2023.06.08 23:23 Affectionate-Ad2081 The Case for Tim Duncan as the GOAT

I know what you're thinking: no way; there's no chance Tim Duncan is the GOAT. He's not even the best player of his generation you might say. You're thinking there's no way Tim Duncan belongs in the same category as MJ or LeBron. If you believe this, there are three things that you'll probably bring up as I make this argument.
  1. The Second Act: If you're the kind of person who rates players through spreadsheets, his career in the 2010s is statistically underwhelming.
  2. The Peak: You might say that Duncan never had a real peak where he was the most dominant player in the league on a daily basis, like Shaq.
  3. Greg Popovich: Duncan has always had Pop, arguably the greatest coach of all time in his corner.
I hear you, and I will address these later on in this post. First, let me address Duncan's stats and accolades.
Duncan's notable accolades from his NBA career are as follows:
Duncan's 5 championships are more than Larry Bird or Wilt Chamberlain, his 15 All-Defensive selections are the most of anybody ever, his 15 All Star appearances are tied for 3rd all time, he has as many regular season MVP's as Kobe and Shaq combined and only MJ has more Finals MVP's.
Don't forget about his college accomplishments though, because remember: Duncan came out of Wake Forest after four years despite people like Jerry West who said he could have been the number one overall pick had he left after his sophomore year.
Duncan's accolades form his collegiate years:
These NBA and collegiate snapshots of his basketball career, should be enough to have him at the table of the GOAT conversation. You're not convinced yet, let's dig into some more numbers.
Here's where Duncan ranks all-time on some of the major statistical categories across his NBA career:
These career totals, admittedly, are substantially less impressive than other players at his position, like Kevin Garnett (19th in points, 9th in rebounds, 18th in blocks, 18th in steals, 55th in assists), Karl Malone (3rd in points, 7th in rebounds, 70th in blocks, 12th in steals, 61st in assists) or Dirk Nowitzki (6th in points, 26th in rebounds, 53rd in blocks, 94th in steals, 155th in assists). And that's because you can't judge Tim Duncan's numbers like you can with most players. Imagine in 15 years if somebody said to you that Russell Westbrook was better than Steph Curry, citing how many PTS, AST, and REB Westbrook had. You'd laugh right? Because you know that numbers do not always tell the full story. It is impossible and irresponsible to discuss a player's ranking without mentioning the stats that exists, but by measuring players purely by their basketball reference page, you're leaving out context and the story in which those numbers were achieved. That context is what makes those numbers meaningful.
Such is the case with Tim Duncan, whose success and greatness transcends a box score. You can't judge Tim Duncan with numbers alone. The fact of the matter is, that if you ran a team and if you could pick from any NBA player that ever played the game, and your goal is to win, you would pick Tim Duncan.
Offensively, Duncan was dominant for his first ten years in the NBA. From '98 to '08, he averaged 21.6/11.8/3.1 while playing on one of the slowest teams in the league. In that span, the Spurs never ranked in the top half of the league for PACE. Adjusting his stats for PACE and looking at his stats per 100 possessions (31.2/17.1/4.5 with 3.5 BLK at 50.8 FG%), you're looking at a big man who was every bit as productive as any other offensive player in the league at the time.
You already know about his skillset. He was, after all, The Big Fundamental. He could pass out of double teams, face up and break down the defense with surprising agility, consistently knock down shots from the elbows, and torch any big man in the league with his array of moves in the post and suddenly imposing physicality. He could masterfully run a PnR with any guard with working limbs. And, of course, he had his signature bank shot, one of the most consistent and reliable shots of all time along with Kareem's Sky Hook and Dirk's fadeaway. Those skills never deteriorated throughout his career, except perhaps his last year.
This is where I want to attack the 2nd idea that his second act was unexceptional. His scoring numbers dipped in last 8 years, where he never averaged over 20 PPG. But, as the Spurs offense became more collaborative and free-flowing, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili shouldered more of that scoring burden as Duncan aged. Duncan's shot attempts fell, though he remained efficient. His skills hadn't waned; the Spurs just didn't need him to score 28 points every night. He retained his role as alpha dog during this stretch and contributed in other facets of the game. He could pick his spots, put his teammates in position to succeed, and save himself undue punishment and wear until is was needed. That's why in 2013, at the age of 36, he became the oldest player ever named to First Team All-NBA.
Duncan was never a prolific scorer, even in his prime. His game was never predicated on gawdy point totals like Malone or Dirk. With a different offense, he took fewer shots, and with fewer shots, he scored fewer points. In his last eight years, he remained a tremendous rebounder, was the go-to guy in crunch time, and the best defender, maybe ever. And this is what hurt his stats: the lack of flashy numbers for defense outside of blocks and steals. It's so hard to measure how much a drive was cut off because of his presence or a shot that was altered because of his contention. There are some metrics that attempt to measure this, like DRTG, Defensive Win Shares, and Defensive +/- , and while it is an inexact science, these measures do a fairly good job at assessing a player's impact on defense. Duncan's ranking in those metrics is unmatched:
"Duncan guarded centers and power forwards (sometimes even small forwards) with equal success. And as the NBA became more and more of a high pick-and-roll game, Duncan accepted the extra responsibility of getting involved at the perimeter, while never abandoning basket responsibility. Nobody was better than Duncan at being both an advance guard and the final fortress."
FiveThirtyEight published this article in 2016, where analyst Neil Paine calculated career WAR values that took into consideration defense and offense, and Tim Duncan led the WAR rankings, by a mile:
  1. Tim Duncan: 109.2
  2. KG: 96.2
  3. Karl Malone: 95.4
  4. David Robinson: 89.3
  5. Hakeem: 85.9
  6. LeBron: 82.8
  7. Kareem: 78
  8. Larry Bird: 74.2
  9. Shaq: 73
  10. Pippen: 72.7
What does all of this mean? It means that Duncan was a tremendous offensive player, despite the lack of volume, and one of if not the greatest defenders of all time. In short, his value as a two-way player is virtually unmatched in the last 50 years of NBA basketball.
Enough with the numbers. I want to talk about Duncan when it mattered the most: the playoffs. You can look at any numbers, read any article, or talk to any fan who paid attention to the game at the time, and you'll come to the same conclusion: Tim Duncan was a killer in the playoffs. All of his most memorable performances came in the postseason, and more often than not, came in crucial games when his team needed him most. From his near quadruple double in 2003 to close out the Nets and earn his 2nd championship to his 25 point first half against the Heat in Game 6 of the 2013 Finals ten years later, there was never a moment too big for Duncan. Here are his playoff numbers, significantly higher in almost every category than he his in the regular season:
His '99 championship run was phenomenal, where he tore through a young Kevin Garnett, the newly assembled Kobe-Shaq Lakers, Rasheed Wallace's Trailblazers, and the Patrick Ewing-less 8-seed Knicks on his way to being named the second youngest Finals MVP ever. His 2002 campaign was incredibly underrated, as he carried one of the worst teams of his career to 60 wins and outplayed Shaq before being beat by the two-time champs. His 2003 season was his best season, and we'll get to that in a second. Just know that his running mate, David Robinson, averaged 8.5 PTS and 8 REB in the regular season and that Duncan's 5.9 win shares in that playoff run remain the most of anybody in a single postseason.
In the mid-to-late 2000s, Duncan's Spurs remained a fixture in the playoffs against competition like Dirk's Mavs, Nash's Suns, and Kobe's Lakers. He repaid them with two more titles in '05 and '07. He also gave us one of the clutch shots of his career in Game 1 against the Suns in 2008 with this 3 point game-tying three pointer in OT.
Like I said earlier, in Game 6 of the 2013 Finals, at age 36, playing against Wade, Bosh, and apex LeBron on the road, Duncan put up 25 points in the first half. It would have gone down as an all-time series clinching performance had it not been for Ray Allen's iconic game-tying 3-pointer. Looking for revenge in the 2014 Finals, Duncan set the tone in Game 1 with the classic 21/10 game, while shooting 9/10 from the field. As his final playoff hurrah in 2015, trying to defend the title at the ripe age of 38 in Game 7 of a first round series against the Clippers, Duncan reached all the way back and put up 27/11, sinking crucial free throws to tie it, before Chris Paul hit a clutch, game-winning shot near the buzzer.
The same Tim Duncan giving the business to a 22-year-old Kevin Garnett, was the same Tim Duncan taking a 26-year-old DeAndre Jordan to school. Duncan was ready to win championships from the day he entered the league to the day he left. And I think that is why his peak is used against him as an argument for GOAT status. The fact that his championship window lasted his entire 19-year NBA career and that his teams were always somewhere between 50 and 60 wins meant that it's hard for any one of his seasons to stand out from the rest. And for some unfathomable reason, being consistently great is less of an accomplishment than being great for short stints.
Like I said, his 2003 season was his best, after leading his team to 60 wins and his 2nd consecutive MVP, Duncan eviscerated everything in his path as he tore through the playoffs. He upended the Suns, ended the Lakers 3-year reign as champions, and outdueled Dirk before absolutely torching the Nets in the finals. By the time he was holding the trophy, it was clear beyond a shadow of a doubt that Duncan was the league's best, most complete player.
Now, I'd be lying if I said that Duncan's peak was higher than Shaq's. But I also wouldn't feel comfortable saying that the difference between the two is great enough for me to lose sleep over. To me, the truth is that Shaq was so much more of a spectacle. To watch peak Shaq was an experience unlike anything else. To see someone of his size and stature move so powerfully and fluidly is still something of a miracle. To see Duncan at the peak of his powers was a lot like seeing him seven or eight years later. He was just a little faster, a bit stronger, and a touch quicker in his prime. But do aesthetics denote superiority? I'd say, no. And though Shaq in his prime was certainly a more dominant offensive player, there was never a time where he could match Duncan's abilities as a defender, leader, or teammate. The two are the antithesis of each other. Shaq loves fame; Duncan loathes it. Shaq would sometimes show up to training camp out of shape, often battle with his co-stars and finished his career having played for six different teams. Duncan took great care of his body, cemented himself as the cornerstone of his franchise, and is one of the most celebrated teammates in NBA history. Shaq left a little on the table. You can never say the same thing about Duncan. Shaq cared a little too much about what everyone thought of him, while Duncan couldn't have cared less.
Let's tackle the third criticism: that he always had Pop. To me, Pop is the greatest coach of all time, but he would be the first one to tell you that he wouldn't be here without Tim Duncan.
For one, Duncan can play any style of basketball, in any era. You want to go slow school, old-pace, dump it off to the big man down low, let him bang and be solid on defense? Titles. Remove the hand-checking and illegal defenses, increase scoring and start moving toward the perimeter? Titles. The league goes small ball, the pace explodes and shooting and ball movement is more important than anything? The largest margin of victory in NBA finals history.
Secondly, he can play with any team. Honestly, has any superstar done more with less? Jordan had Pippen his entire run and Rodman for the last half. Bird had McHale and Parish. Wilt had West and Hal Grier. Russell had Cousy, Jones, and Havlicek. Magic had Kareem and vice-versa. Kobe had Shaq and vice-versa. And LeBron has had Wade, Kyrie, and AD. Duncan's best teammates? Old David Robinson, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili, who combined for 5 Third Team All NBA appearances and 4 Second Team appearances during their time with Duncan. Parker and Ginobili are long shots for the HOF, and even though Robinson's in the HOF, he wasn't playing at a HOF level alongside Duncan.
Third, and most importantly, Duncan forged the culture of the Spurs. Pop was essential in acquiring players and reinforcing the culture that Tim wanted, but Duncan was truly the most vital component. The NBA is a star-driven league and finding a great player who hasn't gotten a coach fired is like finding a good Star Wars movie: they're few and far between. Not only did Duncan not get Pop fired, he let Pop coach him harder than any superstar ever. If Tim had ever thought to himself, "you know what I don't feel like getting my chops roasted in front of the whole team today because I didn't box out well in practice" he could have gone right to RC Buford, and Pop would have been gone - end of story. But Tim understood what Pop was about, and trusted him enough to be mentored in an unprecedented way. He set the example for his teammates, that no one is immune to criticism and that it's expected of everyone to leave their egos at the door.
In 2017, the Spurs SB Nation blog, Pounding the Rock, spoke to Sam Walker, author of "The Captain Class," a book which examines winning culture in team sports, from field hockey to rugby. In an exchange, Walker said this:
"[T]he book's main conclusion is that the only one factor that must be present in order to maintain greatness over a long period of time is the presence of a particular kind of selfless, relentless, independent-minded, publicity-averse, emotionally composed captain with strong communication skills. And that's Tim Duncan. Duncan was a pure example of the species."
I love Pop, but I have to believe that Duncan was the catalyst that powered Pop to be what he is now. This isn't Belichick-Brady where you wonder who made who. Pop is the greatest coach of all time, because of Tim Duncan. If you want to take credit away from Duncan by saying he played for the best teams, you might be right, but only because he made them the best team. He gave up touches, let other guys hold the torch, put everyone around him in the best position to succeed, and he enjoyed it when they did.
When I said earlier that the thing that hurt Duncan's stats more than anything was a lack of defensive numbers, I lied. The thing that hurt Duncan's stats more than anything was the fact that he never gave a shit about stats or awards. Ever. He wanted his teams to succeed and he wanted to win. That's it. Just read about how his teammates talk about him:
"The best PF ever! Thanks for the memories old man. A great player and teammate."
- Lamarcus Aldridge
"Sometimes all you NEED to say is THANK YOU....To the BEST EXAMPLE of a Leader, Brother, Friend."
- Bruce Brown
"Even tho I knew it was coming, I'm still moved by the news. What a HUGE honor to have played with [Duncan] for 14 seasons!
- Manu Ginobili
I don't think there is a more beloved teammate than Tim Duncan. In the words of NBA commissioner Adam Silver, "...his understated selflessness made him the ultimate teammate." Duncan was always the big brother. Correcting his teammates when they made mistakes and throwing his arms around their shoulders when things didn't go their way. He led in the most effective way possible, not with tweeting, bombastic words, or showy halftime speeches, but by example.
Of all the end-of-career farewell wishes, the one from his former teammate, Brent "Bones" Barry stuck out to me the most. He quoted Mark Twain, saying "'To be good is noble, but to show others how to be good is nobler and no trouble'; for your brilliance TD, I am grateful. For your skills as a player I am in awe. And for your friendship I am honored."
Milwaukee Bucks coach and former Spurs Assistant, Mike Budenholzer said to ESPN's Kevin Arnovitz in 2016: "The magnitude of that, the number of people in this league who have enjoyed opportunity or found fortunate spots in the league, you can trace it back to this one guy -- to the way Timmy played ball and the way he conducted himself. The 'culture' is Timmy."
The NBA is a league of superstars and dynasties - from Russell to Jordan, from Wilt to LeBron. We'll remember its history through its champions, and in the history of North American sports, no team has been as good for as long as the Spurs. San Antonio's success is completely unprecedented in the world of basketball. Aside from his lockout shortened sophomore season, Duncan won 50 or more games and qualified for the playoffs in every season of his NBA career. He finished his career with a win percentage of 71%, the highest of anyone, in any sport, ever. The Spurs run of success started in 1997, the year they drafted Duncan. Since then, he was the cornerstone, the engine of the franchise that has perpetually defined what winning culture looks like - in and outside of basketball.
And so I say again, if you could pick any NBA player from any era of basketball and your goal was to win, you would pick Tim Duncan. His abilities as a basketball player are what made him a superstar. But his consistency, willingness to be coached, love and support of his teammates, and humility are the things that make him transcendent.
I'll let Pop have the last word. This is what he said to the press after Duncan announced his retirement:
"Everybody always talks about who they'd like to eat dinner with, if you had one night and you could go to dinner or lunch with someone. Some people say Mother Teresa, Jesus, the Dalai Lama...I could honestly tell you, my dinner would be with Timmy. He is the most real, consistent, true person I've ever met in my life."

