quest to uncover the secrets of the ancient world. Following the trail of the lost civilization of Pieduro was proving to be his lengthiest entry yet. Armed with powerful Pieduron artifacts known as the Temples, Dédalo and the Pieduron entity ｢Perdida｣ had forged a path across the Mediterranean, getting ever closer to solving the mystery of their disappearance.
With assistance from Cullinan Dwarf Star, Patron of the House of Muses, Dédalo and Perdida were on the verge of discovering the final piece of the puzzle. Their journey had come full circle, and Dédalo and Perdida’s adventure would end where it began; on the island of Isla de Piedra.
Situated between the coasts of Southern Spain and North Africa, Isla de Piedra had been uninhabited for all of recorded history, though not for lack of trying. The dense forests and greenery that covered every square meter of the island made it a ripe target for logging companies and greedy colonists to strip it for all it was worth. None had succeeded—their abandoned camps had long since been reclaimed by the forest.
The only other sign of human life on the island was the ancient Pieduron outpost where Dédalo’s journey first began, and where it would now hopefully end. The trek to get there was as difficult as the first time—but he didn’t have to do it alone now. At his side were his ever faithful companion Perdida, the inquisitive swordswoman Ninian, the extraordinary android 2095, and the illustrious ice skater Electra (although he didn’t call them that out loud).
Dédalo led the party up a long, winding stone staircase, pointing out the many partially-disabled traps along the way. He and Ninian had long been in contact, and the latter could personally vouch for her +1s—2095 one of the few Bastards she could trust and Electra having earned her trust in for her actions against Enyalius & Enyo Pharmaceuticals in San Battista.
“...and here’s a wall of spikes that shoot out when you pass over that threshold,” he pointed out with a tour guide’s enthusiasm. “I managed to jam up the mechanism with some cloth, but we should probably tread carefully around here.”
Electra rolled her eyes, even though Dédalo couldn’t see the gesture. “Should have just blown it up,” she muttered, annoyed. While her experiences in San Battista had somewhat melted her frosty demeanor, it had still been a long, hot, exhausting trip to get here, and old habits died hard.
“Watch your tone, miss,” Perdida said from behind her ear, making her jump. “My people’s architecture is not something to “blow up”.”
“And it might not have worked,” 2095 chimed in. “If this outpost could survive all those centuries of wear, I doubt a mundane explosion would do much damage to it.”
“The Piedurons built everything to last, from their treasures to their traps.” Dédalo gingerly ducked under the blade of a massive pendulum axe that jutted out from the ceiling. “Fortunate in some ways, unfortunate in others.”
At last, they reached the center chamber. Carved from stone and coated with moss, it appeared just as untouched as the rest of the outpost—save for the podium in the middle of the chamber and the conspicuously empty space on top of it, where the moss grew a little bit thinner.
“Ah, this brings back memories,” Dédalo chuckled. “This is where Perdida and I first met. The El Cor Terra necklace lay in this very spot at the heart of the chamber. When I unfastened it, poof! There she appeared in all of her resplendent glory. We hit it off right away.”
“He tried to cut my head off with a machete.”
“In self-defense!”
“Ok, move it along, lovebirds,” Electra huffed. “Where’s the thing we were looking for? It’s somewhere in here, right?”
Brushing past the “lovebirds” comment, Dédalo retrieved a piece of parchment from his explorer’s pack marked with the symbol of the House of Muses. “According to Cullinan, the hidden door should be right over on that wall.” He pointed over 2095’s shoulder at the northern wall of the chamber. “The question is…how do we open it?”
2095 gave the room a once-over. Aside from the layer of moss and vegetation covering the chamber, it was pretty bare. Its only noticeable feature seemed to be the podium.
“Perhaps the podium could offer some answers.” The party gathered around the stone podium—a stone cylinder, atop which stood a carving which vaguely resembled the neck and collarbone area of a human, with a thin groove running where a necklace would hang. Perdida instantly recognized the Cleria stone inlays around the circumference of the podium.
She traced a finger along the length of the groove, and the Cleria stone beneath it glowed—and, at a volume only audible to 2095’s mechanical hearing, it began to hum.
“Keep going, Perdida,” she whispered. Perdida closed her eyes, feeling herself attune to the place where she lay dormant for thousands of years. The Cleria stone grew brighter and brighter, the hum getting louder and louder.
Suddenly, the room shook. Electra leaped back, expecting another trap. Instead, she watched as the north wall slid open like the doors of an elevator, revealing two hallways; one leading up, the other leading down, both with Cleria stone markings along the walls that pulsed with a gentle light.
“Thank goodness,” Dédalo sighed. “I was worried the real treasure was going to be the friends we made along the way.”
Dédalo and Perdida continued to trek up the hallway, climbing what was likely the control tower of the outpost. Ninian dutifully followed behind them, ready to draw her blade at whatever might strike from the newly unknown section of the outpost. The sound of exhaled breath made her jump...but it was only a sigh from Dédalo. “A shame you came aboard so late, Ninian; our journey’s almost up.”
Ninian’s confusion spiked to alarm as the explorer motioned to lean against the wall. “Watch out-”
Dédalo made contact and nothing happened. He tilted his head to the end of the corridor, a doorway just a few meters away. “We’re far enough in that we’ve most likely avoided the worst of the traps. Besides, I don’t think the Piedurons would have placed many traps so close to a place of importance.” He wistfully rubbed his arm, massaging the strain of adventures and injuries in equal measure. “Feels almost bittersweet. So many months of travel and turmoil, and the end of our journey is in sight.”
“Hey, don’t say that yet. We still need to find a way to get my human body back.” Pedida gently punched him in his shoulder. Still, her pout eventually softened as she looked back towards the final chamber. “I guess you are correct, though. The answer to the Pieduron collapse lies beyond those doors. What comes after…nobody knows”
“Quite right,” Dédalo nodded, and the group moved onwards. “I hope that Electra and 2095 are doing okay down there, in any case.”
“I hope that the rest of the outpost is okay,” Perdida frowned. “They didn’t seem to appreciate how precious this place is—I don’t want to lose another one.”
“I don’t think we have to worry too much about losing them,” A grin of cat-like mischief unfurled on Ninian’s face as hoarse laughter echoed on a draft. There were adventures to come and to be seen, but one to reach its conclusion here and now, and the anticipation made Ninian’s hair stand on end.
The group carefully entered the room, and Perdida flickered out of existence. Before any of them could respond, the control room flickered to life. The stone walls that extended higher and higher suddenly turned “on” as if they were screens, but these were more akin to slabs whose light-emitting runes and rocks flickered and changed in the appearance of Perdida—Perdidas, in fact. All of them, on the many screens, acted in unison as Dédalo rushed forward. “Dédalo, what’s going on?”
“We’re figuring it out,” he shouted as he and Ninian raced to the panels below, trying to decipher the text streaming by. Soon, however, one message displayed on a readout screen:
Meanwhile, having taken the outpost’s lower path, 2095 and Electra entered into a large atrium. Like the rest of the outpost, the walls and floor were composed of the usual, teal stone that seemed impossibly durable. The fact that they could use it to form buildings, carve intricate murals, and keep it all hidden was impressive, but they craned their heads upwards towards the skylight that would let rain and sun in. Through the overgrown foliage, they could see a massive flat ring of Cleria floating above the ground in stubborn defiance of the laws of physics. Gravity-defying gyroscopes of stone spun and swirled in the air above, rotating with the same slow grace as the ancient gears that whirred to life around them. The glow of the Cleria blended together with the light of the noonday sun; the hum of power permeated the entire chamber.
“...shit,” Electra murmured, not sure what else to say.
2095 scanned the rest of the atrium, but ultimately found nothing beyond a discolored, glowing pad on the floor by the opposite wall, outcroppings on the walls that resembled benches, and the remnants of what appeared to be ancient drinking fountains. Rest now before it’s too late, the room seemed to scream.
“I believe we should wait for the others before we go deeper,” 2095 announced. “We could retrace our steps and explore the previous areas, in case we missed another hidden passageway or an undiscovered treasure. It would be a shame to proceed not knowing whether we’ve left every stone unturned-”
“Not a chance,” Electra huffed. “I’m not letting us get killed because of your FOMO. Come on.”
She grabbed 2095 by the wrist and began to drag her over to the pads. 2095 let her—partly because she weighed significantly more than Electra did and she didn’t want her to hurt herself trying to pull her by force, but partly because she was right. She could feel the air buzzing with energy, intensifying by the second. Something big was about to happen.
The two stepped onto the floor pad and immediately felt themselves being shunted into a different space as the teleporter activated. When their vision cleared, they found themselves standing on top of the Cleria ring itself. Electra could smell the ozone in the air and taste the prickling on her tongue. This ring was the key to the whole mechanism—either it was powering the outpost…or the outpost was powering it.
2095 gazed in awe at the machinery surrounding them. It reminded her of the technology from her time; except instead of steel and chrome, it was made of rock and crystal. What secrets died with the Piedurons when they disappeared?
She turned to Electra to express her wonder and nearly screamed when she saw the vantablack vines burst out of her shadowed face, ready to smash the ring to pieces.
“What are you doing?!” 2095 yelled, ｢Yours Truly｣ appearing at her side, tentacles raised.
“I’m destroying this thing, duh,” spat Electra. “I know a superweapon when I see one, and I’m not about to let some dipshit corporation get their hands on it after we leave.”
The chamber shook, bits of rocks and dust falling from the ceiling. “B-but we don’t even know whether this is a superweapon! Aren’t you acting a bit rash?”
“Rash? Seriously? You have no idea what some people in Dead Drop Bay would do for an artifact like this.” Electra remembered what she saw in San Battista—the monster that she had to put down, fuelled by a desire to abuse the remnants of the past for her own gain. “Farewell to Kings, Dead Man’s Hand; hell, even my own company. They’d sink this island to the bottom of the ocean for the chance to have this thing for themselves. This way, I’m solving the problem before it has a chance to start.”
“And risk destroying the legacy of an entire civilization?!” 2095 felt anger boiling in her metallic chest. A part of her resonated with the Piedurons in this moment—she knew what it was like to be a relic of an era far from the present, the last remaining piece of a time nobody would ever know. “What gives you the right to decide what to do with an artifact of this magnitude? To bury what could be the last hope of Pieduro to be remembered as anything but a footnote in history?”
The chamber shook again—this time, both 2095 and Electra felt the ground shift under their feet. Without warning, walls of stone burst out of the ground around them, tearing through centuries-old roots and vines to surround the ring on all sides. Slabs of Cleria stone with deep divots carved into the top of them emerged from the ring itself and floated just above its surface like a magnet levitating atop another.
In the control tower below them, Dédalo and Ninian scrambled from panel to panel, desperately trying to decipher what was going on. Dédalo could see the two other members of the party facing off inside the ring—but before he could call out to them, he heard Perdida’s voice resonate from every screen.
“The Temples…I can see them.”
Ninian watched the panel in front of her light up, displaying a holographic map of the Mediterranean, hundreds of glowing blue dots scattered across the projection.
Dédalo rushed to the nearest screen and grabbed it. “Perdida! Are you alright?!”
“Y-yes, I’m fine.” Perdida blinked hard, putting a hand to the side of her head. “I can feel every Temple in the Mediterranean. I…I think I can gain access to them from here.”
“Access? Like…you can turn them on?” Ninian asked.
“Yes. All of them.” Before Perdida could say any more, the chamber shook once more. In the room below, the ring glowed even more brightly, the two would-be explorers now utterly trapped within it by the sloped walls surrounding it.
“See what I mean?!” Electra clenched her fists, snapping flytrap jaws emerging from the shadow underneath her. “We need to put this entire place in the ground. For good. And like hell am I going to let you stop me!”
Suddenly, all across the surface of the ring, crackling orbs of energy sparked to life, both 2095 and Electra just managing to avoid them. The orbs spun in a circle around the ring, accelerating rapidly until they were nothing but a blur. 2095 recognized the movements of the orbs immediately; it looked like a particle accelerator.
“I hoped we could resolve this peacefully, Electra.” 2095 flicked the silver locks out of her face. “But now I have to convince you in the only language you seem to understand—the language of violence. Don’t hold back.”
The age-old machinery around them hummed to a crescendo. If either of the two combatants wanted to see their convictions through, they would need to survive the full power of Pieduro first.
OPEN THE GAME!
Location: On Isla de Piedra, (Shoutouts to u/TheSlyKoopa for the match art) inside the Floating Ring. The arena shown here has Electra on the north side and 2095 on the south side represented by their character tokens. The players are in the area inside the ring and have no way to exit with sloping walls on all sides.
The ring has a diameter of 60 meters and the internal width is 15 meters; the entire structure is A Durability.
The brown rectangles inside the ring are Pieduron Temples that resemble short, knee-tall minecarts made out of stone slabs.
Goal: RETIRE your opponent!
Additional Information: Over the course of 10 minutes, the ring will spawn 6-inch diameter orbs of light that will accelerate and move in an orbit around the ring at A Speed. Each orb takes 4 seconds to spawn-in, glowing in place and translucent, before it becomes a solid orb.
The orbs move completely along the curvature of the ring, counterclockwise (denoted by the arrows on the map) and can be spawned anywhere inside the ring. When they hit something solid, they will detonate at C Power—powerful enough to destroy vines and ink left by ｢Venus Fly Trap｣ and tentacles from ｢Yours Truly｣—and cause another orb to spawn where the original one started. The orbs have a blast radius of half a meter and other orbs exploding around them will not trigger them to detonate.
Orbs will complete one revolution around the ring anywhere from 3 seconds (inside track) to 6 seconds (along the rim).
Assuming you are standing still, the rough number of orbs that pass by will be 5 orbs per second at the first minute mark, 10 orbs per second at the second minute mark, and so on until the maximum of 50 orbs per second at the ten minute mark.
Starting near each player and around the map are Pieduron temples that resemble minecarts. Each kart can comfortably fit one person, have a handle on either side, and a single rudder-like steering peripheral. The wheels of the kart will always stick to the ring, but they can drive just fine along the walls or even the ceiling of the ring. Karts move at up to B Speed and players intuitively have a 4 in driving them. At max speed, karts can complete one revolution in 4 to 8 seconds (4 seconds on the inside track and 8 seconds on the rim).

