2023.06.08 23:43 triplethreat8 Will it be bad for my career to apply for new position 2 months after starting my current position?

First off I don't actually work for the ministry but I do work for the provincial government. I figured this sub may have the most relevant advice.
So I started my job 2 months ago and I enjoy it but recently I was approached by a manager that encouraged me to apply to an open position. I currently work for a regional division and this job would be at the provincial level. The pay is better, it's a FTE role instead of contract (current 2 year contract high likely hood of becoming FTE at end), and I think I'll enjoy it just as much. The issue is I feel really bad about quitting this role so soon and worry about damaging my opportunities of I don't get it. I wouldn't even really consider leaving if it wasn't for the same organization. I like my manager and coworkers and don't want to put them out.
Should I apply? If I don't get it do you think this will damage my opportunities on my current team? If I do how should I go about letting my manager know in the kindest way possible?

2023.06.08 23:42 SwonRawnson Email Marketing

So I want to preface this with everyone gets spam emails no matter what. You accidently sign up for something, you're going to end up with an email promoting something. It's exactly like junk mail from when we were kids and our parents would immediately throw it out, or buy something stupid we didn't need. It's just going to happen. Why not send emails yourself and get a cut of the commissions that companies get for annoying you?

So I have been using cliqly for about a month now. It's basically sending email to a list of people you are given that have already signed up for information. It is a combination of offers for products and information about cliqly. So I was a bit skeptical at first but I thought ehh fuck it why not. They give you about a weeks worth of credits when you sign up. That kind of teaches you how to do it and gives you time to play with it before you pay. They way I thought of it was, well fuck it im playing with house money, I don't need to buy anything if it doesn't work. After the first week I was sitting at about $75. All I did was send emails at different times during the day. That ALL this is. It cost $97 to upgrade your account to where you can send out more emails, and they give you like 2 millions credits or some huge number like that. I told myself, if I got anywhere near $97 with the free credits I would upgrade. What's a hundred bucks? I've spent $100 some really stupid ways. The way the credit system works is kind of like Dave and Buster credits. You buy credits, you play games, you win prizes. Instead of winning prizes, you get cash, and instead of playing games, you take 5-20 minutes a day sending pre written emails. After I upgraded, I spent another $120 or on more credits, because they had a deal going. It seems like they ALWAYS have a deal going, so it seems like you will always pay about $60 for more credits when its advertised at $97. honestly its probably designed that way to make you feel like you're getting a deal, regardless, you have to buy more email credits to continue sending emails. I am about to cash out for my second time now, and honestly, if you want to take the time and build a list, it can be a really lucrative side hustle. You have to hit $300 to cash out for the week, and if you don't make it to $300, it rolls over until you do hit that mark. So while this CAN sound scammy, its not. Its about consistency. I'm not bringing hundreds of thousands of dollars, but I think after doing this for a year or so, it could actually start to bring in a nice amount of money every month. This does NOT use your email address to send emails. You sign up with your email, but it send privately through cliqly. This is not a get rich scheme, this is a time game and like the dave and buster comment I made earlier, the more you do with it, the more you can get.

Here is my link to get started. I will say this video/page here looks INCREDIBLY sketchy. BUT the bald guy actually does a somewhat decent job at explaining how it works, but honestly, doesn't even get half of it. IT has the BS timers and all that, and of course they mean nothing. I really don't understand why they set it up that way, but its actually a pretty nice system.
https://turnkeyemailbiz.net/cliqlytrialv1?c=24600

TLDR: Sign up, send emails with free credits, upgrade, and start making money. This is NOT an immediate money maker, it will take a month or two to get it working for you.

2023.06.08 23:40 erynnt I got chased by a car yesterday

I, a 23 y/o woman, was chased by a very large and aggressive man in a lifted shitty SUV yesterday. It was possibly the worst experience of my life, and now I am struggling to feel safe.
I was riding in the middle of the day, and while crossing the street at a pedestrian crossing (other cars had stopped). I saw him coming fast down the road, so I stopped outside of his lane because I knew that he wasn't paying attention. At the last second, he slammed on his brakes and skidded to a stop. He yelled "WHAT THE FUCK", I flipped him the bird and crossed the road. I went on my way, not thinking much of it.
I got about two blocks down when I hear the screech of tires and see him speeding around a corner in front of me. He speeds closer and I start PEDALING. He whips the fastest uturn that I have ever seen and is now behind me. I see a van full of people parked ahead and I scream "help me! This guy is following me!" My heart is beating so fast. He starts yelling at the top of his lungs, threatening me and saying that I should stay out of the road, and that if I want to make this an issue, he will make it an issue.
He eventually drives away after the people in the van get out and start defending me.
My problem now is how will I feel safe cycling in the future? If I had been alone, I would have been fucked. He could have killed me, even though I was on the sidewalk and in a populated neighborhood. I love cycling, and don't want to give it up, but I am honestly terrified.
Has this ever happened to you? How should I prepare in the future?

2023.06.08 23:40 f12getmoney Summer student extreme pay delay

I began a summer student position on May 15th. It took 2 weeks for the system to recognize me as an employee, and I only received my PKI and WIN ID last week. Now that everything is in order and I can access everything, I’m at a loss as to why I still haven’t been paid. I was told that I would get everything today, during the second pay day of my employment, but nothing. My manager is on it, but I was wondering if anybody else has had a similar experience. It’s really starting to stress me out.