2023.06.08 23:22 Youngling_Hunt Sudden abdomen pain, gas and diarrhea. Am I sick?

Trigfer warner, no censoring
So I was feeling completely fine all day. Went shopping, tried eating a bit, and then while I was sitting in my chair, sudden bad lower abdominal pain began. I let some gas out, and decided to go use the restroom. Started as normal poop and turned into diarrhea that burned by the end. My lower abdomen hurt super duper bad. But then it sort of subsided. I began freaking out and took 3 nauzene tablets. I'm so worried I'm gonna throw up. I felt hungry this morning, and ate about 1.5 hours ago (just toast). I ate breakfast yesterday but all I had in the evening was a few snack bars. Yesterday was hard, I was having a ton of anxiety after I gagged on some apple sauce for no reason. But then I got really hungry the rest of the day/evening. Like now as I'm typing, I don't feel a ton of stomach pain anywhere. In fact, I think I might feel a bit hungry. But it's always hard for me to tell if I'm hungry, as I stress out that hunger pains might be sick pains in the stomach too. My stomach feels a tiny bit tight, but that might just be the nauzene?
Yesterday I took like 10-14 nauzene tablets, and today I've taken 6 so far. I eat them like candy to help with my anxiety about this, maybe that caused the diarrhea? Maybe not eating all day yesterday (well, at least not eating much yesterday) and the day before caused it? When you guys get stomach bug, do you usually feel worse pain besides just right before you go? Like I said, right now I feel mostly fine, but I'm worried that's gonna change in an instant

2023.06.08 23:22 AdSilver2537 New neighbor looking through my mail and moving property lines

My new neighbors just bought the lot next to my home. First thing they do after clearing the trees on their property is move my property line marker over about 10 feet into my property. They then came up to ask me where the line was after moving it. They said they “estimated” the size of their lot and then moved the marker accordingly because they didn’t think the property line was straight. Keep in mind this is a wooded area with no surveyor involved so I’m not sure how they figured that.
Afterwards they told me that if I saw them on my security footage waiving at the camera above my one of many “no trespassing” signs a few days earlier, it was just her checking MY MAIL and packages to make sure none of her mail was delivered to me. I was not home and never met that woman before in my life. We have completely separate mailing addresses too. I’m more upset about the trespassing and mail than the property line because I wasn’t home and it feels like a serious invasion of my privacy.
I’m considering having a deputy formally trespass them from my property that way I can pursue legal action if this happens again. However that sort of feels like an overreaction, and being on bad terms with neighbors sucks. What should I do?

2023.06.08 23:21 AmharaFano_ This Oromos Regime of Ethiopia is epitome of hell for Amharas - this oromumma agenda will fail miserably. And will suffer the consequences like never before !