She traced a finger along the length of the groove, and the Cleria stone beneath it glowed—and, at a volume only audible to 2095’s mechanical hearing, it began to hum.
“Keep going, Perdida,” she whispered. Perdida closed her eyes, feeling herself attune to the place where she lay dormant for thousands of years. The Cleria stone grew brighter and brighter, the hum getting louder and louder.
Suddenly, the room shook. Electra leaped back, expecting another trap. Instead, she watched as the north wall slid open like the doors of an elevator, revealing two hallways; one leading up, the other leading down, both with Cleria stone markings along the walls that pulsed with a gentle light.
“Thank goodness,” Dédalo sighed. “I was worried the real treasure was going to be the friends we made along the way.”
Ninian’s confusion spiked to alarm as the explorer motioned to lean against the wall. “Watch out-”
Dédalo made contact and nothing happened. He tilted his head to the end of the corridor, a doorway just a few meters away. “We’re far enough in that we’ve most likely avoided the worst of the traps. Besides, I don’t think the Piedurons would have placed many traps so close to a place of importance.” He wistfully rubbed his arm, massaging the strain of adventures and injuries in equal measure. “Feels almost bittersweet. So many months of travel and turmoil, and the end of our journey is in sight.”
“Hey, don’t say that yet. We still need to find a way to get my human body back.” Pedida gently punched him in his shoulder. Still, her pout eventually softened as she looked back towards the final chamber. “I guess you are correct, though. The answer to the Pieduron collapse lies beyond those doors. What comes after…nobody knows”
“Quite right,” Dédalo nodded, and the group moved onwards. “I hope that Electra and 2095 are doing okay down there, in any case.”
“I hope that the rest of the outpost is okay,” Perdida frowned. “They didn’t seem to appreciate how precious this place is—I don’t want to lose another one.”
“I don’t think we have to worry too much about losing them,” A grin of cat-like mischief unfurled on Ninian’s face as hoarse laughter echoed on a draft. There were adventures to come and to be seen, but one to reach its conclusion here and now, and the anticipation made Ninian’s hair stand on end.
The group carefully entered the room, and Perdida flickered out of existence. Before any of them could respond, the control room flickered to life. The stone walls that extended higher and higher suddenly turned “on” as if they were screens, but these were more akin to slabs whose light-emitting runes and rocks flickered and changed in the appearance of Perdida—Perdidas, in fact. All of them, on the many screens, acted in unison as Dédalo rushed forward. “Dédalo, what’s going on?”
“We’re figuring it out,” he shouted as he and Ninian raced to the panels below, trying to decipher the text streaming by. Soon, however, one message displayed on a readout screen:
MYSTICALLY AUTOMATED KNOWLEDGE SYSTEM 0 DETECTED
RESUMING RING FUNCTIONALITY
“...shit,” Electra murmured, not sure what else to say.
2095 scanned the rest of the atrium, but ultimately found nothing beyond a discolored, glowing pad on the floor by the opposite wall, outcroppings on the walls that resembled benches, and the remnants of what appeared to be ancient drinking fountains. Rest now before it’s too late, the room seemed to scream.
“I believe we should wait for the others before we go deeper,” 2095 announced. “We could retrace our steps and explore the previous areas, in case we missed another hidden passageway or an undiscovered treasure. It would be a shame to proceed not knowing whether we’ve left every stone unturned-”
“Not a chance,” Electra huffed. “I’m not letting us get killed because of your FOMO. Come on.”
She grabbed 2095 by the wrist and began to drag her over to the pads. 2095 let her—partly because she weighed significantly more than Electra did and she didn’t want her to hurt herself trying to pull her by force, but partly because she was right. She could feel the air buzzing with energy, intensifying by the second. Something big was about to happen.
The two stepped onto the floor pad and immediately felt themselves being shunted into a different space as the teleporter activated. When their vision cleared, they found themselves standing on top of the Cleria ring itself. Electra could smell the ozone in the air and taste the prickling on her tongue. This ring was the key to the whole mechanism—either it was powering the outpost…or the outpost was powering it.
2095 gazed in awe at the machinery surrounding them. It reminded her of the technology from her time; except instead of steel and chrome, it was made of rock and crystal. What secrets died with the Piedurons when they disappeared?
She turned to Electra to express her wonder and nearly screamed when she saw the vantablack vines burst out of her shadowed face, ready to smash the ring to pieces.
“What are you doing?!” 2095 yelled, ｢Yours Truly｣ appearing at her side, tentacles raised.
“I’m destroying this thing, duh,” spat Electra. “I know a superweapon when I see one, and I’m not about to let some dipshit corporation get their hands on it after we leave.”
The chamber shook, bits of rocks and dust falling from the ceiling. “B-but we don’t even know whether this is a superweapon! Aren’t you acting a bit rash?”
“Rash? Seriously? You have no idea what some people in Dead Drop Bay would do for an artifact like this.” Electra remembered what she saw in San Battista—the monster that she had to put down, fuelled by a desire to abuse the remnants of the past for her own gain. “Farewell to Kings, Dead Man’s Hand; hell, even my own company. They’d sink this island to the bottom of the ocean for the chance to have this thing for themselves. This way, I’m solving the problem before it has a chance to start.”
“And risk destroying the legacy of an entire civilization?!” 2095 felt anger boiling in her metallic chest. A part of her resonated with the Piedurons in this moment—she knew what it was like to be a relic of an era far from the present, the last remaining piece of a time nobody would ever know. “What gives you the right to decide what to do with an artifact of this magnitude? To bury what could be the last hope of Pieduro to be remembered as anything but a footnote in history?”
The chamber shook again—this time, both 2095 and Electra felt the ground shift under their feet. Without warning, walls of stone burst out of the ground around them, tearing through centuries-old roots and vines to surround the ring on all sides. Slabs of Cleria stone with deep divots carved into the top of them emerged from the ring itself and floated just above its surface like a magnet levitating atop another.
In the control tower below them, Dédalo and Ninian scrambled from panel to panel, desperately trying to decipher what was going on. Dédalo could see the two other members of the party facing off inside the ring—but before he could call out to them, he heard Perdida’s voice resonate from every screen.
“The Temples…I can see them.”
Ninian watched the panel in front of her light up, displaying a holographic map of the Mediterranean, hundreds of glowing blue dots scattered across the projection.
Dédalo rushed to the nearest screen and grabbed it. “Perdida! Are you alright?!”
“Y-yes, I’m fine.” Perdida blinked hard, putting a hand to the side of her head. “I can feel every Temple in the Mediterranean. I…I think I can gain access to them from here.”
“Access? Like…you can turn them on?” Ninian asked.
“Yes. All of them.” Before Perdida could say any more, the chamber shook once more. In the room below, the ring glowed even more brightly, the two would-be explorers now utterly trapped within it by the sloped walls surrounding it.
“See what I mean?!” Electra clenched her fists, snapping flytrap jaws emerging from the shadow underneath her. “We need to put this entire place in the ground. For good. And like hell am I going to let you stop me!”
Suddenly, all across the surface of the ring, crackling orbs of energy sparked to life, both 2095 and Electra just managing to avoid them. The orbs spun in a circle around the ring, accelerating rapidly until they were nothing but a blur. 2095 recognized the movements of the orbs immediately; it looked like a particle accelerator.
“I hoped we could resolve this peacefully, Electra.” 2095 flicked the silver locks out of her face. “But now I have to convince you in the only language you seem to understand—the language of violence. Don’t hold back.”
The age-old machinery around them hummed to a crescendo. If either of the two combatants wanted to see their convictions through, they would need to survive the full power of Pieduro first.