2023.06.08 23:40 Most_Refrigerator53 My boyfriend (29M) of nearly 4 years won't propose to me (26F)

My boyfriend and I are about to turn 27 and 30 in few months. We have been dating over 3.5 years, going on 4. We have been living together for a little under three years. We both love each other very much and have talked in depth about getting married and having kids for several years now. For years we have basically been living like a married couple as it is. I cook all of our meals, clean the house, do laundry, and he pays the large bills, fixes our cars when needed, does all repairs on our house, etc. I host his family for holidays and events and help them with other things, as does he with my family. We have a great relationship and rarely argue, and when we do argue, the fights aren't nasty and messy, as we both respect each other very much. Yet despite all of this, he will not propose to me. It's breaking my heart and making me start to resent everything I do for him on a daily basis.
In our group of friends, every other couple that has been together for the same amount of time or less than we have is already married with children or at the very least engaged. When we go to events, I feel so upset seeing all of these girls having their men make such a commitment to them, while I'm doing everything I can for my boyfriend day and night for years and still apparently am not yet worthy of a ring.
For background, we both have solid careers. I have finished my masters degree. My boyfriend alone makes about 200K a year and owns a beautiful house in which we live in together. So this is not a financial issue or a matter of waiting to have a house, etc. About a year ago, he started dropping hints about proposing and talking about what kind of wedding we would have etc. I was so excited and hopeful that this would be the year. But as the months passed and holidays and milestones continued to come and go, I grew more and more disappointed. Every holiday, special dinner, etc. I'd think "Okay, this is it! This will be the night!" and time and time again, the proposal never happened. A few months after our 3 years anniversary after we went to a party where I was just about the only female without a ring on my finger, I finally broke down crying about how sad I was. He seemingly could care less, told me he has a plan and will do it when he's ready. I have broken down a few times since this and he basically tells me I'm ruining the surprise and it'll happen when it happens. I have expressed my sadness that there is no element of surprise left, as it is now a mere waiting game, and he just rolls his eyes and laughs and takes it as me nagging. It upsets me that he doesn't seem to care about how much this upsets me. Perhaps if I did not give him so much of myself so soon I wouldn't be in the position I'm in now. It's like the saying goes "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free".
TL;DR!- been living with my boyfriend for 3 years and he still won't propose to me.

2023.06.08 23:40 TheBone_Collector How should I set up this business?

Hi PFC, long-time reader, first-time caller.
Long story shirt, I am starting a company that specializes in first aid instruction. There are 2 other people (friends/cow workers) who will be involved at the begining. We have a lucrative contract lined up, and I plan to expand the company somewhat in the future to capture more large contracts, and here is where my questions come from.
There are 3 of us and 1 office staffer. We are also debating having a 4th person as an employee "extra trainer" to be available when we need him. This company will be based in Alberta. The contract will be paid in full up front.
I have never started a business before, but I am the one driving this forward. My first step was going to be to go to an AMA registry to discuss this, but I'd like to have a better idea of what I should do so I wont walk in blind. Here is what I want to know:
My hope is that we can each take a small chunk at the start (approx 10% of contract ammount) and divide it between the three of us. Then park all the rest in a HISA at wound 5% until the work is done (about a year) and then pull the rest out and divide it between us three.
Help a newbie maximize his contract windfall by establishing a small, smartly organized, money making, tax fighting machine.
Thanks!

When Will Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Be Available On Netflix? Unfortunately the movie Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is not yet available on Netflix. Follow us on Facebook to see when Transformers: Rise of the Beasts becomes available on Netflix!

Transformers Rise of the Beasts is too busy shaking cinema walls to be on Netflix just yet. But we’ll keep an eye on the streamer’s catalog and let you know if the new Transformers outing does show up in the future. The streaming giant has a massive catalog of television shows and movies, but it does not include 'Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.' We recommend our readers watch other dark fantasy films like 'The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.'

Is Transformers: Rise of the Beasts coming to Disney Plus?
Transformers Rise of the Beasts is not on Disney Plus, and we doubt it will end up there any time soon. The new Transformers movie is a Paramount production, so it’s not likely to end up on the streaming arm of a rival studio. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the latest installment in the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts franchise, is coming to Disney+ on July 9th! The simple answer is, probably not, since Paramount Pictures make “Transformers” films, and so this means that the new movie will be streaming exclusively on Paramount+, following a theatrical and digital release.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Will Stream On Paramount+
Transformers: Rise of the Beast is expected to be available to watch via streaming on Paramount Plus by September 9, 2023. Paramount+ is where Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will stream upon its release. Paramount has been in charge of the Transformers movie franchise since it began in 2007 and thus is responsible for releasing every entry in theaters. While the studio might have previously sent its movies to other streaming services like Netflix, the shift to focus more on the development of its own streaming service Paramount+ has changed this tactic. That is why Paramount has released its other major recent blockbusters like Top Gun: Maverick or Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves on Paramount+ after their theatrical runs conclude.

Want to know how to watch the Transformers movies in order before Rise of the Beasts roars into theaters? You've come to the right place. The seventh entry in Paramount Pictures' Transformers film franchise arrives in cinemas worldwide on Friday, June 9, so you don't have much time left to watch its predecessors at home. But, if you're planning to cram them all in before catching Transformers: Rise of the Beasts this weekend, we're here to help you work out how to watch them in chronological and release date order, and we'll also tell you which of the world's best streaming services have them as part of their movie libraries.

So, if you're ready to be reunited with Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and company – and get the lowdown on every Transformers film to be released so far – read on.

Here's How and Where You Can Watch All of the Transformers movies
The best place to start is finding out where you can watch all of the Transformers movies in order in the comfort of your own home. If you're subscribed to Paramount Plus, that's your answer – well, for five of the six films, anyway. Paramount's primary streaming platform is home to the Michael Bay-directed trilogy – Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and Transformers: Dark of the Moon. The streamer's film library is also home to the two Mark Wahlberg-starring flicks, Transformers: Age of Extinction and Transformers: The Last Knight.

● Transformers (released on July 3, 2007)
● Revenge of the Fallen (released on June 24, 2009)
● Dark of the Moon (released on June 29, 2011)
● Age of Extinction (released on June 27, 2014)
● The Last Knight (released on June 21, 2017)
● Bumblebee (released on Dec. 21, 2018)

Potential users looking to watch this quintet of movies will want to check out our Paramount Plus price guide to see how much it costs to sign up. Alternatively, you can get the lowdown on whether a Paramount Plus free trial is available, so you can try the service out without paying any money to stream the movies. Unfortunately for Paramount Plus UK and Australian-based users, the sixth entry in the action sci-fi franchise, 2018's Bumblebee, isn't available on British shores as part of the package.

