I have a question , when was your moment : I am destined to do this ?
I will start,
I was 7 when we started to build our own house ( big family , 5 kids, I am 4/5 ) my fathe(IT manager) was brutaly honest and kind a drunker (real abuser, solving anything by violence ) , so after some time I was the only one scared to say "no" and helping him with the construction. It was just me and him most of the time. But all the time I was asking : "why we do this or that , what if we will do it this way ?" One time (when I was 9)he just stop and ask me : "did you think to be an analysis man ? you know the money and respect they get ? Dont you think you can do that ?" My answer was "NO ! , I dont wana be like you , stressed from office , answering phones in a free time , leaving my family because my company needs me ...", he did not say a world about that . After school I started as an logistic operator in warehouse , but I did the same , why we have mistakes in stocks , who did that etc.. , when I was 21 he passed and I was more focused in job than ever , My boss saw my focus and he asked me If I wana go for logistic analysis , try to see root cause of the problems and try to solve them. So here I am 7 years later .. making analysis for anything in the company , checking root causes , helping with financial control and audits , I am the one the see the truth by the system and there is not even one day without my mind go back to my father ... "Dont you wana be analysis guy ?"
I am not fullfiling his legacy , he just saw whats in me .. Thanks that , whatever he was.. I learnd to ask and wait for answer , I will be brutaly honest and never take a step back. Its 3 years since I realized .. thats me , not because he sad but beacuse I am who I am and he saw it.

I know that sounds like an easy fix, just clean my room right?
It's kinda harder than that, just a little. I'm a writer and kinda a hoarder when it comes to paper. I have a big box of paper in my closet and some of it has scrap paper I can throw away, some of it is important story plots, characters and things like that. (We moved a while ago so I had to just toss it all in a box and it all just got mixed up).
The problem is, the closet is the only place I can put anything, and I can't clean out my closet until the box of papers are taken care of, which will take a while to take care of. I was in the process of taking care of the papers, but to put it simply, it was an organized mess. So my mom had me put them in another box and I'll have to go through all of them again. Plus it'll take forever to go through all the paper, it took close to a month for me to get through half the papers.
And when I said I can't do ANYTHING, I mean I can't start my job which I wanted to start some time this week and I can't go to the animal shelter like I do for about an hour every day they are opened (closed on Monday and Sunday)
I also want to move out of the house and live with my girlfriend and her family when I get my job, but I can't do that now cus I can't start my job until my room is clean, which is just GREAT.
I know this probably isn't explaining the best, I feel really frustrated and overwhelmed so i've been on and off crying and I'm just all over the place and my head hurts cus of me crying and staying up till one in the morning and waking up at 9 in the morning, trying to figure out what to do.
I'm hoping a clean perspective will help, let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to explain better. Thanks!

It is the rule of thumb to contribute 15% of gross to retirement, I get it. But how does it work for couple? Logically, a retired couple doesn't need as much as two single retirees, mostly due to housing cost but also some other costs that can be shared.
My point is that a couple doesn't need to contribute 15% of their own salary respectively, or 15% of combined. My feeling is that it should be somewhat lower than 15% of combine.
Another opinion that I see is to use our current expenses to predict what we need and completely not relying on "percentage of salary" as rule of thumb. But the problem for this method is that we are still young, predicting 30/40 years from now won't work well.
What's the general idea for this?

During a winter 2 years ago, when it extra cold outside (-30C to -40C during the day), I noticed a baby squirrel that climbed on my house wall and was staring at me through the window. The next day, I noticed that tiny squirrel on my deck looking at me through a window. I brought some nuts and left them outside. For 2+ years, every day I’ve been “making breakfast” for that squirrel. Most of the time he waited for me. If not, he would come if I call his name. (Yup, I gave him a name). He is all grown up now but still under sized. My neighbour is an a$$hole. He saw me feeding the squirrel and called pest control. I haven’t seen that squirrel since. No its not my pet. Its a wild animal. It still hurts emotionally. Thats not the first time he does stuff to annoy me. He teased regularly my dog and then yelled at my dog. He cut off branches from my tree because property line (which is fine i guess). He called cops because he thought that tree on my front lawn is too close to his property. He got a warning from cops. I am not religious, but I hope he burns in hell.
This is a rant that will hopefully get this out of my head.