The ring has a diameter of 60 meters and the internal width is 15 meters; the entire structure is A Durability.
The brown rectangles inside the ring are Pieduron Temples that resemble short, knee-tall minecarts made out of stone slabs.
Goal: RETIRE your opponent!
Additional Information: Over the course of 10 minutes, the ring will spawn 6-inch diameter orbs of light that will accelerate and move in an orbit around the ring at A Speed. Each orb takes 4 seconds to spawn-in, glowing in place and translucent, before it becomes a solid orb.
The orbs move completely along the curvature of the ring, counterclockwise (denoted by the arrows on the map) and can be spawned anywhere inside the ring. When they hit something solid, they will detonate at C Power—powerful enough to destroy vines and ink left by ｢Venus Fly Trap｣ and tentacles from ｢Yours Truly｣—and cause another orb to spawn where the original one started. The orbs have a blast radius of half a meter and other orbs exploding around them will not trigger them to detonate.
Orbs will complete one revolution around the ring anywhere from 3 seconds (inside track) to 6 seconds (along the rim).
Assuming you are standing still, the rough number of orbs that pass by will be 5 orbs per second at the first minute mark, 10 orbs per second at the second minute mark, and so on until the maximum of 50 orbs per second at the ten minute mark.
Starting near each player and around the map are Pieduron temples that resemble minecarts. Each kart can comfortably fit one person, have a handle on either side, and a single rudder-like steering peripheral. The wheels of the kart will always stick to the ring, but they can drive just fine along the walls or even the ceiling of the ring. Karts move at up to B Speed and players intuitively have a 4 in driving them. At max speed, karts can complete one revolution in 4 to 8 seconds (4 seconds on the inside track and 8 seconds on the rim).
All karts have three other special features that can be activated when a driver is steering it, the Turtle, the Spider, and the Crab:
- The Turtle is a forcefield-like shield that can cover the kart and anybody riding inside it. This forcefield only protects against the fast moving orbs and their explosions and is intangible to everything else. It lasts up to 2 seconds and has a 6 second cooldown before it can be activated again. It can also be set to automatically activate if the minecart is about to hit or be affected by an orb, otherwise it can be manually activated by the driver.
- The Spider is a net-like shield that functions somewhat similarly to the forcefield the Turtle. The main difference is that instead of blocking orbs, it catches them and converts them into an inert palm-sized orb that is stowed inside the minecart. This shield does also block explosions produced by orbs, but will not produce an inert orb in those cases. The Spider lasts up to 1 second and shares a cooldown with the Turtle. Inert orbs are orbs that can be converted back into fast moving orbs by being thrown with force and intent. They can be made to move exactly in a straight line or along the curvature of the ring when thrown. Inert orbs have no other special properties, other than being A Durability.
- The Crab is a fast sideways dash up to 8 meters, with a minimum distance of 1 meter. Once the dash is finished, the kart will resume moving in the direction and speed it had before initiating the dash, making it useful for dodging without turning or changing the direction the kart is going in. This feature has a stamina bar where the longer your dash distance is, the more stamina will be used up. It takes 4 seconds for the stamina bar to fill up from empty.

Strap in, everyone, because we have a long road ahead of us. In addition to the NINE games between Top 25 teams, FOUR upsets happened. That's right, the Top 25 was below .500 in its entirety today. So let's see how they did it.

#1 UCLA 90, #9 Syracuse 79. The key to beating a 2-3 zone is to shoot over it. Fortunately for the Bruins, they can.
Reggie Miller had 25 points and led an onslaught that included 13 three-pointers as the Bruins (10-0) took out the Orange (8-2) to maintain their winning streak, now at 47 games and counting.
"The shots were falling tonight," Miller said after the game. "We got what we wanted in terms of looks, and we got them to go in."
In addition to Miller's 5 three-pointers, Russell Westbrook had 3, Kiki Vandeweghe had 2, and Gail Goodrich, Kevin Love, and Jrue Holiday each had one. Syracuse, for their part, shot well, with Carmelo Anthony hitting six threes on his own to get to 22 total points, but it wasn't enough.
"They're #1 for a reason," Orange coach Jim Boeheim said.
#8 Michigan 68, #4 Duke 61. The Power Five have been cracked.
Michigan's defense held Duke to 29% shooting and Juwan Howard led the way with 16 points as the Wolverines (9-1) stunned the Blue Devils (8-2) before a court-storming crowd at Michigan Court.
"This is why you play the game," Howard said amidst a crowd of fans. "We shook up the world tonight. We wanted this one. You beat Duke, you've done good!"
Grant Hill led the Devils with 13 points, but the entire team struggled.
"We were cold tonight," Hill said. "Props to Michigan; their defense smothered us. Not much you can do."
#3 Kentucky 67, #2 North Carolina 64. Who do you call on when you have everyone? Someone's bound to be open, and such was the case here.
Louie Dampier found Devin Booker in the corner as time expired, and the Wildcats (9-1) stunned the Tar Heels (8-2) to send them to their second last-second defeat of the non-conference season.
"We ran a pick and roll off the ball to get [Michael] Jordan off of me and get me open," Booker said, recounting the final play. "Louie knew where I was, he got the pass off after driving for the double... everything just fell into place."
Both teams turned up the defense in this one. Dan Issel led Kentucky with 15 points, while Jordan led North Carolina with 13. Outside shooting was particularly hard to go by, as Booker's winner was only the fifth three-pointer of the game combined.
"We did almost everything right," Tar Heels coach Dean Smith said after the game. "Almost."
#5 Kansas 75, #14 Arizona 59. The top teams have shown anyone can step up at any time. Kansas proved it tonight.
Kirk Hinrich caught fire, getting 20 points with five three-pointers, as the Jayhawks (9-1) knocked off the Wildcats (7-3) to produce a potential future matchup with Kentucky.
"We've been seeing how other teams have done," Hinrich said. "It's important we keep winning. We want that last one seed when the dust settles."
Mike Bibby had 15 points, but also committed 8 turnovers as JoJo White's defense proved to be too much for him.
"I had a bad day," Bibby admitted. "This loss is on me."
Arkansas 90, #23 Iowa 83. Are they going to be ranked now? It's not certain what else has to be done.
Joe Johnson went off for 24 points and the full-court pressure held Fred Brown to 5 points as the Razorbacks (8-2) pulled off their second straight top-25 upset, this time knocking off the Hawkeyes (7-3).
"We're just going to keep playing the way we're capable of and we'll be in good shape," Johnson said. "We got off to a slow start, but now we're showing the world what we're capable of."
Don Nelson led the Hawkeyes with 18 points.
#12 Connecticut 92, #21 Alabama 80. A quick rise to the top by the Tide made people wonder if the SEC would have a wild race. Now, it looks like this Tide is receding.
Andre Drummond had 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Huskies (8-2) to a big road win over the Tide (7-3) that may solidify them as favorites in the Big East.
"We had an advantage inside, and we knew we could use it," Huskies coach Jim Calhoun said after the game. "We needed this win, you know? A chance to show the Big East still goes through us."
Alabama attempted to turn up the pace against the big men of Connecticut, but Kemba Walker and Ray Allen were able to break the press on offense. On defense, super sub Richard Hamilton helped slow down the opposition, getting 4 steals in the second half.
Latrell Sprewell led the Tide with 18 points.
#9 Notre Dame 67, #17 DePaul 65, OT. Most of the game was a battle inside. But it was outside shooting from a very unlikely source that won the game.
John Paxson hit two three-pointers late in overtime to lead the Fighting Irish (8-2) to an overtime victory over the Blue Demons (7-3).
"All of our players can contribute," coach Digger Phelps told reporters after the game. "We hear a lot about Adrian Dantley and Bill Laimbeer, but we're a team of stars. We feel we can beat anyone."
With the game tied at 58 nearing the end of regulation, George Mikan looked to have won the game with a hook shot. However, before he could shoot, he was whistled for a three-second violation. Paxson's heroics in overtime then meant the difference.
"I lost track of time," a dejected Mikan said in the locker room. "I'm sorry, Blue Demon fans."
#25 Illinois 66, #19 Georgetown 56. Illinois coach Lou Henson wanted to focus on defense as much as offense. It's safe to say his team was ready to respond.
A focused effort held Allen Iverson scoreless on the day as the Illini (8-2) stunned the Hoyas (7-3) in a defensive struggle with neither team able to get open shots most of the day.
"That's what I was hoping for," Henson said after the game. "We wanted to get our defensive strength before we faced teams like Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota... I think today we showed we can win ugly as well as win beautifully."
Derek Harper, who led all scorers with 17 points, was the primary responsibility, but Iverson found himself constantly double-teamed with Donnie Freeman and Deron Williams. While Iverson did wind up with 9 assists, the shutout clearly bothered him, as he picked up a late technical foul arguing a no-call.
"We need to work on getting Allen involved more," Hoyas coach John Thompson admitted. "You can't just win inside in this game."
Cincinnati 81, #18 LSU 60. Maybe the adjustment from the AAC to the Big XII will be easier than we were led to believe.
Oscar Robertson had a triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists, while Jack Twyman had 21 points as the Bearcats (8-2) stunned everyone by trouncing the Tigers (7-3) in front of the Cats' home fans.
"That was an incredible win," Bearcats coach Ed Jucker said after the game. "They kept talking about their starting five, but today we showed you need a lot of depth to get anywhere. We got that depth and we got a chance to win it all. I hope Kansas is paying attention -- they're not sweeping us this season."
Defense also proved to be a big deal. Robertson and Nick Van Exel constantly switched off on Pete Maravich, holding the scoring machine to only 8 points on the day. Bob Pettit was able to take some advantage to score 17 points, but the Tigers had no help from the bench, as the Cats' bench outscored the Tigers' reserves 21-3.
"Gotta be more than the first five," center Shaquille O'Neal said after the game. "We can only do so much and if one of us is in trouble, we gotta get stepping up."
#15 Southern Cal 78, #16 Maryland 55. Don't sleep on the Trojans now. When they're going against teams in the second and third tier, they are deadly.
Bill Sharman led all scorers with 24 points as the Trojans (8-2) steamrolled the Terrapins (7-3) to make a statement about their goals for this season.
"We think we can steal a Final Four spot," coach Sam Barry said after the game. "Today proved we have the talent to do it. If the shots fall, we can beat anyone."
Gene Shue led the Terrapins with 13 points.
#6 Michigan State 61, #13 Texas 60. The Longhorns seem to be willing to live and die by Kevin Durant. The Spartans knew it when it mattered.
Draymond Green knocked away a pass intended for Durant on the final play of the game to preserve a victory for the Spartans (8-2) over the Longhorns (7-3) on the road in a critical matchup.
"We saw where they were going, we knew they had one big star and if we denied him, we didn't think anyone else could step up," Green said after the game. "I know how to beat Durant, we know how to win the game, and we're just that good."
Magic Johnson had 14 points and 7 assists to lead the Spartans. Durant, for his part, led all scorers with 21 points, but couldn't get the last two, as Avery Bradley's inbound was knocked away.
"Close isn't good enough in crunch time," Durant said to reporters.
NC State 74, #20 Minnesota 65. Last year, the Wolfpack were controversially sent to the NIT despite going 18-14 in the toughest schedule in the country. If they keep winning, they may take it out of the committee's hands when all is said and done.
JJ Hickson had 5 blocks of Kevin McHale on the day and David Thompson scored 20 as the Wolfpack (8-2) stunned the Golden Gophers (7-3) to pick up a road win.
"We deserve to be ranked, and we deserve to be in the [NIBL] tournament," Thompson said after the game. "We've said all year our goal is to be undeniable. If we qualify for selection, we're going to make sure they have to take us. That means winning a lot in non-con, and that's what we're doing."
With Thompson driving and causing collapses of the defense, the outside shooters also had their chances. Spud Webb and Tom Gugliotta hit three three-pointers each over the Gopher defense.
"This was a bad day," said McHale, who despite being blocked led the Gophers with 14 points.
Villanova 79, #24 UNLV 78. Villanova likes to play slower, while UNLV likes to speed it up. Villanova, it turned out, did just enough to keep the Rebels from getting the win.
Randy Foye had 20 points and Kyle Lowry blocked Ricky Sobers' last second putback attempt as the Wildcats (8-2) held off the Runnin' Rebels (6-4) to most likely knock the last mid-major out of the Top 25.
"Our backcourt carried this one," Villanova coach Jay Wright said after the game. "We wanted to show that Paul [Arizin] had backup, and that's what we were able to get. Everyone played their role, and we kept this team -- a very good offensive team -- to just enough to take the win.
On the final play, Sobers inbounded to leading scorer Shawn Marion (18 points). His three pointer was off the mark, and in the scramble, Sobers got the loose ball. He tried a quick shot to beat the horn, but Lowry was ready.