I’m extremely disgusted on how a lot of people in this sub gaslight & downplay Amharas suffering from this very much oromo regime and don’t let Amharas express their feelings it’s only right they do it’s the truth no integrity no shame don’t care who you support you do not downplay ppl sufferings & their expressions. We’ve suffered terribly from the last 2 previous regimes hoping for the best in abiy but he lets down Amharas again & again with false hope no better than the others but all Amharas do not support him no more except payroll Banda’s. Nobody suffered worse from tplf & derg regime than Amharas now the past 5 -6 years of this oromo gangster regime it’s the same-thing. Tell me how Amharas are not targeted & Amharas is just going through what everyone is, can’t be because no one has even went through 5% comparable damage like Amharas.
  1. Who is the perpetrators of the mass genocide in oromia which been going through since the 80s but since abiy got in power the violence skyrocketed which massacres like 3000 Amharas in 1 day & half in Tole kebele Wollega is a normal occurrence and be blocked of to any gateway to leave the region and just be surrounded & wiped out again to any survivors from evidence getting outside so as complete destruction of Amharas. This is continuously taking place in wollega & throughout oromia since Ola blames Opdo Abiy gov and likewise with abiy opdo it’s very much a game to them they’re in cahoots and to not take responsibility they just blame eachother but one thing for certain is it’s oromos committing genocide. Very much over 15,000 + thousand Amharas massacred gruesomely since abiy time in power
  2. How abiy protect & let influx of oromo terrorist in the region, they’ve burned down & shell with nonstop bullets in the city of ataye & other towns in north shewa over 10 times in ataye alone in our very own region. Oromos try to deflect and not take all responsibility and say fano did it like what ? and try to have justification so they lie & say oromos in wello are targeted which is a downright lie you would not exist in the region no more you would’ve also seen a massive idp case but their very much protect by adp government + abiy, Amharas cannot even avenge themselves on the terrorist hosting in oromo zone in Amhara they protected by the orommuma gov. so that’s far from the case but game of theirs to not have responsibility.
  3. Demolition of 110,000 houses surrounding of Addis which overwhelming majority are Amharas (90%)+ and rest gurages other minorities & making them idp. Since his power made over 11 million Amharas displaced & homeless in Ethiopia.
  4. Abiy war in Amhara targeted our only support/trust system fano/asf which saved and covered endf when they got stabbed in the back & was saved by fano multiple occasions. He has said he will disarm every regional special forces and add them in endf or state police in Ethiopia but no signs of disarmament of any other regions or starting of it except from Amharas, the ones who did disarmed and listen to abiy have been sidelined & not gotten a job in security so it’s really abiy not wanting Amharas having a defence system ? Ola has not been disarmed even though they commit genocide they haven’t suffered any consequences of any large scale attack from the government even abiy himself blames them in most of the atrocities done in Ethiopia still nothing done, there very much in cahoots and work for the same orommuma agenda, Kill together lie together.
I can go on & on but I didn’t want to be to long with my post. Amharas are to be furious if this was anybody else hell breaks lose 4 years ago. Since we have been very patient a lot of Amharas held back cause they believed abiy blaming game not taking responsibility & still hoped he change up the politics in Ethiopia and trust his false operations on terrorist but that’s over the rest of Amharas have completely rejected psychopathic abiy & his gov completely. We’re good fearing & very articulate on our next move is also a couple of reason why Amharas didn’t started fighting back then till recently. It’s to late for this orommuma gov once Amhara start fighting they finish it they going down top to bottom. You really know how fed up Amharas are to make them turn against Endf (hijacked btw) even feel something against the Ethiopia population.
Ps. English not my first language

2023.06.08 23:21 yyj_paddler NIMBY voices are amplified at our council meetings and it favors certain voices over others

I was reading this article from 10 months ago, where Colwood council unanimously rejected a 142-unit apartment building. and it’s been bugging me, so I decided to write a giant wall of text and share that with all of you.
Specifically what stood out to me in this article was what one of Colwood’s councilors, Cynthia Day, said about the decision to reject the apartment:
“I would love to support a project like this that has less blasting and more land preserved, but I’m in a hard spot because this plan is not sitting well with our community. It’s not my job to convince the public to accept this plan, that’s your job,” Coun. Cynthia Day said.
If Colwood council was basing their decision on who showed up to their public hearing, then they were very likely biased to favor NIMBY viewpoints over those of the general public.
How many people in Colwood do you think Cynthia heard from? How many of you reading this show up to public hearings? The problem is it’s mostly people who don't like developments near them who show up to hearings, and every infill development has at least some people who don't like it. So it’s problematic when councilors see the feedback from those people as representing the general public.
The Canada-British Columbia Expert Panel on the Future of Housing Supply and Affordability report "Opening doors: unlocking housing supply for affordability" (published in 2021 in response to our housing crisis) identified this as a problem, saying:
“An important aspect of governance is the land-use planning process, which offers citizens opportunities to provide input on new development based on both real and perceived impacts. We believe that democratic processes are important, but that overreliance on public hearings to make land-use decisions tends to favor certain voices over others. This can result in perceptions of majority opposition to new development, especially when the citizens most motivated and available to participate in the process generally oppose the development plans.
“This opposition puts political pressure on the elected officials in charge of reviewing the proposals. Its influence strengthens further as those who support or stand to benefit from new housing supply often do not attend public hearings to voice their views and priorities. Such proceedings contribute to a land-use planning system that prevents new housing supply in two ways: first, by restricting or impeding growth as a consequence of lengthy, uncertain and costly processes; and second, by allowing anti-development interests to apply disproportionate political pressure on decision makers.
The report also said, in the section titled “NIMBYism”, that:
… there are invariably vocal groups of residents—particularly neighbourhood associations—that can make it politically difficult for local governments to implement such changes. It is important to note that opponents to development, including but not limited to neighbourhood associations, may not be representative of the broader population. For instance, research has found that in Vancouver and Toronto, members of neighbour associations are more likely to be white, older, more educated, homeowners, who have lived in their homes for longer and hold different policy priorities than the general population. To make inroads toward fairer, more representative discussions on land use and the way our neighbourhoods evolve, it is therefore important to make sure that all voices and interests are able to shape how our cities grow.
Councilors are supposed to lead, not just do whatever a small group of people who happen to show up to a particular hearing tell them to do. So, yes, it is your job to convince the public and to LEAD, Cynthia!
This is just one example of what’s happening in basically every city.
I also remember not too long ago Saanich council voted to send an apartment building to an (optional) public hearing . At that meeting, “council was swayed Monday night by the concerns of neighbours, who said the building proposed by Abstract Developments would be too large and out of character for the neighbourhood.” Saanich councilor Colin Plant justified his vote saying (in response to the NIMBY pressure at the meeting) “it’s very clear tonight, the public has an interest in having a public hearing.”
That seems like a pretty biased view of what the “public interest” is right now and it seems pretty out of touch with the housing crisis we are facing.
In light of the recent housing announcements I felt it was a good time to bring this issue up. We need more people aware of this and pushing our councilors to not forget that their interests should be represented too.

2023.06.08 23:20 No_Ring_2744 Can you briefly exit a country and re-enter?

I am a college student on an one-month exchange program in France, with full scholarship awarded by the French Embassy/Consulate of France. Round trip direct flight tickets had been ordered for me by the French Embassy. In particular, the return flight was scheduled to be on the next day of the end of my program. As it is my first time visiting France, I have asked the embassy (before the start of the program) if I could slightly extend my stay so that I could do some sightseeing before returning to my home country. Since my program is very packed, I would not have the time for this during my designated stay. However, my request was rejected as I was told it would 'violate the terms and condition' of my government scholarship. They told me they would have to cancel my scholarship if I insist on changing the return date. Therefore, I have come up with two possible options: 1. Do not change the date of my return flight, but deliberately missing the flight and purchase another return flight on my own. However, this would be risky and somehow disrespectful. I am not sure if the embassy would find out, and if there would be consequences. 2. Take the return flight as scheduled, but taking another flight back to France on the same day. In other words, instead of purchasing only a single return flight as in option 1, I would have to purchase a round trip flight tickets on my own. Economically, the price of a single return flight and a set of round trip flight are very similar. However, I am not sure if this is allowed by the custom, and if I would face any extensive questioning/troubles in the airport. By the way, my visa does cover much longer than I need so that wouldn't be a problem in theory. I know option 2 sounds stupid, as two consecutive long flights maybe very physically demanding and it is a tremendous waste of time. However, I come from a very hectic field and this is probably my only chance to travel for a few days in the coming 5-10 years. What should I do?

2023.06.08 23:18 coghlanpf LF owner of 2 brown pitbull-type dogs involved in fatal Kanata North dog attack May 28

We just found out that neighbours of ours were walking their small dog 10 days ago around the north/east corner of the Beaver Pond. A middle-aged male wearing an orange Kavanaugh construction jersey had 2 pitbull-type dogs off-leash along the Walden extension who attacked our neighbour's dog, which later succumbed to its injuries.
If anyone can help identify this individual please DM me. The person was picked up on surveillance cameras located in a nearby construction trailer but at a very far distance.

2023.06.08 23:17 Ok-Status-7569 Another LIBAD review nobody asked for

I know I'm not alone when I say my opinion on this album is changing rapidly.
I'm the biggest Avenged Sevenfold fan. I learned guitar by learning Avenged Sevenfold 15 years ago. To this day they are still probably my favourite "modern" band.
When they dropped Nobody and We Love You I thought they were just OK. When the album dropped I listened through once and was scared to even acknowledge it. I avoideded and just wrote it off completely. It just felt weird and made me feel so uncomfortable, like it really challenged me as a listener and I just didn't vibe with it.
Now I've had time to sit with it, I'm on my 5th listen through and honestly I can't get enough of it. I don't think it's perfect, and I don't think A7X wanted it to be.
Mattel, Cosmic, Beautiful Morning and Easier are straight bangers.
I do think the mixing leaves something to be desired, and honestly I thought the same on The Stage. As many others have said the mixing on Nobody kinda kills the song. The outro is incredible. I just hope they try something other than the Joe Barresi/Andy Wallace production and mixing team for the next album. I feel the mixing in places takes away from the actual performances, and makes Matt sound plain bad when I know he's nailing it.
I think Life Is But A Dream (the song) is fucking incredible, I knew Syn could play piano but Jesus Christ. That is just an amazing piece of music.
As others have said, it's an incredibly fun album. Nightmare will always be my favourite album by them because its just so perfect. I think I like this better than The Stage.
Strong 8/10.