US subscribers can catch Bumblebee on Paramount Plus (and Fubo, for what it's worth), but UK and Australian fans will have to look elsewhere to get the full Transformers movies in order experience. Here's where UK and Australian viewers can watch Bumblebee instead:

● Australia – rent or buy via the Amazon, Apple TV Google Play, Microsoft, or YouTube stores
● UK – rent or buy via the Amazon, Apple TV, Google Play, Microsoft, Rakuten, Sky, or YouTube stores

Will Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Be On HBO Max?
No, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will not be on HBO Max since it’s not a Paramount Pictures movie. Last year, the company released its films in theaters and on the streamer on the same day. However, they now allow a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the streaming release.

Disney may have made billions with last year’s mega-blockbuster Avatar: The Way of Water, but for now it’s going to share the streaming success. The Steven Caple Jr. directed sequel is coming to streaming on September 11 and though the film was distributed by Disney, Disney+ won’t be the only place to see it. You can see it there as well as Max, aka HBO Max.

Is Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Available On Hulu?
Viewers are saying that they want to view the new animation movie Transformers: Rise of the Beasts on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. It will be exclusive to the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.

No, 'Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' is unavailable on Hulu. People who have a subscription to the platform can enjoy 'Afro Samurai Resurrection' or 'Ninja Scroll.'

When Will Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Be on DVD and Blu-ray?
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will likely be coming to DVD and Blu-ray around the same time as the streaming release. With theatrical films, on average, coming to streaming sooner than ever (usually ninety days after theatrical release), we'll likely see Transformers: Rise of the Beasts get a DVD, and Blu-ray release no later than Fall 2023. Transformers Rise of the Beasts isn’t on Blu-ray yet but will join the rest of the franchise on disc before the end of 2023. There are plenty of fancy releases and box sets of the other Transformers movies, so we’re sure this one will be available to buy in all of its 4K glory very soon.

What Transformers: Rise of the Beasts About:
Optimus Prime and the Autobots take on their biggest challenge yet. When a new threat capable of destroying the entire planet emerges, they must team up with a powerful faction of Transformers known as the Maximals to save Earth. For a while, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts looked like it might be another Bumblebee--a Transformers movie that lacks any of the pizzazz of the Michael Bay flicks but which actually tells a decent story about characters you actually care about. For the first 45 minutes to an hour, we get the most compelling and relatable version yet of the story about a regular person accidentally becoming friends with an alien robot who was secretly a car. But then the plot really kicks in, and suddenly we're watching a Michael Bay Transformers movie--but without Bay's skill as an action filmmaker.

It’s a tale as old as time: A human character stumbles upon a group of Transformers that includes Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) and Bumblebee (voiceless yet again), and gets roped into their battle with an evil faction, which inevitably involves a race for a piece of Transformers tech that has the power to destroy the world.

2023.06.08 23:38 kreebob 2023 Model 3 RWD w/ No Upgrades - 1 Month In - My Feelings

I've been noticing a number of folks on this sub who are on the fence about the purchase of a Tesla Model 3 RWD. I purchased and took delivery of mine 3-4 weeks ago and wanted to share my thoughts.
To start, I go the most basic version you can get. Pearl White with 18" Aero Wheels and Black Partial-Premium interior. I'm coming from a 2009 Mercedes E Class so this is my first car purchase is over a decade. Even at the most basic version of the model, the cabin experience is amazing. Quiet, comfortable, and everything feels high quality. You get 95% of the same features of a M3P but for a much lower price. From the Tesla app, to the charging experience, to the exterior look and feel, the car has exceeded my expectations in every facet.
This is also considered the "slow" model but you could've fooled me. My favorite thing about this car is the instant acceleration and smooth-as-glass ride. It is indeed like a small space ship. And for the money, after rebates, is a major value. Prior to looking at a Model 3 I was testing out more conventional brands hybrids and they were all just MEH at best. Cut to my first test drive of a Model 3 RWD and I was instantly sold. And when you factor all of the federal and tax incentives you get with the Tesla over a conventional hybrid, it really is a no-brainer.
I went from driving hardly at all, to looking for excuses to get in my car every day. With the home charger installed, I feel like I'm somehow cheating the system.
Do I regret not paying more for 19" wheels? NO. I love the fact that I can go Aero Covers or Mag wheels depending on my mood. I bought lug nut and center wheel caps to give a sportier look when off.
Do I regret not paying more for a different color? NO. I didn't realize the white finish is actually slightly pearlescent, not flat white. With the black trim and blank tint, it's downright slutty.
Do I regret not paying more for the Long Range battery? NO. I have the charger in my garage which gives me 272 miles of range which is far more than I'll ever need between my house an a Supercharger. The LFP battery in the RWD is also a bit of a bonus as I'm learning because of it's longevity and ability to charge to 100% consistently.
Do I regret not paying more for the faster Performance version? NO. I'm already pushing the speed limit every time I get in it and having a blast. Anything faster and I'd probably get in trouble.
Do I regret not paying more for a white interior? NO. I have kids.
Do I regret not paying more for Advanced Autopilot or FSD? NO. I will add these later when I feel the software is further along.
TL;DR: Been driving a basic White 2023 M3 RWD and it's the coolest car I've ever owned.

2023.06.08 23:38 Muted-Yoghurt-4143 Can you bill someone for breaking your item

One of my friends started a fire in my dads grill and lighted bottle rockets in it. The grill is damaged and we have been trying to clean and fix it. I want to know if we are allowed to bill them. And if they dont pay can we bring them to civil court?

2023.06.08 23:36 peppiano Should I buy a new (used) car?