#9 Notre Dame 67, #17 DePaul 65, OT. Most of the game was a battle inside. But it was outside shooting from a very unlikely source that won the game.
John Paxson hit two three-pointers late in overtime to lead the Fighting Irish (8-2) to an overtime victory over the Blue Demons (7-3).
"All of our players can contribute," coach Digger Phelps told reporters after the game. "We hear a lot about Adrian Dantley and Bill Laimbeer, but we're a team of stars. We feel we can beat anyone."
With the game tied at 58 nearing the end of regulation, George Mikan looked to have won the game with a hook shot. However, before he could shoot, he was whistled for a three-second violation. Paxson's heroics in overtime then meant the difference.
"I lost track of time," a dejected Mikan said in the locker room. "I'm sorry, Blue Demon fans."
#25 Illinois 66, #19 Georgetown 56. Illinois coach Lou Henson wanted to focus on defense as much as offense. It's safe to say his team was ready to respond.
A focused effort held Allen Iverson scoreless on the day as the Illini (8-2) stunned the Hoyas (7-3) in a defensive struggle with neither team able to get open shots most of the day.
"That's what I was hoping for," Henson said after the game. "We wanted to get our defensive strength before we faced teams like Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota... I think today we showed we can win ugly as well as win beautifully."
Derek Harper, who led all scorers with 17 points, was the primary responsibility, but Iverson found himself constantly double-teamed with Donnie Freeman and Deron Williams. While Iverson did wind up with 9 assists, the shutout clearly bothered him, as he picked up a late technical foul arguing a no-call.
"We need to work on getting Allen involved more," Hoyas coach John Thompson admitted. "You can't just win inside in this game."
Cincinnati 81, #18 LSU 60. Maybe the adjustment from the AAC to the Big XII will be easier than we were led to believe.
Oscar Robertson had a triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists, while Jack Twyman had 21 points as the Bearcats (8-2) stunned everyone by trouncing the Tigers (7-3) in front of the Cats' home fans.
"That was an incredible win," Bearcats coach Ed Jucker said after the game. "They kept talking about their starting five, but today we showed you need a lot of depth to get anywhere. We got that depth and we got a chance to win it all. I hope Kansas is paying attention -- they're not sweeping us this season."
Defense also proved to be a big deal. Robertson and Nick Van Exel constantly switched off on Pete Maravich, holding the scoring machine to only 8 points on the day. Bob Pettit was able to take some advantage to score 17 points, but the Tigers had no help from the bench, as the Cats' bench outscored the Tigers' reserves 21-3.
"Gotta be more than the first five," center Shaquille O'Neal said after the game. "We can only do so much and if one of us is in trouble, we gotta get stepping up."
#15 Southern Cal 78, #16 Maryland 55. Don't sleep on the Trojans now. When they're going against teams in the second and third tier, they are deadly.
Bill Sharman led all scorers with 24 points as the Trojans (8-2) steamrolled the Terrapins (7-3) to make a statement about their goals for this season.
"We think we can steal a Final Four spot," coach Sam Barry said after the game. "Today proved we have the talent to do it. If the shots fall, we can beat anyone."
Gene Shue led the Terrapins with 13 points.
#6 Michigan State 61, #13 Texas 60. The Longhorns seem to be willing to live and die by Kevin Durant. The Spartans knew it when it mattered.
Draymond Green knocked away a pass intended for Durant on the final play of the game to preserve a victory for the Spartans (8-2) over the Longhorns (7-3) on the road in a critical matchup.
"We saw where they were going, we knew they had one big star and if we denied him, we didn't think anyone else could step up," Green said after the game. "I know how to beat Durant, we know how to win the game, and we're just that good."
Magic Johnson had 14 points and 7 assists to lead the Spartans. Durant, for his part, led all scorers with 21 points, but couldn't get the last two, as Avery Bradley's inbound was knocked away.
"Close isn't good enough in crunch time," Durant said to reporters.
NC State 74, #20 Minnesota 65. Last year, the Wolfpack were controversially sent to the NIT despite going 18-14 in the toughest schedule in the country. If they keep winning, they may take it out of the committee's hands when all is said and done.
JJ Hickson had 5 blocks of Kevin McHale on the day and David Thompson scored 20 as the Wolfpack (8-2) stunned the Golden Gophers (7-3) to pick up a road win.
"We deserve to be ranked, and we deserve to be in the [NIBL] tournament," Thompson said after the game. "We've said all year our goal is to be undeniable. If we qualify for selection, we're going to make sure they have to take us. That means winning a lot in non-con, and that's what we're doing."
With Thompson driving and causing collapses of the defense, the outside shooters also had their chances. Spud Webb and Tom Gugliotta hit three three-pointers each over the Gopher defense.
"This was a bad day," said McHale, who despite being blocked led the Gophers with 14 points.
Villanova 79, #24 UNLV 78. Villanova likes to play slower, while UNLV likes to speed it up. Villanova, it turned out, did just enough to keep the Rebels from getting the win.
Randy Foye had 20 points and Kyle Lowry blocked Ricky Sobers' last second putback attempt as the Wildcats (8-2) held off the Runnin' Rebels (6-4) to most likely knock the last mid-major out of the Top 25.
"Our backcourt carried this one," Villanova coach Jay Wright said after the game. "We wanted to show that Paul [Arizin] had backup, and that's what we were able to get. Everyone played their role, and we kept this team -- a very good offensive team -- to just enough to take the win.
On the final play, Sobers inbounded to leading scorer Shawn Marion (18 points). His three pointer was off the mark, and in the scramble, Sobers got the loose ball. He tried a quick shot to beat the horn, but Lowry was ready.

Not exactly sure what I should put here but here we go lol. First off I'm very awkward and shy so I may not talk a whole lot when we first start talking. I think I'm around 182cm tall (not entirely sure lmao) and I have brown hair and eyes. Also I'm pretty skinny I think lol. I don’t drink or smoke. I like to think I can be funny sometimes since I make my friends laugh often , though that might just be because our humour is stupid at this point lol. Also apparently I say lol a lot.

Stand type:「Wild Heart」is a medium range speed/sound type.
Stand appirence:「Wild Heart」is a humanoid stand with baby blue skin that seems to be smooth like silk. The stand wears a checkered patern stylish suit together with a top hat with the same design. The hat covers the stands eyes completely but even if you went near the stand an gry to peak under the hat you would only see pitch black darkness underneath it. This also would make you notice that the stand has an ever present bright, wide smile that is quite creepy because the stand has it even when its kicking someones shit in while yelling its battle cry: "Dance! Dance! DANCE!!" Like a complite mad man.
Stand user: James Patryk Zeppeli (also known to friends as J.P) more about him at the end.
Stand stats: Power: B Speed: A Durability: C Range: C precision: A Potential: B
Stand Abilities: 「Such a Lovely Sound」is the first and also main ability of the「Wild Heart」. It allowes the stand to create sounds and manipulate them or allready existing ones (though in smaller extent) in a radiius of around 100 meters starting froom both J.P and the stand. This means that J.P can make that a sound is louder and booming or more quite and subtle (also it could make that the sound is louder but also more subtle or more quite but also more booming). This can extand to making the sound of a fly that is a 100 meters froom the user and a meter froom your ear as loud as if it was a few minimiters froom your ear, when it comes to existing sounds, but to the ones that J.P or the「Wild Heart」(be it by useing something by the user or the stand just generating sounds out of thin air). For example「Wild Heart」can make the sound of exhailing into a shock wave capable of shattering stone or sending someone flying across the sky. This allows J.P to levitate objects with sound waves, make invisible bariers out of them, manipulate air by useing sound waves to move it to his likeing and many more.
「Creazy Beat」is the secend ability of the 「Wild Heart」that allows it to make music efect people on a psychological level with the restroction that the ealier userof「Such a Lovely Sound」on the music must be performed to enable the use od this ability. This means that if J.P would walk in to a bar that has a radio playing a love song he could make it clearer by useing「Such a Lovely Sound」and than use on it「Creazy Beat」to make people who he wants to effect and who also hear it be more love oriented. This means that people who are in a relationship would be more likely to take another step in it or would think about their significant other if they are away froom them for any reason. They would be also more forgiving look better at relationships in general, be more willing to start a ralationship and many more. More over the effectivnes of the ability is effected by how good was the song performed, how much does the person is against or with the message the song is conveing and also by how much the person likes the song that「Creazy Beat」was used on. Additionaly the ability is also effected by the fact if J.P is the part of the people who are performing the song that「Creazy Beat」is effecting, the best effectivnes being if he is performing with people who are close to him. Aditionaly「Creazy Beat」can be used also in the middle of the battle, that's because J.P is a skilled singer and guitarist that allways has his trusty checkered patern acustic guitar. That is because J.P can play a calming song to calm his allies down so they can think more clearly, or he can play a lulyby that will efect ennemis making them more exousted. This still though has its limita because it only works on people who have a weak will and sucumb to their desieres.
This was everything about the stand and its abilities as of now. If you have any sugestions please do tell me so I can make this as good of a stand for my fan part or more acuratly a re do of Stardust Crusaders where Cesar Zeppeli made an hair to the Zeppelis before his death after being beatten by Wamuu and now two generations leater his grandson James Patryk Zeppeli is going for a grand adventure with his own JoJo like his grandpa did all those years ago with his. So more about J.P's look and who he is. J.P is a 17 year old yound man with dirty blond hair and deep green and blue eye each (he has heterochormia). His mostly wearing a baby blue hoodie (he leater switches it for a baby blue T-shirt) that on top of witch he wears a white jean jacket that fits his black pants and brown boots. He is a half polsih and quarter Italian and american because his father is half polish and italian while his mather is polish and american. Before the start of Stardust Crusaders he was living in his family home in the state of Texas where he was known as the golden boy with quite a wild side to him that is ready and willing to help anybody that asks him for it. He also is talented when it comes to music be it singing playing the guitar, drums or piano and even more importantly he is naturally skilled in the ancient art of hamon. Thanks to the fact that Speedwagon got to know froom Cesar that he could have a son after his death Speedwagon told everything the woman that Cesar had a kid with about the Joestar family, hamon and so on. He even went to the extend of taking someone that can in fact use hamon with him to show that he is not lieing or going creazy. After that Zeppeli family created a familly legend saying that every Zeppeli needs to be ready to help a Joestars to protect the world in their advetures if need be. That's why J.P's father (who is the son of Cesar) was learning hamon with the help of the Speedwagon fundation just in case he was summoned to help mister Joseph or some other JoJo in a quest to save the world froom another great danger or to just protect his family froom dangers that could target them do that they can't help Joestars. That's how J.P got to learn Hamon froom when he was only a baby making him a master in his own right even though he wasn't great at useing hamon offensively. That's because he was naturally skilled at healing people with his hamon to such an extent that he could heal people that had even worst type of injuries like open fractures, severe fevers and so on and so fourth in just a few hours to days if the injury or sickness was very bad. His stand is also perfect for his hamon ability because thanks to it now he can send haon waves through the air and heal with them his allies even if they are far. So he can fight together with Jotaro in the front lines but also heal someone like Kakyoin that stayed at the back helping the out through「Emerald Splash」

