Are you guys getting offers in tech this year? I work as full-stack and haven't even gotten past the first stage on any applications yet. Last year, I had 3 recruiters/day reach out, and 5 six-fig offers total, but this year, I have about 1 recruiter reaching out every other day with 0 offers and the ones that reach out are either for hybrid or on-site jobs. Every now and then, I do get a remote opportunity but salary is either under 6 figs or they don't show up to the phone screens. Had 5 no shows already, one who even no showed twice after reminding him, which makes me wonder why they even bothered to reach out. Just a very bizarre dynamic compared to last year especially that stocks and finances are picking up pretty well. In 2021, recruiters told me there were more jobs than people but declined towards end of 2022. All I can say is, hold on to your Js this year, it doesn't seem too easy to pipe yourself in the system right now.

This took place late 90's, when cell phones still charged calls by the minute so the use of pagers was still pretty common.
My GF at the time had a pager, and she would keep it clipped to her sun visor in her car when driving, so if it went off she could glance at it to see who was sending the page without really taking eyes off road, and see if it's worth pulling over. Being early summer and we were about 20, 21, life was all about social time those days.
At this time, well before the internet took hold, the popular hangout was the Shopping Mall. 200 stores, something for everyone, and it's where the masses of teenagers would spend their free time. Largest mall in the region so always a chance to meet new people or find people you hadn't seen in a while.
So as she pulled in on a Friday night to meet up with her friends, she saw an old friend from her neighborhood, someone she hadn't seen since middle school years. (he went down the pothead route, she didn't, they drifted but no hard feelings) So she stopped next to him, chatted for a few minutes, exchanged pleasantries, then moved on to find a parking space.
It was there, as she went to get out of the car, that she noticed the pager was missing. She instantly remembered he had leaned in to rest his arms on the window frame to chat, and remembered when he asked her about something that prompted her to reach for her glovebox, and he must've swiped it then. Feeling stupid, and knowing who took it wasn't hard to figure out, but good luck finding him again amongst the crowds.
She went home, and tried to deal with it herself. She knew where he lived, as during the conversation he had mentioned he was "staying with so-and-so" and she knew where that guy lived. She borrowed her older brother's cell phone, called me and told me where she was going, gave me the address. I headed there.
So she went to the townhouse complex, parked right outside their unit, walked up and rang the doorbell. She talked to the mutual friend's mother. Explained what happened. Lady seemed annoyed at the kid, said he was a deadbeat, and agreed to help. She paged her son, he called back, and she said they were on their way home right now.
So she sat outside and waited. 15 minutes, 30 minutes... I show up and park far away, but within a line of site. I wanted to back her up in case things for fucky but if she wanted to handle this the nice way, I'll let her do that first. (I think she thought she would confront him, he's say something like "it was worth a try" and hand it back?) An hour. By now it was getting late, was after 12 midnight. We waited until 12:30 when she calls me and says she needs to get some sleep, "let's just write it off."
But I had a feeling. So I told her to leave, to pull out of the complex, circle around, then pull back into the complex and park over where I was parked, then turn off her car.
She does, then comes join me in my car and we have a bit of a stakeout.
Sure enough, my suspicions were confirmed when not 5 minutes later the guys arrive. Her mother told them she was waiting, then told them once she left and it was clear to come home.
I asked her if that was the asshole's car, or the friends. We saw them get out and realized it was the asshole's car.
My plan quickly fell into shape. I told her to go home, get some sleep, I'll take care of this.
See, the car stood out. It was a beater car. It was blue with a silver back fender and back passenger door, replaced from an accident but never painted to match. It was heavily tinted, which is illegal but not really enforced unless police wanted a reason to pull you over. It had a loud system. Every square foot had a dent or a ding. There was a shitty add-on spoiler that was 3 sizes too large, and there were Jamaica flag bumper stickers on it even though he was white as snow. And he had these obnoxiously bright neon license plate frames.
You know the type, instead of buying a decent car wastes tons of money blinging out a piece of shit that constantly breaks down.
So I sit and I wait. 1 am, 2am rolls around. Most house lights in the area have gone out by now, including theirs. Not quite time.
3 am rolls around, 3:30... almost.
3:45, there was not a lick of movement anywhere. Now's the time!
I get out of my car, hunch down (just in case) and slowly work my way to his car. Pull out my screwdriver and quietly remove both the back and the front license plates, replace the frames, head back to my car, and drive home.
You see, the way the parking lot was, walking out of his front door you are looking at the driver side of his car, not the front or the back. And who, honestly, looks to see if there are license plates on your car when you go to get in it?
So it's now late Saturday afternoon, and a posse shows up at my GF's house, including a very large woman threatening to beat the crap out of her. She played it cool, said she had NO idea what they were talking about. They screamed that she stole his license plates because he had stolen her pager, and he even took out the pager and smashed it on the sidewalk as some sort of "revenge"
She laughed and said "I honestly have NO idea what you are talking about.. I don't really care about the pager, we already had the account moved to a new pager, that was was old and ugly anyway", yeah I came by to ask for it back, but it got late so I just got a different one. I don't care enough to make an issue out of it"
They continued to scream at her. Apparently he went out, the cops pulled him over for not having plates on his car, and he had to go to the police station and file a police/theft report in order to get out of a ticket.
She just repeated "I had nothing to do with that, so unless you have proof, you're about to be seeing the police again"
They knew they had nothing, grumbled and weren't sure how to react, so they gave a few more empty threats threats and left.
I let it sit. I gave it about 6-7 weeks, nothing more came of it, and everyone but me apparently moved on with our lives.
I guess they thought that was the end of it.
But I saw that visit and those threats as an escalation, so I reacted in kind.
Late summer I Again went back to his place. Again I found the car (it was really easy to spot), and Again I waited until about 3:45am, and Again I stole his (new) license plates.
Only this time I put his original plates back on.
And because the non-repaired side of the back of his car left a gaping hole in the wheel well, I was able to get my arm up in there and pop out the bulb socket for his left blinker, then I went on my way.
So even if he DID get into the habit of making sure there were plates on the car.. there were. And unless he was paying attention, the numbers would seem natural because he had them for years. But I'm not sure he even looked.
If the internet was a thing back then, hell if SCANNERS were a popular thing back then, I would still have the hard evidence which to this day I'd probably use as my phone's lock screen picture.
A little blurb in the local paper a few days later. A blurb that was proudly cut out and shared amongst friends, but sadly lost to the ages in 25+ years and countless apartment and house moves since then.