I acknowledged that and apologized to him and said i’d be willing to really try and figure things out and figure out how to communicate and that it wouldn’t happen again bc i said i wanted to mean it if i said it. I’ve been trying to get better at acknowledging my mistakes to create a safer space for him to talk to me too. But he didn’t. he probably never was going to tell me. He had sex with me the next day as if that didn’t happen.
I feel embarrassed that i let myself get lied to again. It hurts so bad. It hurts so bad because i wanted him to be the one. I love him and i love our relationship and the fun things we do. He started going to therapy to try and work on his communication and other general issues he has and acrually shows improvement and tries. We had plans to move in. We had plans for everything. It hurts so fucking bad. I wanted it to be him. i want it to be him. but i know that there must be someone out there who won’t lie to me. is there? do honest men even exist anymore? i feel so lost.

First, I must say the title made me swoon. I love it when a romance makes it clear that the two MCs are similar in the right ways but then also make up for the things the other is lacking in their lives, and this book portrayed that pretty well.
I gave it a 4/5 stars on my Goodreads, but it’s really more a 3.5. It’s the first Julie Anne Long book I’ve ever finished. I’ve previously tried a couple of her Pennyroyal Greene books, but couldn’t get into them, so the premise really gripped me to me to give her another try.
I’m not sure I’ll really get into her backlist, but the series this one is in—the Palace of Rogues—is a fun concept with a unique set of circumstances and side characters, so I might read some others in the series.
The premise is that Christian Hawk, former spy who’s just been released from a French prison and is now penniless, has been hired by the Earl of Brundage to find his missing fiancé, Aurelie Capet.
Aurelie has escaped Paris and her engagement and found her way to the Grand Palace on the Thames, a cozy boarding house, to secure passage to life with her brother in Boston.
Christian finds out her location, but through romance shenanigans, he shows up at the door of the Grand Palace with a knife wound. Aurelie insists on taking care of him—she doesn’t want him to be alone whether he lives or dies 🥺🥺—and they are instantly attracted to each other, physically and personality-wise.
It soon becomes apparent to us and to Hawkes that Brundage is a no good horrible phlegmwad of a human, and that Aurelie escaped him because he did horrible things to her.
Hawkes decides pretty early on that he has zero intention of giving Aurelie back to Brundage, but he holds off on coming clean to her, and eventually she finds out through other means, triggering her to run away.
(Rest assured though, that this “secret” isn’t the major drive of conflict between the two, at least not in the “you lied and now I hate you” sort of way.)
In fact, there’s basically zero conflict between the two MCs, so if you’re into that kind of romance—which I am—this will be great.
Overall, I had a good time reading this book, but I came away feeling generally underwhelmed by it.
Both the plot and the romance had a lot of potential to be very exciting and tension-filled, but the actual story didn’t deliver that to the fullest, or even close. There were a lot of high stakes in the plot on paper, but I didn’t feel those high stakes in the execution.
The romance also has a lot of high emotional stakes for the characters, and they did have chemistry, but somehow, it didn’t translate into the fast and deep emotional bond I was hoping for.
It wasn’t dull by any means, but everything just felt kind of fluffy and calm, and that’s not what I was expecting from a book with characters experiencing a boatload of past trauma.
I also had an issue with the pacing. At the beginning, there was a lot of time dedicated to the side characters in the Grand Palace, with POVs from the FMCs of previous books in the series.
This dragged on so long that the two MCs hadn’t event met until chapter 9 or something, and that I am not a fan of. If the side characters weren’t as charming as they were, I’d have dnf’d long ago. As it stands, I still feel like the book wasted some of my time.
(I generally like the two MCs to meet in the very first scene or as close to it as possible.)
More on pacing—the entire book felt a bit strange on that front. I couldn’t really put my finger on the character arcs of the MCs, and overall the plot progression felt kind of messy. The climax wasn’t really high stakes enough to feel like a climax, and overall, I didn’t feel there was any uncertainty about what would happen. No real surprises, and no hard decisions for the characters. Again, the stakes to everything just felt too low.
But overall, the romance was very sweet, and at times the MMC said some pretty swoon-worthy things🥲. The two MCs were both highly likeable and interesting people, and I enjoyed being in their heads.
The side characters were all very lively and distinct, and the entire atmosphere of the Grand Palace was inviting and cosy.
The book was also HILARIOUS at some places. Circumstantial humour, mostly, but I definitely laughed out loud more than once. We’re not talking Tessa Dare level humour—it’s not as light hearted and rom-com-esque—but despite the dark trauma both the MCs have faced, it feels pretty light and fun.
In terms of sexy times, I was very shocked to find there was only ONE sex scene toward the end of the book. ONE. Idk what the norm is for this author, but I was expecting many more. They kissed maybe three times total on page, and there was not any physical sexual build-up to speak of. (Like no hand holding or errant touches or deep make-out stuff leading up to the sex.)
If someone can tell me if this is normal for this author I’d appreciate it. I don’t mind either way, because the physical connection was still there throughout, but I was just expecting a lot more sex.
Anyway, basically, if you’re looking for a low stress, cosy, comforting read, I’d highly recommend this. I’ll probably only come back to it for the fun vibes and hilarity of the Grand Palace setting, but if you’re usually more into rom-coms but are open to something a bit more serious, this is perfect for you.