2023.06.08 23:16 PM_ME_YOUR_ROBOTGIRL Character Database: The Aeons, Part 2 (VERY LONG)

Character Database: The Aeons, Part 2 (VERY LONG)

Please read Part 1 here if you haven't.

This was meant to come yesterday, but then Limbus Chapter 4 Part 2 grabbed me by the balls.

IX

![img](5c2630n6su4b1 " All progress toward the void All resist the void All will become the void... ")
The Nihility.
An extremely passive Aeon that believes everything is worthless, everything about them is a total mystery. Those that approach its divine body, if they even find the coordinates, disappear. Simulated Universe implies that approaching, maybe even thinking about IX, induces apathy and mental breakdowns.
IX ultimately represents nothingness - the dark side of the Universe that completes its balance, providing non-existence to existence.
Aha once helped the Annihilation Gang try to assassinate it as a joke, but it unsurprisingly ended in failure after the Elation-enhanced Gang members vanished when approaching their coordinates.
IX is the roman numeral for nine. WOW. It's almost certainly meant to be read as "nine", because of the way Device IX's name is structured. I looked for the potential significance of this number but like, nine being a number within the base 10 system we love so much basically means every culture in the universe sees it as significant.

\"Those running away from the past think no one understands their despair. When they finally take a breather, they'll find their future selves staring right at them with bloodshot eyes.\"
Those who manage to share their mentality with IX sometimes earn a glance from them. When this happens, those who fall into despair have their physical bodies self-destruct and become something called a Self-Annihilator, made out of "true nothing". Interestingly, though this initially appears to be a grim fate, Self-Annihilators are somehow still alive and capable of thinking, and it seems implied they can revert to their original forms if they regain hope.
Those, however, who remain steadfast in their beliefs become Doctors of Chaos, who are convinced they can 'heal' IX and make it see value in the universe. They do so by going around the universe preaching that you can derive meaning from it and doing crazy actions in the hopes of inspiring those around them. They also have a hobby of trying to cure Self-Annihilators, and they're pretty good at it.
Device IX is the third Nihility faction, which is so mysterious its existence is straight up questionable. It's alleged to exist in the voids underneath all Reality. The only thing that can really be traced back to them is the "dark web" which allows for the trade of rare and illegal items, and probably other things as well.

Qlipoth

Let the fire that forged the bricks and the ones that laid the wall's foundations be known!
The Preservation, known as the Firmament Arbiter by the Xianzhou.
Their divine corpus is so huge, it has planets orbiting it.
Qlipoth, at one point, was alerted to the "catastrophe of the Finality" and to prevent it, became building a large wall known as the Subspace Crystalline Barrier which isolates worlds from one another (or at least that's the IPC's narrative). They also built the Celestial Comet Wall and the Great Attractor Base, but we don't know what those are for yet.
Qlipoth is very ancient, being a veteran from the Dusk Wars that resulted in the disappearance of all Leviathans. The IPC claims that the Dusk Wars and the Leviathan race ended as soon as Qlipoth ascended, but this doesn't appear to be the case. Furthermore, the IPC also maintains that Qlipoth is the first ever Aeon, which also doesn't appear to be the case (Oroboros says hi)
Whenever Qlipoth strikes their hammer, the Subspace Crystalline Barrier expands, and the IPC has used this as a way of marking time in "Amber Eras", one for each hammer strike. However, the hammer strikes are inconsistent, so how long each AE lasts is different. That makes AEs a terrible way of keeping track of time, but everyone just accepts it anyway because the IPC is obsessed and arguing with the IPC is a really easy way to get on their bad side, which no one wants. On the side, most civilizations use their own timekeeping systems which are generally more accurate.
In any case, it's currently 2158 AE, with 0 AE going all the way back to the "end" of the Dusk Wars, and 0-180 AE being a 'dark spot' with few historical records. The IPC's official stance is that there just isn't much information, but it seems more likely that they're withholding records from that time period, which would indicate something about it makes them or Qlipoth look bad.
The Qliphoth is basically the "evil version" of the Kabbalistic Sefirot, the emanations through which the spirit of God reveals itself. That probably doesn't matter though, because most likely they chose it for the fact that the hebrew name קְלִיפּוֹת literally means 'shell'.

\"Seriously, out of everyone who had faced an Aeon, that old man was the calmest I've seen. Even Screwllum's gears squeaked when he saw Nous...\"
When mortals first became aware of Qlipoth's wall, there were two reactions - the first was to imitate Qlipoth, going around the universe building stuff, and the other was to help them.
The former became the Architects, who travel the universe building stuff and helping protect other civilizations. They were the ones who made Belobog's wall, core, and Engines of Creation. They must receive some implicit endorsement from Qlipoth, because they're able to tap into the Preservation's power to build their things. Generally, most people view the Architects as stubborn, but those protected by their abilities are eternally grateful and even join them.
The other...
So, a bunch of people, including geniuses Louis Fleming and Dongfang Qixing, decided to accrue a large number of construction materials to give to Qlipoth. They did this through trade, but quickly realized that in order to get what they needed, they'd have to specialize in more than just construction materials. Louis Fleming and Dongfang Qixing utilized their expertise to scam and trick establish trade deals and routes with other civilizations, until they had amassed a vast network of trade with themselves as the intermediaries.
In 1388 AE, Louis Fleming and Dongfang Qixing decided to take things one step further and founded the Interastral Peace Corporation (IPC) together, and established an universal currency (credits) that facilitated trade between species, getting rid of themselves as the middleman and also making themselves fabulously wealthy in the process. The IPC integrated themselves into the economy of various civilizations, ruining those who refused to work with the IPC or utilize credits.
As a result of this, the IPC became the most powerful entity in the universe and are very close to being its de-facto rulers - they display deference to only a handful of entities (such as the Genius Society), and even then only because they're too insular (and oftentimes protected by an Aeon) and useful to be manipulated or "coerced" into cooperating. Almost all transaction and trade in the universe is done with the oversight of the IPC and many, many civilizations rely on them for an economical backbone.
They sponsor the creation of new inventions, research that benefits them, and produce their own products while also facilitating the sales of others'. They don't merely preside over trade, they may as well own half the universe. Again, if you cut ties with the IPC, you also lose access to these things. Safe to say, no matter how awful or inconvenient the IPC may get, going against them is simply not an option for all but the most privileged or stubborn few, and those arrogant enough to try anyway will learn the errors of their ways very quickly.
Because the IPC is obsessed with the Preservation, it makes it very hard for anyone to actually study Qlipoth or go against them.
Qlipoth appears to, on some level, approve of what they're doing, since an unknown Emanator of Preservation appeared in the IPC some time ago. However, they don't make use of the vast industrial quantities of construction materials piled up in the planets orbiting them that the IPC provided at all, so in a sense, what they're doing is actually pretty useless. But still, the IPC is fueled by absolute faith to their Aeon.

Yaoshi

![img](tfg6enydtu4b1 " She feels sad For eternal life did not let her accumulate infinite wisdom Instead, those she had once cherished Faded into obscurity over time, never to return ")
The Abundance. Known by the Xianzhou Alliance hunters as the Plagues Author, and by the Xianzhou faithful as Sanctus Medicus.
If we assume that Denizens of Abundance cannot exist without Yaoshi, then they're at minimum ~6900 (nice) years old, and possibly much, much older - the earliest Denizens of Abundance we can date having encountered the Xianzhou at 1200 SC.
Yaoshi's primary goal is the extension and continuous growth of life in the universe. The lightcone Cornucopia implies that Yaoshi views life as a form of order, which opposes the chaos of death and the early universe.
To achieve this, they 'bless' life in certain worlds, causing the sapient inhabitants to become Denizens of Abundance and also causing an outgrowth of powerful and equally long lived plant and animal life alike. Those blessings generally come in the form of great, immortal trees, whose fruit can grant long life. In general, Yaoshi prioritizes worlds and individuals who are experiencing great suffering and hardship.
Yaoshi is the mortal enemy of Lan, although it's hard to say if the feelings are mutual. Yaoshi will never rest until all beings in the universe know the blessing of life, and Lan will never rest until Yaoshi has been killed in the final and greatest hunt. Yet, the cycle goes on for eternity.
Yaoshi is a reference to the Chinese name of a Buddha called Bhaiṣajyaguru, which is a Buddha most commonly associated with healing and medicine, and is also pretty important, being up there with Shakyamuni (aka THE Buddha). He's a doctor who vowed to rid the world of pain and suffering. So yeah, makes sense.