About the arrest of a particular young man, who was pulled over for a malfunctioning blinker, on a car that was operating on stolen plates. He was charged with fraudulently filing a false police report, (claiming plates clearly in his possession were stolen) defrauding the Motor Vehicle Commission (a crime in this state) for fraudulently obtaining new plates, possession of controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia, along with a host of traffic violations for having tinted window, failure to maintain vehicle, and a few other tickets. He was remanded pending bail and issued a court date.
Never found out if he posted bail, I'm sure his friend's mother didn't, and he had already been on the outs with his own family.
It was a good 5 months later when we were at the mall again, and she sees the large woman and a couple of the other people that came to her house that day walking towards us. We all noticed each other at the same time, I felt my GF tense up a little bit, but without a word those three just paused a second, turned, and went in a different direction.
Never saw or heard from any of them ever again. I guess my message was received loud and clear.

I am hoping to get some advice from other contractors in the tech field (or working parents or just generally anyone that needs to get sh*t done at night).
I loveeee my kiddo more than life itself, but he has very low sleep needs and I won’t give you the schedule, but from 6:30am - 8pm, I’m on the clock as mom and I have very little time to get things done!
I need to stay up and get some work done as I am a contractor in the tech field. I just get lazy and tired and end up falling asleep. My job is literally on the line.
I do take a low dose adhd medication during the day but I try to avoid it at night to get to sleep. Maybe I do need to pop another dose just to get back into work mode and knock stuff out a few nights a week. It’s not like I need to stay up ALL night, I’m talking like maybe 10pm - midnight a few nights a week.
Any other folks have some advice? What’s your standard schedule or motivation for taking your meds or a kick in the pants to stay up at night and knock things out?

