2022.09.30 15:06 MiserableBrush12 MoDOT to launch environmental study for US 412 in Dunklin County - KBSI Fox 23 Cape Girardeau News Paducah News
MoDOT to launch environmental study for US 412 in Dunklin CountyRoad DUNKLIN COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – The Missouri Department of Transportation is launching an Environmental Study for U.S. Route 412 in Dunklin County.
The study is the first step in planning future capacity improvements for the 20-mile section of U.S. 412 from Route AC near the Arkansas border to just east of Route Y near Kennett.
This section of U.S. 412 is the primary east-west corridor in the bootheel of Missouri, and it is critical to roadway users locally and across the country, according to MoDOT Project Manager David Wyman.
He says the study will help evaluate options for increasing capacity and consider the impact of those options.
The Environmental Study will begin the process of collecting data and gathering public input. These are the first steps in identifying potential project challenges, assessing needs along the corridor, and gauging public sentiment regarding improvements to Route 412. The goal of this work is to establish the purpose of improving Route 412 and what needs drive potential improvements.
MoDOT will work with the Federal Highway Administration on the Environmental Study to make sure it is prepared according to guidelines in the National Environmental Policy Act.
Input from stakeholders and the public will be an important part of the study. MoDOT plans to offer multiple opportunities for public input including a public opinion survey, public meetings, and collaboration with a Citizens Advisory Group of local representatives. All public input opportunities will be posted well in advance through local media and on the project website at modot.org/412.
Public input activities are anticipated to begin in early 2023. Field work and technical analysis will begin this fall.
The Environmental Study is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
“Although funding has not been secured for future construction on this corridor, it has been designated as an unfunded transportation need by the Bootheel Regional Planning Commission, so we are able to begin the planning process,” said Wyman.
The Dunklin County Commission contributed $500,000 toward the completion of the environmental work.

2022.09.30 15:05 MiserableBrush12 Oil and gas drilling: 10th Circuit US Court of Appeals hears oral arguments in Chaco region case
DENVER – On Thursday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit heard oral arguments related to the oil and gas drilling permits issued in the Greater Chaco region of northwest New Mexico.
The Chaco region covers 8,000 miles of northwestern New Mexico and some residents have reported health problems related to fracking.
A few years ago, the Trump administration approved 370 oil and gas drilling permits in the region.
Several community organizations that are plaintiffs in the case held a joint press conference following the conclusion of oral arguments.
“WildEarth Guardians joined a number of other organizations, friends, citizens against running our environment, San Juan Citizens Alliance and Sierra Club are here to defend the greater Chaco region from unchecked oil and gas extraction, fracking and drilling in northwestern New Mexico,” Jeremy Nichols, climate energy program director for WildEarth Guardians said.
Nichols said the Biden administration approved of the Trump administration's issuing the drilling permits.
In response to the Biden and Trump administration's moves, Diné Citizens Against Ruining our Environment, WildEarth Guardians, San Juan Citizens Alliance, and the Sierra Club, represented by the Western Environmental Law Center, filed suit to block the permits.
“We're fighting Goliath if you heard of American Petroleum Institute, they maybe about 20 lawyers on their side against our four lawyers. We’re going up against $100 billion corporations and we're a small organization, grassroots. Of course, it's an uphill battle. But we have justice on our side.” Mario Atencio, Diné Care Greater Chaco Energy Organizer said.
Atencio said as activists continue to fight the drilling, negative health impacts persist.
“If you're there, you will experience you'll feel it, you'll see it. People talk about... they have health symptoms related to headaches to smells, and oil and gas puts out a ton of pollution and emits things like volatile organic compounds, methane, benzene to lean in it emits,” Robin Jackson, member of Diné Citizens Against Ruining Our Environment said.
Samuel Sage, Vice President for Diné Care Board of Directors, said his family has been fighting for their ancestral land for years.
“My late father is Andy Sage, US Marine Corps Navajo Code Talker. And he said, 'You pick up arms when your government tells you to go to war for them and protect the country.' When he come back, little did he know that he has to fight the same country to protect his homeland,” Sage said.
A three-judge panel will deliberate and issue a ruling in the future.