Followers

\"The mercy of Sanctus Medicus, the Ambrosial Arbor's new growth. Disciples shall attain enlightenment together.\"
Those blessed by Yaoshi gain remarkable biology - their cells and biological systems are placed in a state of perfect equilibrium, made possible through the ability for their cells to freely convert between differentiated cells and stem cells (builder cells, which can turn into any other kind of cell). This gives them the ability to effectively, live forever, as well as an extremely powerful healing factor. Though it does not altogether prevent death, it does allow for things such the regrowth of lost limbs and organs. The unfortunate fact of this arrangement is that the body when it is born provides a 'blueprint' for the blessing, making those born with congenital defects forever unable to correct them with surgery - the body will simply "heal" the "damage".
However, there is another aspect to Yaoshi's blessing - upon fulfilling certain conditions, blessed individuals have a marked shift in biology, causing a form of 'evolution' that fundamentally alters their biology. This can fix things such as congenital defects but also essentially puts cells into overdrive, exacerbating existing biological processes of the species (such as molting for reptilian beings) and potentially causing insanity. For the Xianzhou natives, this is known as being 'stricken with mara'.
Those who manage to survive the process with intelligence become known as the Denizens of Abundance who go around singing praises of Yaoshi. However, Yaoshi's blessing also causes fundamental deficits that force those long-life species into either constant suffering or constant conquest in other to offset these setbacks (such as the borisin's implied necessity to take over other worlds to house the hives necessary to create their biotechnology). The Denizens of Abundance love Yaoshi for making their lives "better", and are thus the sworn enemies of the Xianzhou Alliance, which also hates them and are seen (naturally) as blasphemers.
Of course, there are also many civilizations that greatly regret contact with Yaoshi, such as of course, the Xianzhou Alliance.
People who know of Yaoshi but are mortal and long for their blessing are known as Elixir Seekers, immortality hunters who go around the universe hoping to meet and be blessed by Yaoshi. Probably the most well-known Elixir Seekers were, indeed, the original Xianzhou fleet, which was sent out by an unnamed emperor into the stars in order to obtain immortality. Funnily, even though they did get it, they never returned to their homeworld. I wonder what it was like?
The Disciples of Sanctus Medicus were the internal faction in the Xianzhou that worshipped Yaoshi and actively held contact with them, being led by an Emanator of Abundance named Shuhu. Yaoshi did speak to their disciples as well as other Denizens of Abundance and may have even spoken to the actively hostile Alliance as well, but the specifics of this are mired in legend and mystery, and so Yaoshi's true intentions regarding their followers are unclear.

Oroboros

The Mariners' Intemperance
The Voracity.
Wants to eat everything (eats planets), and was a Leviathan, which makes them about as old if not older than Qlipoth. Potentially, they are the only surviving Leviathan.
That's about it. We don't know anything else.
The Ouroboros is a well-known Western symbol with philosophical and alchemical significance that consists of a dragon or snake eating its own tail. Mostly it represents infinity. It was probably chosen though because Oroboros is the dedicated vore god. Cool!

Aha

Look upon the courtesans' extravagance.
The Elation, known as Joyseeker to the Xianzhou.
Hard to tell if it's true, but legend goes that Aha once actually reached the end of the Imaginary Tree. When they did so, they appeared to have gained some sort of advanced perception, and began to view the universe as one huge joke. Perhaps they realized they were made by a video game company? They certainly seem to have some sort of heightened awareness.
In any case, though Aha claims and seems to believe that they only wish for others to see the humor in all things, their true purpose as an Aeon is that they serve as a catalyst of change, manipulating reality in extremely minor and undetectable ways until they butterfly effect massive events into happening. Although the displays of their power are minor compared to Qlipoth's massive wall or Lan's planet purging arrows, their effects on the universe far outweigh the others.
They owe this success due to their closeness to mortals - unlike most Aeons who barely even bother communicating with others and are by nature mysterious, Aha displays a strong understanding of human society, as a matter of fact, they believe it is the exclusive privilege of intelligent beings to understand joy. This understanding allows them to mess around with people on a far more personal level than other Aeons do, even getting involved with other, separate factions if they believe it's funny enough. They're also especially talkative.
Of course, sometimes they decide to be major instead, and do a little bit of trolling. Trolling attempts include blowing up half the Express and an entire planet after hiding out on it for a year disguised as a human (success), helping the Annihilator Gang assassinate IX (failure), trying to get a Noblesse Worm into the Genius Society (failure). And although the latter two appear like failures to us, I'm sure they got great enjoyment out of the bewildered reactions of those observing them.
Aha is laughter, obviously, but it could also be a reference to various things including the 1980s Norwegian band, which composed Take on Me. That sounds stupid but that's Aha for you.

Followers

Well, bye for now. Send my regards to the guys and girls in the tavern.
Aha attracted a group of straightforward followers called the Masked Fools that go around the Universe doing a little bit of trolling, though more specifically they act as agents of change that have been responsible for starting riots and revolutions (including a notable one against Rubert I during the Emperor's War), and they're not above violence. They also maintain taverns and other places centered around having fun and doing trolling.
Simultaneously, however, they also have a group of *anti-*followers called the Mourning Actors, who instead go around the universe being sad, noting the destruction of worlds and death, encouraging celibacy and abstinence, among other things, in the hopes of opposing the Elation. Aha thinks this is hilarious, and also recognizes tragedy as the flipside of comedy, so they purposefully enhanced them, allowing them to travel the stars.
Although the Mourning Actors are mostly ignored by the universe, they possess an uncanny ability for detecting tragedy (probably Aha's fault); they visited Jarilo-VI when it was embroiled in the war against the Antimatter Legion, and they have some use as announcers for when worlds are destroyed or civilizations fall, often being the first to broadcast these events to the universe.
Aha makes basically anything and anyone into an Emanator so long as they think it's funny, so it's not really worth noting here. That said, the one Emanator we do know of was a Noblesse Worm that they infused with super-intelligence to see if Nous would accept them into the Genius Society (they would not)

Fuli

And finally, measure the world against yourself, and take all such things to heart.
The Remembrance.
Fuli's age's unknown, with records of them being essentially non-existent. Their ultimate goal is to preserve all of the universe's memories in order to facilitate "the rebirth of the universe", and they have the memories of every single living being in the universe, including those of other Aeons.
They physically manifest before the occurrence of extremely significant events in the universe's history, and then vanish after obtaining whatever it was they needed from it. When this happens, they appear as a being made out of a mirror-like crystal. Though this has happened many times, their only recorded manifestation was at the end of a speech by the aging Louis Fleming, in his final public appearance.
Fuli is named after a deity in the Shenxiao sect of Taoism. English sources for this are basically non-existent - I put the Chinese wikipedia article through DeepL and got the world's most sophisticated word salad and basically all I could gather is that he was the father of some bigshot emperor. Okay.

Memes: The DNA of the soul
Fuli utilized their power to enhance a specific group of mortals, allowing them to abandon their physical forms and live on as memetic lifeforms (not internet memes, ideas and behaviors that spread from person to person within a society, though HSR basically uses the term as "things that live in your brain"). This allows them to interact with a being's memories and subjective perception directly. It also allows them to freely travel between worlds without any physical effort on their part, which sure is neat!
This faction became known as the Garden of Recollection, with the most active members being the Memokeepers, who preserve the memories of individuals considered significant. They also created Light Cone technology, which allows them to physically manifest and preserve the memory of an individual. Most Memokeepers prefer to keep themselves hidden, disguising themselves and harvesting the memories of others without ever being acknowledged. If a being possesses exceptional memories or qualities such as the Trailblazer, they might choose to manifest and communicate with them directly.
Because the Garden of Recollection members are memetic lifeforms, they can only manifest to people who know about Fuli, the Remembrance, or associated concepts. If you literally don't know anything, you're inaccessible to them. After all, these spicy memes have not been passed on to you.
The Garden of Recollection doesn't have just Memokeepers. It seems some members (or defectors?) known as Memosnatchers go around forcefully taking the memories of other individuals, potentially causing amnesia. Because the Messenger calls them "those thieves", it seems they're not looked highly upon by Fuli's other followers.
Another faction in the Garden of Recollection that draws the ire of the Memokeepers are the Cremators, extremists who steal memories gathered by others and destroy the ones they consider to be useless and return the important ones. In doing so, they believe themselves to act as a sort of filter or curator for the memories of the Aeon, relieving them of their "burden". The stance of the Garden of Recollection is that every memory has value, so obviously the Cremators aren't seen in a positive light.
In any case, the current objective of the Garden of Recollection is preserving the universe against the Destruction, believing that everyone can still live on through memories. Ultimately though, the Garden of Recollection likely existed long before Nanook's ascension, and their greatest goal is to fill Fuli's pure land with memories, which assists Fuli's own ultimate goal... which is unclear to us at the moment.

Idrila

Listen to the infant in the mirror.
The Beauty, known to the Xianzhou as the Wondergazer, and also in some places as Anne Duray.
Though mortals superficially interpret them as a god of beauty, Idrila's true nature revolves around the realm of perception - your conscious qualia (sight, smell, taste, etc), your ability to reason, and the values instilled upon you by your own personal circumstances. The intersection of these attributes is what creates the subjective idea of 'beauty'. In other words, beauty exists in the eye of the beholder.
Idrila cannot create beauty. Instead, they can manipulate these attributes to embody something that's always going to be beautiful to the observer, independently of their tastes. A memory bubble even implies that Idrila is even capable of granting sapience to unintelligent species, creating the conditions for them to be able to observe 'beauty'. Idrila, essentially, allows beings to "observe" the universe in its purest form.
This causes the people exposed to Idrila's power to frequently become intensely obsessed to the point of insanity, and many legends describe those affected by them as committing devastating acts for Idrila's sake - something which gave them a large amount of pleasure. They created civilizations and tore apart people who were in love just by existing.
It's probably safe to say that no one knows what Idrila really looked like, but it was always the most beautiful thing they've seen.
One day, Idrila just up and disappeared. Adios. The Mirror Holders believe that Idrila 'died' and shattered into many pieces, and could return if those pieces are gathered again. The Knights of Beauty believe that Idrila is still very much alive, just... hiding out somewhere, I guess.
I tried to figure out what the name "Idrila" might be derived from, but I couldn't find anything. The Japanese and Chinese characters are phonetic. Anne comes from Anna which comes from the hebrew Hannah which means grace or favor, as in "God graced me with a child". Duray is a significant royal family in France and Scotland which derives from an old French word that means king. So like, King/Queen of Grace I guess. Cool.