Im a film student at university so im a huge film and tv buff my fav directors are Scorsese del toro and lynch and im currently watching through twin peaks! In terms of visual media i also am pretty fond of anime tho not as much as i used to be and ive got a huge soft spot for JoJos and hunter x hunter.
Im a very musically motivated person I listen to a vast variety of music and its something im actually pretty proud of some of my top artists are Prince, smashing pumpkins, Jamiroquai, red hot chili peppers and steely dan. As for genres i listen to old hip hop, dance, house, drum and bass, jazz, rock, and basically everything inbetween. I actually have some festivals and shows booked so it might be cool to bump into someone whos also going!
Im also pretty keen on going to the gym im no beefcake 3000 but im starting to get into habits that are being really good for my physical and mental health.
Besides all that i like reading, playing guitar, working, having fun basically. Im not a huge drinker but i will if i have to. Im medically prescribed cannabis which i only use at night for sleep.

She laid playfully in the grass, having changed to a sundress at some point, and off in the distance, Midori and Seymour could be seen downright giddy at the ecological significance of the giant garden, at the history literally taken root there, at the fact that she had been granted special permissions to tend to the place and, alongside Ninian and Electra, filter which outsiders were even allowed to lay eyes upon this place. It seemed thanks enough for saving the town above from the tragedy that had overtaken it, anyway.
“Don’t worry ‘bout it! Like I said, I wanted to make sure this place was pristine for ya for when the big mission’s all done. Anything short of a complete success would’ve made me a bad friend!”

Electra had been standing in the distance, attempting to seem cool and aloof while thankful most couldn’t see the small grin on her face at the sight of Midori’s giddiness. Hearing her name called again snapped her out of her self-satisfied haze, reveling in the feeling of having taken out a no-good bastard like Vasundhara Astley and given a thumbs-up by an arrogant bastard like Aristizábal de los Flores.
“Oh, huh? I was paying attention.”
That got a laugh out of Dédalo. “Right…Anyway, Ninian sought you out personally for this, yeah? And you delivered when it got even hairier than expected…A plus-one like that would do some real good helping me close out this chapter. Would you be interested?”
“What?” Electra tilted her head. “You barely know me, and…where the hell is this coming from? Last time I went on an archaeology trip I had to deal with this freak.” She gestured at Ninian, but she, Dédalo, and Ninian all knew she was really pointing to the desert spirit occupying her body. Pausing, then, she added, “…kinda sudden, is all. Can I have a minute?”
“Yeah, sure. I guess I’ll know your answer based on if Ninian shows up with you or not.”
“Don’t wanna totally monopolize her, yeah. Let’s talk it out in the morning, Electra, yeah? Too nice a part of Sicily not to at least spend a day where we can…Things’re about to start coming to a head very fast, an’ even I can’t be sure what that looks like.”
There was much unsaid there that had been on Ninian’s mind. Errok was still poisoning the very company she had helped Dr. Taylor found, and he had already seen Pieduro tech as one possible tool in his ‘kill the soul’ mission. Electra had fended him off once—with help, albeit—and, she thought, could certainly do it again if he tried something there of all places…
Knowing Oliver, Barcas would definitely end up sending someone on this mission, with or without Dédalo and the House of Muses’ permission, and it was 50/50 whether it was the worst-case scenario, or the only person he trusted besides Midori at that company who was present.
Electra, though? Electra let herself relax at the question, at the prospect of a day spent enjoying San Battista, adored as a hero, alongside…New friends.