Hi everyone! Hoping to bounce some ideas off y'all. My husband and I are 28 and we just bought a house in October and had our first baby. Our mortgage is $2k per month, but my MIL lives in our converted garage and pays us rent, so we pay 1.5k per month. I make about 4k per month after taxes, and my husband makes about 2k per month, but he will probably make about half that as he plans on going to part time later in the year to care for our daughter. We have 20k in a HYSA, ~30k in my pension, and then he has a 401(k) but I don't think there's a lot in there. We just started a 529 for our baby. We have no car loans, student loans, credit card debt, etc, just our mortgage.
We both have to commute to work. I have to drive to work three or four days per week and he has to drive in four days per week. We have a pretty reliable 2016 Kia Soul, but my problem is my 1992 Ford Ranger. I love my truck for sentimental reasons (it was my late favorite Aunt's) and I've kept it in really good shape. For a thirty year old truck it's pretty great and has been my daily driver. Late last year my transmission went out and even though it was probably a bad financial decision, I replaced it. So, I've sunk a lot of money into it. I'm worried my sentimental love for it might be clouding my judgement.
This week my truck had to go to the mechanic again. The check engine light was on, the power steering pump is going out, etc. All in all they quoted me 2k to fix what it needs. I did the bare minimum to get the light off and told them I'd think about the rest. So, I'm thinking. Do I continue to pour money into it? Maybe at this age it shouldn't be my daily driver. It's not the safest vehicle, I don't want to put my baby into it. And maybe it's not the best financial decision to keep driving it.
I was thinking about getting a used car, maybe in the 10k range. Just something in good shape and reliable that I can put my baby in. I don't really want to go to a dealership. I was thinking I'd do a private sale and then have a mechanic look at it before I buy. That would leave us ~10k in our HYSA, depending on the price of the car.. I'm concerned that that's not a very large emergency fund. We just replaced our AC in our home I think we will need to replace the water heater in the next year, and the roof maybe in 5-10 years. Other than that I don't anticipate major house expenses soon, but expect the unexpected right? And with a new baby I don't know what to expect. I also know it's not a great time to buy a used car, but I'm not sure it's going to get any better.
And then I'm left with the decision of what to do with my truck, since the thought of getting rid of it entirely gives me anxiety, but I guess that's a separate problem. Any other ideas that I haven't thought of yet? Advice? Thank you guys, I know this was a lot of reading! Writing it all out helps me think about it too.

2023.06.08 23:36 Existing_Salad6889 9 months NC. But I might be forced to reach out to my ex.

Whilst still with my ex, I made a certain purchase for her that I would have to pay off on a 36 month contract. My recent employment situation means that I won't be able to make the payment this month. It's not a ridiculous amount of money but it is money I will need at least until my situation changes. So I have two options, deprive myself of those funds or contact her and let her know that she'll have to take over these monthly payments until the situation is resolved, as she is using the item in question. I've done really well going full no contact, I've ignored calls, her using friends and family to try to reach out and now I might need to blow all of it which isn't a great feeling. Plus I know she's going to use this to try to start talking to me about my work and life..and I just don't want to give her an inch because she'll want to take the whole mile.
My whole mentality has been that it will be too soon if I never see nor talk to this woman again. The breakup did a number on my mental health which ultimately led to me being in this situation to begin with. And even though I'm in a tough spot financially I'm surprisingly positive about that aspect of my life, certainly my outlook on life is a lot better than it was half a year ago. I cherish and want to protect the peace I've carved out for myself and she represents the greatest threat to all of it.

2023.06.08 23:35 Tryng2bebetter Children's Hospital in Aurora used a collections agency to sue me for a $14,000 debt , for a 5 hour emergency room visit.

This is very long. Read if you wish. Something has got to change, though. Medical care and debt in this country is frightening. Children's Hospital in Aurora does not care about what they're doing to families.
Back in 2021, my husband and I moved from FL to Aurora, where I was starting a new and fantastic job. Since I left my previous position , and the move was the end of January I did not sign up for a new healthcare plan at my job I was leaving. My new insurance for the family was to begin 2/1. Myself and family would be without insurance for 5 days. Unfortunately, I was not eligible for COBRA either way, as the old job was switching Insurance companies and I declined coverage as I would have only been there for a week with it.
We were in our new home for less than 2 days, when my son had a medical emergency. I will not say exactly what it was due to privacy, but it was important that my son get to the ER right away. We could have walked but we drove the 1 minute to Children's Hospital as we really didn't have much of a choice on the matter.
We were in the ER and done with a very quick and easy "surgery" within about 5-6 hours and discharged. Not having insurance, I knew it would be costly but they told us after a few weeks the total bill was over $14,000. This was just the hospital charges, the provider charges were around $5,000.
We talked to the hospitals financial people, and found out we did not qualify for any discount because we "made too much money". We don't qualify for medicaid of course because we "make too much money". I then called a week or so later to try and set up a payment plan for what we could afford. The hospital financial people said what we were offering to pay "wasn't enough" per month. Extremely frustrated, I then waited about 2 months again to try and reach out to the hospitals financial services , emailing back and forth to no avail. In the interim, we did have Insurance that started after the 5 days without and my son broke a limb. We had additonal copay charges now that were not correct and I asked them to correct this, but started to recieve radio silence. Literally no one from Children's would answer me. For the past 2 years I had been periodically trying to email and discuss payment and the bill, but no response.
Finally, I started to recieve collection notices from BC Services. One of the notices said they were going to sue us. I immediately called and emailed them, leaving a message saying I was trying to work this out with Children's. They never responded to me appropriately. I reached out to Children's again, no response.
Well, knock on our door yesterday from an Adam's County Sherrif Deputy. Served us with papers from BC services on behalf of Children's Hospital.
Sued for our child's medical debt, $14,000 for 5 hours of an emergency room. Disgusting. All because Children's Hospital refused to help us in any way or let us pay them $300/month.
TLDR; was without insurance for 5 days. Child had an emergency, took him to Children's Hospital. Was there for 5 hours and charged over $14,000. Children's refused to help us or take $300/month and sent us to collections who served us papers from a Sherrif Deputy.