My screening is in a couple months, maybe less idk. And I’m worried I won’t meet a single neurodivergent person there. If it’s just old white ladies who treat me like a six year old and expect very specific things from me, it’s going to be really difficult. I wish we were the first voice when it came to advocating for our rights and accommodations. The excuse is always ‘lots of autistic people are non-verbal/ don’t speak!’ Or that their stutter makes it hard for people to understand them. It’s ignorant, in my opinion. Because talking isn’t the only way for people to communicate! Look at animals, they all have unique ways to communicate with eachother. Sign language, art, music, all ways of communicating without speaking.
And to the ones of us that are verbal, please omg just let us speak and give us a chance! It takes me longer to say what I’m thinking out loud, but I still want to talk!

Hi, i am in the end. In march 2022 I got infected with Covid. I was 14 days positive. Covid turned into post and finally long Covid, including heart attack, air shortness and major depression. Further, I became dots under my skin of which we thought it was cancer but it was not. At my job they lost patience or told I would be playing sick. After couple of weeks I started to feel better, though problems did not move away in my job. So I started looking for a new one. In the meantime the old company got hacked which led to major problems for me since we had to use our private gadgets. After a few more days i got a job offer, accepted the offer, moved into a bigger place and started the new job - though exhausted from the hack. The first 2 months were intense but great. Then,Within 2 months, I got infected again with Covid. This time it was mild. Though afterwards I got weird swellings. The doctors supposed cancer. Turned out it was not cancer 5 weeks later. Then I became weird tooth pain. Doctors could not find anything. After two more weeks I went to emergency due to the tooth pain. They found out they my kidneys were highly infected close to stop functioning. They screened my body for 2 weeks to finde the cause.It turned out that I had a rare autoimmune disease called sarcoidosis. This caused also the swellings of which cancer was thought. I was furthered to death. After 3 more weeks at home I returned to the job just to get kicked out after 3 more weeks. Now I am unemployed since April and totally depressed since march. Everyday is getting worse. I accuse myself for getting sick and therefore losing the job. Getting psychological help and taking mirzapin for sleep. But I don’t feel better.

Had a situation come up today that i wanted to share so you could avoid before it happens. Got a call from my wife that the van stopped at a light and the whole car just shut down, black screens, nothing worked, not even flashers. she hit the button and it came back on and gave her warnings about the start/stop system.
talked to the dealer and they said it was likely the start/stop battery was bad. After talking to the battery guy (the interstate dealer) he said that you should change out that aux battery after 5 years no matter what, they are kind of a time-bomb. and while you're at it, change the main one because you're halfway there.
So they were pricey because of the types of battery they were, but got new batteries in and everything was fine. But if you aren't the one driving it daily, save your wife some hassle and be proactive about the battery.

I am hoping to get some advice from other contractors in the tech field (or working parents or just generally anyone that needs to get sh*t done at night).
I loveeee my kiddo more than life itself, but he has very low sleep needs and I won’t give you the schedule, but from 6:30am - 8pm, I’m on the clock as mom and I have very little time to get things done!
I need to stay up and get some work done as I am a contractor in the tech field. I just get lazy and tired and end up falling asleep. My job is literally on the line.
I do take a low dose adhd medication during the day but I try to avoid it at night to get to sleep. Maybe I do need to pop another dose just to get back into work mode and knock stuff out a few nights a week. It’s not like I need to stay up ALL night, I’m talking like maybe 10pm - midnight a few nights a week.
Any other folks have some advice? What’s your standard schedule or motivation for taking your meds or a kick in the pants to stay up at night and knock things out?

