2023.06.04 05:45 Fistful-of-Flan Weird bug/glitch with my current character

Just loaded up my current character (maybe like 13 or 14 months in) and somehow he’d reverted back to how he was at month 2… His gear, his skills, his kill count, his time survived. All of it.
As far as I can tell, the world map is still the same as it was when I played last night, but with a lot more zombies in places that should definitely be clear. The map looks pretty up to date too.I didn’t even load back in where I logged off last night and where the save thumbnail showed, but instead spawned back at my base.
The only things I could think of that could’ve caused it between now and last night were adding authentic z lite and an autostar mod that added a jeep or something… Neither of those should’ve really affected my character though, I don’t think.
Kind of worried something got corrupted, but it just seems like a weird thing to happen when the game constantly saves over itself. I guess I could always just cheat my skills up, hoping the traits I’d earned come with it and spawn my current gear back in, but I’d definitely like to get the original character back… anyone have any ideas?

2023.06.04 05:42 jenn12765 Should I keep my car with problems or trade it in and take a loss? Can someone help determine how much I will be out?

Background info: 26F in TN, wrecked my old car in December of 22 and had to quickly buy a replacement car. I stupidly went alone to a dealership after finding a car on autotrader I wanted to take a look at. A 2021 Hyundai Elantra with 8600 miles.
I was talked into getting it that night. The car wasn't starting that night which the salesman assured me was due to the lights being left on. I bought it that night anyway. Yes I know I am stupid. I know in the future to get an inspection on a used vehicle before buying.
I took a loaner home that night. The salesman was texting me the next day saying that there were some "fuse" issues that needed to get looked at with Hyundai and they would schedule it but I could take it home in the meantime. I went and picked it up. Yes I know I am stupid.
I noticed the blind spot wasn't working and the reverse sensor wasn't either. These were the "fuse" issues. I scheduled an appt with Hyundai the soonest available in March. When I finally got it checked out by Hyundai (4 months after buying) they told me the car had been in a wreck (not on the CarFax) and there was no blind spot module and the bumper had bondo in it. Hyundai recommended replacing the bumper. That plus a new blind spot would cost $4,000.
I called the original dealership and spoke to them and they told me to take it to them to check it out. I brought it in and they had it for 3 weeks and they did replace the blind spot but that is it. I asked them to take back the car for what I paid for it (nicely) and he (nicely) said that they would not because it had been so many months. (This was because of scheduling issues with Hyundai)
I was okay(ish) with all that (except feeling stupid about the damaged bumper). Until I was cleaning out my trunk today and lifted the trunk liner and there was about two inches of standing water around the spare. I had noticed my stuff in the trunk kept getting moist but I assumed that I spilled something or a drink can had burst at some point. So there must be a leak somewhere, possibly in the damaged bumper?
Anyway, I don't feel like I should go back to the dealership because I feel like they are washing their hands of me and they won't fix it. (because they don't have to because it is an as is sale).
Here's the details of the sale: Purchase price: $25,500 Downpayment: $3,000 Taxes: $2,800 ish warranty: $2,500 (later refunded) Gap: $1,000 (refunded due to refinance) Insurance paid out on my totaled car: $8,000 Total financed in the beginning: $29,000 ish After the refunds and insurance money I now owe: $16,500 ish My monthly payment: $338.02
I don't want to keep the car any longer because of the sour taste in my mouth on the whole deal. I am wanting to downgrade cars and get something around $15k-$20k.
I want some advice on whether I should just keep my car or trade it in on something cheaper.
KBB says it is worth around 21,000. If I trade it in now, am I losing the original sales price (25,500) minus the current value (21,000) so 4,500? Or should I include the taxes as a loss too? Is this a lot to be out? My new monthly payment would be around $200, so would save $138 a month.
What are some other things to think about?

2023.06.04 05:40 cyberpunk707 Some thoughts/opinions on Roadside picnic version of the Zone compared to the games

I just finished reading Roadside picnic for the first time yesterday and it was great. I especially like the way the book portrayed the zone very differently compared to the many game adaptations like Stalker, Chenobrite, into the radius, etc.
In my opinion, the RP version of the Zone is not only mysterious, but also much more terrifying than its variations. So I want to talk about some major difference s I found after reading the book (shouldn't be much of a spoiler since its just world building stuff)
1) Origin of the Zone
Unlike stalker and other adaptations where the Zone is man-made or came from man-made disaster, the Zone in RP have alien origin, caused by first-contact event known as "the Visit". Which, weirdly enough, I actually find it more believable somehow compared to the whole noosphere thing.
2) Danger of the Zone
From my perspective, the Zone in RP is also a much, much more dangerous and terrifying place compared to the game.
In the game, sure there are phenomenons and artifacts that can kill you as well as mutant and monsters. However, it is still very much traversable by humans. As a result, half the danger in the Zone actually came from bandits and enemy factions, that is, other human instead of the Zone itself.
In the book, however, the Zone is a much more unforgiving place. Guns are basically useless in the Zone since 99% of the danger can't be solve with lethal force. It is so bad that, if you just walk a couple feets away from a marked route, you could be instantly crush by anamolies or worse.
Stalkers have to rely a lot more on their instinct and experience to survive rather than their combat skill. Many times having to use the remains of dead stalkers to mark places that are not safe to go.
Anamolies are also harder to spot. For example, let say you see a can of soda in front of you, but its shadow is a bit darker that normal, the can color is wrong, you cant regonize the brand, etc. That can of soda could be your death sentence if you aren't observant enough.
3) consequences of the Zone for stalkers/survivors of the Visit
Being a long-time stalkers or survivor of the Visit event in Roadside picnic is a fate worse than death. Not only do you only get small sum of money selling artifacts, but both you and your future children will also be mutated by the Zone, even to the point where you could no longer be called human in many cases.
As if that's not enough, the Zone also caused many of the survivor of the Visit, called emigrant in the book, to become a walking anamoly. If an emigrant go to live somewhere else, the rate of natural and unnatural disasters there will spike, people who interact with the emigrant will all die within a couple months, etc.
4) Conclusion
To sum up, going into the Zone at all seems like a totally bad idea in the book. Its a kind of place where it is better to just send in robots/remote control machine in rather than flesh and blood human.
I don't know how hard it is to recreate that kind of dangerous environment in a game, but it would be cool if future games can adapt more from the book in term of the various danger of the zone. Don't get me wrong, stalker is still a pretty hard game, it's just I wish the Zone itself is more of a danger as well like in RP.
TLDR: if the Zone in the game is a dangerous place, then the Zone in the book is a monster.

Whats going in everybody! I’m almost there! Up first I have a Kizer Cormorant TI scales with m390 blade steel. Perfect fidget knife! Did not carry this one. Perfect sharp factory edge. Opened a few times and realized it’s not for me and right back into the box it went. Letting go for SV$120
Up next are some Pm2 scales. First I have a pair of shredded carbon fiber with what looks like green shiny intertwined. Probably butchering the description of these but they look really good in the light. See attached video of them. They are from a maker by the name of “Aramis Akhmedov Design”. SV$50
Next is a Pair of lightish blue aluminum scales I initially bought from here thinking I was use them, however I decided to to go a different route. SV$25
And last but definitely not least are 2 pairs of textured black Pm2 scales. Original scales off of Pm2s I’ve just customized and no longer in need of them. SV$15 each
Add on only: a 3d printed black Pm2 backspacer. Received on a Pm2 i recently bought but I already had a different material backspacer waiting for this custom. SV$10