2023.06.08 23:35 ShunyataBhavana How Meditation Can Help With Addictions

As Step Eleven of the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous implies, meditation can help us to be sober from, and otherwise have a healthy relationship with, addictive behavior. Meditation is, in its essence, a spiritual activity, and true spirituality and addictiveness are mutually-exclusive opposites.
One way that meditation and mindfulness can be helpful with taming addictions is similar to the ways in which we focus the mind in meditation, continually bringing it back when it wanders away. Similarly, we can stay mindfully grounded in the moment without being hijacked by our addictive urges.
Compelling addictive and compulsive temptations tell us, "this impulse to act is my true and best self", but, really, they are just passing whims. We can start to untangle those urges, becoming aware of the internal mental talk and images about what how important it is to act on the urge and how happy we will be if we do, without believing them. We can tune into euphoric memory recall sensations in the body that come up with craving, and just enjoy their pleasure, just as one might simply enjoy a movie preview without needing to see the whole movie (i.e. without having to have the entire addictive episode).
Since all addictions involve both running towards a pleasure and running away from discomfort, we can make space for and fully experience and grow to tolerate uncomfortable impulsive "driver urges" in the body without letting them grab control and drive us to action. We can sit and watch the wave of impulse and desire wash through - slowing down, watching it come and go, arising and passing - without climbing on.
And if it's too late, and we are already caught up in an addictive episode, mindfulness can help here too. Instead of spacing out and getting indulgently lost in pleasure, we can pay close in-the-moment attention to our lived experience of an addictive episode - for example, how our body feels and what thoughts are going through our mind. If we are unable to stop or change the habit, we can at least do it with a more full awareness. I've heard this called, "Staying upright when we fall down".
One other helpful tool is self-friendliness, aka "lovingkindness", practice. Bringing some softness and warm-hearted and patient acceptance instead of self-condemnation and panic can bring all sorts of benefits - helping us to resist new addictive urges, bringing an episode to a stop once we are in it, and forgiving ourself once an episode is over. The latter can make future episodes less likely - studies have found that people who work on loving their bodies just the way they are succeed at diets more often.
In general, the more we work any sort of meditation and mindfulness into our days, the fewer addictive urges we will have, and the more ability we will have to be larger and stronger than them.

2023.06.08 23:34 findTheTruthAlready How to escape the cycle of debt?

I'm currently facing a difficult situation with a significant amount of debt. Coming from a background of poverty, I wanted to help my family achieve financial freedom. Initially, I took on a large loan to support them, but over the years, I found myself trapped in a cycle of borrowing more to repay existing debts. Somehow, I managed to survive, but there were moments when I was on the verge of breaking down. Fortunately, a friend came to my aid and helped me get back on track. However, I realized that I needed to take decisive action to break free from this pattern and support my family.
I found a job that paid well, more than my family had ever seen. With the newfound income, I started fulfilling their needs and desires. However, this led to additional credit card debt. Moreover, the place we currently live in is uninhabitable and unsafe, which worries me, especially as my parents approach retirement. I wanted to provide them with a secure and comfortable environment, so I decided to purchase another house. Unfortunately, due to certain circumstances, I am unable to sell our current properties.
Now, I find myself in a situation where my debts are equal to or even greater than my salary, and I don't see any other viable options to overcome this challenge. I feel like I might have made a mistake, and I'm unsure of what steps to take next. It seems like finding a higher-paying job is my only hope, but I'm uncertain if that will be possible. I'm feeling lost and in need of guidance. Can you provide any advice on what I should do in this situation?

2023.06.08 23:34 Fart_Banana Unbridled rage

Tldr: Long ass rant bitching about my life.
I'm just so full of hate now which sucks, because I used to be a super chill dude but lately me and my mom have have getting hit by some cosmic bullshit beam or something.
First my dad walks out with all the money while me and mom don't have a job.
Then when we're on the verge of starving my grandma cancels a card we borrowed (that pays for some of our food) which caused us to leave behind ALL of our groceries.
Then my cat contracts fleas so bad I can't even step onto my own goddamn floor without 6 of them little fuckers jumping on me.
My hair is breaking so bad I look like a crusty fucking toothbrush.
And FINALLY when I have the energy to actually y'know start turning my life around my bathtub gets clogged and it smells like sewage. As soon as I smelled that shit I instantly just gave up dude like I'm so doneeeee.
I'm so pissed that I wanna break all my shit and punch a hole through the wall, I'm fantasizing about strangling my dad the next time I see him and then shooting him. I've never been a hateful person but I'm just so sick of EVERYTHING. I'm so angry that I wanna DIE.
I actually had my .22 loaded against my throat ready to pull the trigger but the only reason I didn't is because i have sex toys I don't want my family to find after I'm dead lmfao.
It just would've been nice to have a dad that took care of his family before throwing all that responsibility on to me because honestly I don't know what the fuck I'm doing and I'm too broke to do anything anyways.
But also I'm just mad at myself for allowing myself to get to this point. It seems like my life's been one fuck up after another and it's getting hard to cope anymore. I wish I was smarter and more resilient to adversity but instead I get so ANGRY even at the smallest things that it makes me suicidal.
No I can't afford therapy, I can't even afford gas. Yes I'm looking for work so I can afford therapy and gas. Just wanted to vent tbh, thanks for coming to my TED talk.