\"If I win, please admit that Idrila the Beauty is the most beautiful of all!\" - Argenti
Among Idrila's followers (of which is implied that there are many of), the most tame are the Knights of Beauty, which run around the universe telling everyone how awesome their Aeon is (kind of a trend). They practice a chivalric code which basically says that you can only be worthy of the Aeon GF if you grind hard everyday to become the greatest gigachad of them all. Because of this, other factions in the universe regard them as not having a whole lot of faith in their Aeon. I mean, if you make your entire dynamic a competition to see which of you is the most deserving of getting your god's attention, you're basically saying that your god would never care about most people, right? Only the best ones. Then again, maybe Idrila really is like that.
Idrila, did, however, have more faithful followers, the Mirror Holders, who possess artifacts named Mirrors of Transcendence. These artifacts hold within them some level of Idrila's power, which allows the wielder to project an observer's subjective perception of the most ideal beauty outwards into reality. Usually, the Mirror Holders seem to use this to indoctrinate new people into their thirst cult. A Mirror Bubble implies that the Mirror Holders may also be Emanators, but maybe it's just one person who happens to be both an Emanator of Beauty and a Mirror Holder.
Though the Knights of Beauty hold the delusion that their Aeon GF will someday come back, and I guess decide which one among them is the most fabulous, the Mirror Holders have a different perspective. They believe Idrila 'died' because of society developing differing subjective views on beauty, shattering them into pieces. As a result, they work to make sure society has an unified view of aesthetics, while also hunting down the remainder of Idrila's artifacts. They believe these combined factors will allow their god to return, ushering in an age of harmony where everyone is really infatuated with Idrila all the time. I guess that sounds like heaven to them.

Tayzzyronth

Tayzzyronth... Tayzzy█ronth... Ta█yzzy█ronth... Ta█yzz██y█ronth█... Ta█... █yzzy███ron█th███...
The Propagation. Known as the Swarm Author by the Xianzhou and the Imperator Insectorum in some places.
Tayzzyronth was a very, very lonely beetle who, after getting fed up with being all alone, appears to have developed the ability to self-duplicate endlessly, ascending into short-lived Aeonhood afterwards. What resulted was one of the most severe catastrophes to affect the universe, the Swarm Disaster.
Worlds were invaded and turned into massive hives that to this day are uninhabitable despite the loss of their master. Tayzzyronth's clones slaughtered all living beings in their path, bred endlessly, and moved on to the next world, all in blistering speeds. The scale of destruction was so massive that it actually worried the IPC for maybe the first time since the Emperor's War.
Tayzzyronth seemed close to unstoppable and posed a very real risk of destroying the entire universe, when the sheer intensity of their threat caused an incredibly rare occurrence in the universe - multiple Aeons put their personal missions and differences aside and teamed up to get rid of Tayzzyronth once and for all.
We don't know the specifics of Tayzzyronth's death, but it involved them being encased in an organic prison, which appears to have deprived the rest of the Swarm of the ability to reproduce. After this, something killed them, which put an end to the Swarm Disaster for good.
However, just because Tayzzyronth's dead doesn't mean the Swarm disappeared completely, or that they may never return. The surviving members of the Swarm managed to evolve into different beings, the worlds converted into hives by the Swarm are still to this day impossible to live in, and fragments of the Imperator Insectorum's prison and body still buzz with activity and an energy that makes it very possible they might still return.
Even though Tayzzyronth lived for only a tiny amount of time compared to most Aeons, their destructive impact on the universe cannot be understated. After all, it might even be possible that they indirectly led to Nanook's ascension, due to the Swarm's attempted takeover of Adlivun.
Tayzzyronth didn't seem to have followers, much less Emanators - it seems their own clones were all they ever needed.
I actually feel kinda bad for them. Beetle just wanted a friend.
Can You Believe It, just like Idrila this is another name with no real source. Personally, I think it might just be completely made up, perhaps made to sound like something a bug would make.

Mythus

The Waves as they Enter the Dream
The Enigmata.
Like Qlipoth and Fuli, Mythus too believes that there is some sort of calamity approaching the universe. Their approach to it, however, is a bit different - the Enigmata sees the obfuscation of the past and of observable facts to create a 'mist of uncertainty' that obscures a 'narrative drive' determining the Universe's fate, which would allow everyone to escape that calamity.
Of course, since the Erudition directly wants to observe the Universe and solve it, that would only ensure the opposite, which makes them Mythus' direct enemy.
From latin Mythus. Means myth. Comes from Greek μῦθος (muthos), means tale, myth, legend. It's not that deep.

Followers

To achieve their goal, Mythus appears to random mortals already teetering on the edge of obscurity and 'inspires' them into becoming even crazier than they likely already were. The Riddlers specialize in obfuscating language, whereas Mythus' own personal Emanators, the History Fictionologists, mess with historical records and memories, making certain historical events more confusing, harder to understand, or just straight up inaccessible.
The items created by Mythus' followers possess the supernatural ability to directly affect history, even though history is more or less an abstract concept and those are physical items. As such, it can be assumed that Mythus is granting them their power in this way, which makes them one of the more proactive Aeons.

HooH

The Tipping of the Balance
The Equilibrum.
They merged their consciousness with the logic of the universe itself, hoping to attain perfect universal equilibrium. While many attempt to outsmart HooH and make things unbalanced in their favor, HooH has already accounted for them, and victory is impossible. Even if something is unbalanced now, it'll become balanced eventually, and HooH's patience is unmatched by any other Aeon.
HooH's English name is made up and meant to appear symmetrical, as is the case for HooH's original Chinese name, which is 互. This character means "mutually" or "reciprocally" or "intertwining". It was probably chosen just because it looks symmetrical from the top down, but that last meaning does have the added bonus of fitting with the fact HooH is woven into the fabric of the universe.

Followers

Long Arm
Those who like the cut of HooH's gib become dedicated to balancing the universe, the Arbitrators, who decided they'd try and get rid of extreme binary concepts, placing everything in balance. But because they're mortal, they don't have the great big picture view HooH has, and so they constantly mess up, having to correct their problems in successive "patches".
An Arbitrator talks to you when you reach the first Trial of the Equilibrium, and it seems they possess the ability to alter the entire universe in a scale that's incomparable to the followers of other Aeons. It may be because HooH has somehow managed to integrate themselves into the universe much further than any other Aeon has, and that might explain why Aeons tend to be opposed by those with equalizing concepts, and out of control Aeons tend to get the shaft.
Think about it. Tayzzyronth was a threat, but several Aeons believe Nanook is already going to destroy the universe. Why don't they team up again and kick their ass if so? Well, because they're balanced about it. Nanook's rate of destruction is slow and easy to counter enough that unlike Tayzzyronth, they can't take over the entire universe in years. Therefore, in a sense, they already have a place in equilibrium. For every planet-destroying campaign that takes centuries, Yaoshi and the Architects have already protected 5 other worlds. There's no need for something, or someone, to push them towards correcting that balance.

Ena

I only survived because the spirit of \"fuck it we ball\" burned brighter than the \"it's so over\" around me.
The Order.
An Aeon that was absorbed by Xipe due to conceptual overlap when the latter ascended, which is safe to say, a pretty definitive death (though perhaps some part of Ena lives on through Xipe? I mean, they are a plural Aeon after all)
Ena's only known group of followers are the Beyond the Sky Choir, a choir group that made songs praising the Order. When Ena was absorbed, they effectively disappeared, no longer having a god to worship.
However, the Choir audience did record some of their performances into special disks, that could only be played with unique Phonographs of Order. The problem is, the last Phonograph was lost during Emperor Rubert 1's campaigns, so nobody can ever listen to them again.
As a result, this Path is deader than dead. Maybe the energy's still accessible, but with no Aeon, no followers, and no extant artifacts, it might as well not exist.
Ena is a character from the web animation series ENA made by Peruvian artist and animator Joel- wait no.
Actually, I don't know where the English translators got the name "Ena" from, but their original name is 太一 or Taiyi, which is the supreme deity of Heaven worshipped during the Chinese Han Dynasty. There's a lot to Taiyi, but I'm just going to ignore all of it because it was probably actually chosen because the name literally means "Great Oneness" or "Great Unity".

Long

I didn't know what to put here.
The Permanence.
A Chinese dragon thing, Long died ages ago, but we don't know how. Before they died though, they left descendants in the form of Long's Scions, or the Vidyadhara, which possess the power of the Permanence in their very biology.
Because of this, the Vidyadhara have a very peculiar characteristic - when they reach the natural end of their lifespans, they pull a Turritopsis dohrnii and regress back into an infantile stage, effectively making them ageless. Of course, the Vidyadhara that 'reincarnates' loses all memories of their previous self, making the newly reborn Vidyadhara a different individual altogether, though Vidyadhara culture does encourage seeking a greater connection to your past incarnation. It's also possible they might be able to experience some aspects of their previous lives through dreams.
Vidyadhara, however, cannot reproduce. This means that their numbers are limited and losses to their population (through unnatural means) are permanent. Frankly as far as I'm concerned, this basically means Vidyadhara extinction is inevitable, as statistically speaking they probably wouldn't be able to avoid dying through accidents or intentional acts forever.
Currently the vast majority of Vidyadhara live among the Xianzhou Alliance, and it's rumored that those among them that fulfill certain conditions and pass specific rites can return to the form of a dragon. The High Elder of the Vidyadhara receives strict training in order to one day become the highest among them, the Imbibitor Lunae.
Another thing about Vidyadhara. The fact the Permanence's power flows through their cells allows individuals who have harvested Vidyadhara bone marrow to transplant some of that power into their own bodies, provided that they have the right ingredients to reactivate the stem cells. For regular mortals this only results in a short lived burst of power before their immune system destroys the transplanted Vidyadhara cells, resulting in a catastrophic regression that would most likely lead to death for most individuals.
However, for long-life species blessed by Yaoshi, Long's power can actually stabilize the explosive evolutionary process... allowing those stricken with mara to retain their sanity.
The cost is only a little murder.
Long is the Chinese name for the dragon (or specifically the Chinese dragon which is different from the Western perception). WOW! However, dragons do have great significance in Chinese folklore and culture and were worshipped, so this is a fine name. They also have associations with water, which is probably why the Vidyadhara are also associated with water.