Heyo- just need to vent. I'm a gun guy- I love firearms and the proper use, safety, and knowledge that comes with them. But, one of my pistols was stolen from me. After reporting it and the SN to the police, and the situation behind it- less than a month later (just this morning in fact) my old house was robbed. See, I'm moving from one place to another. I'm a live in caretaker, and take care of my mother since her health is failing. I've done this work before, and in this situation I have a segregated part of the house to live in. Well, I've got all my personal valubles and effects here at the new house, and at the beginning of the month one of my firearms was stolen (like I said, did all that can be done at this point). But, this morning someone broke into the old house and stole my grandmothers jewellery. Cleared out our safe. But here's the kicker. My mothers brand new pc I built her? They left that. And the birth certificates. And the title to the tesla. A bit strange right? Anyway- I just wanted to throw it out there.
We all collectively, as humans, should do better to treat people with dignity, respect, and love. It's a shame this is what life is like.

I need some advice. She tends to get into my hobbies. It always ends up with her getting hyper efficient, looking at research, then asking me to show her the source of my information and methods and why im doing something. She’ll want to spend money to do things right and efficiently. It quickly sucks all the fun out of things like gardening. Especially if i just dont wanna spend too much on it. I don’t understand how anyone enjoys hobbies like that but i accept they do. For me it just sucks all the fun out of it and i dont want to do my own hobby anymore and have to give it up to escape.
What can i do here? I dont wanna ban her for doing things with me but wt the same time i feel pretty let down about how she ruins my hobbies

Hi all.
I had a super toxic relationship with zero boundaries for years. During the pandemic, it ended, and I went to therapy. I did a lot of work and I am in a much healthier relationship now.
A big part of the getting over was the no contact part. Block, delete. I even deleted the socials temporarily to drop the habits. It worked!
Except… a year into my relationship he created a new Instagram. Saw the view on a story and blocked him. Then, he showed up at my house. My bf wasn’t there but long story short he confessed he had all of these feelings and was ready and done treating me as badly as he did. I told my bf he came around and he said I should have gotten a restraining order. In hindsight, I agree, but he was also not in the best frame of mind and he is impulsive. He also moved so I figured it would all be ok.
Well, last night I got a text from a friend informing me his best friend passed. The best friend is a childhood friend of mine, but me and my ex used to talk about him. The last time we spoke he said “I know he’s going to die within the next few years.” And he did. And I’m just thinking a lot about this ex and I’m worried that with him coming into town for the funeral I want to be prepared.
First, bf won’t be leaving my side until further notice, but another thing… should I tell bf about my concern of this guy showing up at my door? I feel like I’m being a bit crazy, but this ex is irrational and I’m home and he came here within the last year unprovoked and probably not the most mentally well.

Hello there,
I'm making this post as I'm concerned about the amount of time my girlfriend is given as a rest period between shifts, as well the fact that she is not paid for travel time (on shift) between care calls.
I'm hoping to get some clarification on the employment laws surrounding these issues before potential reporting of these breaches, any assistance or knowledge is greatly appreciated
I've been doing some research which suggests that care workers are entitled to a *minimum* of 11 hours rest between shifts. To give one small example of many potential breaches of this law, my girlfriend works from 6:30-10PM tonight as part of a split shift. Tomorrow she is due to start at 7am. The shift she is taking on tonight involves travelling between multiple clients houses, in a town away from home. Due to the nature of the job she often has to work unpaid overtime if there are any issues or is delayed during work. The concern lies in the fact that she finishes at 10PM, in a different town, which is at least a 20 minute bus ride from home. Even if she finishes on time, the very earliest she can be expected to be in bed asleep is 11pm as a generous estimate. She then has to wake up at 6am for a 7am start (in her home town, but sometimes others)
On top of all of this. She is not paid for her travel time between clients houses - whether that be walking (often with extremely unfair time constraints and long distances to travel) or car sharing with another employee.
It is my understanding that the lack of a proper rest period a serious breach of safe working conditions, given the nature of her job and the fact that she works with vulnerable people.