2023.06.08 23:32 phezthegrand Father in law debacle

To start, me and my FIL have had our ups and downs through the years. From what I have heard he use to be a great father when my husband and sister in law where younger. But the man I know, IV drugs, no job - living off the survivors checks from his wife who passed away from IV drug use, giving away every cent of that to "girlfriends" on the internet that promised him the world only to never show up, and so much more. He did all of this and expected me and my husband to take care of his every need, cook him food, shelter, cigarettes, our internet where he could talk to the "girlfriends", rides anywhere he wanted to go, and to come and go as he pleased.
You can skip this next part to get to my dilemma or read for a little context this is a summary not everything he put us through
《A little of his story: He had a fully functioning house, water, electricity, gas, heating and ac. Started really getting into drugs, and the "girlfriends" well there went the money for the bills and food. Around this time we decided to put a trailer on some property he owned and in return keep up and maintain the 3 acres (because he wasn't and the city was on him). When signing the land rental agreement he unbeknownst to us put we had to pay him $400 to stay on the property. So we paid that to him but he also wasn't paying the property tax on the land, we paid that too. All the while every summer and winter when it got to hot/cold he stayed with us rent free ate our food and made himself at home. Coming and going as he pleased sometimes with our vehicles...gone for days. We decided we had enough of living by his terms since we were on his land and he felt like he could access our home anytime he felt like... so we got a house. While the trailer was in selling limbo he broke into it, rented it out falsified our names to have utilities cut on. ~ fast forward a bit he sells his house and gave the money to a "girlfriend" and started drawing early retirement. Still giving every penny to different "girlfriends" and dumpster diving for food. With the trailer finally off his land he made essentially a homeless camp and invited his druggy friend to slum it up with him. Still coming to our house during the summer and the winter to survive and mooch off of us. We'll his druggy friends kick him off "his" property (it got sold at auction). He started living with other druggy friends but they had no running water food, anything really but a house and electricity. He starts taking the bus to our house and randomly showing up for food. Somehow my husband convinced me to let him live here instead of like a homless man. I agree.》 ☆I'd like to add while all of this was happening we found out our son was level 3 autistic needing significant supports, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, ABA therapy, so we had our hands full☆
Back to the main point... he came to live with us, I expected withdrawals from the drugs, well after a few months I noticed he wasn't getting better, 3 months of begging him to go to the doctor even me putting him on medicaid where he could go... refused right until 2 weeks ago when he could barely breathe. I bring him to a quick care they take and x ray and tell us to immediately go to the hospital. Hospital 3 blood clots, and what they suspect to be level 3 or 4 lung cancer (won't know until they do an out patient biopsy). They do a few surgeries 1 to remove the 2 blood clots in his lungs 2 to put a filter in his heart. He is currently in rehab to build the strength to come home.
■ Problem ■ During the hospital stay my sister in law swoops in after having nothing to do with her dad for years, doctor told her her dad would have a year to live, doctor told my husband 4 to 9 months to live. Sister in law knows someone who has stage 4 lung cancer and has been alive for 3-4 years with it thinks the doctor doesn't know what he's talking about. I asked if we should put him in a home after rehab, i have a lot to juggle with my son. Sister in law shoots down that idea with a bit of an attitude, and says he WIL stay at home as long as possible. ○keep this in mind○ I explained to her I'm putting our son back in speech therapy and occupational therapy during the summer (school provides it during the year) and we have had a disney trip planned for over a year now, my sister in laws wife is a teacher and says she'll help. We find out he is getting out this Friday (tomorrow), we leave for Disney Sunday and don't get back till Saturday night. I explain he cant stay at my house unattended especially just coming out of rehab. He is now on oxygen and has to use a walker, I just know in my bones my father in law is going to fall. I say he can go to your house for a week and come back or you can come stay at our house for a week till we come back and then I'll take over care. NOPE my sister in law says, he can't come to her house ... I put my foot down ... he isn't staying here unattended. She responded with well I guess he's just going to have to go into a home.
FIRST OFF I NEVER WANTED TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR DYING FATHER, I am disabled and have my appointments to attend as well as my son's therapy appointments to attend but you just expected me to take care of him till he died. I got over it and accepted that I was going to be his caretaker, even though this shouldn't have been my responsibility.
It all boils down to it was okay when I was going to take full care of him, but when you need to take care of him for 1 week (7 days) he has got to go into a home.
I am livid, am I in the wrong?

2023.06.08 23:32 Valor_Kish Binged AHS in 10 days - my rankings with explanations