Terminus

The Shapeless Prince
The Finality.
If we ignore bits of CBT2 that were removed upon release and now exist in a canonical limbo, this Aeon is the one we basically know the least about. I mean sure they've been mentioned more than Oroboros has, but we at least know what Oroboros is, and what their objectives are.
Terminus, though? Well, besides the fact that the IPC (and maybe Qlipoth) oppose their goals... we know the name "Terminus" and the Path of "the Finality", and that's it. They encountered Akivili at some point, so they're active somewhere, but that doesn't tell us much.
Terminus does appear to share a bit of a concept with an important HI3 character, the Herrscher of Finality, but there doesn't seem to be any direct connection, and finding actual summaries and information on stuff that happens toward the latter half of HI3's story that aren't too short or badly written to be useful is impossible. I'd have to play the game and read all the side-content, and frankly that'd take me weeks, and this post already took a long time to write as it is.
So we'll take Terminus for what the game tells us about them, which is nothing.
Terminus is the Roman name of a god that presided over boundary stones (his name also refers to those stones), which were meant to mark, you know, boundaries. Like the limits of a region or an area that couldn't really be represented by natural landmarks. Essentially, he was the end of one place and the start of another. Considering that Fuli's lore hints at a cyclical nature to the universe, this is an interesting name.
In Chinese, though, their name is different. It's 末王, which literally means "king of the end". Quite the powerful name.

And that's the end of the Aeon section. Because the manuscript for the mortal characters hasn't been written, it'll take a while longer to come out. Probably a few weeks. If I end up finishing it too close to the release of the remaining Companion Quests, it'll have to wait until after.

2023.06.08 23:16 Throwra_needadvice88 I (34m) have a 6 year relationship with (F35), and I don't know what a healthy relationship looks like. Is this normal, or borderline abusive?

TLDR: I don't know if this relationship is healthy or not. I feel like I am being attacked from inside, as opposed to working against a common enemy. My judgement is impaired, I've never been in a serious relationship of this length and depth, so I don't know if this is normal couple "highs and lows", or something deeper that cannot be fixed.
I apologize if things are out of order etc., I'm not great at articulating my thoughts in a continuous flow at this point, but I need help/advice.
Due to having medical issues when I was younger, I never got into any deep relationships until later in life. I met my partner when I was going through a tumultuous time, but really believed she was the one. I was in a vulnerable position because I was not in the sober state of mind, I was taking opiates due to surgeries.
She is a good person, with a good heart. She treats me well, and goes so far out of her way to do things for me. She is the type that certainly shows love by doing things for me. But I've always felt we've had communication issues, and I am very tuned into the way we speak to eachother etc. So in that way our "love languages" are not aligned (although I don't know if I believe that stuff matters in a way). We talked about it and discussed that we were raised differently. In my view, the way she communicated things was immature and juvenile.
We had the typical honeymoon stage, I moved her into my place quick (within 5 months) because I felt I needed her to get into a better place, and we both had the rose-tinted glasses on. Over the next 2 years, things went well with the exception of some red flags being called out, and ultimately ignored by myself because I thought we could work through it.
She has some abandonment issues, and I am a very reasonable, tolerable person, so I never believed I could "fix her", but always believed I could "help her grow along the way". I helped her go back to school and tutored her through her sciences, I showed her how to take care of yourself financially, etc.
The biggest red flag was she completely violated my privacy/personal space within the first year. When I was working, I came home and noticed she had *carefully* gone through EVERY single possession I had, through all my storage, sentimental and personal items. She also thoroughly scoured through every picture, document, etc. that I had on my computer. I knew because I could see the "recently viewed" tab on the pc was showing photos of my ex that I had not had time to clean out. I confronted her, she admitted to everything. I've never felt more violated in my life.
It felt like, and still does, like she is obsessed with me. Her world kind of melted away into mine. If I wasn't feeling well, she wasn't. I believe I became her world. She has made comments along the lines of, she wouldn't want to live without me, I'm one of the only people she trusts etc.
The other red flag was that I felt that she was constantly testing me (more than what seems normal), and the best example I can give is this: (and this applies still to this day)
We had a fight because I was doing my laundry, and I noticed a pillow in the washer with everything. Never in my life, have I washed a pillow alongside my clothes etc. I confronted her about it, and asked if she put in the washer. She denied 100%, and this grew into the biggest fight I've ever had with someone (over such a trivial matter - a pillow!). I KNEW I didn't put it in there, but she would not admit it, and tried to make it seem as if "I put it in, without realizing, or forgot". This fight concluded with me calling her on all the rest of her shit, and she ended up in tears, and said something to the effect of "this is who I am, I can't help it".
At this point I knew what I was in for, and I very clearly stated that I would only continue if she was willing to work on her insecuity/attachment issues. She HAS grown as a person, I'm proud of her, but looking back now it seems that she just made her passive-aggressive attitude (deeper issues) more subtle.
There is this dynamic where, if I come to her with an issue of her behaviour, she *always* flips it around on me, and makes me the bad guy and now she is the victim - so I'm the one consoling her because she is hurt, and my issue is never really addressed. Every time. So I stopped calling her out, stopped bringing up those types of issues, as it always results in the same thing.
2 years in I got a really bad cancer diagnosis (2019), and she showed that she was committed by coming to spend time with me in the hospital pretty much every day, for months. This has really made feel extremely loyal to her, to the point that I was/am committed to giving her the life she deserved, and that we had planned for.
It's been a rough 3 and a half years since cancer, stem cell transplant, double hip replacement etc. I am at max capacity mentally, trying to take care of myself and stay alive, and I don't have the energy to deal with anything else.
During this time period there were more things that she did, that I ignored (opiates are great for that unfortunately). Like the examples above: Deciding on a movie, she would make me question whether I had seen it before or not. I have memory issues (she likes to point out often) and there are times when I know I've never seen it, and others where I haven't. It's one of those things where she makes me question reality, but mixes it in with the truth (as in, there WERE movies I had actually seen before, but legit forgot and therefore she was proven right). So on my end, I'm not in the right state of mind to question some of these behaviours because I have been proven wrong, so I legitimately can't tell truth from fiction. It kinda feels like I'm being gaslit. Weaving in little bits of a lie with the truth so it becomes obscured.
She disrespects my boundaries. If I say I am busy from 7-10, she will come in to my room at 9:50 for example, "innocently checking in on me". Like I said, these things are subtle.
These issues that come up, don't happen every day - it's spread out over time. She has gotten better over time, but it still persists.
I know relationships take work. I know feelings come and go. Now that I'm off the majority of my drugs, I have become very mindful and present. We have had no intimacy since cancer (an issue itself) b/c of the drugs, but I also feel like I am not attracted to her at this point because my mind keeps coming up with things from the past that I didn't deal with, as well as growing increasingly frustrated with her current attitude some days. The energy can literally change once she comes in the door from work.
My mental health is like a house of cards right now, and I can not put up with disagreements (innocent or not). I had a realization the other night as I was thinking about why I struggle so much with my mental health (other than obvious medical trauma), and I have come to the conclusion that it feels like I am being sabotaged, or attacked within my own walls. As opposed to us fighting a common enemy, and I believe this is fuel for the fire that is my depression.
One of the biggest issues is that, we have finally built ourselves up to a place where EVERYTHING external is finally in a good place (housing, finances, bills, raised a dog together etc.)... Except our relationship! I just don't know if the relationship is able to be salvaged. We have weaved our lives together over the past 6 years, I actually felt guilty the first time when I recently wondered if I'd just be better of alone. But I would lose everything externally built, my dog, and she holds power b/c I'm on disability so she makes the money etc.
I question my judgement and my doubts right now because I have made bad decisions over the years while on opiates. Although I have greatly reduced the amount, and am much more clear headed -I am still on them. So I don't trust myself. Maybe I'm making this out to be worse than it really is...? I have not lived a sober reality in many years. Nor have I ever been, or know what a "healthy" relationship is with regards to ups and downs etc.
So I am asking you, reddit. Is this normal "argument" type shit that every couple has to deal with, and that you "ride out" because every relationship obviously has highs and lows? My future and mental health are at stake, and I don't know what to do at this point.