The results are in for Match 4. The winner is…
Slowly, painfully, Val unpeeled herself from the ground and propped herself up with her sword. A thick layer of gravel and brick dust coated the ruined construction site alongside countless fragments of crates and girders. The armored truck had been blown to smithereens, its contents reduced to ashes as well. Valentine sucked a breath of air through her teeth and made a mental note to pick up an apology gift for Aisha on the way home.
The door of one of the nearby portapotties swung open, revealing her opponent brushing gallons of hand sanitizer from her hands and arms. With a pained grunt, Valentine rose to her feet, dusted herself off, and made her way over to her android assailant.
Seeing the manager of the Eight Melodies approach, 2095 sniffed sharply and hurriedly wiped her reddened eyes. When she got close enough, she smiled as wide as her face could physically allow and stuck out a hand.
”My name is 2095. It’s such an honor to meet you!”
Val laughed and took her hand. “Val Yao, but I think you knew that already. Nice work out there. Haven’t taken a beating like that since my leave of absence.”
“Thank you,” 2095 beamed. “I, uh, hope I didn’t hurt you too badly.”
“Nah, I’ve been through worse.” Valentine looked at the smoking, burning wreckage of the armored truck and grimaced. “Yeesh. Rinascita’s gonna be real pissed when they hear about this.”
2095 glanced past Val’s shoulder. “Perhaps you can ask them now.”
Val turned around to see someone she recognized from the Olympus Gala—except her appearance now as a far cry from her extravagance back then. Leaning against a wall for support, battered and bloodied, Lucetta Domani looked like she had been through Hell and back. Her coat was completely gone, exposing deep gashes and wounds on her bare shoulders. Whole locks of her luxurious hair were singed off. One arm was limp at her side and bent at an awkward angle, while the other still held her trademark sunglasses—one lens shattered, the other completely covered by a spiderweb crack, rendering it useless.
Lucetta stared at the wreckage of the truck, then at 2095 and Valentine. “It’s done?”
2095 nodded. “Scrap metal, as requested.”
She gave both a curt nod; an uncharacteristically subtle gesture. She gazed down at the ruined pair of sunglasses in her hand.
“I used to paint, once. Watercolors—landscapes, mostly. I gave it up when I got my first apprenticeship; the paint would stain my hands and transfer to the clothes. When I became head of Rinascits, the artists would send me thousands of watercolors every month for me to approve for sale. But I actually haven’t touched a brush since. Imagine that; Lucetta Domani, fashion icon and international superstar, painting like a high school art student. I’d be the laughingstock of Rinascita!”
Her laughter was cut off by a painful cough. “...I should try it again some time. Just for myself.”
“The painter is not simply someone who looks and who sees. Above all, the artist is someone who exposes a personal vision by rendering it visible. Today is a victory over ‘villains’ everywhere. My masterpiece! Signed, Domani.” Without another word, Lucetta tossed her sunglasses over her shoulder and limped away.
“...guess I’m in the clear?” Val wondered aloud, watching her go. “I don’t think the Czar’s coming out of there any time soon, so…time to take my leave.”
“Oh, my autograph-” 2095 blurted out, then put a hand over her mouth and kicked herself internally. But instead of glaring at her, Val chuckled.
“I would, but I don’t have a pen right now. Don’t worry—I’ll send you a care package when I can. Thanks for all of your support!”
The ceremony floor was rather vacant at this time of day. Most of the staff had gone home, leaving only a few stragglers to finish up the paperwork. Sitting in the front pew was one of these planners, seated across from a disheveled, shaggy-headed Lucas Rayard.
He looked over a series of forms, taking a pen to each one as he flipped through them with a tired pace. After one more lookover, he handed them back to the planner, who was glancing at her watch every so often. “Are these conditions to your liking, sir?”
“Yes, that’ll do,” Lucas Rayard said with a wave of his hand. With a nod, she left, leaving Lucas hunched over in his pew. He fiddled with a match from his pocket, staring at the match head as a series of thoughts ran through his head. Though it’s not like he had much of a choice.
It didn’t feel real. It seemed like only yesterday that Darius had revealed its true nature to Lucas and Nicholas. The day the Global Cinders Surveillance Co. was founded. Together, they would solve the mysteries of the world, bring closure and relief to countless people. All three of them.
The sudden thud beside him brought Lucas back to reality. He snapped the matchstick in half, as he laser focused on whatever just landed at his side. With a frown, he stuffed the remains of the stick in his jacket pocket.
It was Nicholas Conlan, with his hands on a stack of manilla folders wrapped in brown string. He too had seen better days, but there was something different about him. Lucas shot a brief nod to his partner as he turned his gaze back towards the casket ahead.
Nick frowned. “Well ‘hello’ to you, too…”
After a moment of silence, Nick took the folders and pushed them forward, right into Lucas’ side. Lucas ignored it, but Nicholas continued to push them. Lucas’ eye twitched with each blow, until finally he turned. “Would you cut that out?!”
“I gave you your space. We both needed it, but it's been three weeks! Are you still not going to talk to me about this?”
Lucas glared at the thief, gripping the bottom of the pew. He tried to come up with some witty retort. All he could do was weakly exhale. “What’s there to talk about…”
“The doc’s dead, man!” Nicholas said as he gripped the bridge of his nose. “And here you are, sulking. That’s not the Lucas I know.” Lucas blinked, but ultimately remained still. “I miss Darius too. But I haven’t been lying around, waiting for it to come back.”
“That’s not what I-” The shaggy-haired investigator was interrupted with a single file shoved into his face: a picture of a bulky figure in pale green armor, accompanied by a haunting mask that practically taunted Lucas.
Looking over to Nicholas, his eyes opened up wider than they had been in weeks. “Is this-where did you-”
“Don’t ask.” Nicholas remarked as he flipped open another file. “What’s important is what’s in them: Names, Last Known Locations, Potential Enemies…” He counted each one on his fingers. “Even if it’s a deadend, this could at least get us back on track…”
Lucas crossed his arms, looking away from the thief once more. “I don’t know...”
“C’mon! We’ve already tracked down Aerials! What’s one job compared to a bunch of flighty birds?”
“We had a full team on that,” Lucas shot back, his face falling to a slump. “It’s not the same. It never will be.”
Nicholas leaned back, his eyes drooping to the floor. “You’re right,” he sighed. “We’ll never be able to go back to volleyball games and high speed boat chases. We may never get the chance to go to another beach wedding, or round up unruly demons in the name of catching that bird-brained fool.”
He looked back up at Lucas, whose eyes were still glued to the ground. He offered a gente smile. “But isn’t that what life is all about? Forming memories, forging bonds?” Nick leaned in closer, putting a hand on the investigator’s shoulder. “Even if those days are behind us, you can never take away our memories. We proved that, right?”
Lucas looked up in disbelief. He could hardly believe that the man in front of him was the same slacker he’d met almost a year ago. Nick’s eyes were no longer filled with sloth, instead a calm, steady flame of determination.
Lucas let out a hoarse chuckle, tears threatening to leak from his eyes. He couldn’t help but be reminded of his own youthful drive. After wiping away the few tears that managed to break through, Lucas placed his own hand onto Nicholas’ shoulder. “Yes, I suppose we did.”
Nicholas grinned as he stood up from the pew, taking a file in hand. “How about we crack open a new case, then?”
Lucas shook his head. “With what resources? The Cinders’ in shambles right now.”
“But not dead! We still have Phil and Lily around to help.”
“Maybe so, but we’ll need more than that to keep us afloat…”
“—I might be able to help with that.”
Both investigators stopped in their tracks upon hearing the sudden, yet familiar voice. The figure approached the boys in the pew. “I heard about a potential opening from Darius, you know before …er, sorry…”
Evelyn Lister sheepishly gripped their arm. Nicholas leaned over to Lucas as he whispered something into his ear. Lucas cocked his eyebrow as he rubbed his chin. He whispered something back to Nicholas, causing him to do the same.
Evelyn's eyes sank. Had she said something wrong? Was she overstepping? Finally, Nicholas let out a decisive hum. “You’re in!” he smiled towards Evelyn. “Welcome to the Global Cinders Surveillance Co!”
At last, the crackling flames hushed into ashes. The only sound in the barren woods was laboured breathing. Curled in a hidden corner, Alalu tended to her many wounds. It was fortunate that Frederick hadn’t been able to finish her, nor had he destroyed her hidden stash of Prestige. Though, she wasn’t fool enough to eat it. Alalu did not aspire to some false godhood. These flowers would simply grant her a few more moments.*
It was a shame; Alalu hated Frederick’s ego, but admired his tenacity. She had seen it from the start, how he hid his righteous fury beneath a smile. Alalu was glad to see him follow his desire, yet she did not believe in his world. God stayed in heaven for a reason.
It was easy for her to reminisce in the silence. She had nothing else to do, other than wait and listen to the rasp of her breath and the dripping of blood, as ｢Wolf Murder｣’s hand slid over her own.
“Thank you, love…” Alalu whispered, regarding her stand with a smile. “What a battle. You fought beautifully.”
“I PROMISED YOU. TOOTH AND NAIL.”
Alalu simply laughed. “Sit with me, Cennet.” Her little pet name, it had a better ring than ‘Commit’. “The fight is over now.”
｢Wolf Murder｣ did as she was asked, resting on her remaining leg.
“What do you think about the Exhibition?”
”THEY ARE BEASTS. EVEN NOW, ATROCITIES LIVE WITHIN THEM.”
“But you are wrong, Cennet,” Alalu chuckled, tasting blood beneath her tongue. “The era of beasts is ending. I always thought Savvas was posturing. But maybe he was right about all those myths and legends. Hawheheh…it’s not like ‘Alalu’ was ever above them.”
‘Cennet’ wiped away the blood beaded on Alalu’s lips, only to paint them with her own.
“That doesn’t mean I’ll call these folks God, but they're more than simple beasts like us. Though there were exceptions in the Exhibition. The ones who vanished quickly enough.”
“A SIGN OF THEIR WEAKNESS.”
“Maybe. It was a shame about Lucille, I was fond of her. But Veles was never going to take her alive. If only that old fool let me catch the Pgoslav.”
She chuckled. “The Exhibition was full of demons. Some hid their nature better than others, O’Santos in particular. But that boy would have torn the Mediterranean apart just to escape us. Yet these urges were tempered by others. He’s not even the only one who changed. Maybe love is its own miracle?” Alalu laughed.
“Look how sappy I’ve grown in my old age. It’s sad we couldn’t catch the miracle, but better Marione get with a girl her age than pursue me.”
”THOSE WEAKLINGS ABANDONED OUR PACK.”
“All but one,” Alalu smiled, hearing footsteps in the cabin outside. The fact she could hear his approach meant he was panicking. This was confirmed when the knob was torn from the rotting wood around it. The door was flung open, and…
“Veles,” Alalu rasped. He looked even worse than before, his cloak in tatters, revealing that the spectral flesh had nearly consumed his arms. His socket eyes were wild with dancing light.
“…” He could only shudder, ink trailing from his eyes.
Alalu filled the silence in his stead. “You didn’t return with Mx. Wah…and yet their scent is all over you. I wish you wouldn’t disappoint me like this, dear. But I understand…no one can refuse Madam Yaga’s summons. I’m not mad, Veles. I’m just happy you finally showed up.”
｢Wolf Murder｣ loomed behind Alalu, bracing herself on the wall, blade gleaming…before she fell to her knee, head bowed.
”THE ERA OF BEASTS IS ENDING. THE NEW AGE APPROACHES. YOU SHALL LEAD IT.”
He took a step back, startled by the words, looking to Alalu.
“I couldn’t defeat Frederick without you. Once the Collection hears of my injuries, many will try to take my spot. I am dead already, Veles. But you will be my successor.”
His eyes widened. Speechless.
“Isn’t this what you want, dear? You understand the Collection’s purpose…and how it can achieve your own.”
Before he could respond, Cennet growled out a command. “KNEEL.”
His shaking legs buckled instantly. As he looked Alalu in her remaining eye, she smiled kindly. “You’ll be perfect, Veles. But…not everyone sees that. Because of your bonds with our enemies, you’ll gain more resentment than respect. But it will be alright…you just need to give them a show of strength, and prove you aren’t distracted by our foes. I know you can. You are the strongest beast of all.”
He continued to shudder, ink now seeping from his nose and mouth. The hunger in his eyes brought Alalu joy.
“Now, let my life nourish yours.” Bowing her head, she reached into his coat and pulled out his switchblade, placing it in his talons.
“…” What more could he say? What choice did he have?
“Make me proud,” she whispered. These would be her last words, before her breath and blood emptied from her throat.
In the ashes of her empire, the wolf’s remains are eaten by the crow. All while its murder waits and watches.
The age of beasts is over. This is the beginning of the end.
“Right here’s fine, thank you!” Val tapped the pilot’s shoulder as she opened the skydiving plane’s door. None of this had been up to code—the woman came into his business like a whirlwind, gave him coordinates to fly to, and skydive above open water, and now she was about to base jump without a parachute.
“Miss, I don’t think that’s safe!”
The sea breeze whipping through her hair, Val’s laugh boomed louder than the engine. “Of course it is—I’m a professional!”
Already leaning out of the plane, Val let go of the handles, falling towards the ocean. Valerie, Valentine, Val Yao—she was what she had always been: a star, a bolt of purple streaking against the clear sky. The salty sea air flushed the acrid smoke of Rinascita’s infighting from her nostrils and lungs, and Val felt her heart skip beats—a calm hammering. Adrenaline flooding through a body that was not in panic, but making calculated and thoughtful movements, to stave off or speed up her descent.
Despite all the turmoil of the Dead Drop Bay, of the storms and seas, she could see it; she could see the same, serene blue that she painted during her odyssey and now colored the sky and world around her. As she approached terminal velocity where all felt still, the wild winds caressed her, and she felt like she could be here forever. Heart-pounding peace.
Suddenly, she twisted her body, pointing her gunsword upwards. “We’re on in ten, ｢Hiero Oldies｣!” One fairy possessed their manager, another the loaded bullet which was fired upwards, Val’s descent coming to crawl as the countervailing forces suspended her in a dance of physics.
She somersaulted in the air, gingerly landing upon the upper deck of the Jellyfish Skyquarium. The blimp had acted as one part tourbus, one part mobile office, all parts home for the Eight Melodies who politely applauded their manager. Jerry had struggled mightily to get them all in one place. Ravee, Finni, and Eshe were still idols, but Haru had looked to start his own investigation business; Jerry the Dog was on vacation; Echo and Nadine were still unreachable, but at least they could come together for this.
Val rushed through them, slapping backs and giving high fives, before heading to the bridge where Aisha stood. Val’s smile faltered for a moment, “I’m sorry I-”
Aisha pressed a finger to her lips and shook her head. “Boohoo, I’m out of the running for FtK head over a glorified laser pointer—this is your moment now. What are we here for?”
“Right.” With a quick hug and steeling of her resolve, Val turned to face the rest of her crew. “I might not be as active in production, but I’m still the manager of Eight Melodies, and no matter where we go, its light shines in our hearts! Alas, our work is never done. We’re going to need somewhere a lot bigger with what we’re planning! A concert hall—no, a stadium—no, an entire city plaza! We’re artists, dammit, and we need somewhere with a capacity big enough for all our friends to celebrate!”
The idols were going their own ways, and just had Val had started this whirlwind venture, she too would chart out her next one. She took the steering wheel, checked the map, and with the might of a thousand ships, the blimp adjusted its course for Bordeaux where a world of endless adventure awaited. If you thought the Jellyfish Skyquarium was a ride, you haven’t seen nothing yet! “Next stop: Yaoworld!”
As the Eight Melodies cheered their captain, a similarly free spirit leaned against the port window. This hadn’t been the first airship Al had crashed into, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last—this one didn’t even need guidance on where to go! So long as people continued to sail the earth, sea, and now sky, there would always be something to do and somewhere to be.
With a satisfied smile, they dissipated into grains of sand that scattered into the morning sun.