Hello! I'm the same person who made this post and ever since then I have spent hours binging AHS season 2 through 11. I thought I could give my two cents as a brand new fan and hopefully open an interesting discussion! :D The ranking of each season depends on several factors, such as probability of me rewatching it, how immersed I was in the story, how much I liked the characters, and stuff like that. I'll be starting from the bottom and make my way up to first place. Keep in mind I'm not trying to hate on the lowest ranked seasons, I'm just explaining how I perceived them and hopefully somebody can change my mind!
  1. Double Feature - it feels unfair to put this one at the absolute bottom because I generally liked Red Tide a lot, I enjoyed seeing Lily Rabe and Finn Wittrock playing the protagonists and their daughter was a pretty ok (slightly antagonistic?) character. I also enjoyed Evan Peters as Austin Summers, just a funky dude. Unfortunately, the complete mess that was Death Valley brings this down to last place. I may be biased because I don't like aliens/UFOs/space-themed things, but the second part just felt so out of place and cluttered. The whole alien pregnancy thing just felt gross to watch, to me. Death Valley was incredibly boring and I didn't understand much of the black&white parts of the episodes. If it wasn't for Death Valley, I'd probably rank this season on place 7.
  2. Hotel - it was very difficult for me to get through this season. I very much enjoyed James Patrick March and The Countess as characters, but besides them I didn't have a lot of interest in the rest. I didn't really enjoy John Lowe as the protagonist (I'm also not familiar with the actor) and at the end I didn't get what the message was. It felt a bit out of place that this season played out in modern times, I think I would've enjoyed it more if it were the fifties or something like that. I also cringed a bit hearing the Swedish girls talk (I am Swedish), but I guess that's just a personal thing... I'm surprised they survived until the end though (unless my memory betrays me), but honestly that was an interesting detail. I think people here have mixed opinions of Hotel, I usually see it falling somewhere in the bottom-middle of rankings... James March was entertaining to watch and I found him pretty funny, but I think he was the only character that made it worthwhile for me to continue watching.
  3. NYC - to my knowledge, this season is all about the AIDS epidemic and the history of homosexuals in USA... which was interesting and insightful to watch! The last two episodes were a bit of a bore for me, but I found the rest of the episodes pretty good. I read somewhere that Big Daddy was supposedly a symbol of AIDS/HIV(?) which I think was creative. Honestly though, I almost solely watched this season for Zachary Quinto, lol, and I think he was great! With Evan Peters, Jessica Lange, and Lily Rabe missing I didn't find this season as interesting as the older ones, but in general I think this season highlighted the struggles of LGBTQ people during that time period in the US pretty well. Though it's not a subject I'm passionate about, it made me more knowledgeable. I was happy to see Patti LuPone and Joe Mantello as I had previously seen both of them in the show "Hollywood"!
  4. Apocalypse - like many others have said, this season kind of feels like a Coven 2. I was very happy to see the witches returning and I think them fighting the Antichrist was entertaining, as well as seeing his backstory explained (plus bringing back Jessica as Constance). The first few episodes were a bit slow, but ultimately it was fun watching the witches battle the (male) witches for the place of the Supreme. Besides that, I didn't think this season was that remarkable, and I think it would've been justified as a part two of Coven instead of a stand-alone season. I think this season got my hopes up because of its name (I like apocalypse-themed movies, like 2012, World War Z, Greenland...), so that's why it takes eighth place.
  5. Roanoke - it was definitely different seeing the "show within a show" turn the directors decided to take, and I think it was well-executed! The story was relatively easy to follow, and I think Kathy Bates played an excellent role. Short as his screen time might be, I liked Evan Peters' performance as Edward Mott (it was interesting to see a character related to Dandy Mott also!). This season definitely felt a bit more raw and scary, and I generally enjoyed it a bunch. The reason it's not higher on the list is because I wasn't really used to the "show within a show" concept and I didn't find any characters particularly extraordinary, but it was a fun season and I liked it nonetheless.
  6. 1984 - just like Roanoke, the storyline was easy to follow and I liked seeing Emma Roberts this time around as well. While I think it was good, I couldn't go in-depth about it because it felt a bit... light compared to other seasons? Maybe because it only had 9 episodes, but it didn't give me enough time to really become interested in the characters and wanting to know their backstory. It was kind of a feel-good season for me because I just love the 80s and its whole aesthetic (+music and fashion), and so I didn't focus a whole lot on the plot. I did enjoy the ending though and in my opinion it is one of the best season endings in AHS (always happy to see Finn Wittrock returning). I can imagine rewatching it, this time paying a bit more attention to the details rather than the aesthetics.
  7. Coven - so, prior to even watching AHS, I had heard and seen a lot of Coven. Supposedly many people say it's one of the most iconic seasons. In general, I like witches and spells, and I think the casting this season was perfect. The reason this one falls a bit low though, is because of the treatment of Kyle by Zoe and Madison. The fact they built the perfect body for him, then resurrecting him, then bringing him to his abusive mother was so unbeliavably cruel. It's not like Kyle returned to his old self once he came back to life, he was aggressive and confused and had to be taught basic things like a lab rat and he was treated like an object, more or less. It was saddening to see and I honestly don't appreciate the direction they decided to go with his character. I think if Kyle had ended up not getting into the bus and getting killed (instead discovering the witches on his own and being part of their company) it would've been way more interesting! So yeah, I miss pre-death Kyle. It was also a bit confusing for me to understand the plot and some of its witchy concepts, but for that reason I might also rewatch this one. However, I cannot explain how much I loved Fiona and the Axeman - I am obsessed with them and I don't know what the general consensus of this "ship" is, but Danny Huston and Jessica Lange's chemistry together is amazing, which is why I was happy to see him starring in Freak Show as well! I also found Delphine and Queenie's interactions hilarious, and was happy to see they ended up being friends despite their different... views. Generally, it's fun seeing a character from like the 1700s travel to modern time and having to get used to what's happening now.
  8. Cult - I've seen many people here saying they don't like Cult because it's too political, which is understandable, but as somebody who enjoys politics (and is non-American!) this season was incredibly insightful for me. I got an image of how the US in 2016 might've looked, both for politicians and citizens. Kai Anderson was a bit of an infuriating character since he reminded me of chronically online redpilled incels, but I think he was a good antagonist and Evan played him perfectly. I was happy to see Winter not taking the same direction as her brother politically, instead standing her ground and holding her own beliefs whilst also having a kind of wholesome bond with him. I think Ally could get a bit annoying at times with all of her phobias, but ultimately I don't really dislike her. I enjoyed this season lots actually, even though I don't tend to prefer seasons being played out in modern time.
  9. Murder House - like many here have said, this is the season that made most people watch AHS, and so I think it deserves appreciation for that alone. While I think Ben and Vivien seemed a bit underdeveloped, I enjoyed Evan's first role as Tate, as well as Taissa Farmiga as Violet. I'm not the type to "ship" Tate and Violet, but I did find their interactions interesting because of their different personalities. Initially I didn't pay a lot of attention to Jessica Lange as Constance, but in hindsight I can say she played a vital role. I found the feud between Constance and Moira funny at times, and I also enjoyed Jamie Brewer's performance when she played Adelaide! I did find Hayden pretty irritating though. Besides that, this is an entertaining season and I have no bigger issues with it... was also happy to see Zach here, lol.
  10. Freak Show - I like the concept of horror circuses and scary clowns, so this was an easy season for me to digest. I know quite a few people don't like Jessica Lange's singing performances this season, but I honestly think she killed the cover of "Gods and Monsters". Seeing Pepper's backstory was sad, but it was also interesting seeing why she had ended up at Briarcliff. It was pretty fun seeing Michael Chiklis (Dell Toledo) since I had previously seen him playing in the show Gotham, and as always nice to see Danny Huston. I know a lot of people here also don't like Dandy Mott, but honestly, I think Finn Wittrock KILLED this role. He wasn't your typical villain, he was a rich, spoiled, man-child who kept throwing tantrums and I found that so funny. I also enjoyed Frances Conroy's performance as Dandy's mother Gloria. I was surprised to see Neil Patrick Harris in this season, but he played his role pretty good and I think he made the later episodes a bit more interesting. I think the highlight of this season is definitely Dandy Mott, he was hilarious and appeared super annoying but also had a very dark personality... and his mother trying to defend him, lmao. Also was fun seeing Twisty return in Cult! Great season all around, honestly.
1.Asylum - you know it... this is a masterpiece, in my opinion. This season, I was interested in pretty much everybody's backstory (Sister Jude, Sister Mary Eunice, Dr Arden, the Monsignor, Grace, Kit, Thredson...). This season actually disturbed me a lot (Lana essentially being taken captive at this insane asylum for being a lesbian, Jessica Lange's spooky performance as a devout nun...), and don't even get me started on Shelley's mutilation. I like shows/movies centered around insane asylums generally, so it wasn't difficult for me to get hooked. I just think the casting was on point, the storyline was cohesive but it also made me think and speculate... I was relieved to see Lana killing her son in the end, honestly, and I think the last episodes wrapped this season up well. If I were to say something a little less good about this season though, it's that the whole alien-concept felt a little out of place (then again I'm biased, so I'm not really mad about that), and also the fact that Oliver Thredson's mommy issues felt a bit... fetishistic at times? which made me cringe and skip some scenes, but I mean, I guess disturbing was the goal? And y'all already know I like Zach... who killed this role yet again. Great performances from everybody. Heartwarming seeing Kit and Jude's relationship when Jude got out of the asylum. The perfect, number one season for me.
Okay, phew. That was a bit long which I apologise for... and please excuse my repeated usage of the words "interesting" "fun" "easy", I'm a bit tired right now, ha. I hope people will change my mind about Hotel because I really do want to enjoy that particular season more. Again, I don't mean to hate or bash any seasons, I'm just giving my opinion as a brand new watcher and fan. I'm sure some older fans on here can help me understand the appeal of the lower-ranked seasons! Not sure if I should proceed to watch American Horror Stories... if it's any good, I just might.
Thanks for reading this messy ramble and reviews, I wish y'all a great day!