2023.06.08 23:16 Mission_Ad738 I can't care about anything

My parents wanted me to study this year despite me telling them that I was not capable of it in the slightest and they kept saying that I was more than smart enough to do it. Well, unsurprisingly enough, I am not capable of studying at all, the issue is that, for some reason I am extremely indifferent, to the point where I overdosed at school 10 days after someone else had (in my company, not my proudest moment) and I did it again anyway because I fundamentally can't care about anything, I wasn't even addicted or anything, just profoundly indifferent, I almost died because of how ridiculously much it interferes with my behavior.
I didn't open my books once this year, just like I've been doing for my whole school life (I've never studied, even for oral exams at my finals) because I cannot care, and this is intertwined with the fact that to cope (I guess), I have developed a rich inner world that has always interfered with my level of functioning, sometimes to the point where I've sunk into delirious/obsessive ideas (but I was always aware that I was being delusional) and changed my behavior completely until the "episode" was over (worst one lasted 10 months, and another one lead to me hurting myself and ripping muscles in my mouth out, still kinda hurts).
Now, they want me to change studies, thinking the issue is what studies I randomly chose, and I keep explaining to them that it's really not and that I just can't care about my studies. I think that my issue is also that I can't conceive things, like when I have responsibilities I don't care about them because it just doesn't mean a thing in my mind, and they're angry at me because of that but it's truly something that I have absolutely no control over, I wish I could so something about it but I really can't.
Does anyone relate to my experience of absolute indifference and apathy ? And how do I explain the issue to my parents ? Also, I'm seeing a psychologist in a month or so and a psychiatrist next year, but the psychologist is affiliated to the university and her goal is to help us find what studies we want to do, and since the issue isn't here I don't know if it's truly gonna be useful, but my mom was angry at me when I told her that, saying that I was gonna end up working in a factory (tbh I am too apathetic and indifferent to work at all, in my current state I'm gonna end up homeless and addicted to heroin so I better deal with the issue now).
Thanks.

2023.06.08 23:15 Larry_the_Squidd Dehydration/Cold - Do I need to fear long-term issues?

Hey there!
I'll try making this short:
I got a cold. I still went to work and had to lift heavy loads out in the sun at about 80 degrees all day long. What I drank immediately turned into mucus which I had to blow out as it hindered me at work. I drank 1,7 liters of water and 1 cup of coffee during that time.
When I returned to the company I drank another 1,4 liters within 10 minutes because of severe thirst. And some coworker came up to me and asked me why I was shaking. I didn't even notice. Only my arms shook.
So I checked online whether this was dehydration and well... it turns out it was. I felt exhausted, thirsty, and very sleepy (I really had to focus on driving on my way back to the company in order for me to not cause an accident)
I tried telling my doctor the next day, but he didn't listen, interrupted me multiple times when I tried telling him my symptoms and concluded that was a sunstroke. I had none of the symptoms of a sunstroke.
So this happened yesterday and at home I drank another liter or so. Then I went to bed and got cold shivers all over my body even though I was completely covered in my blanket in my 70 degrees room.
When I woke up I felt completely destroyed, as if moving any part of my body is simply too much. But that went away over the day. I feel mostly okayish aside from the cold now.
To me it seems obvious that I was dehydrated because of the cold. Now the suggestions online all go along the lines of: When you're dehydrated go to the ER immediately or else...
Was this a severe dehydration or merely a light one? And do I have to expect any long-term issues?

2023.06.08 23:15 yoneb Good base game but lacking a lot.

So I'm currently level 87 and had a blast playing but now as the hype is slowing down I'm realizing this game is missing so very important things, things that were present in D3 and are not now which are starting to make the game a little tedious.
Dungeons: Dungeons being the current endgame content that will be the majority of the time played on the game are very lackluster. For starters running to a new dungeon after each one is very infuriating now after doing it for only a few days, granted I've played a lot more than the average player. But still, if you want to farm more than 3 dungeons it becomes very noticeable the time wasted running between. I don't see the problem with the shrine for GRs in D3 or the map device in POE so why does it seem like we have taken a step backward?
Now more about the dungeons themselves, why have we moved from kill progression to these mini-quests? GR in D3 was perfectly fine IMO, grouping packs together into a large group and bursting it was so fun compared to the constant backtracking in the current dungeon system (even worse when playing solo and not in a group). The density in these dungeons is also very poor in most instances and leaves a lot to wish for. My most recent dungeon (renegades retreat) was a kill 3 elites then boss dungeon and it was literally 3 mins of running, 3 elites, and then boss kill.
Tier dungeons feel absolutely pointless other than leveling glyphs. There is no point in doing tier with mobs higher level than you, they are just slower and don't offer enough player or glyph xp to make them anywhere near worth farming. I've done up to 45 and would much rather do 30s for speed.
Tier 32 Dungeon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51MOiW3ARI4
Renown: The renown system in this game is awful, power systems should never be locked behind a collection base system imo, especially when it could potentially have to be completed every 3 months for a new season. I was able to complete all 5 zones to get the 4 paragon points and this took me quite a while. Even with the help of my friends, doing dungeon splits to clear the dungeons a lot quicker it has still taken a lot of time probably close to 9-10 hours. It took me 2 hours alone to collect all the Lilith alters, even while looking at a second screen with a map of them on.
After clearing the full map and completing the zones I was amazed to find that when going on an alt all that had carried over were the rewards for the renown and the 5 major cities' waypoints, the rest of the map was greyed out, could only see dungeons that were shown because of the tree of whispers. This immediately made me not want to progress any alts. I think they need to revisit renown and the map for alts after completing it all on one character.
Gold and materials: There are a lot of materials in this game and half of them I don't even know what they are used for. The only material that I am in constant need of is gold. Unlike in D3 gold is very hard to come by. Unless you are returning to town after every dungeon, which only increases the time it takes to farm dungeons, then it takes a very long time to save gold when you spend over a million to reroll a weapon after a few rerolls. Why is gold no longer a reward for tier dungeons and the high the tier the more you get?
XP: why is it that a world tier 4 Bind burrow's dungeon gives me 700k for a full dungeon that takes me 2-3 mins to clear, but a tier 35+ gives me 850k that I can clear in the same amount of time? In what world does this xp gain make sense? It's more efficient to farm world tier 4 with level 70 mobs than level 90 mobs in tier dungeons, I just don't get how the xp scaling works in this game.

Overall the game feels like it has been a lot more casual player oriented, made for people who only might have an hour or two to play and to make them feel like they have experienced a lot in that time. And for the people who do play a lot more than the casual we now have to suffer with the repetitiveness of some of the systems that are now in the game.
However, with all of this said I am hopeful for this game and think with a few changes to systems that the game will have some longevity to it and I am hoping the first season will bring that.

2023.06.08 23:15 Xcjzero Latency and internet

These couple of days has been weird. I have horrible latency both at my job and my home. I have the best internet and usually I get about 10 latency or 19. Now I get a whole game crashed with 30-50 latency both at my job and home. This has never happen, is this because I went and screwed up a hacker lobby by mistake.

2023.06.08 23:14 YOLO_mode4life I microwave icecream.

The title says it all, before I begin eating any icecream from the freezer, I make sure to put it for 10-30s in the microwave.
I do this because ice cream from the freezer is very hard, and well, cold.
I would like a smoother time scooping with a spoon, and generally find ice that is soft and a bit melted better.
The microwave is the *perfect* solution for this, but I've told my peers about this food habit and they find it quite disturbing. I am apparently a food criminal.
All I want is to enjoy my icecream! One day they'll be enlightend.

2023.06.08 23:14 Cardinalwatch My (26 F) brother (32 M) was Baker Acted today and I just need some advice and to vent

So my brother (32 M) has been struggling for 10+ years with alcoholism. He has been through a lot in the past four years, he was diagnosed as bipolar and had a lot of manic episodes which caused his wife to divorce him last year. Since his divorce, he has been drinking even more and even starting using crystal meth.. He got a blood clot in his leg and was in the hospital for 5 days about 2 weeks ago and he has said that he hasn’t used meth since being out of the hospital.. but he has been drinking heavily. He has gotten 2 DUIs in the past year, so he is on probation and no longer has a license. So he is on probation and has monthly check ins with the probation officer. He went this morning for his check up and he failed the breathalyzer which violates his probation. So now there is a chance he will go to jail. After this meeting, he started threatening to kill himself and volunteered to have himself Baker Acted. I (26 F) am just feeling so heavy and scared that he would actually kill himself. It makes me so sad that his life is this way and I just want to help him get better. I know that no-one gets better unless they make the change themselves but i feel like I am preparing for the loss of my brother. How do you help family who are battling addiction and mental illness? How do you not allow it to weigh you down in the process?

2023.06.08 23:14 ilikethreetwo Want to actually cause Reddit to reconsider their actions, based on your participation? Shred your reddit history!

Hello,
I have been a reddit user for over 10 years, using old.reddit.com/RES, Alien Blue, Reddit Is Fun (when I had an android phone), and eventually Apollo. I have always tried to contribute quality content to reddit, and have long relied on it as a source of valuable information. Reddit influenced my decision to become a software engineer, informed my college decisions, contributed to many of my hobbies, and brought me joy in times when I felt none. Over the years, there have been times when I have disagreed with the direction reddit has taken. For example, the CEO of reddit was caught editing comments of users, and this individual remain the CEO of reddit to this day. Reddit also removed information about an employee of reddit supporting a child sex offender and has seemingly continued to suppress information about her actions. While I agree and understand that reddit has the right to remove any subreddit or comment under its domain, it has increasingly become clear that it intends to do this under a shroud of secrecy, rather than openly disclosing and justifying their decisions.
Reddit is now in its final stage of enshittification. As an active contributor to reddit, what can you do?
Run PowerSuiteDelete! https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite. Go to google chrome on your computer, add powersuitedelete to your bookmarks bar, and then remove your reddit history, ensuring that no one in the future can benefit from your contributions freely. This means reddit can no longer act as a source of information, and loses value to shareholders.
See a video on how to do this here: https://streamable.com/psx62, or visit the subreddit /PowerSuiteDelete.
By removing knowledge from reddit, you damage its ability to act as a well of information, and ensure that it is held accountable for its actions. When a new and more open organization opens up, you can instead contribute there, making reddit a less attractive option.