From here on out, instead of the usual match select, the Judges will pair the players into two semifinal matches whose winners move on to the final match. Before too long, one too many branches to the head in the garden she had sought to plunder had struck Dr. Vasundhara Astley, stuck underneath her impenetrable skin as it was torn away to fight back. The more angrily, the more aggressively she fought, the more desperate not for this to be the end, the more certain it had been.“…oh, cool! You had me worried leading with the bad news like that, but it sounds like all was well that ended well…You said there were zombies out there, though? I kinda wish I’d been able to make it…”
After a certain point, attacked from above as she tried to strike her younger opponents, something cracked. When she fell onto her Golden Beacon-made floor shining above Electra and Aristi, her tendril-fingers went limp, and she didn’t get up again.
As if this barely even mattered, the two who had come to stop her continued their bouts, the Rudisimo standing in a ring of light amidst a sea of inky, righteous black.
Though by then the end result was inevitable, and as far as he knew, only Electra was there to see it, he fought on as though the world was watching, never relenting until he was unable to stand.
Here, an institution of the old era died, and the bold heel of the present saw the glistening, potential-filled darkness of the future. He could barely move, needing to be taken to medical attention, but Electra Heart saw him laughing, heard him wish her well and tell her that this was not the end of him, made her promise that this was nowhere near her peak. He had been defeated once before—also by a much younger contender—and these losses filled him with pride. Those who would inherit the world were strong as hell in their own way, and when he was that old ghoul’s age, he had no goddamn intention of slowing down or losing to any of them. He knew he would be challenged for as long as he lived, and thrived on it.
Wouldn’t be surprising if some Black Market-aligned types trying to jump ship from EEP made this virus someone else’s problem again, or some bastard made something like it happen again, but if that happens…The people of this region are already building something. This world’s more aware than ever! Just think, a secret garden kept guarded for millennia, and now it’s been breached, outsiders know it! I just hope that we can ride these winds of change to a better future.

She laid playfully in the grass, having changed to a sundress at some point, and off in the distance, Midori and Seymour could be seen downright giddy at the ecological significance of the giant garden, at the history literally taken root there, at the fact that she had been granted special permissions to tend to the place and, alongside Ninian and Electra, filter which outsiders were even allowed to lay eyes upon this place. It seemed thanks enough for saving the town above from the tragedy that had overtaken it, anyway.

Her coat was completely gone, exposing deep gashes and wounds on her bare shoulders. Whole locks of her luxurious hair were singed off. One arm was limp at her side and bent at an awkward angle, while the other still held her trademark sunglasses—one lens shattered, the other completely covered by a spiderweb crack, rendering it useless.
Lucetta stared at the wreckage of the truck, then at 2095 and Valentine. “It’s done?”
2095 nodded. “Scrap metal, as requested.”
She gave both a curt nod; an uncharacteristically subtle gesture. She gazed down at the ruined pair of sunglasses in her hand.
“I used to paint, once. Watercolors—landscapes, mostly. I gave it up when I got my first apprenticeship; the paint would stain my hands and transfer to the clothes. When I became head of Rinascits, the artists would send me thousands of watercolors every month for me to approve for sale. But I actually haven’t touched a brush since. Imagine that; Lucetta Domani, fashion icon and international superstar, painting like a high school art student. I’d be the laughingstock of Rinascita!”
Her laughter was cut off by a painful cough. “...I should try it again some time. Just for myself.”
“The painter is not simply someone who looks and who sees. Above all, the artist is someone who exposes a personal vision by rendering it visible. Today is a victory over ‘villains’ everywhere. My masterpiece! Signed, Domani.” Without another word, Lucetta tossed her sunglasses over her shoulder and limped away.
“...guess I’m in the clear?” Val wondered aloud, watching her go. “I don’t think the Czar’s coming out of there any time soon, so…time to take my leave.”
“Oh, my autograph-” 2095 blurted out, then put a hand over her mouth and kicked herself internally. But instead of glaring at her, Val chuckled.
“I would, but I don’t have a pen right now. Don’t worry—I’ll send you a care package when I can. Thanks for all of your support!”

7th Place - Bohdan Paska - This clever salesman had big plans, but a chance encounter with a fortune-teller on the Nile showed that his success was not written in the stars.
6th Place - Rigatte Rosso - Hired as security on a gay pirate beach wedding, he met his match when a self-made matchmaker elected to sabotage the occasion.
5th Place - Lincoln Duncan - The old Boxer quickly encountered some friction against a idol manager when they both chose to investigate the same archaeological site.
4th Place - Texas Holdem - This gambler found great success smuggling cargo for Dead Man's Hand, but his luck ran out in a fishing competition against a COLOSSI enforcer.
3rd Place - Lucas Rayard - After his loss on the Nile with Bohdan, Lucas played in a high-energy volleyball game that brought his team and Blue Top Antiquity together on a well-deserved beach vacation. However, his next cross-team collaboration went a little worse, when he and the Hundred-Head Voyage failed to take down Farewell to Kings' Ilar Opeth.
2nd Place - Nicholas Conlan - This Smooth Criminal opened his run smuggling goods alongside Texas and playing volleyball with Lucas. This was followed by an intriguing deal with Jamir Ó Santos and a jinn at a teleporting gas station. His run ended as it began, running a mission for Dead Man's Hand in exchange for help dealing with Aerials.
1st Place - SAD - The Melancholic Silver Knight and Doctor Without Borders was yet another member of the team who developed an unease alliance with Dead Man's Hand, helping them catch an unruly demon to start. This was followed by an encounter with the infamous Manny Elflad at a Pieduron archaeological site, and a return to dealings with Dead Man's Hand, this time taking down their then-leader. This was followed by a mission deep into the bowels of Enyalius and Enyo's disturbing P-Virus experiments. SAD ultimately met its match at the culmination of all these themes, battling out EEP's own rotten knight, Errok, when the two were both hired to deal with a similarly mutated figure in Frederick and a similarly concerning underworld leader in Alalu.
The ceremony floor was rather vacant at this time of day. Most of the staff had gone home, leaving only a few stragglers to finish up the paperwork. Sitting in the front pew was one of these planners, seated across from a disheveled, shaggy-headed Lucas Rayard.
He looked over a series of forms, taking a pen to each one as he flipped through them with a tired pace. After one more lookover, he handed them back to the planner, who was glancing at her watch every so often. “Are these conditions to your liking, sir?”
“Yes, that’ll do,” Lucas Rayard said with a wave of his hand. With a nod, she left, leaving Lucas hunched over in his pew. He fiddled with a match from his pocket, staring at the match head as a series of thoughts ran through his head. Though it’s not like he had much of a choice.
It didn’t feel real. It seemed like only yesterday that Darius had revealed its true nature to Lucas and Nicholas. The day the Global Cinders Surveillance Co. was founded. Together, they would solve the mysteries of the world, bring closure and relief to countless people. All three of them.
The sudden thud beside him brought Lucas back to reality. He snapped the matchstick in half, as he laser focused on whatever just landed at his side. With a frown, he stuffed the remains of the stick in his jacket pocket.
It was Nicholas Conlan, with his hands on a stack of manilla folders wrapped in brown string. He too had seen better days, but there was something different about him. Lucas shot a brief nod to his partner as he turned his gaze back towards the casket ahead.
Nick frowned. “Well ‘hello’ to you, too…”
After a moment of silence, Nick took the folders and pushed them forward, right into Lucas’ side. Lucas ignored it, but Nicholas continued to push them. Lucas’ eye twitched with each blow, until finally he turned. “Would you cut that out?!”
“I gave you your space. We both needed it, but it's been three weeks! Are you still not going to talk to me about this?”
Lucas glared at the thief, gripping the bottom of the pew. He tried to come up with some witty retort. All he could do was weakly exhale. “What’s there to talk about…”
“The doc’s dead, man!” Nicholas said as he gripped the bridge of his nose. “And here you are, sulking. That’s not the Lucas I know.” Lucas blinked, but ultimately remained still. “I miss Darius too. But I haven’t been lying around, waiting for it to come back.”
“That’s not what I-” The shaggy-haired investigator was interrupted with a single file shoved into his face: a picture of a bulky figure in pale green armor, accompanied by a haunting mask that practically taunted Lucas.
Looking over to Nicholas, his eyes opened up wider than they had been in weeks. “Is this-where did you-”
“Don’t ask.” Nicholas remarked as he flipped open another file. “What’s important is what’s in them: Names, Last Known Locations, Potential Enemies…” He counted each one on his fingers. “Even if it’s a deadend, this could at least get us back on track…”
Lucas crossed his arms, looking away from the thief once more. “I don’t know...”
“C’mon! We’ve already tracked down Aerials! What’s one job compared to a bunch of flighty birds?”
“We had a full team on that,” Lucas shot back, his face falling to a slump. “It’s not the same. It never will be.”
Nicholas leaned back, his eyes drooping to the floor. “You’re right,” he sighed. “We’ll never be able to go back to volleyball games and high speed boat chases. We may never get the chance to go to another beach wedding, or round up unruly demons in the name of catching that bird-brained fool.”
He looked back up at Lucas, whose eyes were still glued to the ground. He offered a gente smile. “But isn’t that what life is all about? Forming memories, forging bonds?” Nick leaned in closer, putting a hand on the investigator’s shoulder. “Even if those days are behind us, you can never take away our memories. We proved that, right?”
Lucas looked up in disbelief. He could hardly believe that the man in front of him was the same slacker he’d met almost a year ago. Nick’s eyes were no longer filled with sloth, instead a calm, steady flame of determination.
Lucas let out a hoarse chuckle, tears threatening to leak from his eyes. He couldn’t help but be reminded of his own youthful drive. After wiping away the few tears that managed to break through, Lucas placed his own hand onto Nicholas’ shoulder. “Yes, I suppose we did.”
Nicholas grinned as he stood up from the pew, taking a file in hand. “How about we crack open a new case, then?”
Lucas shook his head. “With what resources? The Cinders’ in shambles right now.”
“But not dead! We still have Phil and Lily around to help.”
“Maybe so, but we’ll need more than that to keep us afloat…”
“—I might be able to help with that.”
Both investigators stopped in their tracks upon hearing the sudden, yet familiar voice. The figure approached the boys in the pew. “I heard about a potential opening from Darius, you know before …er, sorry…”
Evelyn Lister sheepishly gripped their arm. Nicholas leaned over to Lucas as he whispered something into his ear. Lucas cocked his eyebrow as he rubbed his chin. He whispered something back to Nicholas, causing him to do the same.
Evelyn's eyes sank. Had she said something wrong? Was she overstepping? Finally, Nicholas let out a decisive hum. “You’re in!” he smiled towards Evelyn. “Welcome to the Global Cinders Surveillance Co!”