2022.06.15 04:52 yourtongue If you’ve ever wanted to walk the coast of Point Defiance at low tide, now is your INCREDIBLE chance! Historic low tides coming to Puget Sound for next 2 days
I live in Redmond now and won’t be able to make it down to Tacoma for this – all I’m hoping is that even one of y’all sees this and has an amazing time exploring the point defiance coast!
KUOW reports that the lowest tides in over 13 years are coming to the puget sound:
https://kuow.org/stories/lowest-tides-in-13-years-headed-to-puget-sound According to this
site, Around 11AM tomorrow, the low tide will reach an
astonishing -4ft, and will be -4ft again on Thursday around 1:30PM.
For context, when
I’ve walked the coast of point defiance before, the low tides have been around -1ft.
At -4ft, you might see some giant red octopus, and will definitely see an amazing world of tide pools and beautiful sights. Wear good shoes - the rocks are slippery - and yes it will be stinky.
If you happen to go, I’d love to hear about it and see pictures! I really miss living close to Point Defiance and appreciate living vicariously through those of y’all still local to Tacoma 💚
Cheers and happy exploring!! 🐙🤗

2022.02.18 00:05 GalaxyWolves Help Me Understand Swell Height and Swell Period
| Hello, I'm an avid snorkeler and I regularly check swell reports on willyweather to make sure conditions are good for snorkeling. One thing I'm finding confusing is the relationship between 'swell period' and 'swell height'. I understand what they mean individually but don't understand how they affect each other. I've tried googling this of course and most of the information relates to surfing. A website will suggest that swell period can increase swell height and then another website will say they are two independent values that don't necessarily have a relationship. In the two images below you can see that yesterday there was a sharp increase in swell period around 12:30pm. These sharp increases seem to coincide with the periodic low tide around the same time and also a drop in wind speed. These sharp increases in swell period are regularly occurring on most days but then you have a day like today where there is no sharp increase in swell period at all. Wind speed and direction is the same and the tide hasn't changed either so what is causing it? In the end I'm looking for the best conditions possible for snorkeling. Flat, calm and clear water. I want to make sure that these sharp increases in 'swell period' aren't actually causing rougher / choppier conditions even though willyweather would suggest they coincide with a decrease in swell height. https://preview.redd.it/jeas46ws5hi81.jpg?width=1276&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3f439103e82aba30e629dedc4534c37fbea25037 https://preview.redd.it/9fn7syxs5hi81.jpg?width=1279&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b462d373018992273858d6e619ff328a61f877ae submitted by GalaxyWolves to Adelaide [link] [comments] |

2022.01.08 23:06 Blackazette Tide Resources for mobile device
Surfline's desktop app allows you to mouse over the tide curve and see what the tide is at X time.
a mobile app that allows you to do this is willyweather, however, the value that willyweather spits out is consistently different from the value that surfline spits out. Over time i've just learned to get a general feel for what spots are actually doing in comparison to those two pieces of info.
Just wondering if anybody else here has another app that they would recommend for a mobile device that allows you to "scroll" along the tide data curve. Not looking for just the high/low tide times but for the estimate of the minute by minute breakdown, available on mobile.
thanks.

2021.06.21 15:25 LightSunset Trigonometry help
Hello. I currently have a math assignment where I have to create a trigonometric graph of y = Bsin[(N(x-K)]+C I have to find values of B, N,K and C and make my graph, representing roughly the high tide and low tide of the graph in the area from 5 day range. Y is the height of tide, x is the time in hours or days.I have to make it represent this area on the 1st of January to 5th January 5 day period, how do I do this?Later I have to sub x in from a date and I have to compare real data to predicted data.
https://tides.willyweather.com.au/nsw/sydney/queenscliff-head.html Y = 1.106sin[1(x+2)]+8
this is my equation, I did average height of all graph for amplitude
is this accurate? How do I make it more accurate

2016.09.05 00:12 starfruit780 Thousand Steps Beach
Hey there was hoping someone could give some insight. It is my first time going to this beach and there are some pools past a cave there that I want to get to. They say to only go during low tide so I wanted to confirm if I get there at 8AM I should be okay heading back to the beach from the pools before 12PM? Using this tide chart but not too familiar with it all so would appreciate any tips/help =)