Has anyone had clogged ears before? This is my second pregnancy and first time ever having clogged ears. It feels like I need to pop them like when on a flight. It’s so unsettling. It’s been 3 days. I feel like I can barely hear. The drs said since I’m pregnant I can’t take antibiotics or decongestants and just have to take Tylenol for the pain and wait it out for a few days. Has this happened to anyone before?! What did you do to relieve the pressure quick? I can’t sleep from the ringing and pressure and feel like I’m getting anxiety because of it.

They do survive the actual transfer and do spread out and explore, but eventually they will huddle near the glass and just stop to die

- There are some dry spots on wood, plants and a singular glass feature
- there are buried isopods and mealworms in the substrate (somewhere, they do pop up occasionally)
- topsoil is common potter soil mixed with woodchips and grass cuttings

Hey so Just a heads up that this is a short nightmare I had today so it is freaky :(
I just remember I was in a building I don’t remember all the details but I just remember receiving a phone call I picked up the phone and on the other line it was silent at first but then I heard a woman’s voice, “mom” she said as you hear like a tornado siren? Or a type of siren And her voice echoed like when your in an empty room and it also sounded like when you put a telephone effect on your voice or something and I said how I’m not her mom and I don’t know her but she cut me off and said how “I just wanted to hear your voice one last time” and as she said that their was like explosions noises in the background and then silence on the other line, I remember hanging up the phone and I stared blankly but then realized and started crying in my head in my dream what popped up was 9/11
My final thoughts: This is really scary since I didn’t watch anything disturbing or anything traumatic before I went to bed so this dream just really freaked me out but yeah I just wanted to share it because it just scared me badly and I can still hear all the noises and the girls voice clearly it was like if it was real :( so creepy and sad

 | I just ordered RX inserts for both my Rokid Max units and my incoming Viture glasses. I’ve ordered from Lensology before for my NReal Air’s and they were game changers for using those glasses. submitted by Walleyevision to rokid_official [link] [comments] To be honest, with the Rokid’s, I wasn’t quite sure I needed the RX inserts. The adjustable Diopter works great for my eyes and so I wasn’t quite sure if I would need inserts or not. And, for ordinary media viewing and most (non-text-heavy) gaming purposes, I don’t need the inserts. But I have been using the Rokid’s as a secondary private monitor and I run Teams and Slack in them while I use my main laptop screen for other tasks. It works great, but my eyesight would strain a bit moving between the text channels and any of the stuff I was working on in my main laptop screen. So…I reached out to Adam at Lensology (FANTASTIC GUY!) and he quickly arranged to re-use my NReal prescription (hadn’t changed) and cut me some lenses for both glasses. I did this last Friday, we had a Memorial Day holiday here in the US this week, and the glasses delivered to my doorstep this morning. Speedy service from the UK to midwest USA in less than 4 business days! These inserts snapped right in MUCH easier than they do on the NReals, another testament to Rokid learning how to innovate with each successive release. And they sit perfectly just above the nose bridge pieces. I had to re-adjust the diopters since I no longer needed them to compensate for my RX given that I had the inserts now. And voila! Crystal clear text, way beyond what I could even achieve (which was acceptable) with just the Diopter settings. I’m very, very happy with the quality of Lensology’s work yet again. The Viture’s are really exciting to me as they magnetically ‘snap’ into the Viture frames apparently, but I don’t have those yet. I have decided to fire up my ps3 to play 09 (my most recent version of NCAA) for the first time since November. My internal display won't turn on, only external monitors working. I can see very faintly that the display has stuff going on but no backlight almost impossible to see at all.

Out of warranty for 1 month 😑 I wasn't able to extend my warranty .
Let me know if anyone has some ideas, currently carrying hdmi with me for work.