8th Place - Marione - While she lost her first match, a Who's Next Tomb Raid Race against HHV's intrepid explorer, her story was only beginning, her remaining arc resulting in a number of exciting matches and moments throughout the rest of the tourney thus far!Scenario: Outside of Istanbul, Turkiye — 2:12 AM
7th Place - Elliot - The monk met his match against an arms-dealing duo backstage at a Milan fashion show.
6th Place - Dr. Lucille Lister - Her sole match was the same as Elliot's, but like Marione, she warrants special note for the lasting legacy she had in the tournament, with her daughter Evelyn becoming a major mover and shaker as her own dead remains became a dangerous Pgoslav... 5th Place - Marissa Novaya - This awkward explosives expert bumbled her way into incredible success while infiltrating a pit crew at Circuit Paul Ricard, but then faced the one who turned out to be the master of bumbling his way to victory when caught in a comedic assassination competition set by a resurrective immortal.
4th Place - Frederick Loverman - The Senator in charge of the Exhibition opened with a crowd-pleasing display at an outdoor market, but met his demise at the hands of Gishimmar the Devourer in Algeria. What returned from that encounter carried with it consequences for some time to come, which we've seen is a trend among the members of Zverska Izložba.
3rd Place - Dirty Ghost - While it initially lost its match at the hands of the perfect Spin (in all but name) in a Moroccan casbah, this revenant couldn't be kept down forever, and made a return at an XPLICIT Xperiment. Ultimately, after a journey of self-discovery, Nobody went home..
2nd Place - Jamir Ó Santos - This dealmaking smoothtalker made it clear from the beginning that he was playing by his own rules, debuting as the undisputed life of the party at an Ibiza rave. He doubled down on this with a clean victory in "New York City". If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. This dealmaker was always on the job, making allies even as he defeated them at a teleporting gas station. Even his final bow was made on his own terms, showing an android the way of passion as they both made a fool of a Rinascita assassin.
1st Place - Izuru Boniface Marianas - The Nobody Killer started his arc as a stagehand, assisting Jamir in performances in Ibiza and “New York City”, before allying with the Melancholic Silver Knight against the head of Dead Man’s Hand. His search for an end to his own immortality lead to continued work with the demonic gang, returning to his roots as a hitman against a DMH defector and performing for the Baba Yaga herself. While the curtain closes on his and his team’s run in the tournament, the show must go on...
At last, the crackling flames hushed into ashes. The only sound in the barren woods was laboured breathing. Curled in a hidden corner, Alalu tended to her many wounds. It was fortunate that Frederick hadn’t been able to finish her, nor had he destroyed her hidden stash of Prestige. Though, she wasn’t fool enough to eat it. Alalu did not aspire to some false godhood. These flowers would simply grant her a few more moments.*
It was a shame; Alalu hated Frederick’s ego, but admired his tenacity. She had seen it from the start, how he hid his righteous fury beneath a smile. Alalu was glad to see him follow his desire, yet she did not believe in his world. God stayed in heaven for a reason.
It was easy for her to reminisce in the silence. She had nothing else to do, other than wait and listen to the rasp of her breath and the dripping of blood, as ｢Wolf Murder｣’s hand slid over her own.
“Thank you, love…” Alalu whispered, regarding her stand with a smile. “What a battle. You fought beautifully.”
“I PROMISED YOU. TOOTH AND NAIL.”
Alalu simply laughed. “Sit with me, Cennet.” Her little pet name, it had a better ring than ‘Commit’. “The fight is over now.”
｢Wolf Murder｣ did as she was asked, resting on her remaining leg.
“What do you think about the Exhibition?”
”THEY ARE BEASTS. EVEN NOW, ATROCITIES LIVE WITHIN THEM.”
“But you are wrong, Cennet,” Alalu chuckled, tasting blood beneath her tongue. “The era of beasts is ending. I always thought Savvas was posturing. But maybe he was right about all those myths and legends. Hawheheh…it’s not like ‘Alalu’ was ever above them.”
‘Cennet’ wiped away the blood beaded on Alalu’s lips, only to paint them with her own.
“That doesn’t mean I’ll call these folks God, but they're more than simple beasts like us. Though there were exceptions in the Exhibition. The ones who vanished quickly enough.”
“A SIGN OF THEIR WEAKNESS.”
“Maybe. It was a shame about Lucille, I was fond of her. But Veles was never going to take her alive. If only that old fool let me catch the Pgoslav.”
She chuckled. “The Exhibition was full of demons. Some hid their nature better than others, O’Santos in particular. But that boy would have torn the Mediterranean apart just to escape us. Yet these urges were tempered by others. He’s not even the only one who changed. Maybe love is its own miracle?” Alalu laughed.
“Look how sappy I’ve grown in my old age. It’s sad we couldn’t catch the miracle, but better Marione get with a girl her age than pursue me.”
”THOSE WEAKLINGS ABANDONED OUR PACK.”
“All but one,” Alalu smiled, hearing footsteps in the cabin outside. The fact she could hear his approach meant he was panicking. This was confirmed when the knob was torn from the rotting wood around it. The door was flung open, and…
“Veles,” Alalu rasped. He looked even worse than before, his cloak in tatters, revealing that the spectral flesh had nearly consumed his arms. His socket eyes were wild with dancing light.
“…” He could only shudder, ink trailing from his eyes.
Alalu filled the silence in his stead. “You didn’t return with Mx. Wah…and yet their scent is all over you. I wish you wouldn’t disappoint me like this, dear. But I understand…no one can refuse Madam Yaga’s summons. I’m not mad, Veles. I’m just happy you finally showed up.”
｢Wolf Murder｣ loomed behind Alalu, bracing herself on the wall, blade gleaming…before she fell to her knee, head bowed.
”THE ERA OF BEASTS IS ENDING. THE NEW AGE APPROACHES. YOU SHALL LEAD IT.”
He took a step back, startled by the words, looking to Alalu.
“I couldn’t defeat Frederick without you. Once the Collection hears of my injuries, many will try to take my spot. I am dead already, Veles. But you will be my successor.”
His eyes widened. Speechless.
“Isn’t this what you want, dear? You understand the Collection’s purpose…and how it can achieve your own.”
Before he could respond, Cennet growled out a command. “KNEEL.”
His shaking legs buckled instantly. As he looked Alalu in her remaining eye, she smiled kindly. “You’ll be perfect, Veles. But…not everyone sees that. Because of your bonds with our enemies, you’ll gain more resentment than respect. But it will be alright…you just need to give them a show of strength, and prove you aren’t distracted by our foes. I know you can. You are the strongest beast of all.”
He continued to shudder, ink now seeping from his nose and mouth. The hunger in his eyes brought Alalu joy.
“Now, let my life nourish yours.” Bowing her head, she reached into his coat and pulled out his switchblade, placing it in his talons.
“…” What more could he say? What choice did he have?
“Make me proud,” she whispered. These would be her last words, before her breath and blood emptied from her throat.
In the ashes of her empire, the wolf’s remains are eaten by the crow. All while its murder waits and watches.
The age of beasts is over. This is the beginning of the end.

8th Place: Haru Okubo - This intrepid reporter kicked off the tourney working security in a Croatian Shipyard, and while his smuggling foes got past him, Haru's story certainly wasn't over.Scenario: Somewhere above the Mediterranean Sea — 8:45 AM
7th and 6th Place: Finni Angelos and Eshe Senme - These two feline-loving idols put in good work on the Cyprian isle of cats, but no one can truly outdo the BOYS.
5th Place: Jerry Bryant - Alongside Haru, Jerry dealt with smugglers in Croatian shipyard, but he received a second chance in the form of an Algerian Temple Run, where he was outpaced by a biologist and her carnivorous Stand.
4th Place: Ravee Chandra Bequasimodo - Eight Melodies' security expert found herself caught in a snowboarding avalanche early on, tying the semifinalist Electra Heart in that battle, but her next bout was less lucky: the thing is, Red Barchetta always wins.
3rd Place: Echo - This dimension-hopping tourney veteran made her debut as ‘Echo’ by standing up to big boiz Aristi and Futura, demonstrating why it was really her who was truly Da Bes >B]. Unfortunately, an art heist gone wrong resulted in a traumatic fusion into Pollyanna, prompting Echo to take a step back from the spotlight.
2nd Place: Nadine Sokenna - The other half of Pollyanna got her start turning olive oil production to overdrive, and the fusion battle wasn't the end of her run. A mission to subdue a Pgoslav revealed unexpected bloodlust, and finally a desert duel forced the overly positive idol to confront her negative feelings.
1st place: Val Yao - Last but not least, we have the idols' fearless manager herself! Kicking things off with a treasure dig against Lincoln Duncan, she followed this up with an iconic appearance at a cook-out hosted by the Mediterranean's most dangerous groupchat, where she caught the eye of their social chair whom she took on a lovely Parisian date. How sweet! Next, though, Val was tossed by storms and fate across the Mediterranean sea of monsters on a journey of self-discovery. But even the brightest stars must fall, and Val was ultimately defeated by an Eight Melodies superfan!
“Right here’s fine, thank you!” Val tapped the pilot’s shoulder as she opened the skydiving plane’s door. None of this had been up to code—the woman came into his business like a whirlwind, gave him coordinates to fly to, and skydive above open water, and now she was about to base jump without a parachute.
“Miss, I don’t think that’s safe!”
The sea breeze whipping through her hair, Val’s laugh boomed louder than the engine. “Of course it is—I’m a professional!”
Already leaning out of the plane, Val let go of the handles, falling towards the ocean. Valerie, Valentine, Val Yao—she was what she had always been: a star, a bolt of purple streaking against the clear sky. The salty sea air flushed the acrid smoke of Rinascita’s infighting from her nostrils and lungs, and Val felt her heart skip beats—a calm hammering. Adrenaline flooding through a body that was not in panic, but making calculated and thoughtful movements, to stave off or speed up her descent.
Despite all the turmoil of the Dead Drop Bay, of the storms and seas, she could see it; she could see the same, serene blue that she painted during her odyssey and now colored the sky and world around her. As she approached terminal velocity where all felt still, the wild winds caressed her, and she felt like she could be here forever. Heart-pounding peace.
Suddenly, she twisted her body, pointing her gunsword upwards. “We’re on in ten, ｢Hiero Oldies｣!” One fairy possessed their manager, another the loaded bullet which was fired upwards, Val’s descent coming to crawl as the countervailing forces suspended her in a dance of physics.
She somersaulted in the air, gingerly landing upon the upper deck of the Jellyfish Skyquarium. The blimp had acted as one part tourbus, one part mobile office, all parts home for the Eight Melodies who politely applauded their manager. Jerry had struggled mightily to get them all in one place. Ravee, Finni, and Eshe were still idols, but Haru had looked to start his own investigation business; Jerry the Dog was on vacation; Echo and Nadine were still unreachable, but at least they could come together for this.
Val rushed through them, slapping backs and giving high fives, before heading to the bridge where Aisha stood. Val’s smile faltered for a moment, “I’m sorry I-”
Aisha pressed a finger to her lips and shook her head. “Boohoo, I’m out of the running for FtK head over a glorified laser pointer—this is your moment now. What are we here for?”
“Right.” With a quick hug and steeling of her resolve, Val turned to face the rest of her crew. “I might not be as active in production, but I’m still the manager of Eight Melodies, and no matter where we go, its light shines in our hearts! Alas, our work is never done. We’re going to need somewhere a lot bigger with what we’re planning! A concert hall—no, a stadium—no, an entire city plaza! We’re artists, dammit, and we need somewhere with a capacity big enough for all our friends to celebrate!”
The idols were going their own ways, and just had Val had started this whirlwind venture, she too would chart out her next one. She took the steering wheel, checked the map, and with the might of a thousand ships, the blimp adjusted its course for Bordeaux where a world of endless adventure awaited. If you thought the Jellyfish Skyquarium was a ride, you haven’t seen nothing yet! “Next stop: Yaoworld!”
As the Eight Melodies cheered their captain, a similarly free spirit leaned against the port window. This hadn’t been the first airship Al had crashed into, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last—this one didn’t even need guidance on where to go! So long as people continued to sail the earth, sea, and now sky, there would always be something to do and somewhere to be.
With a satisfied smile, they dissipated into grains of sand that scattered into the morning sun.