2023.06.08 23:32 Big_Chicken4674 NYC CPSE SEIT Question for SEIT Provider

Hi everyone! I resigned from the DOE at the end of summer 2022 as an early childhood special education teacher. I am unable to work as a SEIT with CPSE for one year. I was wondering if I will need to work with an agency to contract with NYC DOE as a SEIT or am I able to work as an independent contractor? Additionally, it would be super appreciated if anyone had any information on how much the board of ed pays SEIT's hourly. Thank you so much in advance!!

Hello people,
As a college student, I initially thought I couldn’t afford it. Rent in New York is prohibitively expensive, the price of food is triple the amount I would have paid back home, and my NYU tuition bill put a nice $50,000 dent in my wallet each year. However, I was meticulous with my saving, and as a graduating senior, I have a few tips to share about saving money as a student in New York.
Look for affordable housing
Living in Manhattan or downtown Brooklyn may seem glamorous, but it can burn a hole in your pocket. If your college is in Manhattan, consider living in Queens, Brooklyn, or Jersey City to save money. If you’re attending a college in Brooklyn, look for places like Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, or Coney Island. Sure, you’ll have to travel an extra 30 minutes every day, but it’s worth it. And try to find apartments without broker fees. It can save you almost $500–$1000. And also, use Zillow.
Another tip is to look for sublets or hunt for people looking for roommates in Facebook and WhatsApp groups. This way, you can talk to the people you’ll be living with and save on guarantor fees. Guarantor companies charge around 1 month’s rent in order to insure you.
List of Affordable and safest neighborhoods in NYC (that i know):
  1. Bay Ridge(Brooklyn)
  2. Dyker heights(Brooklyn)
  3. Journal Square(Jersey City)
  4. Forest Hills(Queens)
  5. Jackson Heights(Queens)

Waive your college health insurance
Saving over $4,000 per year sounds too good to be true, right? But trust me, it’s possible. You just need to know the right information. My wonderful friend, Sai, introduced me to a free health plan from a company called Kimber Health during class. Since I was hardly paying attention anyway, I filled out my application on the spot. At first, I was skeptical, but two weeks later, I received my insurance card backed by UnitedHealthcare. And just like that, I waived my NYU insurance and my roommates and I saved almost $15,000, which we used for our trip to Puerto Rico. Yeah, it was alright!

Cook at home
NYC is notorious for its expensive food prices. I mean, who wants to pay $20 for a sandwich? The best way to save money on food every day is to cook at home. I know it’s tough as a student, but you can take turns cooking with your roommates or preparing food in advance for a couple of days. You can also make instant lunch, like a chicken salad. And say no to Uber Eats. Trust me, your wallet will thank you.
Take advantage of discounted Metro cards and Museum visits

Saving money in NYC can feel like a never-ending battle. But don’t worry, there are ways to make it easier. One of them is using Fair Fares NYC, a program that offers discounted metro cards to eligible New Yorkers. Thanks to my friend Sai, who introduced us to this program, my roommates and I save upwards of $60 per month. It may not be as much as health insurance savings, but it’s a consistent saving. And the best part? Immigration status is not affected. I did my research and spoke to an immigration lawyer, and it’s clearly mentioned on the NY state gov website that these details will not be shared with federal immigration authorities at any point in time.
Note: This applies to Health Insurance saving too(Tip 2).
Not a money-saving tip, but a money-earning tip
Saving money is important, but so is earning it. Try to find on-campus employment as soon as you get admission. Each university has different ways of finding employment opportunities, so start by emailing someone and I’m sure they’ll help you find the right person. At the end of the day, it’s not just about saving more money, but also earning it.
With these five proven ways to save money as an international student in NYC, you can focus on your studies and experiences instead of worrying about your finances. Or, with the money saved, you can take a nice tropical vacation after your finals.