Anyone else so terribly annoyed with nurses and dr shaming you for what you do with your child at checkups? My LO had her 12month vaccines yesterday and I swear I almost knocked the nurse out. So first she goes to mention her weight and ask me all these questions, basically aiming that I don’t feed my child enough. (To point out, there’s not many times in the day where she’s NOT eating, she has a very healthy appetite) saying that she’s a VERY small baby (which she is, she weighs just over 18lbs) but she eats! She drinks! Very well!! Then goes on to tell me that I MUST brush her teeth minimum twice a day… has anyone tried to wrangle a baby to brush their (FIVE) teeth?? (Yes I do brush them once a day, and I understand mouth hygiene but I mean cmon) then goes on to ask if she’s been to the dentist or if I’ve made n appointment yet- I said, I thought that was more of a 2yrs old -3yrs old time- she stares into my soul and says “we’ll she has teeth doesn’t she” like UM ain’t no way my child will sit still for a dentist to poke around in her mouth? If anything it’ll scare her and she’ll have issues going when she’s older?! And here’s the one that really set me off “Do you do screen time and how much?” I answered yes a bit, in the background while we play (it’s miss Rachel btw) and she again stares into my soul and says, no screen time is necessary until 2. Yes, I understand that, but I can’t have a quiet house, I get lost in my thoughts (yes even chasing my LO) and again it’s not like she’s planted infront of the tv unable to move for hours… she literally never even pays attention, she way to hyper. Anyways that’s my rant, im just sick of the judgemental looks and “advice” from nurses and drs. She’s very healthy, plays, chats, mobility is good and yet they still find something to tell you you’re doing wrong. Like fuck off. I don’t think that what was mentioned will completely altar my child for the worst. Anyways, thanks for reading. Rant over 👍🏻

2023.06.02 19:27 Equivalent-Ad-2957 How a mix of alcohol, benzos and cannabis led to a terrible night
I have been experimenting with different substances since the age of 14, this story happened a few years ago it happened when I was 16 years old. For about two and a half years now I have been using heavy doses of cannabis, barbiturates, benzodiazepines and alcohol. One evening, as often happens, I was at my grandmother's house, that afternoon I had already decided that since I was going to sleep there, I would have reached a level of high I had never reached before. Just before dinner I took 3mg of Tavor, which is the European trade name of Lorazepam. At dinner, I downed a bottle and a half of white wine as fast as I could. After dinner in the dining room I was already taken by the euphoria and delirium of the combination of alcohol and benzodiazepines, so I put a channel of cartons and decided to roll two splifs, each with about 0.5 grams of excellent hashish to smoke them both in sequence. About halfway through the first spliff, I realized the Tavor was kicking in, I felt mildly dissociated, euphoric, lightheaded and my vision was blurry. Out of joy I started watching Teen Titans Go and at the first interval I ran to the balcony to smoke the other spliff. Once I finished and went back to the sofa, I realized that the images on the screen tended to melt, so I turned off the television and lay down. At that point things took a decidedly dark turn...I couldn't get any constructive thoughts, when I thought of something, the voice in my head was both female and male and the shadows cast by a lamppost on the ceiling of the room took on a strange forms, at which point I started to get really scared. After about two hours I was completely dissociated from myself, what I was seeing on my phone didn't make any sense and I kept hearing high pitched sounds which then stopped immediately. I somehow found the strength to go to the balcony and put my fingers down my throat to throw up, and I managed it, only to fall and hit my chin. After a few minutes my grandmother entered the room and asked me what I was doing, and I replied "I'm just getting some air, grandma!", slurring every word, she must have thought I was simply drunk and closed the door, leaving me Alone. By then it was 5am and I was still completely out of it, visual hallucinations and voices were everywhere, I couldn't figure out where in the room I was. From this moment I have no more memories of the night. I woke up to the sound of a neighbor banging on her door as she found her balcony full of vomit. That night I completely lost my grandmother's trust, who sensed that I had took something. Benzodiazepines are a fun drug that can too help in some occasions, but if you want to mix It with alcol be extremely careful. Please.

Yesterday I received a text while driving. After listening to it, Assistant asked if I would l like to respond. I said, "no", and that popped up on the Android Auto screen at first, then it changed it to noe.
That, of course, caused it to ask again. This happened a couple more times until I finally had to answer in a full sentence.
A few more texts and similar results occurred yesterday and today. Also today, my Nest Hub was running down my task list and asked if I wanted to hear more. Once again we went through the same dance.
This happen to anyone else?
